Very unique ice cream! Was not expecting to like this place but went with my girlfriend anyways and honestly was surprised by how good it tasted. Service was okay, the girl behind the counter didn't say much but was kind. Love the vibe of the restaurant though, very low light / neon greenery vibes. Not a vegan ice cream guy but honestly will probably comeback at some point.

This was a tiny ice cream shop located in a small plaza Parking was limited since their parking lot didn't have many spots and the lot is shared with a few other businesses. However, there is street parking available Service was friendly and welcoming. Pricing was a little expensive. Expect to pay $9 for a scoop of ice cream and matcha/coffee drinks were $4-$7 Got the Ube & Thai Tea Soft Serve ($9) - the ice cream was very sweet and creamy. The flavor of ube was quite subtle. For $9 for a scoop of ice cream, I would have expected it to have a richer ube flavor. The Thai Tea was just as disappointing and couldn't taste the flavor of Thai tea at all. This was 6/10 The Oynx Coconut ($9) was very sweet and didn't have much of a coconut flavor. It was extremely black so expect to have a black tongue after! This was 6/10 Most likely won't return or recommend unfortunately.

When visiting my son in Arizona the first thing I said was where are we eating? Surprising the first thing he said was ice cream at ONYX ice cream. After eating Ramen at Mensho this was only a minute walk away as it is the same complex. There are a few more restaurants in this complex and I recommend having dessert here after dinner. The inside had a cool vibe with neon lights and a digital menu board. All of the flavors are soft serve and they rotate flavors. They have something unique here which I never saw before. There is an option of getting your cone torched for only $2! I was extremely interested and the young lady working here described what it was and I was sold. She bastes the cone with marshmallow and then hits it with the torch. I paired this with the Ube ice cream and it was a great combination. There is some seating in the shop and we ate here. I really enjoyed my Ube with the torched cone and would come back here. My son was also correct that this was my favorite bite during my short trip to Phoenix!

Been going here for the past few months and it has been consistently good. Their ube js one of the best in the valley imo. The texture is also really nice. Their menu does have rotation from time to time from yuzu to thai tea and I recommend asking for a sample.

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon while out doing a little bit of shopping. I saw this spot had some unique ice cream flavors and black ice cream cones, so we wanted to try it out. The Ube/Onyx Coconut swirl was a delicious flavor combo, the ice cream itself was just the right consistency and really hit the spot on a hot day. The cones were a bit hard, so I think if we stop by again three our of the four of us would get a cup instead. The addition of adding on toasted marshmallows is a nice touch, it smelled great and my mom loved it on her cone. My daughter tried the sea salt. It was pretty tasty as well, the salt wasn't overpowering. The décor inside is fun & cozy, when we stopped by there was no one else there so we had our choice of seating.

The soft serve here is very good but I wasn't super in love with the iced onyx matcha I'd gotten (though it came highly recommended by the server). It was very floral-y and kind of bitter. The matcha flavors didn't come through very well for my tastes. Would come back for ice cream if I was in the area! If you're sensitive to food dyes or colorings you may want to avoid this place though!

ONYX Ice Cream is serving up unique and flavorful ice cream in the Phoenix area. This spot is located in a smaller plaza with some parking spots. There is also additional street parking and parking in nearby lots as well. Inside, they have a colorful and modern setup with a couple tables for seating. For their menu, they have their current ice cream flavors along with some drink options too. Wifey and I stopped by to briefly escape the AZ heat and opted for the Ube + Onyx Coconut Ice Cream with the Toasted Marshmallow Blackened Cone. Overall, we enjoyed the light and refreshing flavors of the ice cream. This was a great place to come grab a sweet treat to escape the heat for a while. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Make sure to stay connected with their social media to see when they rotate and introduce different flavors!

This place was fun, I really loved the colorful, modern decor around the shop. I came here with a friend on a Tuesday evening, and we were the only ones there. The owner was there and answered all of our questions and made some recommendations too! I decided to try the Thai Tea and Ube combined flavors. I also got the burnt marshmallow topping on the cone and that was really delicious! The ice cream was good! I also ordered the saguaro flavored ice cream to go, which was dairy free and that was actually my favorite flavor! There was a courtyard outside where people could hang out. Parking was available out front, but it might be harder to find parking when it's busier. Can't wait to come back!

5 stars for the yummiest ice cream! Great new spot offering unique flavors such as UBE! My Hawaiian roots were so excited -- I love ube (purple yam) in desserts! We also tried the coconut, saguaro, and sea salt flavors -- all were delicious! The saguaro and sea salt swirl was bright and refreshing. The ube and coconut swirl was super creamy and comforting. The colors of the ice cream are so much fun and absolutely instagram-worthy (including their cute shop itself). Service was very kind and quick. Will be visiting again for sure!

Amazing service and delicious ice cream. We arrived around 3:30pm and it wasn't too busy inside but then a huge group arrived after us and really crowded us out. It made waiting/ordering super uncomfortable because both the kids and the adults did not understand personal space. The inside is super cool with funky 80s electric vibes. The space is super small, felt like a hallway closet. Needs a better line system. I ordered the ube and coconut swirl in a cone with toasted marshmallow fluff on the cone. The cone was so unique and so good. Really complimented the ice cream. The Ube x coconut was good but really cancelled out each other's flavors. My husband got just the Ube and I'd go with a single flavor. I would come back because the flavors are so unique.

For those sweet tooth lovers in the area, try this new ice cream spot! They gave free parking in the lot and the owner is super nice. He walked us through the different flavors and I learned they rotate the flavors weekly! I believe they also showcase a new flavor each month which I'm all about. There's also some picnic blankets in a shelf near the back door if you want to sit in their super cute shaded outdoor area. Now let's talk about flavors. I'm sure you want to know... was it worth it? Yes! We tried the coconut and ube twisted flavors. Now I'm a huge ube fan and coconut fan. These flavors were spot on! The saguaro (pink color) was the best!!! Almost tasted like a light sorbet. A little tart but it was balanced well with the sea salt (the blue ice cream). The music today was a vibe too! It was a variety of everything so it hit the mark for us.

I just stumbled upon this place while walking back from the Ramen restaurant nearby. I wasn't necessarily craving something really sweet and I was so pleasantly surprised that Onyx ice cream consisted of really flavorful but not extremely sweet ice cream. It's right up my alley since I am the person that prefers tart soft serve over really sweet desserts. This Ube soft serve was absolutely fantastic. I've never had anything like it the black cone and I have no idea what it's made of, but it just rounds out the flavor perfectly. If I am ever in the area again, I will definitely be returning because this dessert was very memorable. 10/10 would recommend The owner was also very nice and even asked how we heard about the place. 10 out of 10. read more

Wow! We just popped by after dinner down the street and boy glad we did...it's soft serve homemade at its finest. Told the owner Jon to give us his fav and it was absolutely awesome. The cones are a black waffle cone he dipped in marshmallow then torched and filled with heavenly colors: pink, plum and dark purple. First of all, I wasn't even asked for my order when I arrived and just stood there. Matcha was not ceremonial although the menu online stated their matcha was ceremonial grade. The powder was a very slight green and tasted worse than Starbucks matcha. Worst matcha I've ever had, tasted like grass and I have had plenty of good matcha in the state. It was way too expensive for the taste. I asked for no ice and only half the drink was filled up with barely any matcha in it. This place should not be stingy with bad matcha. Stopped in while checking out restaurants in the plaza and this place is one of the best ice cream joints you'll find. Small number of flavors done extremely well. Being from New England, I am a big fan of soft serve, which is difficult to find in Phoenix. While DQ has it, it isn't the same delicious taste that I grew up with. On a whim, I Googled "soft serve". Onyx was a result, and I decided to give it a try. WOW WOW WOW!!! This was the most inspired, inventive, delicious, and visually appealing soft serve i have ever had! I had ube and onyx coconut: the ube a gorgeous lavender color, and the coconut was black, and they were served in a black waffle cone that was delicious. I am blown away, and cannot wait to go back. The only thing not to like here is the limited seating, luckily there's a whole courtyard through the back door. We went twice in the same week, and we don't live in central phoenix - so it was on purpose, that's how good them experience is! The roasted marshmallow on the cone is a really fun, and delicious, surprise. There are only 4 flavors in the machine at a time. Did not stop me from ordering the same thing twice. You can also buy pints. Overall, highly recommend. read more

This place is amazing! We came here after going to dinner at Mensho. We all got different flavors. The ube flavor was fantastic. The owner said the always have a vegan option which is great for my daughter who has a dairy allergy. They even have blankets to use to take outside for an ice cream picnic on the lawn out back. Super cool 80's vibe interior. I can't have dairy so I love coming here with the kids. They always have neat flavors and their non dairy option is always super tasty. They also use good quality ingredients so you don't feel wrecked later. The owner has always been the one dishing out the treats and he's very nice and he doesn't rush you at all. Established in 2024.

The dessert landscape in Arizona has a lot of the same thing being done over and over, in different packaging. We wanted to bring a fresh look, feel, and taste that you can't find anywhere else. The concept of ONYX was build on three pillars or uniqueness: 1) Unique presentation - vibrantly colorful soft serve, served on black cones, and in a space carefully curated to a modern 80s/sythwave vibe 2) Unique offerings - from our ice cream flavors (Ube, Yuzu, Saguaro, Candy Cap Mushroom, etc), to our freshly torched marshmallow cone upgrades and espresso/matcha affogatos, to our coffee bar (cloud matcha, house iced latte - made with coconut water and cinnamon) 3) Unique quality - small batch, made in house, using local organic milk & cream and fruit purees. This delivers an elevated luxurious and creamy experience, alongside a true third wave coffee bar, with hand crafted espresso, using beans from a small local roaster
