Just tried Asia Cafe for the first time and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. I ordered the dinner combination with crab rangoons, beef, chicken fingers, and pork fried rice--everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. I also added egg rolls and pork wonton soup, and both were just as good. You can tell they really care about the quality of their food. Great portions, great flavor, and everything tasted fresh. This was my first visit, but it definitely won't be my last. I'll be back to try more from the menu. Highly recommend! read more

A for effort, quality, value, effectivenes, service & speed. I generally enjoy this place. This is not the "best" Chinese food or the "most authentic." This isn't the nicest of ambiance or dining settings. People need to judge this place for what it is and for its context. Some key factors to consider...this place is located in southern Maine in a relatively rural town with generally only a few options right in town - for restaurants, services, groceries, etc. Without going to Dover or Portsmouth this is it. This place is definitely not a destination restaurant. If you do not live in nearby in South Berwick, Rollinsford or Eliot and/or have reason for being nearby, than I wouldn't make a special trip to come here. All that aside, this is what it is...an American version of Chinese food that is decently prepared and pretty fresh & decent quality. Their goal appears to be to serve take-out food, quickly and at reasonably affordable prices. They seem to be accomplishing this task. I don't think they're trying to win awards or have you come here for a night on the town. They just want to get you fed. So I am a big Chinese food skeptic. When I travel, I never get chinese food, there are many chinese places in the area I avoid. When my husband and I moved to Rollinsford we were sad to leave our faves, but were so lucky when we found the Asia Cafe. Right over the border they are quick and the food is very fresh and made to order. We don't normally sray from a staple of favorites (chicken fingers, awesome chicken terriaki, chicken lo mein and fresh fried rice) but when I have (peking dumplings, general tsos) it has all been very good. My second time here. I must admit I felt insulted having to show my photo ID to use my bank card. I felt like a criminal. When I got home with the food I realized I'd forgotten that their lobster sauce was very watery and flavorless - not what I'm used to. The chicken wings looked gray and limp and the beef teriaki wasn't grilled - it looked and tasted stewed??? My dog liked it though. The Kung Pao Chicken and white rice was very good though. It's been 4 years since my last review. See my last review for why it's been that long. We do really like the food and will occasionally go back even though the woman (the mother of the two young cashiers) is so very rude, nasty, and always assumes you are trying to steal from her. My order is never right--something is always missing and they won't give you duck sauce even if you pay for it--so I have reverted to unpacking my take out bag in the restaurant to make sure everything is there. I'm sorry if that seems rude, but I live over 20 minutes away and usually when I call to say something is not in the bag they tell me I'm lying because they put it in the bag. Seriously?!?! Why would I bother calling if you are offering me nothing to fix the mistake? You can't make this up! This time I ordered for my family of 4 and unpacked the bag in the restaurant only to find that the soup I ordered was missing. The young girl came over and looked through my whole order and then proclaimed that I never ordered soup and would need to pay for it if I wanted it. I was upset, but agreed to pay and handed her my card. She then said she couldn't run a card for less than $5!! Wait? What? This was your mistake, not mine. So she figured out how to add the cost of the soup to the original bill by including the amount as a tip on my credit card slip. As I waited for the soup I asked why the mother seemed so upset with me and the kid said she says I always have a problem with my order and she thinks I'm trying to steal...well is it my fault that it's always wrong??? So I start getting upset at this point and ask for an itemized receipt for my order, to which the kids says, they don't do that. I say I have every right to see what I paid for and make him had write what I ordered, what each item cost me, and the total with tip. When he does this, he quickly realizes I did in fact already pay for the soup!!!! No apology though, just a quick change of my credit card slip and hands me the soup. All of this makes a scene in front of the two couples dining in and I am mortified. How is it that when they thought I was stealing from them, it was a huge problem, but now that I prove they were stealing from me, it's no big deal? This place is an absolute disaster and should be shut down! Ten year olds are running the register, making many mistakes because they are too young, and probably being beaten by their angry mom as a result. In addition...it's just not okay to treat customers this way. I should have taken my own advice from 4 years ago and stayed away!!! read more

First shot at sampling the Asian restaurant offerings in the Berwick / Somersworth / Dover area. I wasn't overly impressed, fairly mediocre I would say. I ordered the General Tso's chicken dinner with a side of fried dumplings. Both were pretty bland and empty of flavor - I ended up dousing everything with soy sauce about half-way through the meal. I was debating between 2 or 3 stars but settled on 3 because of their friendly service. While I'm living in the area, however, I'll continue searching for better options. read more

I've had chinese food across the states (+San Gabriel Valley) and in several provinces of China during business trips over 3 years. This place is good. Very good. Classic cantonese, American style chinese food. I eat here once a week if I can. The dishes come out hot and flavorful. My favorite dishes are the house special lo mein, Pu Pu platter for one, and the sesame shrimp. There is not much to the decor and seating, a majority of people are ordering take-out. But, all the greatest noodle shops worth their wonton are food first, decor second. The family running this place cooks with heart and I am pleased to say this is some of the best chinese food north of the Piscataqua. read more

Just had take out. Pupu Platter, chow mein, and fried rice. Would be hard pressed to call it mediocre. Obviously, most of the fried items came from the freezer and low quality. Most of these reviews don't weigh in one important factor: value. If I spend more than $10-15 for dinner my expectations would be high. You can literally feed a family of four for under $20, which can't be said to most places in the area that aren't McDonalds. The combination plates come in heaping sizes. The chicken fingers are less greasy than most of the others in the area too. Maybe it's not the best chinese food you'll ever eat, but for the service and the value (and the fact it's in Maine), I am glad it is in town. There are few places I would get take out over here. As for a review complaining that they asked for a photo ID to be used with your bank card, you should be commending them, not getting all upset. In an age of identity theft, more businesses should do such a thing. I don't know how many times I've written "see photo ID" and have no one ever bother to ask for one. read more

Tommy & his staff offer excellent food in large portions @ a very reasonable price to boot. The lunch specials could easily serve 2-3 people alone. On Friday, 4/17/15, early evening, we placed a telephone order for Chinese food with Asia Cafe located at 233 Main Street in South Berwick, Maine, which is 6-7 miles from our home. We ordered a chicken rice disk with chicken teriyaki and beef moo shu with pancakes, a necessary ingredient for the meal (like buns are crucial for a Big Mac). I specifically heard my wife confirm on the telephone that the beef moo shu included the pancakes. We paid and collected the order. At home upon our inspection, the beef moo shu had no pancakes and the other meal's chicken teriyaki had a noticeable bite mark in it so that part of it was missing. I immediately called Asia Cafe and explained the situation. The Asian Cafe employee (a 10-year-old boy who we saw when we picked up the order) indicated that they forgot to include it and suggested that we return to collect the pancakes. I mentioned the damaged chicken teriyaki. He put me on hold and then said that he could do nothing about it. I requested to speak with the owner or manager so told me that we could collect the pancakes the next time we placed an order, which did not make sense since it is crucial to the meal at hand. I informed the person that I could not return to collect the pancakes that evening and that it was not my error and that they should deliver the pancakes and replaced the chicken teriyaki or we could return the order later untouched. She said that it did not matter because all sales were final. I then requested a credit. She refused to provide a credit. We disposed of most of the order. I then called back on Monday, 4/20/15. I was told to drive to the location and they would give me one dollar, which is unacceptable. There have been no developments since that interaction. read more
