Their project management team were very professional and stayed on top of all the necessary building inspections during the course of the repair work. I can actually feel the increased structural rigidity on my 2nd floor walkway now when I walk on it. So, that's a relief to me. Besides having a few names dealing with this company was not only emotionally frustrating, it cost me too much money of my own as well as added un needed stress to my life. I am a tenant in a building. Retrofit1 took almost 9 months, place my car in jeopardy when it didn't need to be parked on the street, people did not show up when we were asked to move our cars too many times. Yes I know I dont know details about inspections. But if they wouldve shown up more often I believe the project would not have taken us through the summer where I didnt have access to my pool. If they werent showing up we shouldve received another text. All insulation was removed from under my whole apt and neither the retrofit company or of course my building management took any responsibility or even cared. My dwp went up over $200 a month and I was cold all winter. Workers continued to leave equipment in my way of entering my apartment. Now no one was disrespectful but this was a miserable experience. And this is not to be classist or issues pertaining to language but no one spoke english and I couldnt communicate. Grant it I was and am only a tenant but I have rights as I pay my bills and no one seemed to communicate or care about how this project not only added stress. I physically got ill. When they painted no one told us they were going to be spray painting and the dust was all over my apartment, my cats got sick, I got an upper respiratory infection and covid. Im sure living on a construction site is never a fun experience. Now if they wanted to send me a check for $800. to cover my winter bill and an apology I would change my opinion. But to be discounted and at times I became an annoying hysterical tenant as I couldn't see where they were replacing the insulation but I don't think they could even once put themselves in my or our shoes as to what we were dealing with. A quality company tries to understand the frustration of the experience not ignore it or ask apt manager to tell us to leave them alone. And currently this building is even more dirty than ever. read more

I'm really happy with this company. They just completed work on my building and it went very smoothly. I didn't receive any complaints from my tenants either, which is extremely rare, haha! I actually only heard good things from them about how nice the guys have been, how good the work looks, and that they're excited the building is getting up to code. The work looks so clean and it was very easy having their crew here the last month or two. I can barely tell work was even done. I think the whole construction took about 7 weeks. Their engineer did the plans for me too so that was nice not having to use a different company. I was working with Diana in the office and she was very helpful throughout the whole process. Someone even took care of all the city paperwork for me which was a huge relief. The tenants were able to use their parking after hours so it didn't cause any problems regarding parking. Most of the residents were at work anyway and all the construction was covered up and put away in the evenings/weekends. I didn't lose any parking spots either which sometimes happens during these types of construction. They kept their word about everything and that's all I need. Just stick to the contract, be reliable and honest, and do a good job. Retrofit1 did exactly that. I believe they also do plumbing and other construction so I will make sure to tell my friends and family to go with them. They really took away the headache of having to go through with this! This company just finished doing construction work on the building I live in. I was pretty annoyed when I found out our building was going to have construction going on for weeks but it actually wasn't bad with them. They were super nice, CLEAN, and respectful and I don't think it even took very long. The area around the building and parking spots look way better and stronger now. Even the new paint and materials match the old one. I thought it was going to ruin the building but it actually looks better than before. Great timing, too, because I was feeling really scared after the last earthquake around the 4th of July and now I feel much better and safer. I'm glad our building did this now and didn't wait since I was in Los Angeles after the Northridge earthquake and that ruined so many building, lives, and was just terrible. Last year, the City of Los Angeles mandated retrofitting of all "soft-story" buildings citywide to be completed in the next seven years. Our family company decided to proceed 'sooner than later," in retrofitting our 16 unit apartment building, recognizing the industry would get busier as time went on. Early on we had our engineering done with a reputable company, but then decided to get several other bids for the construction, including Retrofit1. Retrofit1 came in with a highly competitive bid - in fact, they were our lowest bid! We were advised by other business people to pick the company with the mid range bid. But, after seeing and hearing Retrofit1's presentation, we decided to award them with the contract to retrofit our building. From the owners, the engineers and the project managers to the foreman and workers, everyone on the RETROFIT1 team expressed high levels of quality of work, professionalism, dedication and problem solving. We were about to sell the building but decided to get some estimates to see what we could do. We already did engineering with another company but Retrofit1 redesigned it because there were too many extra things on it that would've cost a fortune. Their engineer designed something cleaner without using as many columns I think. I was worried at first if it would be approved by the city but everything was approved. It saved us a ton of money for construction because the quotes we got first were really high based off the first set of plans. They're almost done working on the building I live in and it's been easy with them here. We did have to park on the street during construction hours, but I had work anyway so I didn't really feel it. They leave the construction zones covered up and clean at the end of the day. Our next door building has another company doing their work and it looks like crap. I thought that's what would happen to us but luckily our manager went with this company and not the one doing our neighbor. I'd chat with some of the workers sometimes and they were always super nice and respectful. They were even working here during the super hot days, I don't know how they do it. I'm on the 3rd floor and super happy this is done now because I didn't want our building to collapse during an earthquake. My parking spot wasn't affected even though they did work next to it. This company worked on 3 of my dad's buildings and not once did we see any of the behaviors the other review described. We actually only saw the opposite from start to finish. When their project manager first came out, I think her name was Maria, she was very professional and helpful. After getting a few estimates from other companies, we felt confident going with this company. Not only was their pricing fair, especially for the quality of work and materials, but they were one of the only companies that really know what they were talking about and were not trying to rip us off. Another company offered us a lower price and then tried to add almost $14,000 after! Beware of low estimates like that. So greedy! Retrofit1 didn't add anything else after signing which was a good sign. We started with one building to test things out and it took about 7/8 weeks to complete construction. Before they were even finished, we knew we wanted to sign the other buildings up with them. Very clean work, respectful workers, and out tenants were extremely satisfied with the work and didn't report any issues. Every time we had a question someone was there to help.
