Goat Stew

This place is absolutely amazing. I used to eat at the Anacostia location, and I'm really happy to see this H Street location open up. Food: Ordered Goat Stew and Chicken Suya * Both were seasoned very well and tasted delicious. Service + Ambiance: I don't care about that stuff. The FOOD is amazing. 6 STARS

Located just off H St on the corner of where Chupacabra used to be, Open Crumb is a little bit of a hole in the wall. I ordered the Suya Chicken over Rice priced at $15. It included spicy grilled chicken, rice, a veggie mix of onions, tomato, corn and parsley, and yogurt, which eases the spice level of the chicken. The chicken was tender, although I wish the spice level was slightly toned down and overall it felt like a hearty meal and an appropriate amount of food for the price. I also got the blueberry lemonade, which was fine, but not a must-get for $6.

Food was delicious! The portions were nice and the price very reasonable. What stood out was the packaging. The containers were different from normal takeout containers. They were perfect size and didn't leak. The fufu wasn't wrapped in plastic. It was in a container, which was helpful for storing the leftover fufu. I would definitely purchase from them again!

Trying something new . I came across this place on my way to the Airbnb. I had no clue what to order. The two guys working there I told them to surprise me. They asked if there was a medical issues. Which I thought was nice. What they gave me was so good. A lot of rice which I could not finch. The inside is kinda bare. But, the food and service make up for it.

I was looking for some good food and decided to try this place out. First I like to add the staff were so friendly. It was two brothers working one taking orders the other preparing the food. Because this was my first time I had a lot of questions and the two were very helpful in answering questions and offering suggestions based off what I asked. I ordered fried whiting fish with jollaf rice cooked in a tomato based sauce and a salad. I also ordered red beans and rice, fried chicken with white rice and salad and a side of macaroni and cheese. I love the jollof rice and the African stew sauce you get to put on your fish or chicken. I also received another type of sauce with spices. The sauces were good I wasn't sure what went on what so I just added it to all my food. The place look like a small Carryout not really a restaurant dine in but definitely restaurant quality food. I will return to try more items. I saw them preparing stew spinach with the jollof rice it looks absolutely delicious I must try next time along with the crab cake sandwich. My overall experience is a 4 the food is prepared from scratch and it's made to order. The kitchen was very clean, neat and organized.

Stopped here for lunch and the food was great. The service was excellent! After making some recommendations the food was seasoned to perfection. Highly recommend the stew chicken and jollof rice! Very bright and clean eating area.

First time trying Open Crumb. I got the chargrilled chicken with rice, salad and brussels sprouts. Not bad for the price. Pretty tasty. The actual store is dark and not much to write home about, but the food was good. Didn't take too long to get my pick-up order.

Chicken Sandwich

One of the top three chicken sandwiches I've had. Great crunchy chicken with all the moistness trapped inside with the spices. Everything on it complimented the chicken, including a nice brioche bun. The rice is great too. The plantains are awesome as well.

More like 4.5/5 stars! Local, black owned place. This is one of my favorite Anacostia eateries; good ass, heavy ass food that's perfect before a workout. I love Ghanaian food so when I stumbled upon this spot I was so excited. They have really good Jollof, chicken stew, and spinach stew. My favorite thing from here though is the vegan peanut stew, MAN! It's so flavorful and hearty. I will say I prefer doing delivery because I'm not a fan of the inside of this place; it gives old carry out, but it's no denying the food is wonderful. Highly recommend this neighborhood gem.

This place is DELICIOUS!!!! Everything is made to order so you have a to wait a bit...but it is well worth the wait! I had chicken sandwich, spinach stew, jollof and bread pudding. Go eat there now...you won't regret it.

It's been years since I last visited but I only remembered God things and that made my mouth water even more. I immediately knew what I wanted. Fried wings, mac & cheese, and rice and gravy. My dad and sister ordered greens, and I already knew I would be getting a taste of those too. Now... here is where things shifted a bit. All of the meat was dry. Like it had been sitting for hours, dry. And not just my plate--errybody's. LOLOL I had wings, my father had whiting, and my sister had baked chicken, and somehow all of it came out dry and I ain't even joking. Even the cornbread was dry and I love some cornbread. After walking in (take-out only), and seeing that there were six people waiting for their food, I was convinced, this place CAN be trusted. So, staff, really nice. Informative, hospitable, and accommodating. As indicated, exclusively "Take-out," so not much attention given to aesthetics. All those waiting raved about the food. People there have been patronizing the restaurant for decades. Again, very good sign. Ordered chitterlings, potato salad, and collard greens. Initially thought $30.00 was a bit much, given I'd NEVER eaten chitterlings "out," BUT, thought about what it actually requires, and quickly changed my mind. The price point is fine. Everything was delicious. Everything. Including the Cornbread. Given I know how to cook, there were obviously some things I would have done differently. That doesn't even matter, this place is my "Soul Food" "go-to." If they can do chitterlings well, they can do anything. I can't wait to try everything else on the menu. I highly recommend.

They give free samples for NEARLY ALL of their food, I mentioned I traveled to DC from CA, and the workers gave me a sample of one of everything on the menu! Gosh, I have never experienced such AMAZING customer service! My boyfriend loved the etouffee and my favorite was the gumbo sample. We were so stuffed from our previous dinner, and couldn't order more. We noticed everything on the menu was VERY affordable for DC pricing and gave good portions. We ended up opting for the bread pudding, and finished it in minutes. The bread pudding feels like a warm hug, and is a MUST with the ice cream. It has hints of nutmeg, cinnamon, and the bourbon perfectly balanced the creaminess and sweetness of the ice cream.

Visited Kitchen + Kocktails By Kevin Kelley in DC, and I'm already planning my return. This spot perfectly nails upscale casual dining - relaxed yet polished, with attention to detail everywhere. From the moment we walked in, the hosts greeted us with warm smiles and were incredibly polite and welcoming - such a great first impression. Our waitress, Jasmine, was absolutely unbelievable. She was on top of everything, attentive without being intrusive, and her professionalism truly stood out. It's rare to get service that flawless. Now the food - just wow. I ordered the Mississippi catfish and grits with a side of greens (I didn't realize the greens had turkey in them, but it was a delicious surprise!). My wife had the seafood platter and loved every bite. The drinks were a showstopper too. The Old Fashioned was beautifully presented, but the Lemon Drop's presentation was mind-blowing. Hands down, Kitchen + Kocktails is one of my top picks whenever I'm visiting DC. Highly recommend.

However the food menu is very limited in my opinion but I guess It keeps the food cost low. The menu consists of: Catfish Salmon Chicken Crabs And sides... I even thought the side options were limited. If you are vegan, this really isn't the spot for you. I had the "Catfish & Grits" ($35) and my friend had the "Stuffed Salmon w/ Dirty Rice" ($39). The catfish was a little too salty for my liking and my friend stated that she didn't care for the taste of the salmon. On the bright side, service was great! Our server "Amber" did an excellent job! She was patient and gave great suggestions.
