This was our first time at Opa. We were a large party, so we were able to make a reservation. It was a busy Saturday night and it was fairly noisy in there. Sadly most place are theses days. We ordered a variety of appetizers and they were all generous enough portions that everyone in our party could try all of them. Everyone got a main meal and they were all excellent. I loved the fact that all dishes were veggie forward, with fresh veggies, not frozen. The plating was appealing to the eye ( and very photogenic!) we topped dinner off with coffee and dessert. The coffee was robust and the desserts light and fluffy. The waitstaff was attentive and quick to respond to requests. Everyone in our party had been to Greece so we definitely were excited when we had heard there was a Greek restaurant in the area. The food was spot on! The only thing missing was the wonderfully warm Greek weather! read more

My partner and I would be overjoyed if there were a restaurant in Waterville that had great ambience, a full bar with an actual bartender (i.e., not someone who has to Google anything more complicated than a vodka soda), and was consistent in terms of food and service. There is not yet a restaurant here that checks all of those boxes, but I am hopeful that someone--maybe Opa--can rise to the challenge. My first complaint happened before we even left the house and I hope is an easy fix for them: I called several times that afternoon (to ask if they had a full bar and if we needed a reservation) and could not get anyone to answer. Very annoying. There was no wait for our Saturday night visit, but I can see how space might be a problem on a busy night. There was a blast of air in the dining room every time someone opened the door; installing a second door to the sidewalk (and maybe an awning with a heat lamp?) might address both problems. We had the Scordalia as an appetizer, which was slow to come out, but good (it's basically mashed potatoes). For dinner, my partner had the Moussaka and I had the Pastitsio. The Moussaka was good, however, my entree was not hot when it arrived, and the pasta was pretty overcooked and bland. I won't order it again, but I'm optimistic about a number of other main courses. One final note: our server was very slow to clear our dirty dishes and glassware. As someone who worked restaurants for a number of years, I'd forgive this if he had been extremely busy, or if Opa were not advertising itself as "fine dining," but the restaurant was only half-full, and he walked away from the table with empty hands more than once. When the price point for entrees is in the $20+ range, the standards for quality of food AND quality of service go up. Management needs to properly train the waitstaff or replace them. Oh, also we would kill for fresh dolmas! Forgot to ask why they aren't on the menu. read more

My friend & I went yo Opas for supper last night. She had the lamb shank & I had the pan seared scallops, we sampled each others plates & both raved @ how delicious they both were. I had never had the Fregola Tagliatelle before & have a new dish I just love. Before the main course we tried the yogurt dip, delicious! & the potato/ garlic spread.( would not recommend,) basically cold mashed potatoes with garlic... Wear warm clothes as the door opens up to the outside& constantly cools the room down considerably, in spite of sitting next to the fireplace. read more

Super busy night*, so I think the issues we had could be blamed on that. However, we still had a mediocre experience, so here's the honest review: Food flavors and recipes: Seemed really great. Food preparation: OK. some rice was not cooked. Hard kernels. Cold by the time it was served.* Wine list: good. Had Greek varietals that many restaurants won't have. Servers: Very friendly BUT did not serve things we ordered. Appetizer never came. Second glass of wine never came. They spent most of their time apologizing to us.* That's nice, but better execution would have been better. Noise: Super loud. One of the loudest restaurants I've been in.* Cleanliness seemed very good. Owner was there. I would try it again if it wasn't crowded. read more

Delicious gyro - can't wait to return to try the moussaka.

Great food. Great vibe. The customer service was excellent. A guy who I assume to be either the owner or a manager even came over as we were leaving to ask about our experience. We got the white sangria which was delicious, the garlic paste (can't remember the actual name), and the stuffed chicken. All of which were great. The food came out promptly. Overall a great time read more

Nice place with good service. Doesn't scream authentic but it tastes good. Will give it another try and see if it warrants five stars. Was too costly for five on the first trip. Try it you'll like it I'm sure. read more

Food was better than average, the chicken kabob that they brought my 4year old granddaughter was a little burnt, but we cut those bits off. My wife had a mixed green salad with yellow beets and grilled chicken which she enjoyed. I had a braised lamb shank "ragu"that was off the bone served with orzo and sautéed spinach that was good. read more

We were visiting from Maryland and walked all downtown restaurants before we settled on OPA and we were so glad we did. Not only was the food remarkable but the staff and the vibe of the diners was warm and welcoming. We started with the eggplant dip and pita, I won't try and spell its Greek name. The pita was perfect and the dip was delicious. We coupled that with the calamari that differentiated itself from the norm. For a main(e) course we had a chicken special that was stuffed in phyllo served with cauliflower that was seasoned well. Dessert was on the same level as everything else. Orange Pie & baklava and we cleaned the plate. If we ever rerun to Waterville we will be visiting OPA read more

VisitedWith friends and family. Felt at home immediately. "At home " cooking at its finest, Greek/Mediterranean style. Authentic to the nine's. The owner is a true gentleman and always most accommodating and welcoming. His mother is right out of a book... Caring and full of pride in what her family does in the Opa kitchen! Waitresses friendly. Service spot on. A great overall experience. The roasted chicken and scallops were superb. Just right. Our family's Destiination spot whenever we visit Waterville....Thank you Sotirios and Anna..! read more

My husband and I enjoyed dinner at Opa last night. It was splendid! I had the lamb shank; he had a chicken dish. We each had an appetizer (spanokopita and the grilled cheese with fig sauce), and each had a dessert (orange cake which was called pie for some reason, and cheesecake with a drizzle of Godiva chocolate. I can never manage to finish a main course, so today's lunch at home will include half a lamb shank (yum!). My husband's meal was the perfect size, permitting him to enjoy both his appetizer and half of my dessert without feeling painfully full. Every bite was fabulous. The service was excellent, though the place filled up faster than expected for a Wednesday night and the waiters were really stretched. The owners pitched in to wait tables! They also chatted with us a bit, which was lovely. There's a nice gas fire to keep you warm during these frigid winter months. For the time being it's a good idea to sit at a distance from the door, since cold air enters along with new diners, but they'll be installing a second door (for an air pocket) as soon as the permits arrive. My only slightly negative surprise was the lack of salt and pepper on any table. But as we dug into our meals we realized no amendments were needed. read more

Very disappointed in the entrees: Moussaka and Calamari. Bland, undercooked, mushy consistency. On positive note, good pour on the alcohol. From hindsight should have had drinks there then gone somewhere else for food. We were traveling through the area and picked Opa based on Yelp reviews. Maybe we just had an off night, but the sparse attendance should have alerted us. read more

Had a great experience at Opa tonight. It was our first time there and the service was wonderful. I was most excited to try the calamari that I've read such great reviews about. Unfortunately it wasn't as tender as I've read about. The owner? Came over and offered to remake it, no problem, explaining that they have recently received it from a different supplier than usual (bummer). The remake didn't come out much better and still had a chewy quality I didn't like although the sauce was flavorful. He was more than gracious in offering to remake it and take it off the bill! Wonderful service! I will definitely go back and try it again in the future and hopefully they will be able to get a better supplier. Everything else we had was wonderful. Especially the meatballs small plate, stuffed grape leaves and the grilled eggplant entree! That was so flavorful I will go back just for that, and to try some other things. Only complaint is the entree pricing at ~20 per entree. And the portions don't justify it. I'm from Boston area and vacation here, so I'm used to paying those prices but usually get more for the money where I live! Boston prices in Waterville, ME? Well, I guess times are changing. It won't stop me from going back but I feel it would be to their benefit to reduce prices by a couple dollars (on entrees only) or offer a couple dishes in the $14-$15 range like most places do. Not docking a star for it cause it's a wonderful addition to Waterville and I hope they do well there! read more

Staff was friendly, had great suggestions from the menu. We were in town for a few days and were so impressed we went back for more. Beautiful restaurant, easy parking. Definitely worth a try! read more

The full Greek experience! The restaurant was clean and was very relaxing. My wife and I had a waitress named Mya. She was very welcoming and provided us with fantastic recommendations. The owners greeted us as we entered and sat down. They took the family atmosphere to another level by decorating a Christmas tree, fireplace, and more. The food was nothing short of amazing. I have found a new date night spot for my wife and I. Just what we needed to de-stress. I couldn't have been more happy overall. read more

An exceptional restaurant! Cozy, positive fun vibe. We have been there at least a dozen times. Every single time the food has been absolutely delicious. You can tell the owner puts his whole heart and soul into his establishment. Amazing drinks, diverse menu, authentic, fresh, homemade desserts made by owners Greek mom...the lamb is out of this world! read more

Food was fantastic. And the baklava was amazing. Great service too. Only thing I'd add is a little music playing outside would add to the ambiance. read more

Fantastic food and service! We've been twice and have enjoyed food both times.

We love OPA! We've come here quite a few times and always have a good experience. The owner and staff are amazing - friendly, welcoming & ask for feedback on dishes and drinks. They have quite the list of various cocktails, many fruity and sweet. I love the strawberry rhubarb martini and the strawberry habanero smash. The menu has a nice mix of Greek dishes and more "American" style foods - everyone should be able to find something they like. The meal starts off with homemade olive oil served with slices of good bread. On our last visit, we started with the hummus and pita (which comes out warm!) as well as the pan-seared meatballs - yum! The Carbonara is a favorite, and this time was better than ever! Ordered without the mushrooms, there was a perfect balance of sauce and cheese - warm and delicious. The "deconstructed baklava" is a good choice for desert, served with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce & whipped cream. If you haven't been here yet, you have to try OPA! read more

I recently attended a private graduation party at Opa and would highly recommend Opa to anyone looking for a venue able to accommodate a large group. The food was delicious and the entire staff was professional and friendly. read more

We hosted a private party after after Colby's graduation at Opa. I highly recommend. Working with Sotirios, the owner on planning was seamless. He created a menu that accommodated 60 people with various food preferences and allergies. The event was all we could hope food and the food was amazing. Thank you Opa for hosting an amazing dinner for us. read more

Our meals (all 5 of them!) were some of the best we've had - flavorful, cooked to perfection, served with a positive, friendly manner. While we were there, someone came who had driven all the way from South Portland just for this takeout (!!); for us, a very welcome stop as we passed through the area on 95. Thanks so much! read more

All-around great spot to dine. Fun young owners that clearly put a lot of time, thought, and energy into this space and into the menu. Great Greek food that ranges from the cozy comfort to the culinarily elegant. First time trying salmon ceviche, and it was well enjoyed by our table. As industry folks ourselves that also happen to have two little kids, it's hard to find that spot that hits all the marks for a night out with the family. They really nailed it. Calamari with the spicy sauce was fantastic, appetizers were really solid and fun to share, and the grilled lamb dish in the picture with parsnip puree, brussel sprouts, and a bunch of other wonderful things was top notch. Our two-year-old kept asking us to put more on her fork for her. And of course we definitely appreciate a fun staff that's willing to let us bring our little kids in and entertainment them as well. Well done, a great spot to have in our neighborhood. Cheers! read more

Opa - Grilled lamb special - Greek Near Me - Waterville, Maine

The wait for a carry out was ridiculous, there was no one in the restaurant, I will never order from them again.Too many other places to pick from. read more

I have been to Opa 3 times. The positive: Some of the food I have tired, namely the Spanakopita & Greek Salad are good as is the bread that they bring to the table with oil for dipping. The negative: The Pastitsio & Cabbage Salad are not. The Pastitsio is bland & totally unremarkable. Let's call the Cabbage Salad what it is, Cole slaw. The temperature of the food that is supposed to be hot Is less than that. A friend's eggplant dish came out COLD! The service is uneven and customers are brought into any drama that may be contributing to that fact, which personally, drives me nuts!! When there with a group of six, two folks ordered a salad & a small plate. Both were brought at the same time and before any of the rest of us received any food. By the time the rest of us were served, these folwere almost done. Near the end of the meal, one of the owners appeared at our table to apologize for the cold food & we were subjected to his perceived reason for the cold food....a chef called in sick & he was in the kitchen. Hmmm....interesting that him being in the kitchen is an excuse for cold & lukewarm food & a reason for poor service! When servers are new, they need to be pretty well conversant about the menu items. I want to like Opa, and I will return because there are several more dishes I want to try. I hope to be able to write a better review in the future. I went back to OPA this week as there was another item I wanted to try. I had Spanakopita and Gyros. The Spanakopita was still good, as was the bread they bring to the table with oil for dipping. The gyros were not good. OPA's gyros are opened faced pieces of bread, some of which was dry, very dry small pieces of pork along with onions and spring mix. There are four gyros & they are served with small, limp french fries. The first bite of my last gyro also had a piece of hair in it. I was not charged for that dish. The restaurant was crowded. My server was good. The staff looked and acted as if in a frenzy, as usual. I will not be back to OPA anytime soon, if ever. read more

We've been to OPA a couple of times and will definitely return. The food and the service are exceptional - top of the line. At times service can be a little slow because the restaurant is crowded but the waitstaff are pleasant and as helpful as they can be. Sometimes it can be a little noisy but with food like this on the table, it is well worth the trip. When I take it all into account, I'm confident that a five-star review is the right assessment. read more

First time to OPA; didn't feel overly welcomed when we first arrived, honestly. There were several tables empty so I jokingly asked the greeter, who I assumed was the owner, if they had room for 2. After a little hesitation he said it would be a little while and suggested we sit at the bar, which we did. Took a little while for the bartender to wait on us but he appeared pretty busy and the owner kept barking orders at him so he seemed a little stressed but he was very polite and kind when he did get to us. After a while at the bar and noticing the tables were still empty I asked the bartender if there was a party coming in and he told us yes. Something I would suggest the greeter tells people right up front. After a half hour we were seated. Bread and olive oil was amazing and a nice touch. Overall, the flavors of our meal was great; my eggplant dish was a little burnt and crispy but edible. Our waitress was new and messed up a couple of times but she was sweet. The kicker and why I didn't give a 5 star was when we noticed that our bill showed we had ordered dessert when we clearly had not and had just told the waitress "no" when she offered. That was fine but when the owner came over and questioned us about it and whether we were sure we didn't ask for it to go, were insulted. We just spent $90+ there and he felt the need to ask us about a $7 dessert? Husband and I both felt that was so inappropriate and disappointing. It will be awhile before we go back. Aren't you supposed to value your customer? Well, we were not. read more

New place so, to be fair, I'm giving it six months or so to work out the inevitable kinks. Food is quite good and I think it will only get better. Staff friendly but inexperienced. They try very hard and will get there, I'm sure. Entrees hit our table well before we were finished with our appetizers. The interior is lovely and worthy of a fine dining experience. Desserts delicious. Owners want you to enjoy your time there. It was extremely noisy the three times we have dined...so noisy each time, we rushed to finish. This is our biggest gripe, by far. read more

Great service. Great food. Owners very personable and experience all we could ask for. Great addition to downtown Waterville.

My daughter and I visited Colby for Students that have been accepted. We tried many of the local restaurants and Opa is a five star stand out! Everything is prepared with the freshest ingredients and great attention is paid to the pairing of flavors, textures and the presentation on the plate. We tried the spanakopita which was out of this world! Light, flaky with fresh spinach, mint and a delicious taziki sauce on the side; I had the fresh salmon, which was caught that morning, and was absolute perfection; my daughter tried the recommended moussaka which was melt in your mouth delicious. We wanted to sample the desserts but ran out of time. We will definitely put Opa on the top of our list when visiting our daughter at Colby. It is a gem. Bravo! read more
