Disclaimer: I haven't bought glasses here before. However, I have used their services. I bought a pair of plastic (acetate frames) from a different chain that shall remained unnamed during a great sale. Let's called them Store A. Store A added in titanium nose pads at an additional charge since glasses slide off my face without them. When I got my glasses, I noticed they hadn't removed the plastic bits that would normally serve as the nose pad. As a result, the titanium ones couldn't be adjusted further in for me. I tried to get used to them as it but I would get headaches wearing them. Enter Optical Thirty 8 which was suggested to me after lamenting to my friend about how unhappy my new glasses. I spoke with the staff who were all extremely helpful. I was able to leave it with them and I think Paul (their technician/optician) took them and was able to shave it down for me. He polished it up very nicely. They did warn me that they would have to remove the titanium pads and reinstall with some glue so the hold might not be as good. My glasses feel great now and everything looks great. they only charged me a small fee. Probably the next place to get glasses, especially since they have a wide selection of plastic frames with asian fit. read more

I got a pair of glasses and contacts here. Great selection and service. Prices are on par or better than any store I've shopped at.

Huge shoutout to Narma...associate very nice and friendly...will help you look for a great glasses. Clean profrssional place with the right price tags. read more

Will see if they refund my glasses. I picked them up without looking too much. Got home and realized it is a different frame than I tried on. Not happy. read more

Do not do business here! The wait time after ordering glasses are double what they say and when they come in they are completely wrong!!!! Totally dissatisfied and disgusted by the manager!! read more

there is a definite difference in service between shops. i got my very first pair of glasses from the SCARBOROUGH optical 38 shop. along with delays in receiving my glasses, the service i received was missing other key elements [i was told to take my glasses home and try them out for a few weeks, then i could drop in and tweak them if required]. naturally i did need to tweak them, but i went a week of pain and discomfort. i went to the QUEEN street west store and was warmly and sincerely greeted by staff there. they adjusted the nose pads to soft silicone ones and balanced out the glasses, etc. they felt sooooo much better. i'm looking for a second pair and sunglasses and will go to queen street - they deserve my business. i can not recommend the scarborough store. read more

Purchased a Groupon in October of 2013 for this place simply because I wanted some updated, funky frames. I had no need for new glasses as I have a perfectly good pair at home and tend to wear contacts more frequently than glasses. Upon walking in I was greeted warmly and was asked if I wanted water or tea (very nice gesture). I explained my situation and that I was not really in the market per se, but just taking advantage of a great Groupon deal. It was a non-issue. I wanted to stay in a specific price range and they respected that and to top it off they gave me a pack of free daily contacts to try and several pairs of coloured contacts just for fun. Taking the husband there today to update his frames. Nothing but good things to say. read more

Had a pretty smooth and good experience this time. I went back a couple of times to find some frames ... the gent the first time was really nice and empathetic about trying something radically different. I had some maybes, and he kindly wrote down the model numbers for me in case I wanted to come back for them. He also noted that if they carried a brand, they could order any model from that brand if I wanted to try to price-match from another store. The second time, I found some frames I liked, but were too small for my face. When I asked the nice lady who was helping us, she nailed it and I bought them. They arrived less than a week later. The same lady adjusted them for me, and when I asked if she could adjust my other glasses as they were very crooked, she was extremely patient and nice. She did a great job. The only blip was that Optical doesn't let you use their Groupons for their promotional prices, which meant costs got bumped up. My boyfriend couldn't find anything for a price he liked, so he'll be back later ... they remembered him and were light-heartedly apologetic about his last experience. read more

Friendly staff, fast efficient service. I'm not too familiar with cost of glasses as I went in for my first pair. Price was good for me.

Love this place. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by wonderful super helpful associates who are well trained in helping you find that perfect pair of spectacles. Not only that, but Dr. Hughes was fantastic and very helpful. When my dry eyes were preventing Dr. H from writing a proper prescription, he told me to come back in two weeks as well as steps to help remedy the situation. It was a blessing in disguise as not only do my eyes feel better but when I went back they had the perfect frames picked out for me to try on and those ended up being the ones exactly for me. I've been here twice in the past two years for eye appointments and I wouldn't go anywhere else! Thanks boys for the great service and the green tea on this chilly winter day! read more

This place is fantastic. They are inviting and greet you from the moment you walk into the door. The only reason I went to this particular place for my new glasses was because I had a Groupon coupon which was expiring soon. I called ahead to check if I needed an appointment and they said to come down anytime. I did just that. As you walk in you notice the very wide variety of choices displayed nicely in cases all over the store and walls. Narma greeted me as I walked in and asked me to take a seat to discuss my needs. I had two prescriptions, one for nearsightedness and another for computer glasses. She took the time to check my current glasses with the prescription to help me decide if I needed to fill both prescriptions. Thankfully I only needed the computer glasses. With expertise she noted the shape of my face and made some suggestions as to shape and color of frames. I tried on several different and styles but kept going back to the first pair I tried on. It was great to see the variety of choice to make a good decision. The glasses took exactly the amount of time they noted for pick up and was called to be notified they were available for pick up. The ease of pick up was great. Everything was ready, they made adjustments for comfort as well as giving me a gift bag with cleaner, took kit and 2 little panda danglers for my phone. All in all a very enjoyable experience and will go back when it's time to fill my other prescription. read more

The service here is fantastic. No pressure whatsoever and they always give me a deal when I order multiple pairs. I feel like family when I come back here and they are really accommodating and easy to deal with. I recommend them to many friends and will continue to do so. I have nothing but good things to say! read more

Words can't describe how much I love this place. Optical Thirty 8 has a selection that serves a variety of styles and affordability. The efficiency and thoroughness of their onsite Optician, above and beyond level of customer service and amazing prices have me wanting more. I can't recommend this place enough and hope their stores grow more locations so more can enjoy. read more

Not quite a 5 but a 4.5. I enjoy Optical Thirty 8 because of the bright, open space and exceptional customer service. After my eye exam, I was given the space to wander and try on glasses with nobody breathing down my neck. I was given a few suggestions and got some feedback when I needed it and didn't feel pressured. I was also given some green tea not once but twice during my visit, from two separate employees. I felt their opinions about which glasses looked better were genuine and not based on the price of the frame. I highly recommend this spot for exams and for the purchase of frames and lenses. My glasses will be ready in a week :) read more

This place very welcoming because not many customers actually visiting this place, so you can feel yourself like special customer and sales treat you like one. Problem with glasses quality. It's one time visit place, go try and for your next glasses you will think about different place. read more

I went in to see Dr. Chen for an eye exam. He was professional and nice. His explanations were detailed but he kept the appointment going. He ensured I felt comfortable and answered any questions I had. He explained what he was doing and why, which kept me at eased during the appointment. I am not the greatest at taking eye drops but Dr. Chen was able to put them in my eyes very easily. I would recommend Dr. Chen to anyone who is looking for someone that is thorough, professional, kind and personable. read more

All the staff are super friendly, professional, and helpful! They offer really great deals too (like free trials on contacts, discounted frames with an eye exam). The price of an eye exam here is very reasonable. They have a wide range of frames at every price point. I would totally recommend these guys to everyone! read more

I bought a groupon to get some new glasses. I had an excellent experience here. I found the staff extremely helpful and courteous. I was told that my glasses would take up to two weeks but they called me within the week telling me that they were ready. My glasses came in a really nice case, with a cleaning cloth and cleaning solution. I only paid $19. for the Groupon. I got way more than I paid for. Highly recommend. read more

Went to put on my Ray Bans and noticed that the screw on the arm had gone missing and the arm fell off. Went to Optical Thirty 8 to see if they could repair it. Wow! Dr. Chan was amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable and truly caring. So glad we chose this business for our exams. Dr. Chan noticed a potential eye problem and helped me get further testing done. Thanks Yelpers for your great review and recommendation about this place. Had my eyes exam done, the optometrist was very thorough and then all the staffs are very friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Narma who picked out tons of frames for me to try on and gave me very neutral opinion on which looks best on me. They do not just sell products, but it is the service they provided will make me go back for sure! read more

These guys are awesome! Best selection, service and price. They will give you a really good deal, even with expensive Tom Fords, which is what I got for $160 less than the ticket price. I probably could have got him down more too. I think it's the best places to get glasses around the Queen west area. read more

I walked in because I researched good glasses places near my area and found this gem! Brandon helped me out and he was really nice, knowledgeable and accommedating. I also like the selection of glasses this place had compared to generic run of the mill glasses stores like Lensecrafters. In my opinion, the prices are fair for the quality you receive and again, the wide array of styles is a plus. When I need a new pair of glasses in the future, I think this will be my new go to place! I'm glad that I don't have to go to PMall for subpar lenses quality and frames breaking anymore read more

Great service and values. Got a pair of new prescription glasses (Ray Ban frame and 5-coating lenses) and the same replacing lenses on my previous frame for only 200 CAD. Free contact lenses for trial. Definitely will come back in the future. Strongly recommended. read more

Best service, reasonable price, decent store, what can you ask more! I had my eye exam here today, the doctors is really helpful and he answered all my questions, he even gave me a lesson on physics lol the staff working there is friendly and patience, thy never stand beside you all time like other store did, but if you need any help they will be there immediately! I got 30%off my frame, which I was not expecting, absolutely made my day!:) this is a five stars store, with six stars experience! read more

This store had a great selection (finally found attractive petite frames - yay Kate Spade!) and pricing, but the thing that sold me was the service! Dave is amazingly helpful, as is Mark. Everyone is so pleasant, and they even bring you a glass of water - a nice touch on a hot day! I had to change my prescription on a newly purchased pair of glasses (nothing to do with the glasses, just my eyes), and the service was amazing - no stress, and they really took their time to make sure that the new prescription worked, at no charge. Optical Thirty 8 will definitely be my go-to glasses shop from now on! read more

I was in the market for new glasses and was looking for a place that offer nice yet affordable frames. My prescription is not low and would require thinner lenses, which usually cost extra. I also prefer adding coatings such as anti-reflective, which also usually cost extra. I was going to order something online through places like Clearly Contacts and Zenni when I stumbled upon Optical Thirty 8 while searching online. From their website, I really like the sound of their business style. I liked: - 5 kinds of coatings are included with all single vision glasses purchase - they have products that fit different budgets, so you don't have to feel pressure or shy about how much you really want to spend - they got frames laid out openly so you can try on freely till you find the right ones Anyhow, I was even more excited to find out that they're opening up a new store at 623 Queen St W (close to Bathurst), much better than having to go their Sheppard store since I live downtown. So today, on opening day, I went in with my husband afterwork to check them out. I think just for looking, we got free gift bags which included lens cleaners, cleaning cloth and a little screwdriver in case you ever need a quick adjustment at home. The store was clean, super spacious and there was a lot frames laid out for you to try. Most frames were marked with color code stickers that correspond to a big price list displayed in the store. But what I was most impressed with was the service I received. Jacky Wong looked after us and he was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I also met Thara and the shop owner Gigi Wong and they were really friendly as well. These are very down to earth people and made my experience quite enjoyable. I did end up leaving the store with a great deal. I purchased a pair of Marc Jacob (single vision) glasses with super thin lenses, 5 types of coatings including the AR that I wanted, and even added transition. They also have a grand opening promo going on right now, 15% off entire purchase. I end up paying only about $260 for everything. Not bad at all, considering transition alone usually cost a minimum of $150 on its own at most places. So if you are in the market for a pair of new glasses, I highly recommend dropping by Optical Thirty 8 downtown. You will find great deals and friendly service. They will even offer you coffee while you try on frames. read more

Excellent service! Every sales associate there is really nice and they go beyond your expectation. Narma was the one helping me out from choosing frames, discussing about which lenses to go with, and arranging a time to pick up my new glasses. She is very patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. The entire process was pleasant and efficient. Definitely recommending this store. Will come here for all my vision care in the future. read more

Dr. Eng, the optometrist here, was amazing. This was by far the most thorough eye exam I've ever had, and bonus: all at a very reasonable price. I also ordered my contact lenses from them even though I usually order online because the price was similar. Life pro-tip: just don't get the dilation done on a bright summer's day when you have to walk over 30 mins to get home without sunglasses... Unless you want to burn your retinas right off. Not fun times. read more

The staff there were super friendly and helpful every step of the way. They were very professional and knowledgeable. They had a great selection and very reasonable prices. I will definitely go back for all my and my children's optical needs. Thank you Optical Thirty 8! read more

This place is the absolute worst. They broke my sister's glasses while polishing them and then "welded" them as a solution instead of offering a new pair. The welding job was shoddy at best and they snapped just a couple weeks later due to the cold weather. My family has spent a lot of money here because 3/5 of us wear glasses and they seemed great at first. But they are terribly ingenuous and obviously don't believe in making things right after ruining something. Seriously, stay away from this place. They'll have you pay for a service, break your belongings and then give you the run around when you expect them to fix it! read more

I came to this store in the fall based on the amazing reviews. I found two pairs of glasses that I liked and decided to purchase them. Throughout the process, I asked if they had any promotions going on and was told there wasn't. I paid full price for TWO pairs of glasses. Yet a couple of weeks later, they're advertising a Groupon that would have saved me a ton of money. So much for recommending these guys to friends and family. Won't be going back due to this customer service issue. read more

This place is really great. The staff is very professional, knowledgeable, and patient (Peter and Mark helped me). They have a great optometrist who (I think) is in every day. I ended up getting new frames, an eye exam, and the right lenses within a 24-hour period. Very fast, and very economical. I will go there from now on, and I am recommending it to friends. I just picked up my new glasses from Optical 38. I am very pleased with the glasses and the service. Every time entered the store the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. They offer free hot drinks and I never had to wait for service. I'm on ODSP, and I know some optical places don't treat ODSP people well, but that was not the case here. They helped me look for affordable frames to minimize my out of pocket expenses. I also purchased custom clip-on sunglasses (it was cheaper than Transitions frames). My order took a little longer than usual because of the custom clip-on order, but that's reasonable. All in all, I got great glasses, custom clip-ons and great service for a reasonable price. They also threw in a free bottle of lens cleaner, a cleaning cloth and a little screwdriver on a keychain in case a screw should need adjusting. I'd definitely shop there again. read more

I did a little research on line and also visited two chain eyeglasses outlets, but until I visited Optical Thirty 8 Factory in Mississauga, I was not really impressed with service, selection or pricing. Reading a review, I decided to make a visit the showroom, without really expecting to buy my eyeglasses yet. The store is large, bright, clean and well organized. The selection is really good, (4000 frames!) even the shape of frames I am looking for, they do not really carry. But nobody does have those anyway. I arrived with my partner in the early afternoon. We were greeted at the door by store manager Kinnard Chan and another sales person. First we were offered tea and then shown various display of different price range. Kinnard took good care of me and with the critical eye of my better half, we selected 3 frames relatively quickly. As I did not have eye exam in about 5 years, I opted for one. The optometrist Dr. Eng, was free in about 20 minutes. By the time the frames were selected, coating decided and my partner found a pair of small reading glasses, perfect to keep in her purse ($8.00). The reading glasses came with a small case, screwdriver, cloth and cleaning liquid!! The examination was really thorough, the equipment is brand new and probably the latest. The Mississauga store opened only a month ago, so everything is still sparkling new. I have the feeling it will stay so. The staff is really friendly and very professional. They give you advise, if you ask for it and are never pushy. While I was having an eye exam, my partner had a pleasant chat with another salesman and not only drunk 2 cups of tea, but also got 3 tea bags to take home, just because she said, she likes the tea. The eyeglasses are such a good deal, that I decided to order 3 pairs (1 sunglasses tint) All in all it was one of the best shopping experiences I had in a long time. You really have the feeling, that they are doing the best for you. I find, that generally service in Toronto is rather on the decline, but Optical Thirty 8 is bucking this trend. Kinnard also fixed and adjusted my old glasses and got them cleaned. I do not have my glasses yet, they will be ready in a week. (the sunglasses take a bit longer.) I am sure, just picking them up will be a positive experience! read more

This place is the best. They have the friendliest, most helpful staff I've ever encountered at an eyewear store and the optical exam I got there was bang on. Everything was really fairly priced as well, and I was so torn between so many different pairs because they had a really extensive selection. I was so impressed that even years later, they're willing to help me out and tighten the glasses I bought there when they get a bit loose. The icing on the cake is I just emailed them asking for a prescription I lost that they gave me 3 years ago, and they still had it on file and emailed it to me. Ridiculous! read more
