07.08.24 The old Opera House Saloon is one of Kemmerer's oldest buildings. It was next to James Cash Penney's Golden Rule Store
    May A.

Mercantile and Bakery [Kemmerer WY] This local store and bakery is located across the street from the JC Penney historic home|museum. It is housed in the oldest building in Kemmerer (built in 1898). We walked in to see a variety of retail merchandise including housewares, kitchen items, throw pillows, and shirts. Further towards the back of the store are baked goods and homemade bread plus a menu that offered soup and a salad bar. I purchased a slice of the banana bread. It was super moist and delicious! Wish we had more time to spend in this cute little bakery because I heard that they serve a pretty mean buttermilk pies and chicken pot pie. Also, this was my first time seeing an interactive experience Olivelle oil and vinegar tasting before purchasing. I thought that was pretty cool! The interior has kept their original character. Glad we were able to check it out... friendly service too! Review #3485

It's an amazing place, great food, gifts to buy galore from locals. It even has places to stay. Their ice cream is spectacular.

We were seated at a table in far end of the room. Once seated it's hard to get in and out from the wall seat because the table are pretty close together. I ordered the Spinach, Mushroom and Swiss 4 Egg Omelet. They asked me if I wanted 2 or 4 eggs and I chose 4. As a substitute for the potatoes, I opted to choose the avocado which came as a slice 1/2 of avocado. For my toast option, I chose the single pancake, but could also have chosen a scone. The scone wasn't on the menu as a option, so I missed this when I ordered. My omelet was very flavorful, although a bit dense. I attributed that to the 4 eggs fitting into a 2 egg form factor, but I really don't know that for sure. The avocado was a good complement to the omelet and worked out very well. The pancake was delicious. There was syrup on the table and butter came on the plate. I gobbled it right down and thought that I maybe should have got another one. I have eaten here before when I was in the area, and will likely return again when up here. The busy nature of the restaurant is offset by the good quality food.

This location is one of only a few restaurants in the area. We were staying in Fort Bridger and…read moredrove over to have a sit-down meal. The building shares an entrance with the truck stop/fuel station/convenience store. This makes it a bit confusing as to where the restaurant is located, but we found it. We had seen on other yelp reviews that this wasn't the cleanest place, and that is certainly true. The day we visited, the dining room was filled with flies. They were so pesky, that it made it difficult to sit and wait for our food because they just wouldn't leave us alone. A fly strip or two may have helped quite a bit with this issue. We sat at a low table, but there was bar seating as well, which most of the locals chose to use. Our table was a wood surface coated with a clear varnish that was sticky to the touch and likely not very cleanable. The condiments were very dirty and gross. We chose not to use them with our food. There was only one waitress working and one cook, and there were 3 other people besides us dining in. The food still seemed extra slow coming out. It appeared that the cook only worked on one order at a time, so we watched as each patron was served until ours came out. I ordered the Malibu Chicken Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries. My sandwich didn't really have much flavor, but it tasted fine. My fries were not too greasy as can be the case with sweet potatoes. I was hungry and devoured my meal. My husband ordered the chili burger with tots. He said the chili was mediocre and the tots needed salt. I thought the tots had an old grease flavor that I did not care for. I don't think we'll be back again unless something changes.

We head into Evanston from Park City every couple of months and usually stop somewhere for dinner,…read morethis was our first visit to Bon Rico, and it completely exceeded expectations. This will absolutely be our go-to spot every time we're in town. It's located in the historic part of Evanston, tucked between a VFW and a Chinese restaurant. Don't let the modest exterior fool you, it's part of the charm and sets the stage for a truly unique experience. When you walk in, you're greeted by a small lobby filled with houseplants and a vintage sofa that looks straight out of the 1970s, and honestly, it's perfect. There's something authentic and unpretentious about it. You pass through to the host stand, where the owner (we assume) warmly welcomed us and showed us to our table. The dining room feels more like a classic supper club than a modern steakhouse, with cloth tablecloths and napkins and a spotless, well-kept space. It's comfortable, relaxed, and inviting. The menu is fairly extensive, with appetizers, pasta, and seafood, but let's be honest, the steak is the reason you come. They offer several cuts in different sizes, and they are ENORMOUS. I ordered the petit ribeye, which is 16 ounces, and that's the "petit." Larger cuts are available for those with serious appetites. All steaks come with a house salad and French onion soup, which were both OK. You also get your choice of side (fries, baked potato, or onion rings). I had the onion rings, they were all right but next time I'll go with the baked potato, which looked fantastic at nearby tables. The wine selection fits the place perfectly. You can order a glass or even a carafe of Black Box, or choose from a selection of bottles if you're in the mood for something elevated. It's unpretentious, practical, and well suited to the experience no pressure, no performance and no snobbiness. We just had some Black Box, which fit the vibe. Now, the steak: this is what you come here for. It was grilled to a perfect medium rare, tender and deeply flavorful. Other than salt and pepper, there didn't seem to be any heavy rub or seasoning, and that's exactly how it should be. There was nothing to disguise. The beef stood entirely on its own, and it was exceptional. I've had "fancier" steaks at upscale steakhouses, but I can honestly say I've never had a better cut of beef. This was pure, high-quality steak done right. Service was attentive, friendly, and perfectly timed. It was present when you needed it and never intrusive. We live in Park City, where we're surrounded by fine dining that often focuses on flourishes and style but sometimes misses the mark on the food itself. Bon Rico is the opposite. No gimmicks. No theatrics. Just an outstanding piece of beef, served generously and done exactly right. Bon Rico isn't just dinner it's an experience. If you're driving down I-80, make the stop. You'll be glad you did and will probably agree that this is the best steak in Wyoming!

I wasn't expecting much as far as food went. However, this place was great surprise. Service was very nice and friendly. My Birria quesadilla was the best quesadilla I ever had. Now, I hardly ever order quesadillas but I love birria so I decided to give it a shot. The consume was very tasty and the meat within the quesadilla was flavorful, juicy and tender. Some aspects of my visit were great however, for a small place like Evanston, WY, I will give it a slight pass. The sweet tea and water situation was horrible. I know somewhere like Wyoming may not have the greatest sweet tea, I know I was far removed from the South. However, I believe it was a combo of the water, tea/water ratio and whatever was used as a sweetener. The salsa was very fresh but some of the chunks of veggies were a little too big for salsa in my opinion.

(review from two separate times)…read more The second time of us driving up from Ogden, Utah for something to eat here. The service does kinda take a while for them to noice you're waiting at the door. Which is understandable when low staff working. No biggie. Otherwise, the food is pretty decent and I would definitely recommend stopping here if you're coming to Evanston for some vape juice or fireworks haha. Once you're sat down, you're welcomed with chips, flavorful chunky salsa and a bean dip. We ordered the Carne adobada (marinated asada) both times Two pics are from this time and two are from last time for reference. The meat is flavorful and tender. Moist fluffy rice. The beans... are well, beans lol... We also ordered the guacamole for an appetizer, unfortunately was very disappointed in that. Not in the guac itself, it tasted great. But the price $10 freaking dollars is absurd, for what half an avocado? (What you see in the picture is what we got. It was shaped in a ball like small ice cream scoop before I smashed it around but it was an extremely small amount) like I get inflation,.... but that much for so little. Also the knives are dull a fk. Lol I will come here over and over again but won't be getting the guac appetizer again. Our waitress Brittany is so kind and sweet and top of the refills (we all know I'm a Karen about my refills ) she did great both times. Thanks.
