This location is one of only a few restaurants in the area. We were staying in Fort Bridger and drove over to have a sit-down meal. The building shares an entrance with the truck stop/fuel station/convenience store. This makes it a bit confusing as to where the restaurant is located, but we found it. We had seen on other yelp reviews that this wasn't the cleanest place, and that is certainly true. The day we visited, the dining room was filled with flies. They were so pesky, that it made it difficult to sit and wait for our food because they just wouldn't leave us alone. A fly strip or two may have helped quite a bit with this issue. We sat at a low table, but there was bar seating as well, which most of the locals chose to use. Our table was a wood surface coated with a clear varnish that was sticky to the touch and likely not very cleanable. The condiments were very dirty and gross. We chose not to use them with our food. There was only one waitress working and one cook, and there were 3 other people besides us dining in. The food still seemed extra slow coming out. It appeared that the cook only worked on one order at a time, so we watched as each patron was served until ours came out. I ordered the Malibu Chicken Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries. My sandwich didn't really have much flavor, but it tasted fine. My fries were not too greasy as can be the case with sweet potatoes. I was hungry and devoured my meal. My husband ordered the chili burger with tots. He said the chili was mediocre and the tots needed salt. I thought the tots had an old grease flavor that I did not care for. After reading the great reviews ww decided to hit this place before we hit the road. We were greeted promptly and told to sit where we liked. Got coffee and water right away. We placed our order ( eggs and ham and a burrito), after an easy 20 minute wait and several cups of coffee our order arrived. Lukewarm would describe it perfectly. Then when we are ready to leave no waitress can be found, finally I asked the other server and she ignored me. I finally went up and stood by the register. Stopped coming from Oklahoma headed to Idaho we were hungry saw this huge cafe sign and stopped. Greeted right away from a friendly girl. We wanted coffee they had decaf and flavored creamer which we love I ordered light off the al a carte sausage bacon and eggs, very good. I've eaten here almost at least once a year since 1997 on my annual coast-to-coast drive on I-80. They're the only place around for miles in the actual middle of nowhere; however, they happen to be good, they have a nice menu, and they're cheap. We stopped after visiting local RV park in Fort Bragger. Looks like a hole- in- the- wall, but don't let that fool you. Once inside it's clean, homey, and friendly. Service was excellent. Nasty food, we stopped and hoped that the locals were right when they said it was "world famous from coast to coast". It might be famous for lousy food and poor attitudes. No greeting when you walk in. You have to seat yourself and flag someone down. If you're not a regular they don't give a crap about you. Ordered a French dip and BLT. The french dip was disgusting, the bread crumbles and the meat taste like boiled meat with no seasoning. I literally spit the food out and ate nothing. The response to the dislike wasn't " can we get you something else, we'll take that off the hill for you" nothing but a loud and pathetic excuse of a "soorrry" long a drug out. OK, you would TOTALLY not notice this café if you were driving along, but we met a friend here who lives in Ft Bridger and she swore it was good. Husband had the open faced hamburger steak sandwich which was covered in gravy, and he demolished all of it. He ate some of his beer battered fries, which I tasted and they were good. I ordered a pork chop with beer battered fries and ended up with tater tots. Oops. Not the end of the world - fried potatoes are fried potatoes. It came with sliced carrots which were good.. However, the pork chop was fried and not grilled, which I really didn't like. It was tough to cut and was dry. Of course, it was a thick, 10 oz chop, and I guess I've never had one that big nor fried. I did take it as a leftover because I think it can be resurrected. I actually enjoyed the crunchy outside texture. What I enjoyed the most, though, and gobbled it up, was the creamy tomato soup of the day, which was really a bisque and had great seasonings and bits of tomato. DON'T pass on this! Don't go hungry..!! I know there ain't much anywhere around here, but don't wait to eat until you get to the next big town. We were passing through and gave it a try. You won't be disappointed if you stop in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They have a large enough menu to satisfy anybody's preference... and, they serve breakfast all day. I had biscuit and gravy breakfast for a late lunch. I've now got enough food in me to last me through a three-day cattle drive (I did also get the cinnamon roll for dessert). While the food is good... it is also very affordable. Sometimes we try to watch the $$$ while traveling and Cowboy Cafe helps with that too. P.S. This place is a dump. Do not stop here! I walked in for breakfast on a weekday morning. The place was buzzing. The seats were falling apart. The smell was awful. The staff was overwhelmed. I ordered a simple breakfast...eggs and a cup of soup. An hour passes. No food to given to me. I wait more. An hour and 15 minutes. That's it! I leave.
