OK I am going to start off with my biggest complaint about this place and that is that their parking lot is a sh*tshow. Its tiny, hard to get in and out of, awkwardly slanted, and frequently packed with customers from neighboring businesses as well as delivery people on pickup. Its for this reason and this reason only I no longer go here for take-out, I recommend Asiana down the street. There are 2-3 tables but I would never eat here - the one night we wanted to their heat was broken. All of which is too bad because their prices and food are decent - you just get the full package at Asiana down the street with ample parking, a wonderful dining room, and better food. read more

My husband and I built a poke bowl and there was a separate paper menu where you could circle your options which makes ordering so much easier. There was a ton of fish (I ordered tuna and salmon) and the portioning of the other ingredients was just right. I didn't feel like the dressing was too much. I felt like they were generous in allowing the number of choices within each category. So you can really create a poke bowl with a variety of different things in it. I'm really surprised by the three star rating! I visited Open Rice this afternoon to pick up a sushi burrito, poke bowl, hibachi rice, and hibachi noodles. When I arrived, I was greeted but got a confused look when I said I was there to pick up my order. After waiting for about 10-15 minutes, I asked when my order would be ready. I made the mistake of clicking 5:45pm on Grubhub instead of 4:45pm! However, the employees didn't tell me this and started making my order when I arrived. They definitely could have said that my order was set for another hour but they were very accommodating despite my mistake. The food was really good and fresh! I put 5 stars simply because customer service was amazing. As for the food, I recommend the create your own sushi burrito and the hibachi noodles! We stopped by on our road trip and I was pleasantly surprised to find this cozy pan-Asian restaurant. I was happy with the selection of options for the poke bowls especially since toppings like avocado and tamago usually have added charges at other poke places I've been to. The only thing I regret is choosing eel sauce because I feel like it was quite salty for the amount they put in my poke bowl. My husband thought the chicken teriyaki bento box was fairly standard but the chicken was surprisingly tender. The food came out quickly which was a plus. This is our favorite Chinese take-out place in Stamford. They have hands down best lo- mein. My family loves their general tso chicken. Their sushi is fresh and just melts in your mouth. My favorite dragon roll is delish! We keep getting our favorites, yet to try their hibachi selection and poke bowl. Their drunken noodle and few wok selections we tried was just ok. Service is fast and courteous. Restaurant is small with few seatings - maybe 5-6 tables. They mostly do take out so you can always find a table if you need to eat there. I've been here multiple times and my favorite thing about it is their lunch specials! It is pretty inexpensive, and I've never had a bad meal from them. My go-to is usually the sushi which satisfies my cravings and is typically good quality. Their hot, cooked food is good too, although some dishes could use a little more flavor. As for the service it is usually a hit or miss, I usually call in and pick up my order and the woman at the cash register sometimes motions to me rudely and it gets confusing. Although they do have a parking lot, it's in a very busy intersection so sometimes it is difficult to get out but it's manageable. I had the General Tso's Chicken and the Chicken With Black Bean Sauce. The fried rice was a little underflavored(combination options). This is my "go to" restaurant for Asian when I'm in Stamford. I particularly like their spring rolls. They're the first thing on the order. I've tried the General Tso's chicken, Pad Thai, Mai Fun, and most recently, the Yaki Udon. Love them all. There is one thing about which I'm disappointed: No homemade hot mustard. I loathe those little pre-made packets of yellow schlock. I must be spoiled because, at other restaurants in my local area when I ask for it, they reach under the counter and pull out a to-go cup. If you are looking for good quality food this place is def on the upper end. If you are looking for good costumer service in the restaurant or fast delivery this is definitely not the place for you. I went with my family (wife, 2 kids) for dinner around 6:30pm and when we sat down nobody else was there. Multiple people came in after to either pick up call in orders or to order at the counter and all of them were helped before us, including a man who came in after us sat down and ordered his food and received it. After sitting there for 20 minutes and still nobody came to take our order we just got up and left and they didn't even seem to care. Looks like that's the last time they will be getting my business. Open Rice deserve an absolutely 6 star rating. Their food are always fresh and great quality. It's the only place I can trust ordering and eating from. The staff are very nice. Plus, Delivery is usually fast and my food is delivered hot when ordering out. Furthermore, The restaurant is clean and quiet. It's great when you can hear your family and/or your significant other. I've very excited about the fact that Open Rice has opened on High Ridge, even though I was initially a bit wary. The extensive pan-Asian menu and the slightly clunky name made me think this was going to be just another mediocre Japanese-Chinese take out spot. It was great to be proven wrong--if the food is as good as it was once again, this might replace Panda Garden down the road as our go-to place for Chinese take-out. I'm no expert when it comes to Chinese fare, but I certainly enjoyed my meal! The menu at Open Rice is mostly Chinese and Japanese, with a few dishes from other Asian cuisines thrown it. It's a bit of a hodgepodge (and one of the main reasons for my initial skepticism), but the Chinese dishes that we tried were all quite good, and the sushi decent (better than Kiku, not as good as Kotobuki). For an appetizer, the hot and sour soup was pretty tasty: the soup had a nice vinegar kick to it and a well-balanced sweet-sour flavor. I also very much enjoyed the Szechuan dumplings. The texture of the exterior was lovely: delicate rather than tough and thick (they reminded my dad of good dumplings he'd had during his college days in Boston). While it seemed a bit unorthodox to me (I might be wrong), I also loved the peanut sauce on them. The spring rolls were also quite good, and not too greasy. I'm not crazy about eggplant, but the Chinese eggplant dish was a big hit with the rest of my family (apologies for not being more specific... the names of the dishes escape me). I did, however, enjoy a stir-fried duck dish. The flavors were well-balanced and the texture of the duck fabulous, though it would have been nice to have had some more duck in the portion. The shrimp lo mein was tasty as well, if somewhat less remarkable (pro tip: if you seem to be missing the protein from the lo mein, check the bottom of the take-out container). From the Japanese side of the menu, the seaweed salad was a nicely done, typical rendition, while the dragon roll was solidly good and the spicy tuna roll a touch heavy on the amount of tuna, but tasty. In sum, based on my experience at least, Open Rice is definitely worth a try! read more

Mediocre at best! I was in the mood for Chinese late last night and this place was on my way home so I decided to give it a try. Got the wonton soup which had absolutely no flavor and the wontons were almost inedible. Next was the sesame chicken, it looked very good and I was happy to see it was all white meat but the sauce was very sweet, I thought I ordered the wrong dish. I also ordered the pork fried rice, also very sweet, greasy, tasted weird and poorly made...not what you'd expect fried rice to be.
