Yesterday was my first time trying Orient Express. My girlfriend and I wanted hibachi and after so research we landed here. When we arrived the host was pretty nice, told us it was a wait, and we could wait at the bar for some drinks. That we did. We sit at the bar and immediately the bartender walks up and says "what do you want?". No drink menu, no hello, no anything. I don't think I need to mention but YES, YES WE ARE anywho he finally gives us a menu and proceeds to ask "what do we want" at this point I'm bothered so I tell him wait. *proceeds to order two lemon drops". Shortly after we was seated with a group of people and this is when it was made clear that what I was feeling was true. The Asian lady comes over,speaks( not to us), and literally asks every single person for their drink order and skips over my Gf and I. Yes yes and before you say it YES YES THEY WERE. My gf is like did she just skip over us and not ask what we want to drink. I brush it off with it could be because we have our drinks from the bar smh. She comes back with everyone's drinks and hands us waters that we didn't ask for. Anywho I pay it no mind because I was fine with my lemon drop but it was the principal. Next it's time to order food. And to paint the picture my gf and I are sitting at the end, closest to the cook and waiter. If you been to hibachi you know where we was. The lady again turns her back on us, nicely takes their orders every single person, when it was our turn she walks away to hand out menus to another table and at this moment I was fuming. But the interesting part was the lady who was across from us with the group noticed how she was treating us and she gave us this look like wtf was that.. and I'm like ok so we aren't tripping. She finally comes back, takes our order, and that was that. The cook comes, confirms the orders, HES RUDE but to everyone it seemed. He cooks the food. Gives the two of the people in the group extra shrimp when they order just chicken and yes I ordered shrimp and chicken. I was so confused as to what was happening and Atp I was over it. We get our bill, pay, and when I go to get change to TIP yes... TIP attitude was giving. And at that moment I wanted to just walk out without tipping but that's not me. Its not surprising to me that we was treated this way even though our people patronize these businesses the most. NAIL SALONS, BEAUTY SUPPLY STORES, WHOLESALE, ETC. before we start screaming STOP ASIAN HATE, let's talk about how we are treated everyday by the Asian community. I love eating here! The food is so good. I read the reviews where people complained about the Hibachi side but I've only eating hibachi here once and it was good. Every time we come, it's for the other menu items so we have only sat at the Hibachi table once. I love how laid back and chill the place is. I have come both when my son was stroller small and now that he's getting older and can sit in a chair and it's been pretty laid back all times. There are a few places that I feel comfortable taking a small child to and I always choose this place because it's not crowded, food comes out super fast, and it's very tasty. read more

Our chef's name was Juan and he was pretty thorough. The food was over flowing off of our plates and we definitely have leftovers for tomorrow. We ordered the Chef's special which consists of chicken, steak and shrimp. Grab a Sapporo for the wait because it gets busy on the weekends. The staff is very attentive and the food is so yummy. I come here all the time for lunch as they are close to my job. The parking situation isn't the most ideal, I am always afraid that I am going to come out to a big dent. The spaces are very tight! The staff does such a great job of catering to your every need and they are extremely polite. I recommend this place over and over again! My favorite dishes are the sweet and sour chicken and won-ton soup. Their crab rangoons aren't that good. They have waaaay too much cream cheese and not enough meat. One of the best sushi experiences I've had in the South. It was a surprise to me that in Smyrna lies a great restaurant not far from the business district. I was impressed with the atmosphere and ambiance when I came to dine here!! The dining area has a cozy charm to it. I was impressed by the sushi and sashimi offerings here as we're my two guests! This place was recommended by a co-worker for my sons bday (because kids love hibachi and yum yum sauce) and I was so pleased with both the food and service. I actually decided to go back again for a date and I can say I enjoyed the meal much more than my date! Everything was cooked perfectly, nice portions, sushi was delicious and the Hibachi chef was thoroughly entertaining. Took my mother here while she was in town. It was both our first time at Orient Express and it was pretty great. We were seated on the Chinese side. Not having been before, we wanted to get a big selection of things to try, so we ordered the Choo Choo Platter, which was a sampler of like 5 appetizers (fried wings, potstickers, fried shrimp, spring rolls, and ribs), House Lo Mien, and Almond Fried Chicken. The amount of food was worth the money. Plates came out hot and quick and food was very delicious. The interior was very interesting since it is inside of a train car. The restaurant is situated in a rail car. Really neat! The atmosphere is cozy but not cramped. We chose to order off of the regular menu since Hibachi was a 45 minute wait and we had a concert to attend. We started with Salt and Pepper Calamari, which had a light and crisp batter on it, along with peppers. It was good but not raving good. Entrees: Shrimp and Broccoli, a vegetable stir fry for the vegetarian with us, and Thai Coconut Curry Shrimp. Entrees were plentiful - enough for two full meals! The shrimp were large and they didn't skimp on them. As others have said, the parking lot is tight so I would plan to arrive early. They do not take reservations for under groups of 5. Top 5. I have been a regular for years even before the renovations. It's a stationary train with three carts. One cart Hibachi, one sushi and the other sushi. Although you can order from either room, this place is very appropriate for a date, a business meeting or girls night. The prices are moderate but well worth the taste. On this visit we ordered a shrimp fried rice, miso soup, spider roll, super crunch, Georgia roll, bubba grump, and philly roll. I suggest them all. We arrived to celebrate my dad's bday with my family. We were seated quickly as the place was fairly empty at 6pm on a Friday. That quickly changed. We were on the hibachi side. The waitress came to take our order but there was a slight confusion due to language barrier. Our drinks arrived and we're mixed well. The chef then arrived to start his "show". The food was good, well seasoned and portions generous. As we were eating, the restaurant started to rapidly fill up. Dinner rush I guess. Then another waitress shows up with a pile of takeout boxes and asks everyone if they want there plates boxed. My brother was still eating. What?! Then the check gets put on the table. Now I'm really feeling rushed!! Is there no offer of dessert? At least they allowed him to finish eating. Lol!! It's my birthday and I was told there's a 5 min wait, which turned into 15 minutes until we were seated and another 45 min before the hibachi chef started cooking. Not sure why there was such a lengthy delay, no explanation or update provided. Had to go to the manager to get refills for our side. Disappointing. I really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. It is also decorated very nicely. Huge restrooms and booths for seating. The food was good for everyone at my table however, my meal was not what I expected. I am an egg foo young kinda girl and there wasnt enough egg or foo young. This place is cool and has multiple food options - Chinese, Japanese (sushi, etc) and hibachi style. It's a cool place (a train) and next to the train tracks. The parking looked like it would be difficult but it was fine for me. They have a whole outside area that will be nice in fall/spring. Food: I had hibachi as it'd been a long time for me. I went for scallops and steak on their combo. The presentation was as good as many hibachi places - onion volcano, throwing rice everywhere, it was cool. It turned out very good in the end. Service was also very good and fast. I accidentally ordered a non alcoholic beer (what an idiot) and they changed it out for me at no cost. I recommend this place for sure, but I think due to parking you may want to try it on a week night rather than a weekend. read more

We ordered the hot and sour soup, Tangerine Chicken, Shrimp Fried Rice and Shrimp with Vegetables. I am a very tough critic when it comes to "Orange Chicken", and I must say I was impressed. The chicken was lightly battered and almost pan fried in a nice tangerine sauce. The shrimp in vegetables cooked in the brown sauce was the way to go, based on a recommendation from the waitress. The shrimp fried rice was done nicely and was full of flavor. I must say this place has excellent service, my glass was never empty. I am so disappointed with my experience at Orient Express. I planned a Field Trip for the students of my cooking class and their parents. I called OE two weeks prior and made a reservation with the owner for 20 kids and 16 adults which required 4 grills and 4 chefs. The next day, I drove to the restaurant to view the facility. I met with the owner's partner and confirmed my reservation. The following week, I emailed our menu selection. Plus, I drove to the restaurant again to discuss parking for the bus. The week of the event, I called the day before and confirmed our arrangements with the manager. The day of the event, we called the restaurant as we were driving over. When we arrived 15 minutes later, they were not prepared for us. They started taking orders on a predetermined menu. They served drinks to the children, then when they realized drinks were not included, they took them out of the hands of the children. They didn't have enough Hibachi chefs. Half our group was finished eating before they started cooking for the other half. Then I was told that they quoted me the wrong price. After I expressed my disappointment, they agreed to honor the price quoted. The servers seemed totally blindsided. They were clueless to what was going on. One of the chef showed that frustration in his performance, or lack of. This was definitely a top-down problem. Owners and managers should be ashamed of themselves. Favorite Chinese spot by far. I drive here weekly from Cherokee County. Good, delicious quality Chinese food is very difficult to find. I have frequented this place for years. The service is great, and the food is fantastic! . The lunch specials come with soup or salad and spring rolls. The sushi is fresh and tasty. My favorite roll is the seafood tempura roll. I love the egg foo young, general tso shrimp and chicken dishes, chicken fried rice, spring rolls and hot and sour soup. Their hibachi is the best in the city. After getting some hibachi at Orient Express, we headed outside to go back home. As we were walking back to our cars, I heard someone trying to get our attention, "excuse me! Young man!" I turned to see who it was. It was a sweet old woman. She seemed like she needed some information. "Yes?" I said as I walked towards her. She wasn't a gangbanger, so I wasn't that worried. But it was strange that an old lady wanted my attention. Maybe she was in trouble since she was alone. She looked relieved as we acknowledged her. "Young man, you're Oriental. So this place must be authentic. Can you recommend me what to get here?" I gave a sly smile at her. But I tried to be civil though, and she didn't mean any harm. "Well," I said as I tried to think what could be good at Orient Express, "I guess you can try sushi. They have decent sushi here." "Oh... I'm not much of a sushi person." I tried to think of something else. Honestly, I never tried their Chinese food. I only tried their hibachi and sushi. And I did think their sushi tasted good. Except it was a bit overpriced. As for the hibachi, everyone knows hibachi is the same anywhere: you have a Mexican or Filipino chef cooking you mediocre fried rice with decent cuts of meat such as filet mignon or lobster. They usually try to wow the crowd as they flip and spin their kitchen utensils. However, I have never heard of a hibachi chef that has successfully completed their routine without messing up. As I tried to think of something good to eat at Orient Express, she chimed proudly, "oh, but I'm quite familiar with Asian cuisine. I like General Tso's Chicken, cashew chicken, and so on." Now that almost made me laugh. But I successfully stifled it. "Well, they do have Chinese food." I said trying to sound helpful. "But I'm not sure if it's good since I never had it." "Oh." She looked disappointed as she couldn't get an authentic, Oriental, Elite Yelper's opinion of Orient Express. "Well, I guess I'll go try it anyway." "Yeah, you should. And then you can tell me if this place was good or not." She understood my humor. "Sure, next time I see I'll make sure to tell you." Driving along Paces Ferry, my eyes were delighted to fall upon the magical Orient Express. As soon as I saw the makeshift train station setup of this restaurant, I knew that I had to go there. My friend and I stopped in early one Sunday evening for a sushi dinner. The "station" of a restaurant is divided into three units: one for sushi, one for chinese, and another for Hibachi. I didn't get a chance to really explore the inside as we decided to sit outside on the patio for a prime view of the train platform design of the exterior. I felt like a little kid because I thought that this was so freaking cool. The sushi menu was reasonable, but a bit on the pricier side (keep in mind that this is coming from the girl who has grown accustomed to the moderately priced menu at Maki Fresh). The small seaweed salad was $5.50, and the scallop roll that I ordered was about $8.00. Our server was very pleasant and accommodating. When I requested a non-spicy scallop roll, he obliged my request. When I mentioned that the texture was a bit a mayonnaise-y for my liking, he immediately sent the roll back and had it re-made. I am always partial to a place where the staff will do whatever it takes to improve the experience for the customer, and that is just what they did here. The restaurant was also a diverse, family friendly place. I noticed a lot of daddy and son dates around us, and there were a few elderly couples indulging in quality asian delicacies. Clearly, the joint has widespread appeal. The location is a bit far from my Buckhead apartment, so I wouldn't go out of my way to go back there. There are just too many great sushi/asian places closer to home! Just a note...I might have given the place 5 stars had I not had my appetite slightly ruined by the canoodling couple on the bench outside of the lovely little train station. She was comfortably curled up in his lap as he stroked her hair. That's precious and all, but not what I'm trying to see when I'm dining with a friend in a family establishment. short story: good food but overpriced. long story: I've been to Orient Express several times, mostly when I used to live in the area. The food has always been good, sometimes better than others, but I've always found the prices just a little too high. Maybe they're inflated because of the train decor... I love the premise of three in one, but it's can be a problem. Last night when I went with a large group, we decided on hibachi because we were told that you could order sushi at the hibachi table, but they failed to mention that there's a $7 fee for those people sitting at the hibachi table who don't order hibachi... so they were effectively penalized for ordering sushi at the hibachi bar. I have been there on a slow night where they let us sit in the Chinese section and order hibachi, but I guess that's only in those circumstances. The prices in general are a bit steep. I got the veggie hibachi since it was the only one under $15, and then was charged $2.50 extra for the fried rice. Now I know hibachi is expensive, but what are the chances that you're going to order hibachi with plain rice, and for that price, you're telling me they can't include it?! The food is good - the Chinese is flavorful and not too greasy, the fish in the sushi is fresh, and the hibachi includes plenty of veggies. I guess if you immediately split the meal in half and either share with your friend or save it for lunch the next day, then it makes it a little more reasonable. read more

The name is almost as offensive as the food. I get that is comes from the idea of the famed "Orient Express" and the fact that the restaurant is essentially a train car. But I don't know any Asians that like to be associated with anything orient-al. And they sure don't want to be associated with the food at this place. I supposed the old rule of, "location is everything" applies here. The Orient Express is located on prime real estate in Vinnings and the whole train car thing definitely draws your eye. That is the best of it, 'cause of the rest of it ain't worth crossing the tracks. I think the Panda Express has better food. read more

I visited this place around 2:00pm on Wednesday afternoon - and it was completely deserted. I was a little concerned. What happened to the 1:30 lunch crowd??!! It seemed a little ominous. Oh well. I was not to be dissuaded. The service was very friendly. The interior was gorgeous. Sleek, quiet, upscale looking - lots of dark cherry walls, real linen table cloths. Exactly what you would expect from a Chinese place in Vinings. But the food was just ho-hum. A group of 7 of us were staying at the Hotel Indigo and walked down here for dinner. We sat in the sushi room. Usually I like to get Sashimi, but they only had a Sashimi deluxe option for $40 which seemed like way too much. Where's the Sashimi regular for $25? Ended up getting General Tso Chicken because I had just watched the documentary Finding General Tso and I wanted to pay my respects to this pioneering dish. It didn't disappoint and it was crunchy and sweet with the touch of heat you expect from the General. There's a reason this dish has endured. I was impressed that they brought out the Japanese and Chinese food at the same time, since a lot of these types of places will bring out things from one kitchen much too early. The sushi rolls looked good and everyone enjoyed their meal. The only thing was they don't have a great beer selection, other than the standard Japanese brews. I like this restaurant- I like its decor, and the rail car, and the food is decent. So there. Some of my family members work next to this restaurant, and we meet there sometimes for dinner when they get off work. All in one location you can decide if you want Japanese hibachi, or sushi, or stick with their tasty Chinese food. Each room has a different ambiance, and the rail car is always fun to sit in- It makes you feel like you're on an old dining train. But I too, wish it moved! One thing I do not like about this place is the parking. The parking lot is very tight and cramped, and if you can't get a spot in the paved lot, you have to park your car in the back of the restaurant. In the dirt, next to the train tracks. I do not like being near train tracks. I wouldn't say this is the best restaurant I've ever been to, but it's a cute place to take the kids! read more

While I was still living in Vinings, I became an awkward regular at Orient Express. The novelty of the box car originally drew me in, but, eventually, it stuck for the convenient sushi fix that was only a few minutes away, and, well, that it simply wasn't half-bad. Orient Express is indeed located within a train box car shell and has the options of Chinese, hibachi, or a sushi bar for your dining experience. As I've never been much a fan of hibachi, and I leave the Chinese food for take out, we did, however, help ourselves to the sushi bar far too much. After looking over some of the other Yelper's thoughts and sum-ups, I'd guess I wasn't missing too much by skipping the hibachi and the Chinese and chowing down only on the sushi myself. I wasn't ever expecting anything traditionally Japanese, and my expectations for the most part were average on our first few visits, but the consistency and quality of the sushi definitely kept bringing us back. I normally get unagi and unagi related maki, but I really enjoy their rainbow roll and several other non-gimmicky rolls. That said, a majority of their menu is flamboyant and full of trendy, specialty maki. I've never really gotten anything simple from this place, but they do well with what rolls and options they advertise. The place feels a tad overpriced though, for things like rice bowls, but they can be semi-elaborate. Despite being a box car, you don't really feel like you're inside one except at the entrance. Though the ambiance makes great date night atmosphere, and it's normally never very crowded, at least in the sushi area. My suggestion is to possibly try the sushi first, and if you like that, try the other sections too, but I'd definitely give them a go on their sushi. read more
