I figured I order a Chinese dish since they are Chinese owned and how badly can they screw that up? To answer my own question, the food here is nothing special, even the Chinese food. I had a beef chow fun and it was mushy and salty, and the beef was dry. A friend ordered szechuan beef and it was also dry and not even spicy. The sushi smelled badly of fish/seaweed as soon as I opened the container (more than sushi should). I got the Hot Lover roll which is pretty mediocre and supposed to come with a special sauce which is apparently just spicy mayo with a drop of sriracha in it. Literally a drop on the top of the mayo. The fish doesn't taste fresh and half of it is rice - definitely not worth the $14 dollars I paid for it. Pretty disappointed. If you're in the area I recommend picking up from Kickys (on Doordash with a $5 delivery fee). I should've ordered from there and drove to pick it up because now I am sad read more

Bubble tea. Bubbles. Bub, bub, bubbles. My wife and I finally found a nearby place that serves quality bubble tea. The drinks are insanely good but the selection is weak, in my mind. I usually get a chocolate milk bubble tea which tastes exactly like a chocolate milk. The boba is among the best I've had. Only once did I actually have an issue with their boba being dried out. My wife enjoys getting their honeydew smoothie with boba (the guy at the counter prefers that we say "bubbles" though). I'm eager to try their other cuisine - looks like they have a wide selection of chinese, japanese, and thai. I'm excited to have some poke, sushi, and sashimi on my next visit. However, I usually order their Thai/Malaysian and Chef Special dishes so I can't comment on the commonplace Chinese items or the sushi. This place is very convenient for me since it's right across from Matawan Train Station. After picking my husband up from the station, we stop in here at least twice a month. We are always pleased with the quality and freshness of the food, excellent portions, and the friendly service. The dishes are cooked in rich, delicious sauces full of all the right spices. I have had authentic Thai and Malaysian food, and I can confidently say that Sultan Wok holds to the same high standards. My favorite is the Ginger Chicken. The chicken is very tender, white and cooked with enormous chunks of ginger and red peppers. It is a zesty dish that's healthy too! I also love the Malaysian Rendang Shrimp meal, which is served in a decadent spicy sauce with a generous portion of jumbo shrimp. If you're vegetarian, you'll love the Curry Vegetable! I can't comment on ambiance, since Sultan presents itself strictly as a takeout place. There is no dining room and only one or two small tables. I have yet to try similar Asian places nearby, but I can't resist Sultan Wok when I'm in the mood for delicious Thai or Malaysian cuisine. Ordered tonight... the food took an hour to finally be delivered and when it arrived it was BARELY warm, but we were starving so we dove right in. Then I realized the egg roll that I ordered was not in the bag. I ordered three things, not sure how that was missed but eh things happen... so I called and they didn't really seem very concerned and said they would have one sent to me and pretty much just hung up. Again, an hour later my one egg roll showed up and this time it was straight up cold. It felt like he forgot my egg roll in the car and then just delivered the same two hour old egg roll... this is the last time I will be ordering from here. It ALWAYS takes at least an hour, the food is just okay, and now this, I'm done. Oh and one time when ordering from here, after they delivered the food there was some makeshift box cutter on my floor by my front door. I was confused as it looked like a prison weapon. Upon closer inspection I noticed Chinese writing on paper that was wrapped around the metal blade so it was clear where it came from. They have pretty much similar menus like all the others, chinese, and thai food available here. Even Malaysian too. But what separates this place from all the others? Now, it's not the absolute best sushi ever, and there's a delivery fee (2-3$ depending on your location), and it can take up to an hour to deliver (although they do warn you about this from the get go, so just plan ahead), but yummy! They do also have Malaysian and Chinese food, but whatever. The crunchy kani roll is really good, one I have not seen elsewhere. They also have miso soup, seaweed and kani salad, etc. Nicely done. I enjoy ordering from here because of the convenience of online ordering and paying online via credit card. I have also been a victim of fraud on many different credit cards over the past three years. I called the Matawan location to discuss the issue and was surprised when the MANAGER of the location stated that they knew the credit card numbers were being stolen and haven't done anything about it. If you check out the reviews from their other locations, you will see this problem isn't just at the Matawan location, but at all their locations. I used to order sultan wok a few years back because they have online ordering and it was just easier to decide. It was "OK" so today I decided to try them again. Food quality has defintely gone down. I have not tried their sushi, only the chinese cuisine. beef and chinese vegetable lunch special: pork fried rice average, sauce too thick an chunky...over saturated. sweet and sour soup: tasted extremely watered down not good at all fried chicken wings: fried...very eh. Summary: Generic greasy chinese food....the other local spots are much cleaner and taste better.
