I was impressed. I had ordered a Bento box on Seamless requesting to have vegetable dumplings instead of shrimp dumplings. However I ordered hand cut rolls that were not completely vegetarian. Someone at the restaurant called me A few minutes after my order was received to confirm that I in fact wanted those rolls and then I still wanted vegetable dumplings. She wanted to ensure that I didn't intend the entire order to be vegetarian. I was very appreciative of that. Not to mention the food came in half the time than expected. I got the ramen. I asked for no egg, still got an egg. Not a big deal. However, the ramen was somewhat bland and the noodles were similar in taste to ones that come in the cheapest instant ramen packets. The egg wasn't soft-boiled; it was boiled to the point of being grey. The add-ins were also bland. Overall, i would've preferred to eat homemade ramen or even the dried instant ramen--at least i can enjoy how bad(in the junk food way) those are. Ramen over at Ramen Nagomi in New Brunswick is about 25x better. Place was clean and the server was nice. read more

This was my first time ever trying Korean food and I was very satisfied. I ordered the mild tuna+salmon poke bowl and it was amazing. It was pretty spicy for something labeled mild but if you're okay with spice like I am, you just power right through it because it tastes so good. My only complaint was the service was a little slow and the place wasn't so busy so I feel the staff could have been a tad more attentive but I'm not too worried about that; I loved the food read more

Yum, yum, yuuuuummmm! This place has become a regular stop for me, and I have pretty much tried almost every dish. My go-to fave comfort dish is their katsu...perfectly fried. It competes well with their kalbi though, which is perfectly sweet. Their customer service is welcoming with a touch of feeling at home. That combined with delicious food, equals success to me. As Transplants from Hawaii I can tell you this is the real deal and brings us back to our days in the 808. We had the Meat Jun with corn, tofu and japchae sides and my son didn't leave a single grain of rice on the plate. My wife had the Tonkatsu lunch box which was just super crispy and tasty. My salmon was perfectly cooked and was a very good size portion. Love all the extra sides which included the miso soup and Mandoo. We live 2.5 hours away but is definitely worth the drive and we'll make the trip as often as we can. read more

I grew up in Hawaii, eating amazing Korean food. Ever since I moved to the Mainland U.S. (35 years ago), it has been rare for me to find the high-quality Korean food that I grew up with Ono Korean BBQ is THAT rare place! My sisters and I shared the Kalbi short ribs, Naked chicken wings, garlic chicken, shrimp shu Mai and meat jun, with side dishes of Kim Chee, Japchae (noodles), daikon (pickled radish) and Mac salad. EVERYTHING was made to order -- it was truly home-cooked comfort food! Of course I had to have my mocha bubble tea for dessert --. YUMMY!!! And the ambience was SO warm and welcoming, it felt like I was eating at my Auntie's house. Teresa (the hostess and our server) and was so knowledgeable, passionate and patient with explaining the items on the menu. And Stella and Victor were the AWESOME chefs making all our amazing food. I've never done as intense of a double-take as I did when I saw this storefront pop up down the road from my house. As a Korean with a mom who spent her childhood in Hawaii, my whole family was so excited to give this place a try! And Ono definitely didn't disappoint! We decided to start with the pork mandu, spicy Korean chicken wings, bulgogi bibimpap with miso soup and salad, and spicy pork dosirak with namul. All of it was great! And, of course, Ono passed the ultimate test: The kimchi was awesome. And I'm still thinking about those spicy Korean chicken wings. They tasted almost exactly like my mom's recipe! I'm so glad I don't have to travel all the way to Edison for Korean food anymore, because the stuff you need to quench your craving is right here in Matawan! Im only giving 3 stars because the food was kind of nasty, but the owner is so so kind. Idk maybe it was a bad day, but the food tasted like it was cooked in old oil. The only good thing was the dumplings. Too expensive for that quality of food. I only ate the dumplings and threw the rest out. I worked at a Korean restaurant and I know how it should taste... this was not it. Customer service was great and the owner was so kind. Got the spicy pork with choice of 4 sides, japchae, bean sprouts, sautéed spinach, and traditional kimchi were all delicious! Today, ordered the beef dumplings and again, delish! Pastry is thin and crispy, ground beef is soft and flavorful. Their bubble tea is blended, coconut flavor was yummy - again, better than the dessert shops further north. Authentic Korean food - like when you go over a friend's house and their mom is a great cook. Selfishly, I hope this restaurant is here to stay because it's an easy quick fix when my family wants Korean food and I don't have time to cook or drive 30+ mins. My kids are picky kalbi eaters and they think this is better than grandma's. I have been coming here with my parents once a week for the past few months and it's my favorite restaurant in Matawan! We always get the same thing: I get the beef bulgogi lunch box, mom gets the salmon lunchbox and my dad gets the plain ramyun. I love the mandoo that come with the lunchbox, they are so good! And they are always happy to give my mom extra because she doesn't eat rice or noodles. Everything is delicious and freshly made. Teresa is a joy and very patient and kind with my elderly parents. The food was so delicious. My brother and I tried the sweet and spicy chicken wings as well as the garlic chicken. I wish the garlic chicken was wings but overall it was tasty and had so much flavor. The spicy chicken wings were great and flavorful too. It was the perfect amount of spice for us. The japchae is to die for even though i has it as a side dish. I definitely will come back for more japchae. Also, staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable about their food and how it taste.
