Everything was going great. Seated right away by the hostess. Got the table I wanted, waitress came right away and took my drink order, came back and took my appetizer order and within a short period of time I was enjoying both my drink and appetizer. She then took my order for dinner which came out hot and made to order. But that's when it fell apart. It seemed the waitress was too busy to take care of my needs once she served me. I had to wait and flag her down (which took several tries) to get more to drink. When I was ready to order dessert, again I had to try and flag her down. Once I did flag her down I asked her for the dessert menu. She told me I could go inside (I was dinning outdoors) and see even more items that weren't on the menu. I told you no I just need the dessert menu (I already knew what I wanted I just needed the name of it with its description). So I waited and watched for her to bring the dessert menu. She NEVER returned. So at that point I figured she didn't want a tip. I went in and had to ask the waitress inside four times to see the dessert menu. She just wanted me to point in the dessert case what I wanted! It's almost as if they don't want you buying their desserts. Of course if I wanted to get up and go to a counter I could have gone to McDonalds for a lot less money and better service. It's got some lounge seating against one wall and even some patio seating if it ever stops raining. That even has fire pits for the cooler weather if sitting outside is your thing. It's a bit of a drive from Indy proper but SO TOTALLY WORTH IT!! They make all the Greek classics plus a Greek spin on some American dishes. My husband always gets the lamb chops. I'm slightly ashamed that I've lived in Avon for three years now and only recently tried Opa for the first time. What a hidden gem! An unassuming, small restaurant at the end of a strip mall in Avon, this place wasn't on my date night list - but it should have been! The decor is beautiful and they have a lovely porch. The food though, is the amazing part. They have a huge selection of Greek/Mediterranean dishes. Highly recommend the stuffed grape leaves, (dolmades) any lamb dish, and of course their gyros. :) The sides make the meal even better - their potatoes are to die for and the steamed green beans and onions are quite delicious too. Go hungry and treat yourself to a hummus appetizer- it beats the premade/storebought by a long shot, especially because of the warm pita bread it's served with. Will be back! read more

This is a pretty great Greek restaurant. It was crazy busy on Saturday night so I felt rushed to eat so they could get someone else in. We had the flaming cheese which was good. I also had the spinach and cheese in fila dough. It was a little too heavy on the spinach so not sure if I would order it again. The saganaki was on par with what you expect. The wait staff is excellent still learning the menu but very nice and fast. Interior decor and furnishings were nicer than I anticipated and are accompanied by a nice alfresco dining area that would be awesome if it wasn't overlooking the parking lot, but still nice to have the option. For a Greek restaurant that we only have to drive 15 minutes to get to, OPA! is truly fitting for the 3-star "A-OK" rating. Is this my favorite Greek food in town?....um, no. Will it fill a craving if time is short?... yes! We've made 3-4 visits to OPA! over the past 6 months. Each trip the service is "decent" (not stellar, but not horrible either). I typically get their avgolemono soup, with a side of gyro meat & a pita. Their avgolemono is "ok", it is a little lighter on the lemon than I prefer, is missing a bit of the body that I desire (they probably use less eggs), & they use rice instead of orzo. There is a decent amount of chicken in the soup. The gyro meat is always excellent, & is always a sizeable portion as a side. Their pita is lackluster. It's overly toasted, and is missing a bit of the delightful texture of pita as a result. They are closer to crackers than just standard warm pita. We got the baklava on one visit, but would never order it again. It was missing a complexity of flavor that is usually present in baklava, and just tasted like floury phyllo dough & watered down honey. My husband typically gets the gyro when we're there, and it is a HUGE gyro that he enjoys. It has a great amount of meat & toppings relative to the price. This restaurant has fun, bright murals, which help to open up what would otherwise be an overly-cramped restaurant. The heating/cooling in the building is uneven, during winter some tables are FREEZING, and others are located under blazing hot heat vents. The hostesses seem a bit inept for managing turnover/flow in the restaurant, so I would avoid this place on a Friday or Saturday night the like the plague. On top of that, the waiting area for the restaurant is REALLY small/cramped. OPA! could definitely benefit from one of those enclosed tent systems for people waiting for tables outside of their door (it is covered by an awning, but that doesn't stop wind/rain if weather is poor). Overall, we'll eat here again because it's close...but it's OPA! is lacking some "umph" as far as what we expect from a Greek restaurant. read more

While the Indy metro area has a few good Greek restaurants, the West side was bereft. OPA! has rectified this situation. It is in a strip mall, but it is nicely decorated. It has a naturalistic theme.. It isn't the typical faux Mykonos whitewashed scheme. Still, you know it's a Greek restaurant. The food consists of all the classics, from moussaka to souvlakia. They also have a fair number of vegetarian options for vegetarians or people observing Lent. I had hummus--they serve ample pita bread triangles with their dips. My parents had tipti (a feta cheese dip) and they said it was excellent. I also had excellent calamari. We had large function here and the service was excellent. I would come back here for a birthday party or church luncheon. In fact, I can't wait to come back and try more of their dishes. read more

We got free baklava, but no one could eat it, the honey drizzle was not drizzled, it was poured and it was sitting in an inch of it, all the supposedly flakiness was not there at all.
