I met Mr Weinstein a few weeks ago. I had a tree that had broken thru my foundation. I wanted to keep the tree and repair the foundation. Mr Weinstein was very knowledgable, Professional and personable. They completed the work today on schedule! the work site was left sparkling clean and the new foundation is beautiful. They added a dehumidifier and sump pump. They were on time for appointments, completed the work within the estimated timeframe and were helpful with a couple of doors that needed readjusting after the drilling vibration loosened some screws on the thresholds. I hired Weinstein Construction to complete major repairs to two balconies and master bathroom subfloor that were in bad shape. I had unfortunately previously hired what turned out to be an unethical contractor who was a liar and a grifter. In spite of the chaotic conditions and numerous unfinished jobs created by the first contractor, Mr Weinstein was willing to take over and completed the job beautifully at a fair price. Professionalism from start to finish. I sought a total of 4 bids for my retrofit -- all certified and sourced from the Earthquake Brace & Bolt website -- and each contractor confirmed that my access point was too small (it was also blocked by gas lines). One contractor bowed out of the bid process altogether (too much hassle, apparently); another wanted to add an additional access point on the opposite side of house (total bid that was almost $6k!), and another wanted to dismantle an Ikea closet organization system to use an access point in a bedroom closet, thereby working from INSIDE the house). Weinstein Corp. was the only one that looked at the problem and said, "Let's just make the existing access point bigger." Eureka! (And so simple.) The work was done on time, and every person I encountered was friendly and professional. Once awarded the job Weinstein also handled all the EBB 'paperwork' from start to finish (and let me know any time there was action I needed to take in the EBB portal). An amazing experience I'm not sure where to start. I've been in and out of construction at my home for a year and a half. I've hired some wrong people in the past, our home was broken into two months ago, and we've needed over $30k in necessary unexpected home repairs over the past 3 months. When our semi subterranean garage and laundry room started to shows signs of minimal leaking two years ago, we knew it would just continue to get worse. And we weren't sure of the cause. When we received the summer "hurricane" here in LA, the laundry and garage had immediate flooding. The first company I called took 4 weeks to book a home inspection. Young slick guy (nice guy), immediately looked at the set up, snickered and told me the job would have SIX figures. I let him continue to take measurements. Bid came in at $76k. I found Weinstein Construction through my realtor (Gina Covello). Mr Weinstein came to my home 3 days later. He took the time to explain to me the reason for my flooding, and presented two different ways to rectify the problem. My bid came in at under $20k. Soon work commenced. Crew was respectful. Mr Weinstein dropped by everyday to check on work (4 days in total), doubled checked that their work was proficient (and they demonstrated for me), other than dust from concrete demo, my garage and home were left in excellent condition. Final bill was in-line with quote (actually a bit better)! I was called before a charge was placed on my credit card each time. I'm leaving the review because it's been a very long time since I've received this level of service. Time given, clear explanation, easy communication, respect for my home and myself. Nothing pushy. Nothing hidden. They did what they said they would do. They solved the problem without creating additional problems. I'm very appreciative and grateful. On March 13th and 14th of this year the basement of my 1930s Spanish Colonial home flooded after an intense 48-hour atmospheric river event. I lost my water heater and furnace to the tune of $8000 and experience significant water damage to the first floor of my home. A few days later a work colleague recommended Weinstein Construction. He praised them highly and told me he had a good experience. On March 27th I called Weinstein Construction and spoke to Eric. Eric requested pictures after our initial conversation where I explained the water event and damages. On March 29th I followed up with another e-mail to Eric requesting an inspection and estimate of the damage to be repaired. I was told the earliest available appointment was April 24th at 12:00 noon and that a representative by the name of Jonathan would conduct the inspection. I was also told Jonathan would contact me in advance as the scheduled appointed neared. I was disappointed that the appointment was nearly a month away, but I certainly understood that there were likely several people throughout the city suffering the same fate as myself, so I accepted the date offered and adjusted my work schedule accordingly to be available. Unfortunately, on April 20th my 91-year-old mother fell ill and was rushed to the hospital. I spent three days & nights prior to the scheduled appointment in the hospital with her. On the morning of the 24th my mother was still in the hospital but stable and preparing to undergo a cardiac imaging test. I was in constant contact with the nursing staff and told them that I would be there as soon as the inspection at 12 noon was complete. I hadn't heard from Jonathan, so I reached out to Eric. I was told that a mistake was made, and Jonathan was double booked, and they would have to reschedule me for the following week. I was understandably upset. I asked if the conflicting appointment was made before or after me and Eric informed me that the conflicting appointment was made after my appointment was made. So, I questioned, why was I being rescheduled when my appointment was made first. Eric's response was "We don't like to bump people" and my response was "but you're bumping me"... Why was it OK to inconvenience me when the conflicting appointment was made after mine. I was extremely upset with that response, and I let Eric know I was upset. I was very clear that I did not appreciate the way I was being treated and I needed to speak to his manager, the owner, or whoever was in charge. I was told there was no one else to speak to, he was it. Eric told me he would have to speak to Mr. Weinstein, and he would get back to me. I did get a call back and was told someone by the name of Carlos would come at 1:00 the same day. I agreed, but to please come quickly because my mother is in the hospital, and I needed to get there as soon as possible. 1:00 comes and goes... no Carlos. Again, I call Eric to understand what the delay is. Carlos finally arrives at 2:00 PM and I explained to him the situation, I walk him around the house show him the basement and when he leaves, I leave as well because I'm already well behind schedule. On May 4th I received a proposal by e-mail. The proposal was for an astronomical $56,000 with little explanation for the conflicting recommendation to waterproof & add a sump pump, trench the entire house, wrap columns, and remove all dirt from beneath the house, among other ridiculous recommendations. I e-mailed back requesting a conversation with Carlos or anyone who could discuss the items that were included in the scope of work. Eric responds with "I need to check with Mr. Weinstein first.." and that was the last time I heard from Weinstein Construction. I've never in my life been treated so poorly and I suspect this may be how they typically treat women and People of Color. It's unfortunate we still must deal with this kind of discrimination. I would never recommend Weinstein Construction to anyone, and I plan to file a complaint with the Dept of Consumer Affairs, Contractors State License Board. read more

Holy Hundred Thousand Dollars - I had Weinstein come to my property for an estimate to replace some of my foundation. Both myself and husband are architects and were very clear on what work we wanted done, we had bids in the 20-30K so we knew basically what to expect BUT did we? Weinstein came to our home did a more than decent job at reviewing all of the foundation and seemed like they listened to our requests - then the proposal came in well over 100K with a little note attached stating their recommendations for a safe home - it was a complete house foundation replacement - nothing regarding the work we ask to be done was there. Seems like they just wanted big projects and their recommendations in the report actually went against Alpha structural which is not comforting. read more

Well, this company officially sucks! They were hired by the owner of my building to do some retrofit work to our parking area, and the whole process has been a shit show. The entire building has now lost parking (a valuable amenity in Koreatown!) because they leave mountains of dirt in all of our spots, including the areas they aren't even working on yet. They don't show up on SOME rainy days, but they worked during this week's gnarly monsoon which makes no sense, so the project will take an eternity. But to top it off, they are violent as FUCK to the property they are supposed to be improving. Check out these images of stress fractures that have occurred this week. The apartment units look like we had the earthquake they are supposed to be retrofitting it for! I shouldn't be able to see sunlight through my walls. I have reached out to a city inspector and I'm hoping they get removed from the project asap. Each day I come home to more damage or another inconvenience that wasn't communicated to the building's owner in advance so they could plan a workaround for the tenants. I work for another property management company, and if one of our vendors fucked up the property this much, our residents would be storming the offices with torches and pitchforks. After reading some of the other negative reviews on here, I'm definitely seeing a trend in the quality of their work and planning. I'm not saying their job is easy, but based on this experience, their skill level is certainly questionable. read more

We've been living in our house for 23 years, and "kept meaning to get around to this", but it never bubbled to the top of our to do list. Finally some scary thought sent us researching how to bolt our house to the foundation, and we somehow encountered Weinstein Retrofitting Systems (I think it was from an ad that our architect happened to come across, so not a personal recommendation). Danny came out to inspect the house, and made very sensible recommendations. Some of the things he recommended were inexpensive, and not even offered by his company (for example an inexpensive way to strap the water heater to the house). He spelled out our options for doing the minimum requirements (to be able to claim that our house is retrofitted), as well as the all inclusive option. There was no pressure to sign up for more than we wanted to, though he offered a discount if we did opt for everything. We took a few days to mull it over, then scheduled the work to be done a week later. They came with a team, and got it done in one day--noisy work, but that's to be expected. My only comment, is that the inspection had to be rescheduled--we chose a date, and they called to confirm it the day before, but since they had only our landline number, we missed the call until it was too late, and because they had no confirmation that we were going to be home that day, they had to reschedule. As it happened, this wasn't an issue for us because we work from home, but I can imagine that some people may have arranged to be home for the inspection, and then been out of luck, so it would be wise to get back up phone numbers in the future (though I imagine most people only have a cell phone to offer, so typically not an issue)... read more

What a great team of folks over here. We wanted to brace and bolt the house for earthquake retrofitting, as well as replace a section of our foundation that had a long horizontal crack in it. The first estimate we got during our home inspection was for over TWICE what Weinstein came in at. The other company also wanted to do some work that felt unnecessary to me and my general contractor - I didn't tell Weinstein about that and wanted to see what they felt was appropriate after their inspection and sure enough they didn't mention any of it. When I brought it up they said it was unnecessary but they could do it if I wanted. Big shout out to Nathan who came over for the initial free inspection and airdropped me all the photos he took under the house and answered all of my questions. Steve was great during the job, and the whole crew was professional and great. They even gave us a parting gift, an infrared thermometer and a box of masks! I always hate getting branded mugs and stuff from companies because it just ends up in a landfill - but what a nice, thoughtful, and functional gift for the times we are in! One company stood above all was the Weinstein company, they not only delivered all that they promised but were helpful with filing the permit and meeting the inspector and finalizing the job in one day. I HIGHLY recommend Weinstein Construction Corp. They came in with a very reasonable bid and were excellent to work with and completed all of the work on time and on budget. How often does that happen with other contractors? I found them through the Earthquake Brace Bolt program to secure my house to the foundation and mostly dealt with the office manager, Angela, who was great to work with and handled getting and uploading all of the pictures, permits and documents onto the EBB website so there was very little that I needed to do. It's the only contractor I've ever used where everyone showed up exactly when they said they would. When they came to do the retrofit the house they actually arrived early and set up in the driveway so they were ready to start work right when scheduled, and they finished right on time as well. Steve, the project manager, arrived a half hour before the window when the city inspector was scheduled to make sure everything went smoothly and it did, just like the whole project. All of the work was completed exactly on schedule and on budget and everyone was great to work. You would be making a mistake if you didn't hire Weinstein Construction to do your project.
