The hibachi is also an attraction; However, not as popular with the crowds because of shared seating, which personally, I don't mind. The hibachi chefs go out of their way to make the meal entertaining as well as enjoyable. And you can order sushi while at the hibachi table also. The drinks are top notch! Lychee inspired martinis . We Went to Ooka last night, we've been going there for 15 yrs. or so. Last night was the best Hibachi we have ever had there! The Hibachi chef, Tony, was amazing. He cooked the food better than we have ever had and he was so very entertaining. He was the reason we had so much fun!. The sushi and gyoza were also wonderful. My college roommate and I discovered this place a few years ago as Doylestown is a midway point for us to meet for lunch. Due to Corvid outbreak of course, haven't been here for more than two years and we were so happy to meet yesterday. We weren't disappointed. Our lunch special with chillian sea bass was as good as we remember! Our server, however, presented us with our check and looked surprised when we asked for dessert menu. Both desserts, chocolate cake with ice cream and cream brûlée were delicious. Once again, she approached us with check in her hand without asking us. She did tell us she started four weeks ago. One very important factor when it comes to sushi is the freezing process while being transported. This affects the taste and freshness of fish. Not many people can separate good sushi from bad sushi, but for those of you that can, this restaurant welcomes you. Ooka takes sushi seriously and you can taste it immediately. My family and I have been here a total of 3 times now and they haven't failed to amaze us each and every time. A sushi restaurant that takes their fish seriously is something I have always appreciated. My personal favorites here are the Alaskan hand roll, tobiko, yellowtail and their king salmon; all of which are not only delicious but so delicately put together and insanely fresh. Sometimes tobiko (flying fish eggs) can be absolutely terrible. You can tell by how cloudy it appears to be. At Ooka the tobiko is clear as crystal, bright in color and full of that fresh fish egg flavor. Not only is the restaurant lovely with a very relaxing ambience, but it's located in Doylestown which is absolutely adorable. Havent had a bad experience at ooka to date. Really my only gripe with this location is the parking. There isnt much of it but there is a large lot across the street that works fine if you dont mind the lot The hibachi is the experience you want if you are coming here for the first time or with friends. For the most part, we always prefer to sit on the hibachi side That being said, the dining side makes for a nice date night and more formal setting The sushi is some of the best around and overall the place has a nice atmosphere Its can be a little pricey but its always worth what you pay read more

First, let me start with the family who was also getting Hibachi tonight (10/9) at 5:00. Specifically the woman/mom. You really need to realize that your actions are being watched by your little ones. Some of the things I heard from you this evening while making sure that every person around you could hear & also not enjoy their meal was mortifying. Your husband even tried to get you to lower your voice at one point. You definitely could've handled that much better. As you & I had our heated discussion after you berated every employee you could & I couldn't take it anymore, then I watched your daughter & son mimic me & even talk back... you should be very ashamed. Every nasty thing you said about the staff or myself your children loudly repeated. Honestly, I hope you teach them kindness as well. I would NEVER allow my children to not only act that way, but talk to another adult like that. And my children are not angels at all. But they know they cannot treat others the way you were. Your waiter had nothing to do with your experience with the cook, but you didn't mind proudly announcing that you will not be tipping. Shame on you. It's clear you never worked in the food industry & honestly I hope you don't eat out often. No human being deserves to be treated like that. PERIOD. Second: to the manager this evening, our waiter & the hibachi chef. THANK YOU! We had a wonderful time as always. You were all very kind & gracious. Even when being treated as poorly as you were. I love Ooka and it pains me to write that I have no interest in returning after tonight's experience. We had a 7:30pm reservation for hibachi. And after a long week at work, I was looking forward to a cocktail. I ordered the Kyuri, which is Effen Vodka and St Germaine - it's garnished with a cucumber and mint, all fancy. I get them every time. This time, the taste was a little off and it was really chunky. Like I said, I had a LONG week so I didn't care and I drank it. When our waitress came around and asked if I wanted another, I just said yes. I figured it was easier than asking for the menu to pick something else. I was brought some yellowish drink that was garnished with lime. I took a sip and thought... is this vodka with pineapple? I drank it anyway because I wasn't going to be "that person" to waste it by sending it back not to mention it would take another 20 minutes to get what I wanted and I was practically finished eating. No real complaints. I would still give 5 stars. The stars started to plummet when I got the check. It read: 1 Kyuri and 2 Titos Vodka. What? The drink I ordered was not a double and I sure AF didn't order two. Hello, I didn't even order the FIRST ONE. But I was accused of drinking two of the pineapple drinks because that's how many the bartender made. Insert eye roll. If the server didn't lose the check she would know who ordered what. The person who started the vodka/pineapple trend was the girl on the opposite end of the table. How could I possibly have three drinks when the server was only at our table twice. I wasn't double fisting. And when the erroneous drink was removed from the check, they acted like they were doing me a favor by "taking a drink off". That's insulting. There's a security camera pointed at the table, review the tapes. The service was lacking tonight. I understand having a bad day or whatever but this was like I was trying to get a drink for free. And to be glared at by management for an incompetent server is unacceptable. I noticed pineapple girl's party of four didn't get the white rice they ordered until the end of dinner. I've been coming to Ooka for 15+ years now. At first, it was the hibachi that drew us in. How fun & delicious the experience was. Eventually, I started coming for lunch or a lighter dinner - opting for one of their delicious bento boxes or some of their top-notch sushi, sashimi, or maki plates. On a recent visit, I tried their (new to me) Tonkotsu Ramen. It was a generous bowl, full of warm, rich, savory flavors. I loved the broth and thought the eggs were perfectly prepared. I love their bento boxes - the Salmon Teriyaki and Chicken Katsu especially. The additional pieces of California rolls, crispy tempura veggies & shrimp, and steamed gyoza make for an incredibly filling and affordable lunch. Service is always very good and reasonably fast. Very nice interior, clean and welcoming. The menu has a good variety of Japanese dishes. Our lunches were good portions and more extensive than other Japanese restaurant I've been to. Our meals not only included the customary miso soup and rice, but also some tempura items (shrimp & broccoli), a few French fry like vegetables, two stuffed dumplings (gyoza) as well as sliced ginger and a couple rolled seaweed treats. The chicken tonkatsu I had was delicious, and the other dishes had by friends looked very good as well. Everyone made positive comments about their meals. The only one problem that turned into a situation is that the AC was blasting and we all were rather uncomfortable. When I asked for it to be turned down, I was told they couldn't. I love AC in the summer, but this was ridiculous! I don't understand businesses like this who refuse to try to make their customers comfortable. Due to this, our food got cold quickly and we didn't want to stay long to have any followup items. I wouldn't go back with that type of attitude. One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in the area! Lobster and filet hibachi - lobster and filet are tender, vegetables are nicely cooked with a crunch, and best of all, the entree is served with udon noodles - my favorite! This is one of the only restaurants I know that serves hibachi with thick udon noodles, yummy! Sushi rolls are also delicious, fish is fresh, good rice, everything you could ask for. Desserts are Americanized. They don't have your typical Japanese desserts, so don't expect tempura ice cream or Mochi. The American desserts are typical but good as well. Overall the experience was okay. Some pros - the Habachi food was good and the sushi that was ordered next to us looked delicious. Some cons - we made a reservation for 8pm but didn't sit down until 8:45pm. I'm usually fine with reservation delays especially with Habachi as it's hard to time especially on a Saturday. However we waited 1 hour for our chef, then another 30 minutes for our check once requested. By the time we ate we were too tired to really enjoy the food. read more

I almost hate to write this review as Ooka Doylestown has been such a shining star for so long, but that star has gone out and fallen... We had a group of 12 at the Hibachi grill this past weekend. Entrees ordered were a good representation of the menu: chicken, salmon, calamari, steak, shrimp and vegetarian. The "show" was pretty bland and felt like the chef was annoyed with our group. More important, the food was an incredible let-down. The fried rice was served first, then the noodles, then almost 10 minutes later, the protein was placed on the plates, then 4-5 minutes later the veggies added. This means 15 minutes passed from the rice being served to the dish being complete, making for a cold plate of food. The rice was overcooked (before frying) and clumped together. Underseasoned and very light on the additives (peas, carrots, egg, onion). The noodles were just drowned in soy and sake and then thrown on the plate. In addition to throwing the usual piece of food into the diners mouth, the chef has a squeeze bottle of sake he's spray in your mouth...only his aim was a bit off and you ended up with a ton of sake on your face and on your shirt. I'm pretty sure I could have gotten a DUI just for the amount of sake on my shirt driving home! In addition to the hibachi menu, I ordered some sushi. I've had supermarket end-of-the-day sushi which tasted better and more fresh. The rice was cold and falling apart. The fish itself all had something of a smokey taste to it, not a "smoked" taste, but like someone had just smoked a cigarette and then handled the fish. It was disgusting, this is the first time I've ever left uneaten sushi on my plate. The service was just as bad, the sushi arrived mid meal and there was a good 5 minutes between the roll being delivered and the sashimi plate. Our waitress was friendly, but impossible to find again to get refills on drinks, then, we were charged for additional "soft drinks", even though everyone ordered only beer and sake. What was once a shining jewel of Doylestown is now nothing but a struggling tourist trap. Fortunate for you, there's still Ooka Montgomeryville which continues to delight and impress every time we eat there. read more

My friends and I ordered the sushi pizza to see how Ooka's was - we'd had it once before at the now defunct Megumi in Warrington and wanted to compare. Ooka blew Megumi away! When it came out looking appetizing and didn't smell like cat food, we were already impressed and it tasted as good as it looked! I ordered the Out of Control roll that is tuna, salmon, avocado and tobiko. Very fresh and delicious! I also ordered a Shiitake Mushroom roll which, as expected, contains shiitake mushroom, cucumber inside/outside with smoked salmon, shrimp and avocado. Also fresh and delicious! For dessert, we shared the Green Tea and Red Bean Creme Brulee - yum! Very creamy and decadent. The red bean was regular creme brulee on top of some red bean curds - interesting and tasty! Inattentive waitress that did not help us with the menu. I ordered the Mango Passion Appetizer for $15 plus a miso soup and a salad for my dinner. I walked away hungry. From the description of the appetizer I though it would be more substantial. It ended up being 5 slivers of cucumber wrapped around 1/2 teaspoon of fish salad mayonnaise filling. No mango, no rice, no pieces of all the fishes that were in the description.I couldn't even pick up the pieces without them falling apart. Excellent sushi restaurant in the Philly suburbs. Came in for dinner with a collegue and ordered the sashimi regualr which came with soup and salad for $21. Soup was good and freshly prepared. Salad was your standard bottled dressing but was a decent size and had more than just lettuce. Sashimi was fresh and well prepared. I asked to have some more interesting items to replace the old stand bys of fake crab, octopus and boiled shrimpo and was happy to receive mackeral, spanish mackeral and toro. Beat hibachi I've ever had!!!! Heard about this place a few years ago from friends & decided to go with a group of 10 for my husbands birthday. I truly have no complaints.
