No matter if you want your old favorite or want to try something new, the menu offers a variety of food from Asia. Never had a bad time there and the place is always clean and inviting. Inspired by the good words from Yelpers, we decided to take a break from oysters and lobsters while visiting Maine and enjoy some Chinese food. We're glad we did. We had a very tasty meal with nice service in a restaurant that is just a bit off the beaten path but well worth any trouble that night require. Our menu consisted of wonton soup, garlic chicken, a Pupu platter and chicken wings and some beer (regrettably and ironically they were out of the Chinese beer we prefer). All of the dishes were quite satisfying and quite reasonably priced. Our entire meal came to less than a two-pound lobster would cost just down the road. The hot and sour soup is the best in York. Not outstanding, but still good. The food is fresh and the cooked vegetables are still crunchy, just the way I like them. The spring rolls are done right, but the egg rolls need some improvement as the wrapper is too thick. Ultimately, most everything is very tasty and the service is awesome. read more

We drove around looking for food but with so many places closed at 7pm and we didn't find much. We were glad Bamboo Garden was open. Let's start with - it's very clean inside. Welcoming. Nicely lit. Booth was comfy. Started with drinks - coke and a water. The water tasted disgusting so I opted for hot tea. As a vegan it's sometimes hard to eat out. I opted for the fried tofu and broccoli. No mention of sauce on the menu, and definitely no mention of there being oyster sauce on the tofu. After seeing it covered in a brown sauce I asked the waiter before trying it to find out if it was vegan friendly (or even vegetarian friendly!). He said no, that it had oyster sauce. I typically get fried tofu near by and it comes with a sweet chili sauce, on the side which I especially appreciate. They brought me another dish after I requested no sauce. Nope. It was slathered in this awful brown sauce that tastes disgusting. The tofu texture was way off. I had one broccoli and couldn't eat anymore. Now for the meat portion. The beef teriyaki are thinner but taste was good. Egg rolls also were very good. Chicken fingers were nicely battered and perfectly cooked. Rice was good too. And chicken sesame was incredible. Portions were smaller aside from the sesame chicken and of course egg rolls you always get 2. Oddly enough they give you only one tiny bowl of duck sauce and when you request more it's maybe a 1oz container. Just strange as local places hand you several with every order. It was $83 for dinner. Not worth it, imo. May go back for take out for the meat eater but that's about it. read more

Oh my god, this is easily my favorite Chinese restaurant in Maine. It is very clean and cozy inside, and the staff has always been nice. The food is incredible and I'm in love with the spring rolls. This is a perfect place if you're on vacation and don't know what to get. I always get it a couple of times whenever I'm in York. read more

I'm glad I found bamboo garden on Yelp! The food was delicious, well prepared and exactly what we wanted on a low key Wednesday. Ordering was breeze - I registered my email and was able to check out within minutes! My order was hot and ready for pick up within 10-15 mins. The one item we did order that I personally will skip next time (and I forgot to snag a picture of) was the egg drop soup. I was not a fan of corn kernels in it. Took away from the delicious egg taste - I ended up picking the corn out of each bite and finally gave up and tossed the rest of my soup. read more

I used to work in Manhattan in the Criminal Court Building at 100 Centre Street. When you stepped out the back door, you stepped into Chinatown, and I took full advantage of the situation by eating in as many Chinese restaurants as I could, for lunch and dinner. The food from Bamboo Garden is as good as or better than anything I ever experienced from the epicenter of NYC Chinese cuisine. No small feat, indeed! read more

Husband was craving Chinese tonight and I reluctantly agreed, not having found quality Chinese food since our favorite place in Boston (Chef Chang's) closed a good 15 years ago. I finally found my place! Broccoli with Garlic Sauce is my thing and they did it right - nice saucy batch with a subtle kick! Killer Spring Rolls. Perfectly cooked nice sticky rice and lots of it. My husband enjoyed all of his more carnivorous options - Peking Ravioli, General Tso's Shrimp, Kung Pao Chicken, and Twice-Cooked Pork. We went here for the first time after reading all the great reviews and were not disappointed! First, the process of ordering take-out is simple and quick. You don't pay online if you are concerned. The menu had a good selection, not too few and not too much. I ordered and received confirmation email quickly. They are very safely setup for pickup when you arrive. Dinner was ready and well packaged. When we got home, I couldn't wait to open the bag, it smelled wonderful. The quality was very high, everything was fresh. I especially noticed that the beef, chicken, scallops and shrimp were not overdone at all! Cooked to perfection. And the amount of salt was very restrained, greatly appreciated! Too hot to cook last night so we stopped into Bamboo Garden to pick up takeout. The best Chinese food we have had in ages! The chicken wings were cooked perfectly and as requested well done. We also had a variety of other appetizers that were great along with beef with snow peas, rice and shrimp in coconut sauce. We were greeted immediately upon our arrival, service was so efficient and the restaurant itself was immaculately clean. Tried the Kung Pow Shrimp, Shrimp with Broccoli, Lo Mein noodles, fried shrimp appetizer, and the pan fried dumplings. Everything was great. Some of the best Chinese food I've had. Because this adorable restaurant is tucked away off of the main thoroughfare, we've driven past it hundreds of times not realizing it existed. Today, after picking up a prescription at the local Rite Aid drive through, we noticed, to our surprise, the sign for Bamboo Garden behind the drug store and decided to check it out that night. We weren't disappointed! We ordered wonton soup, shrimp with lobster sauce, chicken with mixed vegetables, boneless spareribs and pork fried rice. All of the dishes were as good as any that I ever had in any Chinese restaurant before. They even had the really good, crispy Chinese noodles which they served, before the meal, with duck sauce. The waiter couldn't have been more accommodating and the place was several cuts above other local restaurants as far as its decor was concerned. We will definitely be back! read more

I just began a new job in this same plaza and figured I would check out Bamboo Garden as I noticed they have dine in (with a full bar!! Important when you're in the helping profession) and carry out available. I also get the opportunity to observe the backside of the building, the trash removal etc. THIS PLACE ROCKS--very clean, prompt service, yummy American Chinese food and ample parking. I sat down at the bar with 3 TVs and was greeted by a lovely older gentleman who seemed to have a great relationship with the three "regulars" at the bar. Side note-I love seeing regulars at a place like this even on a Wednesday at 3pm! Before I even cracked open the menu, ice water and fried wontons with duck sauce were promptly placed in front of me. Very yummy, NOT stale. I ordered a zombie (7.99) and it was exactly what I expected it to be, not to strong and could definitely taste the fruit juice. I would have had another if I didn't have to drive back home to Scarborough after. I had the lunch portion beef lo mein (substitute white rice) and the hot and sour soup. Immediate stand out was the hot and sour soup, especially because everything in the soup was identifiable as a vegetable and still had some crunch to it, didn't just mush up in your mouth. Beef had a nice taste to it, lo mein noodles were flavorful and not too greasy, and the veggies were good as well!! I left supremely satisfied and you can tell this is a family/close friend owned joint, AND spent under $20 including an alcoholic drink. That's literally unheard of in the greater Portland area. I again want to emphasize how clean, prompt, and friendly this place was. The food was delicious, well above the price point, and personally I can't beat the location. A hidden gem and As good as it gets. Was hard to find as sits behind Walgreens off of Route 1 and 91. The road 'market place drive' runs between the 2 roads. Not in Walgreens parking lot so look for Market Place Drive off of either 91 or Route 1 . Microtel Suites sits in the back. Sparkling clean, food was fantastic. Had hot and sour soup, General Tso's chicken and a combo lunch that had 2 huge chicken fingers, 2 crab Rangoon, 2 beef teriyaki, pork fried rice. Excellent. No oil taste, fresh and service was great. Having been disappointed so many times with Chinese food in the area Bamboo Garden was such a find! We made a big order, for 5 hungry adults and a toddler and everything was delicious, even after a 20 minute ride home. Not to miss: crab rangoon, chicken wings, pork fried rice, the pork dumplings (and dipping sauce!) sauteed string beans with garlic, sesame and scallion, shrimp with garlic sauce, boneless spareribs, and mapo tofu were standouts. I'd heard so many good things about this place from locals-which I now think is due to the fact that it's the only Asian cuisine within miles. I ordered delivery through takeoutguys and specifically instructed for extra peanuts and a side of hot sauce with my pad thai. Not only did it come with neither, but the food was very disappointing. There's a skimp amount of chicken in it, and the sauce is sweet. It sits in the container on a bed of soup, which probably weakens flavor further. I also ordered spicy fried chicken wings and chose the spiciest option they had, and "hot" would be a generous description of its spice level. It's pure salt with no spice. read more

What a breath of fresh air. New ownership & a fresh new look with brand new bar complete with flat screen. To start we walked in to not one but two hosts making us feel welcome. Such a friendly upbeat vibe from the staff made us smile right away:-) We started with pork pot stickers steamed (but you can have them fried) & spring rolls. As I reached for the soy sauce for the pot stickers our waiter told me know have this it tastes better & presented a lovely soy/ginger dipping sauce which better complimented the app. Spring tools were fresh & light but a little ho hum. Mostly just cabbage. For our entree (I can never eat a whole entree by myself)we chose General Tso's Chicken and the House Lo Mein. The Chicken didn't disappoint was perfectly cooked not too dry. The plating was fun with a carrot shaped as a fish (see photo) a touch of whimsy. The Lo Mein was better than any in the area with pork chicken veggies & shrimp. Most places skimp in the shrimp but not here. My date had the Mai Tai which was served in a pint glass vs the traditional high ball glass. He said it was excellent which makes me realize...he never asked me if I wanted a sip! I had a glass of the William Hill Chardonnay. Speaking of beverages there is one odd thing...when we sat down we asked for hot tea, as it was rainy & raw & we wanted a warm up...the tea came in coffee mugs! I have never had tea served this way. Don't get me wrong it was good, but I like the teapot & cups without handles...we laughed about it. Rather than dessert we were escorted into the bar where our host/waiter made us a nightcap & had the Bruins game on (Thursday night football was at other smaller bar) then he told us about there upcoming events including Halloween costume party & trivia nights.
