    Salad with ginger dressing
    Deirdre C.

I was out with my 12 year old niece for the day. She picked this restaurant when I asked her where she's like to go for lunch. So this is where we went! It's very nice inside. My niece told me was redone recently. We sat in a booth and the person who waited on us was very nice. I enjoyed a salad with ginger dressing (I love that dressing!) and sushi and my niece had General Tso chicken. She loved it and was happy she had leftovers.

Asian Palace replaced Hong Kong Gourmet in the Richboro Shopping Center a couple of years ago. Same management, but definitely a positive makeover in the dining room and restrooms. The place looks sleek and Asian modern. The cuisine is also significantly improved, with use of higher quality ingredients that appear to have not been frozen before wokking. Beef, chicken, shrimp and flounder were tender and well realized. Our Salt & Pepper Fish was quite tasty and interestingly crisp and flavorful with good peppery finish. Similarly the Beef & Chicken in Orange Sauce was mildly sweet with green and red pepper picking up the amber sauce well. Maybe too much reliance on broccoli to fill the platter, but that is really a matter of cosmetics. Where the kitchen fell short was with their spicier dishes allegedly from the Szechuan recipe book. We found the Garlic Shrimp and Szechuan Chicken to have almost identical tastes, with both too light on the actual garlic and chile pepper content. We searched in vain for garlic cloves in the former and small red chiles or black star pepper in the later. Pretty to behold, but disappointing in realization. Service was friendly and well carried out. While overall a decent meal, the real issue comes from being a fusion house, and trying to be all things to all people. Far better to do only what you can do well without compromise. This palace was not prepared to deliver on true Szechuan cuisine, nor even a strong garlic dish. Better not to offer what you really can't deliver. 3.5 STARS PS. The Egg Rolls were excellent.

We were very happy to find out that the owner who sold our favorite, Chinese and Japanese restaurant had reopened at a new location! They are now in Richboro and we were welcomed into the beautiful new restaurant by Bruce like old friends, which is how he greeted many other former regulars as well. Service was wonderful as usual and the food was as good as always. Everyone is given a pot of tea and crispy noodles. Two of us had Sesame Chicken and the other had General Tso's Chicken. We were pretty hungry by the time we received our food so I didn't take photos of our entrees. Sorry!

    Menu

We have known Bruce ever since we moved into the Huntingdon Valley area in 2005. At that time he and his brother owned Asian Taste in the Justa Farm Shopping Center. Since the sale of Asian Taste, we were hoping that he would open up again in another spot. A chance meeting led to us being informed that he was opening up in an existing restaurant in Richboro. We eager to again dine on the dishes for which his Asian Taste was known for. Since reopening Sept15, 2023, we visited that weekend, and ordered our favorite dishes. We recognized a few of the staff from Asian Taste, and were warmly greeted. Our order consisted of Salt and Pepper Flounder Filets, Honey Walnut Shrimp and Chinese Eggplant in Garlic Sauce. The filets were crispy tender slices of flounder coated in a salt and fragrant pepper tossed with bits of onions and jalapeños. The Honey Walnut Shrimp is a sizeable mound of huge crispy prawns fried in a delicate coating, drizzled in a tangy sweet creamy sauce. The Eggplant was tossed with onions along with green and red peppers in a savory garlic brown gravy. All dishes ready were scrumptious and oh-so filling. The menu is quite extensive and we look forward to trying new dishes.

Unfortunately, bento box steak was chewy, dried out and could not eat it. Expected better for $30 since it is not a large portion. Chicken also dried out like it was sitting out too long or not quality. Sticky rice was pasty. Bang bang shrimp had too many shells and also over fried or dried out. Sushi rolls not plump like it use to be. Saturday night and sad to see tables were not turning over. At least "take out" looked busy. In fact, I called the restaurant twice at two different times and frustrating that no one answered the phone. When I arrived and asked if the phones were working I was told he is too busy to answer. Hmm. Not good. Our server was sweet and friendly but she disappeared when we needed her a few times. Spent too much time trying to flag her down. That took away from special conversation with friends. We were all fans of Oishi but not rushing back. I miss BYOB...however, at least they have a cork fee ($15) if you choose byob. On a good note they offer Happy hour till 6pm on Saturdays. And, it is a nice atmosphere.

Last night, I made up my mind that I was going to head out to the place he recommended. That was last night at Musashi in Trevose/Feasterville area. Now, before you gather up your crew to head over there, let me tell you, this place is TINY. But there's a reason for that. Read on! The decor of the place was so nice, with mixtures of Japanese knickknacks, t-shirts and lots and lots of books. It really felt like someone's home. Now, do keep in mind that this decors does take up spaces, but it really as to the ambiance of the space. There are signs that clearly state that if you are eating here, that the food will take some time to get to your table. I respect this. Good food should take time. That's what makes it worth the wait. Have I had bad meals? Yes. But all the ones I've had that were worth it, were worth waiting for. The waitress got me a table and was seated within 10 minutes of coming in. There was a clean menu and chopsticks already at the table. I asked for green tea, and she brought it promptly. When she came back to take my order, I ordered the Gyoza -- which were so succulent!, and the Charshu Pork Ramen bowl, which was just like I had in Japan. (Both pictured below) After I had paid, I got up and took some photos of the place. So homey, quiet, comfortable, as well as affordable and delicious. Usually depending on what restaurant you're at, Japanese food can be expensive. But not here! For what I had, the bill was $25.00! I was talking to the waitress, as the restaurant was getting ready to close, when one of the cooks came out with the broom. I immediately use my Japanese to let him know how much I loved his food. He bowed deeply, and asked me where did I learn Japanese. His face lit up when I told him I was teaching myself. We talked for a few minutes, he thank me for coming, and told me to come back. That, won't be a problem! This place gets 5 stars from me. The food was excellent, the service was prompt and the staff are willing to get to know their customers, which nowadays is really missing in many other restaurants. Mainly in the name of "efficiency". This place is an example of a restaurant being efficient, affordable and delicious.

Parking was easy to find, the lot is shared with the rest of the small strip mall anchored by a CVS. The young lady who took my order over the phone also greeted me when I entered. She was so nice, helpful and detailed when explaining the menu. The inside of the restaurant appeared clean and welcoming for dining in. They offer chilled and room temperature Chinese flavored waters, Japanese marble sodas, Thai tea, soda and sparkling water. My wife and kids wanted Chicken Teriyaki $10.75 - the lunch portion came with veggies and rice. The portion was small, but they all enjoyed the flavors and said the chicken was fresh. I had ordered the Shoyu Ramen (Chashu pork) Corn, nori, boiled egg, kikurage and scallion at $14.75. The noodles were a big glob and had to be broken up. The broth was spicy, delicious and made up for the noodles. The pork was two thinly sliced medallions that were juicy and flavorful. I made three bowls of soup with the portion, so it was plenty for a second/third meal. I also ordered the Yummy Yummy Roll off the special roll menu $14.75 - Shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado, salmon, eel sauce, spicy mayo & tobiko. It didn't hold together well and was ok/good. I would try another roll if I return. Their menu is pretty extensive with Japanese offerings of soups, salad, yakitori, sushi/sashimi, gyoza, hibachi meals, bento box meals, udon, ramen, etc. If I have a return trip I would eat in if having ramen, but the take out experience was good. I'll say it again the young lady working there was patient and an absolute pleasure to deal with! Thanks guys!

You can see where the ramens went up $4-9 dollars per bowl! And if you build your own it's worse, they're charging $1.50 for a tablespoon of green onions on your bowl!??? They've lost their minds. We also ordered the "crispy chicken" for the ramen, and I have to say I did not know a piece of chicken could be pounded this flat. If you held it up you'd be able to see through it. I added a photo, there can't be more than 1/3 of a chicken breast pounded so flat it's unrecognizable as meat. Also we were both absolutely CONVINCED they're watering down the soy sauce. I've had Asian all over the world, I've been traveling and eating in Japan since 2005...I have never seen any soy sauce this watery, thin, and transparent. Absolutely pathetic. As for their food, the General Tso's was a good portion, not spicy even though I asked for it spicy and overall it was typical for most places. I would order it again, but my regular spot is better. The Teriyaki chicken smelled wonderful, was a good portion, but the chicken was a little chewy with poor texture. It came with a small miso soup that was good. The pork lo mein gave my wife a headache. They use MSG here. I had the leftovers and again just ordinary lo mein. Their house broth in the wonton soup is darker and possibly a beef broth.
