Very disappointed in our 4 meals last night. 2 had sashimi, 1 had sushi and 1 had teriyaki chicken. All the meals were mediocre at best. The soup was tasteless. Very disappointed as have wonderful meals in the past. Our other go to Japanese restaurant is Otaya in Lambertville. While the atmosphere is not as pleasant, the quality of the food is great. read more

Ooka lunch special Quite the deal with lots of food if you choose a bento. Started us both off with miso soup and a salad - both standard and tasty. I chose the curried chicken bento. Come switch two pieces of a Cali roll which were basic and fine. Two pieces of gyoza, also standard. Not crunchy but fine. Four small potato sticks but smothered in some sweet soy sauce was nice and crunchy and tasty. The tempura was perfect though, the shrimp was everything you want in a tempura. Not oily, good crunch. Broccoli was good too. A little weird at first bc the broccoli is soft inside but the tempura is person mmmmm so good. The curried chicken smelled like curry with a hint of the coconut milk. I also love how much veggies they give you cooked perfectly, the green beans still had a good crunch and the carrots weren't too soft, just right just like the chicken which was tender and not dry. But I would appreciate a more curry taste, didn't have enough spices for me. A nice smooth taste but not exactly curry, smells like curry but didn't really taste like it so more spices would be great but overall a great bento box. Boyfs chicken Katsu don was perfect though and had the right sauce and taste you would expect in the katsu don. A good egg on top and the usual texture of the katsu which is normally a bit soft/soggy but that's just also how it is with the sauces and the egg right on top. Rice was well made for both dishes too and not too soggy. Lunch was dope and worth the month. Also got to rolls, sweet potato tempura roll which was nice and warm, tempura fresh from the oil/frying and the purple roll which comes with this great sauce drizzled on it so no need to dip into the soy sauce. Overall great meal I would come back to try their udon or get the katsu don next time read more

I live down the street, so it's convenient for me to run over to Ooka for take-out at lunch. I always wonder why it's busy. I can only guess it's because there's nothing else better. Doylestown isn't exactly a foodie haven, after all. I go for the lunch bento box once in a while. Today I got Salmon Teriyaki. The salmon wasn't as dry as last time. I don't usually eat California rolls, but they come with it. I would never order sushi or sashimi there. Anyhow, the rolls were warm and dry. Ugh. There was maybe a teaspoon of ginger and half teaspoon of wasabi. NO EXAGGERATION. Whomever made this platter was so stingy! There was a little scoop of rice, which would be ok if it were for a little kid. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. In addition, there were no utensils or chopsticks or napkins in the bag. When I got home I called them, and the guy who answered told me it was my fault because I left too quickly. Really? I was late for my take-out, to begin with. Upon entering, I was told to wait even, though my order was bagged and sitting on the table right next to me. Instead of just handing me my order, I was I made to wait approximately five minutes. There was someone else behind me waiting also. I finally reached over for my bag. Only then did the guy pay any attention to me, as I turned to leave, and grabbed the receipt off the bag. I Will NEVER go there there again. I will glady drive the few miles to go to HACHI, one of the best, an excellent Japanese restaurant in Chalfont. read more

Probably the best sushi I have found in Bucks county. Fish is always fresh. Also have a lot of creative sushi rolls and specials that change regularly. Appetizers are also very good as well. Have a small but creative cocktail menu which utilizes Asian ingredients. Decor is nice, modern and clean. Rolls are priced well for the amount and quality provided. Have not had the hibachi but have heard good things. Only issue I have is finding parking. read more

As of March 2015 this place is still the best...EVERY time we go in there its outstanding...never disappointed...you can't miss by going here...we like to go when it's not busy on the weekend, like around 1:30...and we just tried for the first time the fried tofu appetizer & it was great... Previous Writeup - Excellent food and service all of the time...we never leave Ooka without saying, "they are the best Japanese" ever...I get the Bento Box with Chilean Sea Bass and my girlfriend gets some veggie rolls or the sesame chicken...we love their salad dressing and would drink a bowl of it if they brought it to us! Nice atmosphere too. Can get crowded on the weekend, so pick an off time to get in and enjoy a quieter Ooka. read more

Ooka is our go to restaurant for Sushi. They have the best rolls in Doylestown. The atmosphere is also great, a pleasure to dine here.

This is such a great place. My wife brought me here for a Sunday evening Birthday dinner. Everyone is so nice, the food was great, and the place is well decorated and comfortable. So glad this place is close to our house! We will be back often! read more

So disappointed!!! After reading the reviews, we were very excited to eat dinner at OOKA, Doylestown. The restaurant looked great; the staff was able to accommodate us quickly for dinner even though we did not have a reservation. Also, I must admit that our waitress was efficient. With that said, we began to have problems when the hibachi chef did not serve rice with the dinner which is included. Then upon serving the portions of steak, the portions were minuscule. I also did not get a reasonable portion of the noodles. Finally, the scallops were served at the end of the meal... By then, my plate was practically empty. I also found it weird that the group next to me received the same portion of steak, but the chef then granted them additional portions of steak that he kept bringing from the kitchen. The chef even addressed the lady next to me regarding the portions. No explanation was given for the excess steak to the lady who was in shock when she received the amount of meat given. I did notify management upon payment of my bill and was offered a side portion of fried rice. I was not interested in their offer as I left this highly rated restaurant hungry and extremely disappointed after paying $185 for dinner!!! read more

This was maybe the 4th or 5th time we have been back and the experience hasn't diminished one pit. We arrived and were quickly seated (5pm on a Saturday) Our server was helpful and did a great job. The sake was suggested by our server and we really enjoyed it. Sashimi and rolls were all really fresh and tasty and it's great to see a lot of wild caught options on the menu. All of the food and drink was amazing, service, ambiance, everything was top notch. Definitely a must try for anyone living or visiting the area. read more

Very fun and tasty!we stopped in for dinner at 8pm on a Thu night and we were seated easily. Easy parking and lovely decor. I had the Lychee Cosmopolitan and it was delicious. My companion had a non alcoholic strawberry drink and it too was really good. We ordered sushi special rolls, each one was great-James Bond, crunchy rolls and Dragon rolls. Food was served with great timing, by our very friendly and helpful waitress. We will be back....the menu had a lot more options beyond sushi which all sound tempting. read more

To add on to some other reviews... Things are changing at Ooka..... What a shame. We have been coming to Ooka for years and used to love it. The last few visits have been extremely disappointing. The sushi has gone down hill. There is no personal care put into the fish:( SAD day We went with a party for the hibachi grill recently. What a disappointment... This used to be an awesome experience. We'd had birthday parties here and spent many special days watching the chef put on a show. First off, EVERY at the table got sick. I didn't want to say anything when we were eating and figured it was just me. I didn't want to ruin everyone else's meal. The scallops and shrimp did not taste right. The chicken was off.. Definitely OFF. What the hell guys.... and I feel like there is nobody there to talk to .... The manager just looks at you like they an not speak English, unless you are ordering and getting ready to pay, then they understand you perfectly... This is unacceptable guys.. We have paid you a small fortune over the past 7 years. Don't be cheap. Throw out your old food, don't serve it!!! We had kids that got sick and that could have taken a wrong turn.... We will not be coming back to Ooka after years of loyalty.... Customer service sucks.. (which when your food is top-notch, customers can look past), but when your food quality goes down hill, you have no right to be haughty. Pull it together Oooka or get out of Doylestown!!! This is my first week in Doylestown and my first restaurant to review in the area. I have to say, I found it to be quite nice. My work colleagues recommended it and as they have been here 3 weeks longer than myself, I trust they have been to a few other places. The fact that they decided to come back is a good sign. Our table decided to get more entrees than sushi this go around but we didn't skip the appetizers. I had the garlic tuna (which I think was a special) and it was very good. The tuna was fresh and the sauce had a nice kick to it at the end. It was served with asparagus spears and some thin noodles. There were two other appetizers ordered at the table but since I was too busy inhaling mine, I didn't pay much attention but they seemed to go over just as well as mine did. I followed this up with an order of the Chilean Sea Bass. Lord, I love this fish! They actually served it teriyaki style but that did not distract from the wonderful flavor. It came on top of some sauteed onions with broccoli and carrots not to mention a bowl of rice. I was stuffed, nicely so. Keep in mind all entrees come with miso soup and salad. I am sure I will be heading back here again with the work team and next time I'll give the sushi a go. read more

A great sushi place and hibachi grill. The atmosphere in the Doylestown Ooka, in particular, is otherworldly that has a dark, cozy feel. The wait staff is friendly and service is good. On the sushi side of things, there are some excellent rolls at Ooka. Try the Crispy, Spicy Salmon Rolls. The fish always tastes very fresh. The sushi prices are reasonable for sushi. For Hibachi, expect a great show. The chefs are #1 good chefs first. The food is always well cooked and never overcooked. A great show? Sure. Expect antics like getting veggies lobbed into your mouth and a few good laughs. The price is definitely more reasonable for lunch, for hibachi, than it is for dinner. Take a $20 for lunch and more for dinner. read more

We came here for lunch with my fiancé's 10 year old nephew. And we're greeted by very friendly staff. Our waiter was very patient with our 10 year old who was new to Japanese food. I appreciate that very much. Unfortunately, the sushi and sashimi were horrendous. The sushi rice lacked vinegar and was so dry it didn't even hold form and my fiancé's sashimi was cut too thick. These are the challenges of the non-Japanese serving Japanese food; Ooka had a Chinese staff and judging by their good I'm guessing a Chinese chef as well. Sashimi should be cut in a way that the fish is able to fit in ones mouth without you shoving it in, and thin enough that it can almost melt in your mouth. My fiancé looking like she was chewing gum! My sushi was so dry it was hard to handle and fell apart. It was sad. I do have to say that the miso soup was really good. read more

A very stylish joint just outside of Doylestown's downtown. The seating is sectioned off so the sushi lovers can sit quietly in stylish, yet comfortable, plush seats while others can enjoy the hibachi show. The bar is stocked with an appropriate mix of Japanese favorites (I'm talking Sapporo) and local favorites. The parent store to two other locations (Montgomeryville and Willow Grove), this place is becoming a suburban staple when it comes to high quality sushi. All of the usual suspects are on the menu (Philadelphia Roll, spicy tuna, etc). There are a few special rolls, but nothing worth noting. Prices are reasonable, but its the quality that sets this place apart. At first peak, you wonder "is it style without substance?" I'm telling you, this place hits the mark. Well worth the trek out here when you're done visiting historic downtown. read more

Ooka is one of my top destinations for dinner with Friends, and it is certainly perfect for a large party-- but make sure you make your reservations in advance. Ooka recently expanded their Doylestown location, and added a sleek bar where you can comfortably sit while your table is readied. The dining space also had a face-lift. The Sushi here is amazing - the Spicy Tuna Roll is a Must, as is the Philadelphia Roll. It is fun to sit at the Sushi bar to watch the chefs prepare your meal- especially if you are planing on sticking with a quick sushi luch/dinner. If Sushi is not "your bag, baby" then the next best option at Ooka is to eat Hibachi. At Hibachi, you eat at one of a few large tables which surround a grill (usually with another party)-- and watch your meal prepared in front of you. Hibachi dinner comes with clear soup, a small salad, your fish/beef/chicken/etc. entree, veggies, rice, and noodles. The best part of Ooka is really the Hibachi show, wherein most chefs attempt to engage and include everyone dining. Ooka is really fun for all ages, but really I would not suggest a regular table/their Teriaki menu-- as it unfortunately falls short when compared to the rest of what Ooka has to offer. read more

Hey, this isn't a bad place at all. We called in asking if they had any reservations open for the evening and they had an opening. We came in to the parking lot and we saw there were no other parking spaces so we had to park at the Wendy's across the street and run over in the pouring rain. Yet, whatever, they can't help that it's raining of course... so we come in, 5 minutes early and were told that our seats just needed to be cleaned. So we (my mom and I) ended up waiting on 2 of the chairs that were right next to the door and was was kind of in a bad place. They seem to have no waiting area, which makes me wonder how chaotic it gets when a large group of people come in and are told to wait. Anyway, after waiting about 15 minutes for them to clean up our table, we were seated. We sat next to 3 other couples, and one of them we chatted with throughout our dinner... anyway, our server seemed to be very busy and rushing around, which I totally understand as I work in a restaurant.... yet my mom asked him for some sugar for her tea and we waited about 5 minutes until we realized he forgot. My mom asked him again and he nodded and ran off.... after awhile my mom was getting pretty impatient, so when he came back to get the tables orders, afterwards, my mom reminded him for the 3rd time. The 3rd time was the charm because a few moments later he came back with the sugar. Also, we asked for tempura sushi for our appetizer and got regular shrimp tempura instead. We figured it would be too much of a hassle for him to send it back, so we ate it anyway. Our cook was nice, but wasn't as fun as all the others around us. Again, we shrugged and didn't care that much since everyone was just so darn hungry!! The food was pretty good.... nothing special compared to all the other hibachi places I've been to. After dinner, we ordered a chocolate lava cake and it was very good as well! Overall, the service was just okay, and the hibachi food was about the same compared to many others I've been to. This was our first experience at an Ooka restaurant and were not that impressed. We figured we caught them on an off night and we decided we would give them another go in the future. read more

FULL DISCLOSURE: I've eaten at Ooka twice and gotten takeout once, and every time I've gotten a bento box lunch. So the scope of this review is slightly more narrow than I would like it to be. That said, I think Ooka is pretty delicious. The aforementioned bento boxes are filling and there's a ton of delicious things included: rice, meat, two slices of California roll, two pot-stickers (or dumplings), two tempura items, two chunks of candied sweet potatoes, plus a bowl of miso soup and a small salad. The green tea is smooth and buttery (although once it was too hot! I had to wait forever before I was able to start drinking it). The ambiance is nice, (fresh and clean-- very, um, Japanese, I understand), and the service even nicer. I'd like to go back for dinner and enjoy the teppanyaki cooking sometime, but if I'm stuck with bento boxes forever, that's okay, too. read more

Something has changed over at Ooka (Doylestown) - and not for the better. Ordered two rolls (to go) this evening (Yellowtail and Salmon) and they are inedible! Warm, soft and mushy. Not what I look for in my sushi. Unfortunately, we've been noticing over the last several months that the overall quality and freshness has gone down. Ooka used to be our main place for sushi in town...but after tonight...I think we'll drive the extra 10 minutes to Hachi. read more

The food was good as always - the service was not. We were seated right away but then waited 10 minutes before we were greeted by our waiter. He then took our orders, but brought appetizers before our drinks arrived. My wife's entree then arrived 10 minutes before mine. Never once did the waiter check back with us (I would have had at least one additional drink during dinner). Came here the other night to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and the service just about spoiled the whole dinner. The waiter, who was apparently new, and also working on a busy saturday night, got my boyfriend's order wrong despite writing it down in his order pad. They had to re-fire my boyfriend's dish, so I waited to eat until he had his dish, only when his dish finally arrived mine was stone cold so the manager now went to re-fire my dish. Being completely frustrated I told my boyfriend to just eat while I waited for mine to come out again. So he finished his meal before mine even came back out AND they had forgotten the soup and salad with the entrees, which I didn't even bother bring up because I wasn't trying to get the waiter in anymore trouble then he already was in with his boss. They were apologetic but after bring there for 2 and a half hours with us basically watching each other eat I was expecting more than just a sorry. Really shouldn't be having new staff working on busy weekends messing up 2 person tables. read more

I have been going here for years and years. I have never truly been a huge fan of Hibachi--accidents happen, and I never really want to be "entertained" when I am catching up with old friends or on a date. That being said, I have done the hibachi here and it is perfectly fine. I prefer to eat in one of the normal, sit down tables--very nice to have that option! The food is really good--I am addicted to their salad dressing for their side salad, as well as their sweet potato roll. The place is also really chic, especially for dinner. They redid the place a few years back and really made it look good--even the bathrooms are gorgeous. My favorite time to come is for lunch--they have great lunch choices at really great prices. I've gotten the bento box lunch and also the roll lunch. It is definitely my favorite place to get some Japanese food when I'm visiting the parents in dtown. read more
