OOKA is one of our favorites. We always do the Hibachi experience and it's always been great. All sitting around the hibachi grill, the chef in the middle putting on a show with knives and fire and humor, always fun. But the food is what makes it. Usually get the scallops (best I've ever had) and steak, along with fried rice, veggies and noodles. All cooked in front of you and all delicious. Usually take a bottle of 2 of wine along. read more

We chose this restaurant because it was 4 mins away from our hotel. I'm not sure if this is handicap accessible... so When you get up the steps, the hostess will ask if you want hibachi or the regular tables. We chose hibachi which was on the left side of the restaurant. It was very tight seating for us as we were the last people to sit at the table. My baby sat in the high chair at the corner. It was sooo cramped. If one person on the inside needs the bathroom we'd all have to get up and move for them. We had to pass the drinks and soups down to the people sitting on the inside. Our hibachi chef was good, he was funny. No one wanted sake at our table so he asked my baby if she wanted water and squirt it at her mouth using the pee boy toy. Mostly got on her chin and shirt. It was funny, everyone laughed and the baby got a balloon goat right after. Our chef was the cool one with the music and disco ball with fire on his head when he arrived. The lobster, scallop, shrimp and beef were good. The chicken was breast meat and my family didn't enjoy it. The rice was too hard and the noodles were too salty. We couldn't eat the rice and we tried our best to eat the noodles. The hibachi seating area was extremely smoky . Their vents were weak and there was only one or two. It was not enough to suck out all the smoke. They needed more industrial vents, like the ones at Korean bbq's. They also had issues with the cc that night so it was either. Pay with cash or they took down your cc information and texted the receipt to you that night after their machine was back up. Overall we will not be doing hibachi again. Maybe we will do the other side for the sushi meal at the regular tables. It was too uncomfortable for us and the family regretted hibachi. read more

This place is a hidden gem. With lightning-fast service and excellent sushi, OOKA is a cut above your average date night sushi spot. Tellingly, not only are they not, "temporarily out of uin," but their uni is fresh, decadent, and generously portioned when I ordered it a la carte. Went tonight for a birthday dinner and the experience was amazing from the food, ambience, service, we had an incredible time. Great vibe for a dinner for two. We ordered the oysters, otoro special with caviar and gold leaf, the sashimi deluxe, the salmon tasting, james bond roll, hana to haru roll, and some nigiri: king salmon, baby yellowtail, red snapper, and seared eel avocado. The otoro, sashimi were the highlights of the night along with the oysters and james bond roll. Otoro quality was great and the james bond roll was a great combination of crab and seared salmon. The sashimi pieces were thick, fresh, and tender. The haru no hana roll was thicker than expected and the skin wasn't quite for me. Additionally, the eel avocado nigiri came with some tartar sauce I didn't need. The salmon tasting has mild differences and I would stick to their regular salmon next time, fun to try once. The hot fudge chocolate cake was a perfect end, warm and not too sweet, fudgy and more on the cakey side. I appreciated that the ice cream was very cold and didn't melt immediately like most other cases. Our waitress was energetic, attentive, and amazing overall. Love the freshness of the sushi at Ooka! I went at lunchtime, so I got the sushi and sashimi lunch, which included soup, salad, salmon roll, 2 each of tuna and salmon sashimi, and 3 pieces of sushi. It was so good! I also tried the shishito peppers on the appetizer menu, and those were great as well. I definitely would recommend Ooka! read more

Hibachi is alive and well at Ooka! It's been years and years since we had it because we gave up looking for a place that was fun plus had delicious food. We found it The staff were all friendly and our "Chef" was both talented with his cooking and also with all the gymnastics he goes through to get the food from the cooking surface to your plate - even sometimes bypassing the plate and going directly into your mouth! The menu is varied and you have a nice choice of items. You start out with Miso Soup and a salad and then the chef takes over. We had items from delicious and tender steaks to lobster, shrimp and scallops. Fantastic Fried Rice, delicious noodles and Vegetables are also included. Was in the mood for a sushi lunch so we came to this recommended establishment that is known for their hibachi. It was a weekday and mid day with a decent amount of people there for the lunch hour. The non hibachi side was nicely decorated with modern Asian American decoration. I tried tuna tar tar for the first time and I was hooked. The chunks of raw tuna were so flavorful and the texture was amazing. My mouth is watering thinking about it. The signature sushi rolls that we had were also amazing. We had lunch at Ooka today and it was perfect. We started with the pork gyoza and they were delicious. The wrapper was thin and a bit crispy on one side with a very good pork filling. I could have eaten two orders of those (they come 6 to an order). Next, we had a green salad. I wish the salad had more ginger dressing. We got the Triple A Roll and I believe the other was called Hot and Spicy Roll. They were both excellent. Staff was friendly, restaurant is very clean and food is delivered to table quickly. To try something different, we got the Japanese Fruit Sodas. It's a bit of a fun puzzle figuring out how to open them. They were very sweet, so we poured them over our ice water and it was just right. For dessert, the creme brulee is served in two ramekins and is just right for sharing. read more

This is my local "go to " for Hibachi, the atmosphere is very cosy, the servers are pleasant efficient and on the ball. The cuts of meat are high quality and the Hibachi chefs have a good rapport and a sense of humor. Ooka = Wowwe Salmon Tasting - I was looking to try a different item from my usual go to sashimi choices and this item was the perfect selection. Five different kinds of Salmon including a very pricy King Salmon as one of the samplings. What I loved about this dish as well is each piece was garnered with seasonings that any top class chef would give their blessing in regard to flavors used to enhance the sashimi. Yes, this item comes in at $20.00 but you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to sushi and I can sign off that this menu item hits the mark. Striped Bass Sushi - Fresh and delish. Two per order as all Sushi restaurants pretty much conform to. Eel Avocado Sushi - Fresh and even more tasty then the Bass. Gotta get me some Eel any Sushi restaurant I encounter. Lobster Miso Bisque - I am not sure what they do to the main piece of seafood that is in this soup which I have captured in a snap shot but it is one of the most tasty if not tastiest piece of seafood I have had all year. Only one piece in the whole soup but it looks like a shrimp toast but most likely a Lobster seafood piece that is just o so perfect. Would I be off my rocker to order two of these soups just to get more of those delicious seafood pieces hmm...food for thought. Shrimp Shumai - I get this every time out and they were very fresh. Really impressed with how fresh all there items were on a Tuesday order. Hoping they are consistent every time you come but this is a step up from the normal sushi place imo so your going to be forking over more dollars. $51.00 was my bill but I needed some self love and this sure did help. The food here taste like shit... got the lobster roll and then cheese sushi rolls all of it. Taste like nasty shit.

We normally love this restaurant, and go there frequently. Unfortunately, our experience on Father's Day was less than acceptable. After waiting over half an hour for our reservation to be seated, the food took an extremely long time and was not it's normal quality at all. The server disappeared because the food was taking over an hour for our sushi rolls. I don't know that will be returning again anytime soon as a result of the poor quality and service. read more

In my many years of going to Ooka - in Doylestown - I never went to the Willow Grove location until tonight. We had excellent service by Lynn (sp?) and the 2 of us enjoyed sushi and chicken katsu (very crisp and a large portion. Same menu as Doylestown - but this location is BYOB (no alcohol served). The hibachi area was teeming with families with small kids who LOVED watching the teppanyaki chef. Not cheap - but not horribly expensive either. A decent spot for Japanese food. Parking lot is laid out very weirdly - so be careful. It's an accident waiting to happen. read more

Liked the vibe of this place. Was crowded but they were able to seat us quick on a Friday night. My son really enjoyed his sushi. Wife's Chicken Yakitori was fine. Nothing to get excited about. I had the sushi roll with Maine lobster and mango in it. It was tasty but a bit over-sauced. Worst part of the experience was after they cleared each table, they used a pungent cleaner to wipe it down, which was very unpleasant. Probably not something that should be used around food or people eating. Just when it would dissipate, they would wipe down another table and it would start over again. A wet rag would probably have done the job. read more

Went to Ooka for lunch special for the first time and I was impressed by the quality, the visual, + taste! Went on a Wednesday around noon and there was no although there were a good number of people. We got seated and was given a menu and was asked what we would like to drink. For food we ordered the sushi & sashimi lunch special ($15) and the lunch bento box with angus NY steak teriyaki ($19?) Both of these lunch specials came with miso soup + a side salad which was great! Then came our meals which were quite good too! The sushi sashimi was 3 pieces of sushi (chefs choice), 5 pieces of sashimi (chefs choice but mine was tuna, salmon, + 1 other), and a salmon roll. It was really good as they did not skimp on the fish at all. The sashimi pieces were thick and so was the salmon in the salmon roll. I especially enjoyed the 3 pieces of sushi as they were delicious even though I didn't know what they were.. all 3 just melted in my mouth yummm The lunch bento came with 2 pieces of California roll, the NY steak, rice, shrimp/broccoli tempura, gyoza, and some sweet potato sticks. It was really good and just the perfect amount for a lunch portion. Service was great, staff was very friendly and helpful! I've been on the hunt for good sushi without having to schlep in the city. Let me tell you, this is not good sushi. It is great sushi. It is fresh, and the takeout menu is pretty vast and eclectic with something for everybody. I ordered a salmon skin roll, spicy tuna, James Bond roll, and a garden salad with ginger dressing. Everything was fresh and spectacular. Flavorful, and did not disappoint. My favorite roll was hands down the James Bond Roll with the spicy crab and salmon. It was a burst of flavor with every bite. The one star review is solely based on service. One week before our date to dine we made reservations for 7 PM a party of 10. Two days later we received the call stating that for a party of 10 we were only able to accommodate a reservation at 8:30., okay. We arrive at 8:15 and was told "we're running a little behind schedule and you will be seated it approximately 8:45." At 8:40 my sister-in-law went to the restaurant and they said that it still would be another 15 minutes because they're clearing out a large party. So we are outside in our cars watching several table side wagyu meals being prepared, exciting, but wait for it! 15 minutes later a few of us go inside and they told her our reservation was for 8:30 and we didn't show up but they will accommodate us. EXCUSE ME! So we all come in, they see us and begin to scramble we are almost immediately seated. Too many people in the doorway? Now we are seated and ready to order. What no wagyu beef? What the heck?!! At this point we just order as most of us were tired and hungry. The server was efficient and the food good with fair prices. I don't know what the deal is but, if a Steakhouse can't offer their specialty/signature dish they're not worth my time or a positive review. It's not always the case race plays a factor we were the only people of color in the restaurant. I'm just saying but you make the call! Would I return? Mediocre food, worse service from the tableside chefs I've been to dozens of similar Japanese steakhouses around the country and it's my second visit here. If prepared well, the food is worth the $$$. Tonight was very poor. Example- 5 people at our table ordered the filet steak, ranging from rare to medium. The bored looking chef cooked them all together- all medium to well done! In contrast, the noodles and rice was barely cooked, along with a meager portion of veggies. Big thumbs and shout out to ooka for hosting a party of 24! Recently had a wedding rehearsal dinner and they were very accommodating! I haven't been here since the pandemic started but it's just as good as I remembered. I had to reserve the place in a month advance but, still having the ability to accommodate 20+ was impressive especially for hibachi. The group had a lot of fun; staff did the best they can to attend you the big group. The hibachi chefs were very entertaining ava engaging; made the entire night. The only thing is I wish my chef would have distributed the food a bit better... Some got a lot more, some got a lot less, others just what they ordered. But again... 2 chefs were serving 11-12 people at once. I was impressed that they didn't forget anyone's order. The restaurant serves delicious food, good entertainment, and good service. What else can you ask for? I'd imagine they be even better serving a smaller group of people. The only big piece of advice I would give us to car pool if you're coming as a group cause parking lot is tiny and it's a hot mess getting in and out. read more

A FABULOUS night out at Ookas. Service (Ann) was spectacular, our meals both picturesque platings and so incredibly fresh and what awesome textures and the flavor far exceeded expectations. Doesn't get better than at Ookas, you just have to know what you like and how to order; rely on your server for assistance as that is one of the key reasons they are there. After discussing the night's specials and reviewing the menu we spoke with Ann to get her take on how we wanted to structure our meal. For this visit we opted to stick with appetizers and rolls which we shared; hence no entree. In the end, it was a perfect selection, ordering, and experience. Now to get your mouth watering.... for our first course, we started with the tuna bites --- roasted pistachio, spicy tuna bite with mango salsa. Definitely something different and boy the plating presentation was spectacular. What a great flavor coaster.... you taste the crushed pistachios, followed by the tuna and on the back end you get a little kick from the mango salsa. Satisfying to the palette. For our second course, my wife had the lobster bun- Boston fresh Maine lobster with house cream sauce served in a split bun and wrapped in Boston lettuce all served in a martini glass. Very pretty presentation and tasty too. I had the grilled octopus and I must say, this was one of the top 2 octopus dishes I've ever had and I seek it out high and low; hands down this recipe delivers a wonderful combination of flavors. Grilled octopus tentacles served over a bed of salad greens with halved cherry tomatoes in a pomegranate reduction that was to die for. For our third course, we shared the Earth/Sea Roll- a special roll, (couldn't find on their online menus so I'll do my best to describe) outside is perfectly cooked filet mignon wrapped around the rice exterior of the roll which was filled with mango, cucumber, topped with roe, (I'm embarrassed that I can't recall the fish in the roll) with white truffle sprinkled on the plate. This roll delivers a festival of flavors and textures. Can't say excellent experience enough times. read more
