We had a really bad experience here today. Super long wait for food. One person's item came out almost 10 minutes before our other's, the order was wrong (I got fried eggs instead of scrambled in the breakfast bowl) and overall it took almost an hour for a 2 person order. I hope they improve because the food was pretty tasty once we got it. read more

I visited Open Kitchen last night for monthly book club. They have a parking lot adjacent to the building. They have wait staff to welcome you in and sit at tables or bar. It is a clean well lit space with plenty of seating. They have QR codes to scan for menus. I ordered the Avocado burger with a side of fries and a sweet tea to drink. The food was delicious and well portioned. I also splurged by getting their bread pudding which was so yummy and again very filling. We waited an hour and 15 minutes from the time we placed our order to finally getting our food. It seemed like the other customers were getting frustrated with the wait as well. Went for the first time today and can confidently say I won't be back. Unfortunately my dining experience was not like many others who have reviewed before me. My friends and I waited a little under an hour (about 50 minutes) for our food. Two tables around us, who ordered after us, both received their food before we did. Not to mention, one of those tables also had completed their meal, paid, and left before our food even came out! The food was mediocre. My broccoli was lukewarm and undercooked. My cranberry margarita did not have a hint of a taste of cranberry, only a slight red tint to the drink and was all tequila (which would be great if I was going for a buzz & not just a casual drink with dinner). The only redeeming quality was the mashed potatoes, which were heavenly. That being said, I would not return based simply on this factor. read more

So it took a very long time to get our food, that said, it was incredible. I'm very particular about food, and this was up there with some of the absolute best I've had. If you are in a hurry, this isn't for you, come back when you have time. Homemade food takes time, it was all obviously fresh, made to order food. The flavor combinations were on point. You judge a book by its cover. I was in downtown Indianapolis for business and had a free night so I looked online to check out some live music. I found a free concert at the Christel de Haan theater on the University of Indianapolis. I searched yelp for nearby restaurants and came upon this place. It had good reviews so I gave it a try. When I approached the place I must admit I was dubious. I entered and was greeted by friendly staff and varied menu. It was early and there were only a few guys at the bar waiting on their takeout order. Again I was questioning my choice of restaurants. The interior of the place was pretty basic. Looked like a bar with a small kitchen. Anyway I ordered a beer (decent draft selection) and the recommended smothered chicken on whipped potatoes with a side if brussel sprouts. To warm up my pallette out came a homemade biscuit so perfect it brought back memories of your mamma, if your mamma made the best biscuits you ever had! Next came the smothered chicken. The first was a bit heavy on black pepper, but the more I ate the better it tasted. Did I get a hint of curry in the sauce? The fork tender chicken breast lightly breaded and fried, was served on whipped potatoes. As good as the smothered chicken was, roasted brussel sprouts in a light apple honey glaze were unbelievable. Food looks great in the images. This unfortunately was not our experience. They seemed like they were running out of a lot of food. We ordered the chicken bowl. It was good but the sauce mixed with the potatoes and made it essentially a soup and the serving was quite small for the price. They certainly know how to fry chicken well but the dish just didn't work in our opinion. We also ordered 2 Cheeseburgers which came out ten minutes after the chicken bowl. Wife had asked for pickles and they told us they were out. They came with about ten French fries each and the burger while tasty was very much well done. We ordered them medium rare. The ingredients all seemed high quality. About ten minutes after that our son's Mac and cheese came out. It was extremely bland and watery but also scolding hot. We needed to wait ten minutes before he could eat. The timing on the meal was completely off and the restaurant was not even busy. I do not think this place could handle large groups. Our waitress was nice but a bit spaced and we had to request things multiple times. I was very excited based on the other reviews and they certainly have good parts but it's unlikely I'll come back here. Especially if we want to eat together. read more

This is an absolute gem of a restaurant. My fiancé,10 month old son and I walked here from our home for dinner on a Thursday evening and we could not have been more blown away by what we experienced. The Mr. got the filet (rare) with whipped mashed potatoes and kale. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavors were on point. He doesn't even like kale and he ate all of it except for the bite he gave to me. The filet had a sort of demiglaze or reduction over the top which was excellent and complimentary without being overpowering. I got the sundried tomato pasta, it came with thick-cut, grilled bread and grilled shrimp. It was rich and fragrant and seasoned perfectly, creamy and slightly acidic from the tomatoes. I almost got the filet but I'm SO glad I tried this. We got the kid's mac and cheese with a veggie medley side for our babe. Let me tell you- this was some of the best mac and cheese we've ever had. Like too good for just the kid's menu. They had accidentally made too much so we got an extra side for free and goll dang we were so happy. The veggies were broccoli and cauliflower, grilled and seasoned and made with care. Also unexpectedly incredible. **Bonus points** Our babe's food was brought out first- we didn't request it but they just knew. It really makes things easier with a baby when he is occupied and we have time to get him settled without our food getting cold. They were totally hospitable and amazingly accommodating. DAMN!!! Finally got to stop In and try this place for breakfast.... EXCELLENT! We ordered the Biscuits and gravy, breakfast BLT, and steak tacos. Fresh and soft biscuits , wonderful sausage gravy that is better than any other restaurant around and 3 eggs cooked perfectly. The BLT with candied AND peppered bacon was a delicious surprise! I would give the food 10 stars if I could, but the atmosphere is a whole other story. Y'all, our food was so so good! My wife said it was the best French toast she's ever had from a restaurant! We went for the late night breakfast menu, and everything was very fresh, hot, and delicious. Went for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The food was amazing!!!! Comfortable atmosphere. Friendly staff. Delicious food. I had the breakfast platter which was delicious and well seasoned. The potatoes were absolutely delicious! My boyfriend had the stuffed French toast, which looked like something from the cover of a cooking magazine, and was as delicious to eat as it was pretty to look at. 10/5 stars.
