Food is amazing. I hope they'll figure out a way to be year-round and not only seasonal (seating is mostly outside), but food is full-bodied and delicious ;). Thin-crust Mediterranean-style pizza for the kids, and an amazing variety of other flavors, textures, and Greek treats for everyone else. Local beers and Mediterranean wines on tap. Go on a nice day and you might not leave.

To get to the point, this place is a hidden gem in Waterville. I came here for lunch last week…read morewhen I was in town to visit the art museum. I selected Opa because of the other great reviews and I like Mediterranean food. I was greeted with a warm welcome as soon as I came in and sat at the bar. I initially got a Greek coffee which was made to order, hot and delicious. Ava, the bartender, was professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. I couldn't have asked for more. I ordered the falafel dish and was quickly brought a plate of warm bread and olives in oil. Both were outstanding! Looking over the menu, I noticed they had a few Greek wines so I asked Ava about one interesting one that had hints of fig and tobacco. She immediately poured me a sample to taste and it was delicious so I got a glass. My meal came and it too was really outstanding. Every bite was delicious. To add to my experience, Ava put the Bob Ross channel on the TV above the bar so I got my art experience too. Later, the chef came out and talked to me for a while about travelling to Greece to really study the cuisine. He was clearly continuing to immerse himself in the culture to further perfect his already highly skilled craft. I would highly recommend Opa. What a wonderful total experience.

Then I reasked the bar tender and she was too busy - asked a girl again - never came back. Finally a customer grabbed one and handed it to me . We tried it yesterday- absolutely awful - sorry but -- the meat was super fatty - couldn't chew it - show it to my GREEK friend from Astoria Queens cause she couldn't understand- she agreed- way too fatty -- We dumped it - couldn't chew it. We also ordered spanakopita. We opened it up tonight -- Triangle shaped individual with JUST spinach -- the feta cheese was spread out UNDER these triangle spinach thing (4) super tiny like appetizers- not a meal - no salad either like really? This was a dinner? so very very upset over this food. You will say to me it's was Mothers Day - 9 tables isn't very busy for Mother's Day -- a regular dinner crowd. We expected when we drive 1 hr to this restaurant get great food at a place that almost has 5 stars. I can understand we aren't in Astoria Queens NY but come on - this wasn't hard at all. I waited a whole year to drive back & I really wanted to give a great review but the food was just awful. Very are very disappointed . . .

Unfortunately, not this time. I started with Westpoint oysters which were superb, maybe my best raw oysters ever. I usually then order the sprouts but decided to go back to a previous favorite of mine from my dinners there in '22 and '23, the mussels, which had been served then with some epic sourdough toast which made them a 5-star because you could sop up the delicious broth and still have a delightful crunch. Unfortunately they now only are served with some sourdough bread discs, which just get saturated and soggy. Not at all the same experience. Most of that wonderful broth was wasted. Then, the lobster risotto, which had always been scrumptious. Unfortunately, the chefs got heavy-handed with the cheese in the risotto so that the taste of the sweet lobster chunks was overpowered rather than complimented as it was in every previous year. I spoke with Shane, their very personable and capable manager about the mussels(or clams) and lack of toast so hopefully that will change by next year when I return. It's still a great restaurant with a wonderful view of the Sheepscot River, a destination experience.

But seriously, if you're a hummus fan, do yourself a favor and order it. My wife and I visited for an employee outing, and we were impressed. The staff was friendly and efficient, quickly taking and delivering drink orders. Our group ordered several appetizers, all of which arrived in a reasonable time. I sampled a few chicken wings, but I mainly focused on my pita and hummus plate--and I'm glad I did! Having spent time in the Middle East, I know what freshly made hummus tastes like, and this did not disappoint. It was served with carrots, Greek black olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, and a drizzle of Greek olive oil seasoned with pepper. The pepper-infused olive oil added a whole new depth of flavor--something I'd never had before. After one bite, my wife and a few of her coworkers instantly regretted not ordering it themselves. Being the generous guy I am, I shared a little... but not too much! The prices were reasonable, and the quality matched what you'd expect from a great Greek restaurant. I'd love to go back and explore more of the menu, though due to dietary restrictions, I won't be able to indulge in the pizza that everyone raves about. But if it's anything like the hummus, I can only imagine how good it must be!

The waitress was very nice as we were talking and took a minute to order. My friend and I ordered the Beef Gyro and we split a small fry. My other friend ordered the Murphy sandwich. Our general consensus is it was just ok. The Gyro were very messy to eat and the meat was strange looking and to the taste neither one of us knew what it was. The fries were hot. I ordered a burger and fries to go and my son was very disappointed as well. He didn't even eat it. This is probably a one and done for me. I really wanted it to be better than it is.

The site is transformed inside from the driving range outside and has fantastic food and drink. We got a specialty coffee and mint tea to start.
