Mala chicken, fried fish, stir fry mushrooms
Kathryn W.

While Joy Chalet may be known for their sushi, they also have really good stir fry dishes! They are reasonable priced, delicious and well-portioned. I got the mala fried chicken, which was my favorite dish (the szechuan peppercorns were sooo good). We also ordered fried fish and a mushroom stirfry. Everything was really tasty! They are doing takeout now so definitely go and check them out.

Alaska roll and Miso Soup
Melanie R.

I ordered takeout miso soup, Alaska roll, and pad Thai. It was ok. The miso soup was not very flavorful and not salty, but it had a lot of seaweed and tofu pieces. The sushi was good, big chunks of fish and avocado. The wasabi was barely spicy, unfortunately. I slabbed a whole chunk on one sushi piece and it barely phased me. I specifically asked for the pad thai to NOT have mushrooms and when I opened it, I discovered huge pieces of mushrooms and there were many more underneath. Disappointed as I do not like mushrooms so I ended up throwing them away and it didn't leave me happy about the dish. The noodles were spicy and there were some peppers, baby corn, and onions mixed in. Not enough salt. Perhaps this dish isn't their specialty or they had an off day. There are some people who are allergic to mushrooms so they should be careful and read the instructions. When I came in to pick up the order, I asked if they had included utensils and the lady at the front desk said no, that she thought I was taking this home. Why would you assume that? I was actually in between jobs and planned to eat at a park. Good thing I asked about utensils!

I was craving sushi and I also wanted a restaurant that offers sit-in since the weather has been super hot lately. Luckily this place has that! I ordered the sushi combo A and B. The rolls are California, salmon with avocado, tuna with avocado, shrimp tempura. Shrimp and avocado, and eel roll I think. I like combo B over A. I also ordered the salmon specialty roll that has seaweed and caviar. I forgot the name but it was an appetizer and I really enjoyed that. It was different compared to anything I had before. For the entree, I got the honey cook pork which comes with some vegetables and Chinese prunes. It was very good. The pork was flavorful and tender. I also ordered the minced pork with glass noodles. I enjoyed it as well. I'm glad I can support local businesses during this time. I recommend this place. The service is good as well!

The food was not so good. I sent my lunch back and the owner came out and yelled at me that I was wasting food .

Another double date with our foodie friend's pick…read more And wow what a pick! A beautifully decorated (both outside and inside) quaint restaurant, with a visible pizza oven. We shared a literally beautiful antipasto for an appetizer. It boasted fresh mozzarella balls, eggplant, artichokes, sweet red peppers, prosciutto, and olives. We had a good and soft loaf of bread with a yummy olive oil and balsamic dip too. Our meals were ALL tremendous! We had pasta dishes - gnocchi marsala and fettuccine with clams - EXCELLENT! I had plenty of sauce left to dip the soft bread into :) The other couple had octopus (appetizer) and seafood atop squid ink pappardelle pasta. They loved their dishes as well. Of course we didn't have room for dessert, but our chocolate wine and other wines were definitely sufficient. BYOB's are great and money saving. This place is a bit of a haul but I hope to get back in the future !

We had heard about La Voglia and decided to try it out! We went on a Friday evening and it wasn't…read moretoo crowded. The restaurant has a warm feel to it and is decorated nicely. They serve a delicious homemade bread that's warm when it's brought the table. In addition, it's accompanied by a dish of olive oil, with balsamic vinegar and what I believed to be a spicy dusting of pepper. It was a little too spicy for me - however, I did like the addition of the balsamic as a change from just olive oil. I would skip the pepper though, unless you like spice. We ordered the Polpette as an appetizer; it's a 'tradition' of mine. If meatballs are on the menu, I will always order them. These lamb, veal and beef meatballs were very good, and the marinara sauce they came in was excellent! The sauce is actually a 'roasted pomodoro' gravy - which is an 'intensified' version of a classic Italian sauce. It's made by roasting the tomatoes at a very high heat and almost caramelizing them. A little feta was added to the sauce, which really highlighted those meatballs!! We split the order - as 5 meatballs is quite a large appetizer! We decided to share two entrees - the Beef Short Ribs and the Lobster Ravioli. I always ask if the short ribs are lean - our server responded they were very lean...and they were. Soft, tender and very flavorful large chunks of beef, with a deliciously rich gravy with mushrooms on a bed a creamy garlic mashed potatoes! It was a superb dish! The website said the Short Ribs were the restaurant's most popular meal. Next, the Lobster Ravioli. The dish was a very 'delicate' one, with a very subtle brandy cream sauce. It had chopped jumbo shrimp and peeled cherry tomatoes with the raviolis. While the sauce tasted fine, it needed 'something' - we added pepper which helped. The raviolis were good - we couldn't taste lobster in the cheese of the raviolis - we assumed it was there. The chopped shrimps though provided a nice additional seafood flavor. I like my raviolis tender - the kind that almost melt in your mouth. The pasta here was firmer - a little more 'al dente', but it was fine. We ended our meal with the Chocolate Mousse. Served in a martini glass, the mousse had a velvety texture with a deep dark chocolate flavor. It was very rich yet light and fluffy; a good choice for dessert!

The food had both highlights and disappointments: * Lobster Ravioli: Tasted very good, although the portion was small. The sauce was flavorful and enjoyable. * Cioppino: This was the standout dish of the evening. It was loaded with delicious seafood, and while the pasta was slightly overcooked, it was still a very good meal. * Penne alla Vodka: The sauce was delicious and full of flavor. Unfortunately, the pasta was overcooked, but we still enjoyed the dish overall. * Caprese Salad: This was disappointing. The mozzarella balls tasted like they came straight from a container, the tomato wedges were not ripe, and instead of fresh basil there was a dark green paste-like topping. It did not taste fresh. * Chicken Parmigiana: This was the weakest dish we tried. The chicken was neither crispy nor particularly tender or flavorful, and the penne pasta was very soft and overcooked. Bread with olive oil was provided, but salads were not included and had to be ordered separately. Overall, this is a decent restaurant with excellent service and some very flavorful dishes, but consistency in the food and pasta preparation could be improved.
