Awesome hole in the wall dive bar! Not going to lie we thought we'd be seriously out of place. Walking around Williamsburg you get the "hipster" vibe everywhere. My husband and I are clearly not apart of that group. The location is off the beaten path and dark/dingy on the outside and inside, but it totally goes with the theme of the place. Everything inside is Canadian themed even down to the music in the jukebox that plays. Beer was $4 and if you're a sucker for shot/beer specials this is the place to be. The bartender was super friendly and even did a shot with us. They weren't super busy even though it was a Friday night, so she chatted with us in between serving other patrons. They also had arcade games and an air hockey table. We felt so comfortable and everyone made us feel like we had been there before. If you're in the area I'd recommend stopping in to grab a drink and enjoy yourself a good Canadian beer and some fun music read more

Racist bar. I saw another person post this to describe this place and I was relieved to find out I was t imagining it. The first time I went in I showed my ID and Vax Ordered my drink. the bartender gave me water. I didn't dispute and drank it as I wondered how she could read my intoxication level that the doorman (who is black) missed. He even came in and asked what was wrong and I declined to cause conflict. At 3:45 she finally gave me a drink and screamed to finish a shot and beer in 5 minutes. If I was so drunk then why then encourage me to chug a shot and beer ? The next time I went in a different bartender, after a few drinks I told her this story and also drinking my asked why she didn't check my id with the vax card. when I returned yesterday she lectured me on how uncomfortable I made her and her co worker feel. Two white women complaining about how uncomfortable my presence made them uncomfortable them. the black door man asked me if I had started a fight or something I told him no. He obviously couldn't couldn't understand how my behavior constituted the persecution on both instances. This is a classic case of white women doing their thing, claiming fragility to villainize me a black woman. I know white men go in there and do much worse than what I have done which is nothing. I walked in and was immediately treated like an enemy. racist place. If your white u shouldn't have a problem enjoying a drink. read more

They changed the tip on my receipt and overcharged me. Wasn't an accident because I had two tabs and it happened on both. Annoying that I'm going to have to dispute this with my bank now. read more

Stumbled upon this bar last Saturday after hanging out at some of the other local bars in the area expecting to just have a quick drink before ending the night. What was supposed to be a quick drink and a restroom stop turned into over an hour of laughs with the bartenders and other patrons! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, it was hard to leave! John our bartender was great and provided top notch service! The ginger ale in my drink seemed flat, and when I brought it to his attention he did not argue me once (like some do) but simply tasted it himself and apologized saying that they had issues earlier with the drink gun. He asked if I would like something else but before I could even decide, he told me to hold on and walked out the bar. Moments later he returned with a liter of ginger ale and proceeded to make me a new drink. If that's not top level service, I don't know what is! read more

I've never been to Canada, so I can't really comment on the legitimacy of the Ontario theme, but the bartenders are friendly, the drinks are fairly priced and there's a pool table. There are also a few pinball machines and an air hockey table in the back. I would be hesitant to call this place a dive bar, at least in terms of the odor and aesthetic. I'm guessing the bartenders pick the music because it seems to vary depending on who is working, which is probably the biggest drawback of this particular watering hole. Sometimes the music is great and sometimes it's horrendous. The place has a laid back and unpretentious vibe. Some of the other bars on Grand have a more divey feel, but I prefer the bartenders here. read more

Terrible, dirty place with VERY rude staff. AVOID at all cost. There are so many bars that are much better in the area.

Terrible, slow service. Bartender was obnoxiously sexual any time she served males and ignored female patrons. Took forever to get a new drink unless she was the group she was throwing her attention at. I've had good experiences here before but I won't be back. Redds down the street has better prices and more seasoned bartenders, and whiskey on grand is top notch. read more

I've never been to Ontario, but I sure hope the bars resemble this little gem along Grand Ave on the border of Williamsburg and Bushwick. It's one of those dives that doesn't seem like it's trying too hard, and I'm sure we've all been to a few poser-dive bars around this part of town. It's real, it's gritty, you can drink shitty Canadian whiskey for $3 per pull, and there's taxidermy on most of the flat surfaces of the walls. The only thing missing was a woman in a bikini chopping wood, and I'd have been led to believe that I was really tipping a few back in the Great White North. read more

Air Hockey, check. Crown and Ginger, don't mind if I do. Zero attitude, why thank you. I went to Ontario last Saturday with two fine gents and lost by one point in a total of three games of air hockey. I wonder if the red headed bartender ppl are referring to is the same gal I've decided is Heather Graham circa Boogie Nights? She sure is pretty. PS Thank you Ontario for reminding me how much I love Rancid. PPS Please don't get a TV, they suck all the good conversation out of the room. read more

Great layout, affable bar staff, solid jukebox, comfortable booths, $3 Bluepoint and Six Points. Plenty of places do a few of these better, but very few do so many. This place sets out as a comfy neighborhood dive and executes brilliantly. read more

I love this place. I am a regular. I go at least once a week. Its a comfortable dive bar with first class bartenders. It has video games, pool table, air hockey, lots of seating and a decent selection of beers. Its cheap and its not one of the big name bars on the same block. Try this place out when you're in the neighb. read more

Not a fan. I know it's a dive bar, but I really just don't like this one. We went there with some friends to just hang out. Though, I'll give them two-thumbs up for their decor while I remember. You feel very Canadian stepping into this place. The drinks are reasonable. My low rating has to do with the entertainment options. Being 2 girls with like 6 guys, we needed some entertainment options. We tried the Terminator game (Big Buck Hunter was no where to be found) - the guns were broken...thus money down the drain. Then we tried the air hockey - the air doesn't really work and on one side you have to kick the machine to get the puck to come out (and it only goes to 7). The Pac Man game works just fine, but I'm just not good at it. I like the circular seating in front, but it's not very comfortable...the wood stump of a table was cool though. My friend order a Ketel and soda. We think she got a crappy crappy house and soda. Not awesome. We had to get a new one. TLDR: Personally not a fan and feel no real need to return. read more

My friend and I came here on Canada Day, because, well obviously. Anyways, we found the place to be fairly dark, dingy, and empty. There was a scant amount of Canada Day decorations, though they might have just been year round Canada themed. We ordered "Canadian", as you do, and the server blankly looked at us and then went over the draught options. We ended up selecting "Molson". *face palm* Anyways, despite wanting to hit up our national day of celebration at a tacky themed bar, this ended up being a one beer stop before we attempted to hit greener pastures. (Oh, also, we had problems using our Canadian credit cards here - I guess their machines won't process chip cards? Even if you swipe) read more

It's seems as though when I go to meet all the kids I used to go to punk and hardcore shows with out in BK we meet at bars where they're playing 80's music. And when I go to meet kids I went to school with who had no clue who the buzzcocks were in middle school, they're hanging at this bar. It's awesome, because let's be honest, the earlier mentioned group of pals is WAY more judgmental than the latter group. This spot has a great beer selection, chill clientele, and great music. The bartenders are on point and attentive. The seats are comfy. There's a few pups in the bar. Why wouldn't you want to hang out here? read more

I don't really like Canadians and I don't drink a lot of beer. We stopped here to have a few cheap beers and it was great. Low-key, non-judgemental hipsters (very hard to find) There were a couple beers for $4 and each one was tasty. I take a star away because the music was loud and let's be honest, this is a small/cozy bar where you come to hang out. I don't want to scream at the person across the table. When we asked the bartender to lower the music because it was way too loud she gave some tude but reluctantly obliged. read more

Maybe it was a one time thing, but this place was unimpressive. I went to this place with my brother for a quick beer because the sign outside said $3 drafts and in NYC that's, like, free. The bartender (a woman) made us feel like we were keeping her from her friends at the end of the bar because she had to serve us and served my brother a beer with a fly in it. Hmm, not going back... read more

Went here last week for Canada day festivities and it was a great experience. Friendly dive bar, with good selection of beers (Canadian included), air hockey and plenty of seating. The bartender was great and they even let us bring in a pizza at one point. Drinks were super reasonably priced and they have great music! I would definitely stop by this place again. read more

I'm (not) a lumberjack, and I'm okay. I sleep all night and I work all day! Haha. This bar is a lot of fun, and is great location for the other side of the BQE in Willyburg. The bartenders are very cool, and love to talk on slow nights. They have good beer specials, and pretty good selection. Although, you may feel inclined to get a Labatt. You know what that's all 'aboot.' Definitely a very cool place, worth the trip! read more

This is a wonderful little bar for a few drinks after work, but be careful on Thursday... the happiest/friendliest bartender in the world might never let you leave. The music at this bar is generally great and always at the right volume. The regular patrons seem to be high quality people and the beer selection is pretty good, albeit not very Canadian. Happy hour makes the prices great and they're average for Brooklyn when it's not happy hour. In addition to the bar, there are a variety of cozy little tables and booths, so this is a good place to bring a small group for chatting, shooting the shit, or playing russian roulette - whatever you do with your small group of friends, nobody here is going to judge you. I rarely go on nights other than Thursday, but have stopped in a few times on other days and everything above seems to stand 7 days a week. 'Why Thursday?' you may ask. Well see the hint above. The bartender on Thursday is amazing as a bartender and as a human being with whom you can have a conversation. She is also just about the bubbliest person I have ever met... even at 3AM she'll have a big smile and a booming laugh waiting for you along with the delicious beers that she'll convince you to keep drinking until the wee hours of the morning (which for me is 11PM). It sometimes makes you forget you have to work the next morning. Dangerous yes, but well worth it. Also, they have air hockey. read more

Finally, a spot I like in Williamsburg that's away from the Bedford L strip. Can't lie; I was tempted by the $6 beer/shot specials: High Life & whiskey or Tecate & tequila. But honestly? This was nicer than some of the well-known whiskey bars I've been to like the LES' Whiskey Ward or Bedford stop's Whiskey Brooklyn. I'd trust 'em to make a more complicated drink. +1 star for the air hockey machine in the back. read more

It's a clean dive bar with a Canadian theme. If you like Canadian beer they don't have a big selection of them but they do have Molson on tap and LaBatt bottles. The decor has a nice Canadian-ish feel to it with a lot of wood and some mounted deer heads (a moose would have been better). They have some cans for $3 and the taps start at $4. I like that they have a few plush booths as well as some games. The best of which is air hockey ($1) in a seperate back room. They also have buck hunter and pac man. read more

This place is a revelation. It totally hit the spot!. I had a group of 10-15 people that I was supposed to show a good time last night, and a friend suggested I take them to Ontario...it couldn't have gone better! The bartender (a very attentive and friendly redhead) gave us amazing service, and the whole time we were there I really felt like she was taking care of us. Not just making sure we had drinks, but making sure we felt cozy and shit. It was really awesome. The drinks were priced just right, the decor is quirky, but not overbearing. And the jukebox, although a little overwhelming by the amount of really great songs arranged in mix CDs, was packed with hidden and not so hidden gems. It was also loaded with credits for some reason, so I felt like I'd gotten invited to a sleepover at my new rich best friend's house. Five Stars! read more

Unfortunately pretty lame bar. I'm an expat from Ontario and thought it would be a cool place to chill, its not. update! - I really like the air hockey. read more

This is a good, reliable dive bar. I come here once in a while for the Canadian theme. Had my first bad experience last night with the night time bartender. Twice, I had nearly finished my drink and, rather than do the normal thing and ask if I wanted another, she simply cleared it. When I objected, she poured a tiny drop and asked if I wanted to eat the glass and added a stream of other snide comments. This sort of mean, power-tripping behavior isn't 'edgy' or authentic. It's just insulting your customers. Why should I come back here when there's six other bars on the same block where I can get professional service? I haven't experienced this before at Ontario and generally enjoy the staff (the daytime bartender yesterday was terrific.) Hoping this was a one-off read more

Few places in NYC really capture that rugged north-country vibe like the Ontario Bar. From the outside it looks like some haggard old bar with patrons that are similarly old and haggard. Surprisingly, the inside is crisp, clean & bursting with lively young people. Rustic, out-doors-y, and very........Canadian(?). Minus the "Eh"s. I love this place. Great staff, great crowd, great drinks, great prices. read more

Came here late night as the end stop to a string a bars for a friend's birthday. I really liked the cozy booths and seats towards the back. Not sure this place would have been as good if it was crowded and we had to stand but the drinks were great, not too expensive and it was a pleasant atmosphere. If you're a guy, I hear this place hires some of the hottest girl bartenders. read more

Ontario is unpretentious and I like that. Its a bar in North Brooklyn with a Canadian theme. The decor is kind of rustic, but thats cool. Its a bit far from where I live, but if I had to go there again, I wouldnt mind. read more

Came here for some beers. $4 for beers is not too bad. There was an OH (Original Hipster) DJ in the back spinning some good music - Isabel de Valvert. It was vinyl from the 70s, and I googled her but can't find much info. read more

Leave it to the Canadians to save the day. After the disaster of The Drink, Ontario's smooth 90s jams, adult-sized beers, and pleasantly mellow vibe made for a great end to the evening. They had a good selection of Canadian and domestic drafts for a fair price, and the bartenders were quick, efficient, and--shocker--not douchebags! There were plenty of tables and booths with people just relaxing, enjoying their drinks and each other's company, and not-completely-unironic Big Buck Hunter arcade game for giggles and masculine posturing. There was even a little room for some slow-jam breakdowns, despite lack of an actual dance floor, and nary a side-eye to be had. Honestly, my bar was probably pretty low after the preceding hipster nightmare, but it was nice to just chill and not worry about whether or not we were actually cool enough to be allowed in the door. read more

Ontario is a great cozy neighborhood bar. It's Canadian themed (obvs) but not overdone. They've got molson and Labatt, but No Kokanee. WTF guys. ;-) To be fair I mentioned it to the wonderful red headed bartender who wrote it down and vowed to look into it. I was here a couple of times this week and had a nice time both times. The first time was happy hour and we got four cocktails for 12 bucks. YES. That's like free in new york prices. The second time we stayed for hours and literally closed down the bar (same bartender) didn't even leave until about 5 am. She's great and took care of our group and we all had an amazing time. read more

Buddies! This bar rules. It's a dirty little dive bar with reasonably priced drinks. $3 High Life in NYC is a godsend. Overall, this bar was okay. The air hockey was fun and the $5 Miller High Life and Whiskey shot was a great deal. However it was very crowded and the music was really loud. Usually I can handle that ( I mean it is a bar). The particular bartender that help me was very rude, which was a huge turnoff. Taking into consideration the rest of the bar being very chill and laid back, that is not what I was expecting. Won't go back-- I'll go to one of the several other similar bars in the area. read more

My hubby and I came across this place after having a big meal up the road. When we walked in, there were lots of people near the front of the bar, but there was more seating than we thought. There were waves of groups that would come, but it never got unbearably busy. We did go on a Saturday night but luckily we didn't have to maneuver through a big crowd. The very Canadian Big Buck Hunter game was working fine - I enjoyed seeing a couple overexcited guys taking it so seriously. The music was great. The husband noted that it was one of the only bars/pubs to play Sonic Youth that he's been to. The bar staff were friendly. They ran out of the spirit I was drinking, but they had plenty other things so it was perfectly fine. The bathrooms were unisex and surprisingly clean throughout the night. Ontario is a laid back bar, for laid back people. We had a chill night, and would definitely go again. read more

This is SUCH a chill bar. I come here when I miss the shitty taste of Molson Canadian, or maybe some of the better Labatt Blue. It takes me back to the days when nothing mattered...when I'd dance and booze all night. And maybe all day. And then eat some poutine. And wear tuques. And study at Tim Horton's. Maybe I would walk to Kensington Market. Or pass out in a club that is open 24/7...or... read more

Listen up "Ontario", if that's your real name, you are a good bar, but when you are touted as a Canadian bar and I come to you on Canada Day and NOTHING...you lose big time points. This bar proves that Canadian bars are like any other, and like Canadian ex-pats, not that much different than what you get in the US. Canadians come here for nostalgia (for which there is absolutely none) and hipsters for irony (also none) - there are barely detectable signs of Ontario - save for an Ontario flag hanging sadly on the side wall. Here are some tips: Get a TV - we have TERRIBLE TV. Hilarious. Play shitty classics like "The Beach Combers" (that show went on forever so there are enough episodes to last a lifetime) Oh you didn't know that was a Canadian show? You didn't know there was such a show? Well now you do. You're welcome The "Littlest Hobo" - are you kidding me. The German shepherd who went to every steel town in Canada helping people in need and then leaving. DeGrassi, the original. Canadian. You Can't do that on Televisoin. CANADIAN...and rather entertaining if I recall correctly. There are tons more...I know you're dying to hear me list them off. Oh and Smarties. Why aren't you selling smarties? Candian Smarties not American Smarties. Huge difference, but you knew that because you opened up the Canadian, sorry, Ontario themed bar. What brand of chips are you selling? Herr's? Not very Ontario. All I'm sayin, is you're a good little bar - but I'm not sure where the Canada is. I mean yes you call yourself Ontario, but you could be Ontario California for all I know...is that who you really are? NICE try Ontario California. ps. Hockey...all things Toronto MapleLeafs. The Hamilton Tigercats (football), Stelco, Defasco (steel mills) How can you not know this "Ontario"? ...also, there was no socialized health care (OHIP). read more

RACIST BAR. I'm Canadian. I had such incredibly horrible service at this bar. I went here on the evening of Dec 6th with my friends. I ordered two drinks and tipped for each drink. We were there for more than three hours. On my third beer the bartender refused to serve me, claiming that I hadn't tipped for my previous drinks. She swore at me and told me that she "didn't need the tip anyways". She even interrogated my friend, asking if the drink she was buying for herself was for me. I told her that I had tipped her. I have friends who witnessed this act. She still refused to serve me. My friends and I surmised that she was racist. I am a black/mixed race woman. My Asian friend also received the same treatment and accusations. If you aren't white you shouldn't go here. It's racist. read more

I went their this evening and the bartender was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. 6 friends (paying patrons) and I came in around 3:20 AM to get a night cap. The door was wide open, so naturally we think they are still open for business. The bartender allows us to come in and sit at her bar for about 15 minutes. Not acknowledging any of us, only her friend at the end of the bar, feeding him free drinks. Finally after I called my cab I decided to ask her a couple of questions. While she opened a crisp cold FREE beer for her friend. Me: "Um excuse me" Bartender: " Hey yeah we already called last call" Me: "Oh I am aware of that by now, Just wondering why you chose not to tell us you weren't going to serve us?" Bartender: "Well if you don't like it you can just fucking leave" Me: "Yeah I know , I have already called my car. It's just courtesy to let your patrons know when your not longer open or serving. Might also help if you close the door when closed early so people don't walk in" Long story short, I usually enjoy this place. But I have never come across such a rude amateur in my life. Don't go to this bar on Tuesday nights for a late night cap. If a short brunette with short hair is bar tending, send her my regards. read more
