I don't recommend getting the Hibachi here. The minute we sat down we were extremely rushed by the server - asking us every 3 minutes to order before we even had our jackets off. I asked him politely if he could give us 5 minutes as we hadn't even looked at the menu to which he said we needed to order faster because they had upcoming reservations (we were not late for our reservation by the way). Once we ordered, they rushed through the hibachi as well This honestly felt very transactional and not like an enjoyable Friday evening meal at all. I've been here quite a few times and never really thought about writing a review because everything I feel has been said in previous reviews. It's expensive for what you get and the quality is either hit or miss. Service is ok, not particularly awesome, but not terrible. My kid gets ramen all the time and he seems to like it. I decided to write this review after getting the Chilean Sea Bass bento box lunch. While the portion size of the Sea Bass was good, the rest of the box seemed a bit...small. Comparatively, Hachi's bento box is overflowing with food. Overall, I only come to Ooka if my kid wants ramen and we're in the area...otherwise it's a hard pass for me. read more

Great sushi, nice atmosphere but VERY noisy on early Saturday nights with kids screaming and walking around, birthday parties, Hibachi entertainment with flames shooting into the air, etc; Go another night and it will be completely different atmosphere. They started you off with a hot scented towel so you could refresh yourself before you start your meal. I ordered the grilled Young Octopus with arugula salad, balsamic pomegranate reduction, cherry tomato and wasabi salt for my appetizer. The octopus was very tender and had a nice grilled flavor. The salad was fresh and tasty. Then ate Seafood To- Ban. It had one Lobster tail, shrimp, spinach and lemon -garlic jus. This dish was also grilled and served in a hot frying pan. It was also good, however, I thought it could had more fish for the price( 4 shrimp, 4 Scallops and a small lobster tail) All meals come with soup and salad . Excellent Food Quality, Flavor, Presentation! We came here with a party of 6 people for my daughters 18th birthday. We are not big fans of sitting at the hibachi seats at Japanese steak houses so we opted for a dining room table. We made a reservation and our table was ready upon arrival. Service = (A-) The only slight mark on service was that he served us with so much speed which was in order to accommodate us but at times we weren't done asking for things and he would already have hustled off. In general the menu knowledge, greeting and farewell at the door, team food running, manager table visit... all the elements of top notch. Atmosphere = (A) Beautiful fish tank (spotless and clear) at front door, immaculate environment, not decorated too much, it felt slightly higher end but not enough that you were uncomfortable in casual. (Jeans and a sweater felt like the perfect attire. (families and upscale clientele also fit in just fine.) Food = (A+) Fried Calamari and Shumai Appetizer excellent. Not the normal mid level dining fried apps. High end thoughtful quality. Shumai were some of the best that I have had. Miso Soup and Salad with the common ginger dressing was OK and just a filler. Then the awesome meals showed up. Shushi Rolls to die for, Sashimi and Sushi Entree was a generous portion and the chef chose the freshest fish. We also had hot entrees... Scallop dish my wife had was mouthwatering. There was a sushi roll on that had cucumber outer wrapping that was incredible. Good cocktail and liquor options (not too many options, just right). Had an awful experience here tonight. The waiter was awful. He rushed us the whole time. Didn't give us anytime to order anything. The hibachi chef was great. We all tipped him. When the final bill came, which was close too $500 this guy hawked over us and made sure that we also tipped him even though he forgot everything. He didn't get us the right soup, rice, or drinks. I am EXTREMELY disappointed in this restaurant !!! I started going to Ooka over 25-30 years ago and I watched it grow from the little restaurant it was to the business it is today! Benny and Lenny and their then girlfriends were always wonderful but it is loosing what they were big time! The last 5-6 times I was there my order was wrong! Tonight I ordered 3 orders of Salmon sushi Ala carte and 1 salmon roll. They quoted me $25. I just didn't want the soup/salad. For $9 less I ordered the salmon sushi dinner with no Soup/salad. They should have matched the price. I asked them to please make sure there is no wasabi but I wanted ginger and soy sauce. I mentioned to the person on the phone to please make sure my order is correct since my last 5-6 times there my order has been wrong. I have worked in the restaurant business for years and I never not tip! When the order was picked up they gave me 12 soy sauces and 2 chopsticks!!! Just out right disrespectful!!! My brother took my order and the 12 soy sauces in and asked if it was appropriate? They wanted the soy sauces back after he told them it was contaminated and they said it was ok and they can still use it. Obviously, the person laughing is the the rude employee who did what they did! I find it appropriate to post my first ever review on Yelp! 5 stars all around! The restaurant -beautiful ,elegant, simple. The service - attentive, helpful , humorous. The food - absolutely delicious. A group of 5 of us decided on a sushi dinner and we could not have found a better place to splurge. All the fish were fresh and delicate, each dish better than the last. The calamari is an absolute must, and the vegetable gyoza was perfection. And just when we thought we were too full, dessert menus were on their way. With how amazing the meal was, we couldn't pass up trying the top favorites like the creme brulee and fried ice cream- top notch. Yesterday I had an amazing date night with my hubby here! We started with some tasty cocktails. I got a Titos dirty martini, which was made perfectly and my husband ordered one of their specialty cocktails which was very good. We started with the crispy salmon skin salad and the shiitake mushroom salad. Both were great but I preferred the mushroom salad. We then moved on to the James bond roll and the lobster dynamite roll. Dynamite indeed! Both were some of the best sushi rolls I have ever had! I highly recommend having a reservation. This was my husband & my first time experience at Ooka. We have heard about it for years but never had the opportunity to go. My husband started eating sushi more recently so he suggested we go. Our server was fantastic. He was very attentive & had a great sense of humor. That's a plus when you are serving my husband!! We had edamame & shrimp dumplings for appetizers. Really amazing high quality sushi. Been here a few times for dinner. Most recently just last weekend (Oct 2020). Ooka is very good at following social distancing rules. The indoor was set up with people seated very far from each other. I noticed many tables were not used to allow for that. They also have a tent with heaters. I will say that weather should be considered. While we were there the temp dropped to 40 degrees and personally, even with the heating lamp right behind me, I was freezing my butt off. Anyway, as for the food - everything we tried, appetizers and a bunch of different rolls was spectacular, fresh tasty and inventive. Bonus points for delicious Uni. I love uni but am hesitant in ordering it. Sometimes it can taste really funky. The uni here was very fresh (I had the sushi roll with quail egg on top). They also offer California live uni at $28 a pop. Would have loved to try it but we were splitting a check with a couple and I felt guilty. Will updated once I do. Service - absolutely top notch. This is the story of how I spent nearly 40 minutes in this restaurant without trying a single drink or eating a bite of food.... My boyfriend and I along with another couple had an 8 o'clock reservation and we showed up five minutes early. The woman told us to wait at the bar which we happily did as we thought we could get a drink and just wait for a table. We sat at the bar for 10 minutes talking anticipating the bartender to come over to us after trying to make eye contact and smiling at him he still continued to walk back-and-forth without even approaching us or saying a word. After five more minutes I stopped the bartender and asked if we could order a drink please to which he grabbed a menu threw it down on the bar and walked away. It's now 8:20 and we still don't have our table or a drink because we were seemingly invisible. 8:25 we were told we could sit down at the hibachi table which we did hoping to be able to order a drink and apps as we were starving. After waiting another 5-7 minutes a woman comes over with water we ask her if we can order food and drinks she says sure but not from me... then we ask her how long it will be to the chef comes over. She said we have to wait for the rest of the hibachi table to fill up we tried to tell her that we had an 8 o'clock reservation and she said oh it'll be about a half an hour. At this point we kindly told her that we would not be eating at the restaurant and we left passing a restaurant full of people enjoying their drinks and food seeming to have a great time while we were 4 invisible people really sad about our experience. *it's the night before Christmas Eve so we knew places would be crowded* We've been to Ooka several time and always have a good experience there. The food is always good, servers attentive. Tonight we had a 615 reservation and were out by 705. The restaurant was packed to the gills and the whole "experience" of dinner was completely washed away. Every Hibachi table was full, my husband and I were seated at the end spots and a customer tried to pass through behind him, the woman sitting behind my husband literally turned around and said "it's his fault", please keep in mind both of our seats were pushed as close to the table as possible and hers was almost in the middle of the isle. Again, we're not ignorant to the fact it's a holiday weekend however, when you go to dinner and expect an experience and get the "fast food experience" it's disheartening.
