I've been to Opa's Grill twice since it opened in the old Athens spot, and I am happy that the shady patio is still an option for Greek eats near the University. I've been once for lunch and once for dinner, and each was a good experience. For my lunch visit, I had the Falafel Burger. While I liked the flavors layered on the falafel patty, the patty itself was very large and pretty dry. I ended up getting extra tzatziki, breaking the patty into smaller pieces, and coating each one in the dip to give it some moisture and added flavor oomph. The fries that came with the burger were absolutely top-tier, though! They were very well-seasoned and piping hot when they came out. At the dinner visit, my friend and I shared a bunch of appetizers, including the Saganaki, Calamari, Dolmades, Baba Ganoush, and Hummus. All were good, but my favorites were the Saganaki and the Dolmades. By comparison, the hummus is fine, but only fine. We were given plenty of pita to go with our various dishes, and it was more food than the two of us could finish. Overall the ambiance is simple and gives you that Greece feel obviously. It's a small place but worth the food 100% I think the price is a little high but that's my wallet not yours. We went into this restaurant really wanting to love it. We went to the restaurant that was previously in this location, Athens on 4th, for decades, and we miss it terribly! This is no Athens. Greek food, pleasant surroundings, decent wine list, all that is here. What is missing is the warmth, the attention to detail, the polished service. I can live without white tablecloths, and cloth napkins but for a server to not know that you don't bring entrees out two minutes after you bring the appetizers? Have they never eaten in restaurants? Would they like that kind of timing? The can do better and they should do better. What about the lovely patio, especially now with the pleasant evening temperature? It looks like a junkyard with all manner of junk stacked everywhere. Come on! Clean that up! The food itself is tasty and nicely prepared. The complimentary pita and tzaziki and hummus is a nice touch. It would be even better if the tzaziki and hummus tasted like actual tzaziki and hummus, but I don't want to be too picky about that. I'm just glad I didn't order it and pay for it. The Greek potatoes taste boiled. Not lemony or garlicky or flavorful in any way. The gyro is good as is the roasted lamb and the Greek salad. The prices are good. The bottom line is, if you miss Athens like we miss Athens, it's an option that works. It will get that craving for Greek food satisfied. I got a falafel wrap with fries to go and it was ready really fast. The workers were really nice as well. The food portions are generous and the falafels are huge. The fries are really good and I liked the wrap, however I would've liked more hummus inside of it. It was a few bucks more than stated on the menu but for how much food they give it was worth the $13. There's a small parking lot on the side as well which is nice since fourth ave gets busy. The service and food here are quite good - but it's not a place for vegetarians. At our meal today there was a vegetarian moussaka and a regular one. Despite the description, the vegetarian version had no zucchini - and barely any eggplant. There were mainly slices of undercooked potato and a raw floury béchamel. Ugh. Opa's Grill is a nice spot, not too far from the University of Arizona. It's clean and comfortable, recently renovated, with a nice courtyard for outdoor dining. The staff is friendly and efficient. And my food was ready only a few minutes after ordering. The tazatziki is fantastic. With house-made yogurt, fresh dill, cucumber and garlic, it was probably my favorite part of the meal. The hummus is nicely flavored but texture is grittier than I like. Perhaps the chickpea needed to soak a little longer. The Greek salad with gyro meet for $12 is a good deal given the large portion size. But it lacked feta, which lends to a lack of saltiness in the salad overall. But I asked for more tazatziki to add on top, so problem solved. The Gyro meat is nicely seasoned, and not too greasy, so it mixed nicely with the salad overall. I will definitely come back to Opa the next time I'm really hungry for Greek style food. read more

Quite the opposite impression this time around, we stopped in for lunch spur of the moment, ordered the Greek Salad and Pita Chicken Souvlaki and were in for a treat. First to the table was a pita bread, hummus, cucumber and tiki sauce plate. In itself is quite the appetizer and delicious. Then came our order, my wife's Greek Salad looked great but the Chicken Souvlaki was excellent, plenty of chicken, moist tender and very tasty. The chicken went far as there was plenty to put on my wife's salad plate and we both had more than enough. We then ordered the baklava as I'm always in search of "good" baklava - it is hard to find. The food was prepared in 5-10 min and I had no issue picking up with ample parking. I ordered the gyro wrap, and I was shocked at how much food there was for ~$13. I don't look to write negative reviews but this place is terrible! We tried it for the first time this past Friday night. We came in around 815, definitely not late and they only had one other table. They start by bringing out a appetizer plate (ice cold pita slices, hummus, cucumber, and tzatziki). We order a few cocktails, the lamb shank, and a two combo plate (chicken and beef) kebab. I asked the waiter who clearly doesn't understand English, if they can substitute fries instead of the rice. He said yes. We wait about 20 minutes to get our food. Let's start with the lamb shank. It came out cold, with a blob of tomato sauce on it. No taste and cold. The kebab combo came out along with a gyro plate that I never order. I explained this to the manager that I didn't order the gyro, I only asked about the meat to the server who once again had no firm understanding of the English language. Greek salad bad virtually no dressing, it came with rice which I asked for fries, and the two sticks kebabs were also cold. So frustrating that we expected to much more from Greek food. We decided to skip dessert. Waiter dropped off the bill, left all the empty plates on the table, and kept coming back to pick up the bill which we were not ready to pay yet. Again no plates were picked up from the table. We eventually just paid the bill and left. Let's move forward to Sunday night. We decided to come back again and only order dessert. We come in around 8pm. The waiter seats us outside, only 1 other table outside. We waited 32 minutes for service. Nobody took our order. We told them twice that we were only looking for a dessert and drinks. Nobody came to the table to take our order. We were aggravated at the lack of ANY service. I asked the one table near us if they have seen their server tonight and the couple immediately started to lift their empty drink glasses saying they have not come around. After a few additional minutes we stood up and started to walk out visibly aggravated. My date decided to actually go inside and speak her mind to owner. The manager/owner was not responsive to anything we had to say. The only response he gave was that "it was our fault tonight". They didn't want to hear anything else about it. Nothing about the horrible service, nothing about the cold food served l from Friday, nothing about the fact that their servers do not understand what customers order. This is a terrible excuse and embarrassment for Greek food. Will never come back and will never recommend this place to anyone. They have no respect for customers and have no understanding of basic customer service. read more

To be honest, I have been to only a few restaurants during the past 9 months of the COVID Pandemic. However, my friend was craving Greek Food and I had heard about this new/old restaurant that had just moved to 4th Ave. Their website made it easy to check out the menus and the new location is so much more convenient. The restaurant was VERY clean and not too crowded. We had a takeout order and everything was packaged well and the order was 100% ACCURATE with salad dressings, etc. The salads were crisp and fresh and outstanding! The food was AMAZING! We both had the shrimp and it was fresh and plentiful. I think the only improvement could have been the addition of pita bread. I love that the menu is VERY large so there are so many dishes to choose from and we have lots of choices! So glad that this new Greek restaurant is here! read more

I ordered the lamb souvlaki dinner and my husband had the gyros/chicken souvlaki dinner combo. Wonderful!! Chicken - all white meat - was very flavorful and tender. Gyro meat was tasty, too. My lamb was cooked med rare to order, tender and delicious! Served with yellow rice, a generous serving of Greek salad, and pita bread. Not only was the food excellent, our waiter was very attentive and thoughtful. He remembered to turn the tv channel to the game we requested after the current game ended.
