Woohooo Orale is open!!! if anybody remembers the amazing Mi Casa Su Casa restaurant on University Ave, St Paul that closed last year - these are the same owners, just their new restaurant! This restaurant is more focused on the Mexican food stuffs, but they do have a Filipino taco that has sisig on it! I hope they add more Filipino dishes in the future! I loved their halo halo lol Anyways, Orale is now open and I'm so happy! I LOVE their california burrito!! Not that many places in MN make the California burrito (with french fries inside) but Orale has it and it is soo yum All their meats, sauces, etc. are home made. I love the sauces! Clean new space, good seating. I wish they would add a little water station with cups so you could fill up your own water , but they will give you a cup of water at the cashier when you order but sometimes I get very thirsty when I eat so it would be nice to be able to re-fill it easily lol anyways, Cant wait to go back soon and try more stuff! The swimming burrito is Ah-mazing. It feels pretty modern and casual. One of my favorite local spots!

Justin makes a great mojito. The house margarita was poured by hand and was top notch. She was going to get the chicken enchiladas but Justin convinced her to go with the pastor. I had the swimming burrito al pastor. Both were delicious and there was a LOT of food. The salsas verde and rojo were excellent as well. We'll definitely return! read more

I'm not a fan of counter service restaurants and went here thinking this place had table service and I almost left when I saw the counter. Leaving would have been a big mistake! The young woman at the counter was as friendly and helpful as any professional waitress I've ever had (they do deliver the food to your table when it's ready) and the enchiladas were out of this world! Some of the best I have ever had. I later saw a cozier area further in the back so next time (and I think there will be many more "next times,") I'll venture a little further back (I think there's even a bar). This does not feel or taste like fast food thanks to the gracious service and authentic cooking. read more

Delicious! We were soooo hungry when we went here, we ate all of our French fries on the drive home! Tip: plain french fries (without meat) are not on the menu, but you can still get them! they were pretty good, they had a little bit of seasoning on them, which we love. And we really loved that they had a robust selection of vegetarian offerings. My husband had the vegetarian enchiladas, which were amazing, and I had the fish tacos, which were really good; I did have some bones though, which I guess happens. I liked the doubled up blue corn tortillas and the pickled onions on top of the fish, and it was battered and cooked nicely. We also had the guacamole which was great, definitely everything you look for in a guacamole, and don't miss the Elote corn in the cob- SO MUCH FLAVOR! And since it was DH's bday we got the Tres Leches cake, and we were so glad! It was yummy! Our only complaint is we didn't get any salsas, even though I asked the clerk if he put salsas in there and he said he gave me one of each. We didn't get any. It's a very small complaint though, and we will definitely be back! They also had a cute little bar area and a super robust local beer menu, if you are comfortable drinking indoors these days. read more

My wife and I were in the mood for Mexican food and decided to try Orale since the reviews were good and it is close to our house. Orale is located in a small neighborhood strip mall at the corner of Nicollet and 54th street in south Minneapolis. There is ample parking in the adjoining lot. We opted for curbside takeout which worked well. Both my wife and I grew up in Texas and are very fond of good Mexican food which isn't easy to find here in Minnesota. I am often disappointed but this time I was very pleased with the quality of the food and I am certain we shall return. We ordered the guacamole and chips and esquitos for appetizers and the enchiladas and chili relleno dinners for our main course. I made margaritas. Here is my recipe- two parts premium tequila, one part Cointreau, fresh squeezed juice of one or two limes and one orange with a little salt and a lot of ice. You should be able to taste the tequila and the citrus must be fresh squeezed. The orange juice is non-traditional but goes well with the Cointreau. This is so much better than Margaritas in chain restaurants which are basically frozen lime aide with a whiff of cheap tequila. Any way, back to my review. Our main courses came with black beans and Mexican style rice. Everything was really excellent. I love chili rellenos (these can be a challenge) and this one was very good. Took a chance here only because Best Steak House next door was closed on Monday. Order from a counter like a fast food chain. I ordered a la carte and got exactly what I wanted at a reasonable price. Finally stopped in this past weekend after checking out The Museum of Russian Art. Very COVID friendly and respectful. Food was quick and insanely tasteful. There is some construction inside but it's for a margarita bar! Looking forward to that in the next couple of weeks. Staff was nice and helpful. The food was pretty tasty. It's a good menu. A bit different than most other Mexican places around. I think they need to work out some details. I ordered a classic margarita--it was ok. Kind of had that soapy taste you get from a premixed--I'd take the time to squeeze lemons and limes--and control the sugar. I ordered some chips with poblano chili cheese--it wasn't bad...but the poblanos were cut into these long Juliane strips that you couldn't get into a chip--just chop them and mix them into the cheese so they can be scooped up. I'm ok that they don't bother to make their own chips from scratch (that turns out - inconsistent product)--but serve them warm and get some salt on them so they taste more special. I had a fish taco--pretty solid. I also had a Filipino BBQ taco--that was good, I'd I recommend that (maybe ask for extra pineapple). Overall pretty solid--seemed like the staff is mostly still learning--but they were friendly and food came out quick. Clean tables and floor. Good job. read more

Orale is a good spot to grab a burrito treat. They have many protein options which can be confusing on the menu. Some of the proteins are great, and others are terrible. I recommend asking the staff about the protein options before making your order. I would say this place reminds me of an upscale Taco Bell in the best way possible. read more

Typical white version of Mexican food. I tried the fish tacos, lengua tacos, and steak quesadilla. The lengua and salsa was good. The rest was pretty bad, the fish was definitely frozen and had zero flavor. The steak was grisly and overall not great; and even though their tortillas weren't the typical crap from the grocery store shelves they still weren't good. I can only guess all the good reviews are either from something I didn't try or just people that haven't had good mexican food. I was devastated when two of our fave taco places went out of business during this crazy time. We had visited the business that took up this space before and I was less than impressed so hesitated in trying Orale. Thanks to yelp and all the good reviews it looked like I was missing out - and I was! Orale is amazing. First of all I judge a place by its al pastor, and here its amazing. So so so amazing. Secondly elote. So many places try and its doesn't work. Yes $4 for corn might be a bit much, but its so worth it. I love that you can pick mild or spicy! I've also become a fan of their choriqueso. It was the app I never knew I needed. I also love their online ordering. It makes it so easy to grab on the way home, and get in and out quickly. They do have inside and patio seating if you'd like to hang. But the take away is pretty slick. I am so happy to have a new taco joint. read more

Doesn't look like much when you walk by - it's located in a little strip mall and there wasn't much around it. My boyfriend and I decided to stop by after spending some time by the lake and goign for a short jog - but we were ravenous. Decided to pick up and take the food back out to the lake for a picnic. We ordered about 6 tacos (3 fish, 2 chicken and a Carne asada) as well as 2 Elotes (Corn on the cob Spicy! with cotija cheese) as well as Jarritos for drinks. The restaurant was rapid and our order was nearly ready as soon as we walked in. When we decided to at last minute order an extra taco they were gracious and made th change quite easily which we were thankful for. Now....down to the food. The fish tacos are by far the best. Five of us (4 from out-of-town) met for dinner based on Yelp reviews - and it was a great evening. It was the perfect low-key atmosphere on a cold weekday night, the food and drinks were delicious, and the bartender was great! Although not a real drinker, I'd highly recommend the Mangonada. As a lover of fruity poolside drinks - even apparently when it's snowing out - it was delicious! Others were raving about their various Mojitos and Margaritas, so I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their drinks menu. We shared orders of Choriqueso (melted jalapeño queso topped w/ house-made chorizo, served w/ house-made chips) and Esquites (kernel corn stewed in Mexican herbs and chicken broth, topped with mayo, cojita cheese, and chili powder) which were both excellent. Full disclosure, I think I came close to eating my body weight in their house-made chips, they were so delicious. We chose the Esquites instead of ordering Elote (a fave for us), given that corn-on-the-cob is not currently in season, but we vowed to return over the summer for their Elote. Everyone loved the dishes, which included Alambres, Burritos, Burrito Bowl, Tacos, and Fajitas, and I'd highly recommend choosing the al pastor for your protein. The portions are very generous! My apologies for not including photos, but we were so involved in conversation and happily passing dishes for each of us to try that by the time it was realized, there wasn't much beauty left on plates to be photographed.
