The good - spacious interior, friendly service. Especially if you go with a local there is some friendly conversation a family owned touch. Food was so-so and I think it's because of what I ordered that left me underwhelmed. It was a party of four. One ordered a speciality roll a salad and the spare rub appetizer. The salad is a green salad with ginger dressing. Standard fine. I tried one of the ribs it was fine meaty a little bland compared to others I've had. My appetizer was the yellowtail with jalapeño. - I didn't care for it. My entree was the whole crispy fish. I was looking forward to it my friend said her husband had it and loved. It came out and I was disappointed. I don't recall it saying on the menu that a sauce covered it. I wouldn't have ordered it or requested it on the side. It was a thick sweet sauce so parts of the skin took on a shellac texture. The inside flesh itself was bland so the dipping in the sauce helped but again underwhelming. This was always our goto Chinese restaurant when we lived in CT. Sad to say we will not be back. Our latest experience was very disappointing. Our server had an attitude and seemed like he wanted to be elsewhere. We started with the steamed dumplings. In the past, they were wonderful. Now, they are very doughy and there is a ground meatball sized filling that is very bland. We had the pineapple fried rice. It was plentiful but not flavorful. The shrimp in the shrimp with sweet peas were good, but they were pea pods and not sweet peas. My husband was extremely disappointed because he loves sweet peas and won't eat pea pods. The wine (Cabernet) was awful. It smelled like a bad glass of manischewitz Concord grape. How can this restaurant gone so downhill in a couple of years? read more

We went for an early dinner on Christmas and had a poor experience. The food quality was mediocre at best. The waitress was ready to take our order as soon as we sat down, then again 2 minutes later. I told her we needed to look at the menu, we were just talking. And I reminded her that we weren't in a rush. Then after our order, it took forever to get food and it wasn't brought out together. So this was my first time having takeout from this restaurant. Last week I ordered the lumch special. Might I say for $10 the portion did not disappoint at all! It was ALOT, so you will get your money's worth. The one complaint I had was that there was no sauce on the boneless ribs. It was VERY dry! If that was my one request for this resteraunt, it would be to please put more sauce on the ribs. I was soooooo upset because it made the ribs unjoyable. Gave this place a chance even the reviews weren't that good and I made the right decision! Very rare to find a Chinese restaurant that serves authentic cuisine. The restaurant was not busy but they had a lot of take out orders. I had their salt and pepper pork- very good, crispy and juicy and huge portion. I also had the hollow cress - you need to go to white plains, queens or NYC to have this dish.. and so happy they make it here.. it was light and just delicious, not too much garlic and again portion was huge. It was just reminiscent in eating at HopKee in Chinatown NYC. I can't believe I didn't find them sooner. I'll be back for more authentic cuisine. Very tasty soup dumplings (juicy dumplings) but a little soft/ soggy so the wrapper ripped easily even when I tried to use my fingers instead of a spoon or chopsticks. Love the Szechuan sesame chili sauce with the Szechuan dumplings, would love for them to use this for some Dan Dan noodles :) Tried the Shanghai style sautéed udon out of curiosity, it's good but kind of like lo mein with udon. Which is fine, but probably nothing so exciting I would get it again. I asked for some chili or spice and they gave me two small containers which was very appreciated ! Very tasty. I used to go to Pearl East, and I stopped because the previous owners were sometimes good sometimes bad, the food that is. Today is the first time I've been there with new management. I ordered three dishes starting with the chicken noodle soup five stars not salty, tasty. I asked for bean sprouts and chicken, with garlic sauce which was not on the menu. I was satisfied. With taste, price was a little high. I'd rate this a four on a five scale, again not salty. Very tasty. Finally, I ordered shrimp and broccoli excellent taste 4.5 on a five scale. No changes in atmosphere I would say pleasant and big. There were 3 to 4 people ahead of me waiting for takeout. I only waited 20 minutes. The wait time was acceptable. I spent all my time reading the menu which is very complex. The date is December 10 and I think I would rate this a go to for your Chinese food. keep in mind a couple of things this is new management or new owners. There was only one woman working upfront I get it they're trying to save a little money and not hire somebody until they get on their feet being an old-time retailer, I understand. And for those of you that don't understand why there's only one person working upfront how about the best Greek restaurant in Stamford Hope Street Pizza? They have no help so they closed the inside part of their business. Temporarily they only do takeout and they are a landmark restaurant. tl;dr: Below average flavor, not authentic despite looking like it, small portions and pricey. Disappointing food and service. Was excited for this authentic looking Chinese restaurant so decided to order delivery. I called and asked the difference between the "double cooked pork" between normal and chinese menu (it was like $1 difference) and the lady on the phone said "it's the same thing", and after putting me on hold for two minutes said "the pork is different" but couldn't tell me how. Despite this interaction I decided to take a chance and ordered anyway. We got the double cooked pork and buddhist delight - two different dishes. And yet, the taste was identical. Buddhist delight was almost all broccoli. The double cooked pork had small pieces of thin tofu in it. For the price I had expected better taste and/or better portions, but with this taste I think I will stick to the other place down the road for american chinese take out and venture farther away from Stamford for real chinese food... EVIDENCE OF RODENTS!! I have previously ordered from Pearl East via seamless and the food was decent with fast delivery. Today after diving into my boneless spare ribs, I reached for some soy sauce. When I did so, I realized the packet holding the sauces, utensils and fortune cookie was ripped. Upon closer inspection it was clear they were small bite marks from rodents and half of the fortune cookie was eaten. I was disgusted to say the least since I was using the fork from the packet to eat with. I immediately called the restaurant and they didn't say much other then they would look into it. When I made mention that I was would calling the health department next (which I did), they started to freak out and asked me not to. This was an obvious sign they knew about a rodent infestation and didn't want the inspectors to come and find it. read more

Looking for old fashion Cantonese food? This is your place. I used to live in Flushing Queens so I know the best Cantonese food. Stamford is certainly lacking good Chinese food. I went there last night and had their wonton soup which is so flavorful and wontons were homemade and very thin dough the broth is delicious. Then we had barbecue shrimp with vegetables the shrimp are huge tender And so flavorful. We also had the chicken with three nuts. The sauce was excellent and vegetables superb the whole dish was delicious. The prices are very fair and and the portions of very big the service is great. read more

I work in Stamford and have drove by this place daily for almost 5 years. Finally decided to try some take out for dinner and I'm glad I did! Firstly, The people who work there are so nice and welcoming. The service was very fast which I appreciated. I ordered a Boston roll which was super delicious, a little too much cucumber in it for me but I just picked a few pieces out and it was perfect. I also got a hot and sour soup, Szechuan dumplings and chicken lo mein. The price is great for the portions you get, I was shocked at the amount of food there was when I took it out of the bag when I got home. Everything was so good and fresh. You will need to navigate through the menu that caters mostly to non-asians. You can find the standard american Chinese picture menu items along with Chinese American with a splash of Japanese sushi. However, should you desire authentic Cantonese style vegetables , they offer hollowcress or snow pea shoots stir fried with garlic and oil...this is one of the only restaurants in the area. I have lived in Stamford for 6 months. Whenever I move into a new area (my work has had me move 9 times in 20 years), my first thing that I do is find a great Asian place. I have very high standards in this area since I have been to various countries in Asia more than 50 times in the last 25 years. Pearl East has a very extensive menu, both Gringo Chinese and authentic Chinese food. Their Asian big bowl noodle soups are to die for and are loaded with meats, vegetables, and noodles. The Sushi bar is simply amazing. Fresh and delicious. Not funky at all like some sushi places in the area. I have tried 10 different Chinese/ Asian places in the STAMFORD area. None come even close. For the people who have this place low ratings, I am sure they think that General Zhou's Chicken is actually an authentic Chinese meal. Angela & Peggy are awesome servers. My fiancé and I eat here at least three times a week. She is half Korean and also has been to Asia many times with a palette as discerning as mine with regards to Asian cuisine. Things to try: Egg Rolls. Yes it's Gringo Chinese, but they rock! Anything from the sushi bar, but the Red Dragon roll is incredible. Beef Noodle Soup. If you like hearty soup...just trust me on this. Steamed dumplings. Shrimp or pork. The shrimp is like a Hong Kong style dim sum shumai dumpling. Lastly, the meals are very affordable. Edit: I just reviewed the photos of the place and I saw a picture of a "maggot" according to the poster. Pearl East is on point! It's easy to find options that are GF or Low Carb compliant and still awesome. The healthy steamed chicken with veggie is always so unbelievably tender and they serve it with this flavorful light sauce with scallions. mmm! The beef on a stick was off-the-charts-delicious. 3/19: Ivy pointed out some new appetizers on the menu tonight. The Juicy Dumplings (with broth, pork and shrimp) are amazing!!! A must try! As always, Pearl East doesn't disappoint. I think we come here at least once a week. Sometimes more. Tonight we deviated from the usual beef noodle soup and ordered steamed dumplings (the best around and even compared to Chicago), egg rolls and sushi. Good thing we skipped the beef noodle soup cause we stuffed ourselves with the wonderful sushi. So there were repeating themes of spicy tuna and shrimp tempura in our rolls. Their prices are lower than most other sushi places in the area and their quality is the same, if not better! They have a dine-in section of the restaurant, which is usually busy as well.
