They were recommended by a neighbor. They came in to give me a bid for the Brace and Bolt program. They were on-time and very helpful. Their representative answered all my questions and walked me through the process including cost. I got the quote, it was way more than what was discussed to me on the walkthrough. It was actually one of the highest bid I got so far. I sent 2 follow up emails to Angela to inquire about the estimate cost and the details of it. Haven't heard from her, after reading the reviews here and Weinstein are practically going to do the same work as the others vendors that are also recommended to me i'll just skip them this time. I interviewed several contractors to preform my earthquake retrofit. Weinstein Construction was the stand out contractor from the start. Beginning with the initial phone contact with Angela, and the first appointment with the estimators; these folks were so knowledgeable & competent! They literally took care of everything. They explained every detail about the work to be completed, and their role in the EBB process. Angela even walked me through the EBB homeowner portal set up. I never struggled to get a question answered, or felt lost in the EBB process. The construction crew had decades of experience, they were very respectful of our home, and even completed the work ahead of schedule. Scott came out to meet with the building inspector for the final inspection, and take photos. The whole process was so simple for me- because Weinstein Construction's amazing staff handled it all! I highly recommend this company with no reservations. Last week the city approved the work done by Weinstein Construction Company to earthquake, bolt and retrofit my two-story house in West LA. I used the company as they had done an excellent job retrofitting my son's one- story house 5 years ago. The company's bid was competitive and included a very detailed summary of what would be done. As it turned out, the crawl space was particularly low because of too much soil and junk left over from prior house alterations. This necessitated removing a large amount of material prior to the retrofitting. The crew involved in removal of material and subsequent retrofitting were excellent and very professional. The photographs provided to me from before and after completion were very informative and reassuring. The site was left in meticulous condition when the job was finished. I had some leveling work done on my hillside Echo Park home done with Weinstein in 2007. That work went well and I had a good experience with them. Fast forward to 2022 and home has continued to settle so I asked Weinstein to come out and give recommendations on how to further stabilize home. Their inspector came out and promptly inspected the home, said he would get back with recommendations. I hear nothing from Weinstein for 3 weeks so after pinging their office, they finally tell me they cannot help and I needed to get a soils or structural engineer. I asked if they could explain to me what issues they saw that were out of their expertise, never got a response/call to explain. Fast forward another year and I had a different issue with garage footing replacement and asked Weinstein if they could help with. They requested pics which I sent over, but again silence. 3 weeks pass and still no response so I tell them I'm quite disappointed with their ghosting of a prior customer the last few times I asked for help on new jobs. All I got in response was "I will let Mr Weinstein know your concerns." but never got any response to the garage footing request. I'm disappointed, but it's time to move on. read more

Mr. Weinstein came highly recommended by a friend of a friend. I needed extensive drainage replacement under my pool area concrete deck. Their estimate was great and the work was even better. They went beyond the scope to ensure other drainage issues found were taken care of without extra charge. The crews were great and kept me informed about their progress and any troubleshooting needed. Their work was immaculate and they pressure washed my deck after the work was completed to leave me with a pristine deck around my pool. Danny came to see the place where i want to build a small retaining wall, and looking at the space He wouldn't give me a quote. I didn't feel he wanted to do the job. I Told him that i went to the city and was taking care of the permits, and he said: Well, you are not suppose no know the prices really. It doesn't feel good when from the start you know someone is not there to help but to get the most money he can get. I never hear from them, so I called a total of 3 times over a month to follow up and request the estimate. Each time they assured me that it would be sent soon. Part of any buyer's inspections of a LA home built pre-1994 should be to have someone go under the home and inspect for earthquake damage. As we were completing the negotiations to purchase a home, our very competent South Bay agent brought in a great inspector who put on a haz mat suit and went beneath the home we'd signed inpsected and shot a lot of pictures. The results were astounding: The home was missing key supports and another earthquake would make quite the mess. Given the home would be a key financial asset (or potentially a liability without repairing), we sought to get estimates on retrofitting and replacing the missing structural elements. Based on lots of recommendations, we went with Weinstein Construction because of reputation and because we really like and trust Yanky! This project was paid for by the us as the seller credited the amount due. The experience was excellent. Yanky's guys came and went daily for a little over a month, quietly working under the home and dealing with structural issues while we focused on cosmetic problems. About 4-6 weeks of work was needed to make the home secure. A new set of photos was taken and I could see that Weinstein truly did a miraculous job. Interestingly, many of the neighbors stopped by to see what was going on and we handed out a lot of referrals. I was reading their website before writing this review and realized that not only is Yanky a great craftsman, inspector and carpenter, but he's also a Rabbi! They took a message then called us back and halfway during the call they hung up. They didn't bother to call us back. Danny Nernberg of Weinstein Construction came over to look at my failed drainage system. One problem appears to be a blockage in the drainage pipe that goes to the street. In a "Miracle on 34th Street" moment, he advised me to hire a different company to pinpoint where the problem is and possibly do the repair work. I hope the other company can resolve the issue. I recently hired Weinstein Construction to retrofit my home. The reason that I chose Weinstein Construction over the other companies is for a few reasons. To start with, in doing my online research, I found they had good reviews, they are a business that has been around for over forty years (to me that says a lot about their workmanship and management), and their website was top notch. I then called their office and got wonderful service from the personnel. They were professional, kind and beyond that they were flexible with my schedule to perform initial inspection. When their estimator came out, he was punctual, thorough and respectful. He went under my home to look at matters, and was under there for quite a bit of time. That told me he was getting it all down. After this, they got me my bid within about 1 day and I have to say they were extremely competitive. It was time to move forward. In all, between the reviews, the office teams cordiality, the estimators professionalism, their competitive price, the work crews diligence (I even got final work photos), I have to say that I am more than pleased with the service I received from Weinstein Construction. I contacted Weinstein Earthquake Retrofitting to check out my home's foundation a few months ago. They came out promptly to survey the house, but they failed to tell me that the process takes several hours. After 4 or 5 hours, I had to cut the meeting short due to other commitments...work! After the meeting, I received various calls from the salesperson about setting up another appointment, but scheduling was absolutely impossible, so I asked them to send me a proposal. Unfortunately, I never received anything. What a waste of 4-5 hours of my time! read more

This would have been a one star rating but some of the workers that came to our home did work hard from what we could see. That being said.. We contacted Weinstein for an estimate and the person that came was an hour late, when he arrived he did quickly look under the house and got the information he needed. He stated he would be emailing us the quote that evening or in the morning. We waited 2 day and heard nothing. We contacted their office and the receptionist apologized and said he would relay the message to get our quote and adduced us that we would have our estimate then next day. After 3 days we contacted them again and asked if they wanted our business, we were finally emailed the quote. We reluctantly decided to use this company. They sent someone else over to take one more look before the job was started. After he checked the house we were told that it would cost more because the first quote was missing information. After a brief discussion they honored the first quote. We were told that we need to sign some paperwork and give a deposit. So we waited and heard nothing, after 2 days we called asking what happened, they apologized, and emailed it. We finally scheduled a day for them to come and they didn't show, we called and again they apologized and rescheduled. When they arrived the workers were very polite and worked like a team. We were told it would take a full day to complete the work and it took 3 days to complete. Part of the scope of work was to cement (level) the back room to the house, which they did (removing the sliding door in the process). They had to take day to let the cement sit, so they packed up and left (leaving the are with the door completely open, I asked the lead worker why they would leave our home open and that anyone could come in when we are not home or when we sleep, he responded that he didn't have wood to cover the doorway. I told him there was a Home Depot right down the street and he told me "I don't have any money" and they left ! I called the contractor for this company and he came out and put plywood on the doorway (which we paid for materials) They finally finished the floor (took 3 days, due to it not being level and having to correct it) the floor looked descent, but they cut the drywall way to high and got cement splattered on parts of the walls. We had to pay another contractor to repair the excessive cutting and cement removal from the walls. When it was all said and done (and made the final payment), I called the company and asked for the pictures they said was part of the work, showing the work they did under the house. We received 3 pictures of the same image. We called again and asked why only one image, they again apologized and never sent anything....that was 2 months ago, still no pictures. We had a handyman (which we had to pay) to go under the house and take pictures for us, finding that Weinstein had left trash under the house when they were working. We contacted them yet again and they sent someone out to clean up. Again we asked about the pictures and to explain what they did, still waiting for the information or even a call. Should have not made the final payment until we had everything we were promised. For the work that was done and the price (about $10,000) this company has very very poor communication and if you do use their services, watch everything they do and double check it before they leave. FYI I would not recommend them. read more

From the moment we contacted them and had our very first meeting with Mr. Weinstein and his assistant Angela, we knew they were not only highly professional, but their approach was honest and numbers clear. We found that the earthquake retrofitting cost was mid-range compared the various other quotes from competing contractors ,but they clearly spelled out their work protocol and expected timelines ahead of time in a way that far-surpassed the rest. They kept extraordinarily close to the deadlines set-out on both projects; always kept us abreast of any potential delays, which were truly few in number in both retrofitting projects. I happily recommended Weinstein Construction to other family members who also needed to do (soft-story) retrofitting. Angela, was/is a true gem throughout both retrofitting projects. Always happily keeping us updated re: project details and always available to answer any questions we had throughout the process. I simply don't get the way this place functions. I hope your experience is better then mine. Here is my story. I am notified by a potential home insurance company that my 2 houses need to be retro-fitted to be covered. So I do a bit of research and find this place. I call them on a Friday and speak with a pleasant lady on the phone regarding getting someone out to survey the properties for retro-fitting and estimate on the cost. They can do it the following Monday...great! I ask he to have the agent please call me about 30min before he is to arrive as I am working that day. The first appointment is at 12. It's 11:30 and no call. So I decide to just leave work. The agent shows up on time and is friendly and somewhat helpful, however, he never called. The home is on a slab, so it takes him all but 30 minutes to survey and measure it. Then we are off to the 2nd property. Again, takes him about 30 minutes to survey it. Upon his departure he states he will email me the estimates that evening. Great! I need this done fairly quick as I am getting new homeowners insurance. Well, Monday night comes and goes....so does Tuesday. Wednesday afternoon I call the company to see what's wrong. I speak with the pleasant lady again with whom I figured out they had my email address wrong. Honest mistake. She said she would contact the agent and I should have the estimate in 30min. No luck - never received. I called again on Thursday afternoon and speak with the same lady who stated she will call the agent to see what the issue is and call me back in 30min to an hour. Here it is Friday afternoon...no call and no estimate!!! UGH! I don't have time to play these games, I guess they do. UPDATE: It was requested of me to update or remove my review. I will update it. The Friday after I left this review I got a call from the lady that answers the phone and schedules the appointments. Although she is very friendly, you can tell she is new and inexperienced, which is fine...we all have to start somewhere. But WHY would they have her call me rather then upper management to discuss the situation, is beyond me. She explained to me that the first guy who did the survey is no longer with the company. He supposedly quit the next day after he did my properties, which doesn't explain why it took so long for them to call me. Whatever. I chose to give them a 2nd try. Scheduled an appointment for the following Monday at noon. Asked her to please have the guy call me 30mins prior to his arrival....."of course, no problem" she says. Yeah...right. Monday, 11:30 no call. Small beans. 12 no call. Ok, I'm not too concerned about the advanced call this time because I am actually off work that day. However, I still have things to do and places to go. It's now 12:30 and no call and no show. Finally 12:45 he shows up. Fine. He was pleasant and knowledgeable. Explained that he had prior appointments and explained that to the gal in the office who was supposed to call me to let me know. I guess communication or organization skills is not their strong point. Fine. All I am interested in is a quality job at a fair price. Their price seemed fair, but I am hesitant in going with them because the communication problems. They don't seem to be very detailed oriented. My goal in writing this review is that they correct these issues to provide better service to their potential customers. If I were you, I would give them a try....see if they improved. I was in the process of buying a home in the San Fernando Valley and had several concerns about the Foundation. Weinstein sent out a very competent inspector named Ed who spent over 40 minutes under the home insuring that the home had a sound foundation. I was satisfied with the estimate and decided to continue with the home purchase in part due to his recommendaiton. In the future I will need to complete the work and based at least on Ed's first impression I intend on using Weinstein! read more

Hardest working team in town for EQ retrofit. Have had the best experience with the whole Weinstein team. Was involved with another company for mandatory EQ retrofit and by sheer luck had the good fortune to meet Mr. Weinstein. Within a week I had terminated RetroExperts and hired Weinstein for 8 buildings, the first four of which have been done on time, on budget and signed off by the city. Who could ask for more! Angela runs the office and is so professional, kind and responsive. They tell you of any problems up front and get them resolved. Only wish I had more jobs. The original surveyor was a super nice, young Civil Engineer. Really knew his stuff and explained it all to us so that we would understand it. The 3 man crew was polite and did not blare loud music (like my neighbor's contractor last year). The work took an extra day but we were not charged anything extra! We had two pieces of the 1929 foundation cut and removed and then new concrete pumped in. We also had the hallway leveled. There were a couple of cracks caused by the leveling but we were forewarned this would probably happen and so planned to paint once they were done. We are very satisfied! read more

All I can talk about here is this companies FREE quote for home owners as I did not yet make a decision which company I should/will choose. Danny, a company representative, that says he has 40 years worth of building trade experience came by to walk the property ins and outs....he took many many photos inside and outside of the house (it felt a bit odd as some of the competitors do not even ask to go inside the home). He seems to be quite thorough in his analysis and does not rush you at all. In fact, the more time you spend with him the more you learn about your property. So in that regard if you are not a privacy geek...definitely ask for Danny to come over. On top of doing a very thorough investigation and deep analysis full of explanations, Danny discovered a significant error that my contractor did with the drain of my Jacuzzi tub. He was super nice and kind to alert me to this issue that he noticed. It would have gone unnoticed until it would cause issues. His 40 years of building trade definitely came handy here....I asked him to explain what my contractor, who was remodeling my bathroom at the time, did incorrectly with the drain. Danny took the time to nicely draw 2 model-diagrams that clearly explain what was done wrong. I confirmed this with another plumber and it was certainly done incorrectly. Later I consulted Danny again in regards to different materials I (my contractor) should use to support my Jacuzzi tub and again Danny showed a lot of knowledge and experience. In short, this representative from the company knows what he is doing. I would choose this company for the work except it seems that there prices are somewhat higher than most of there competitors. Therefore, I will wait a bit and sleep on it several nights before I make a wise decision on which foundation company will do my retrofitting. I am a LA-based realtor that represented a seller of a 4plex property in Hancock Park. Weinstein had completed a foundation retrofit in 2005. During the 2015 sale, the buyers inspected the property and determined some additional foundation work was needed. Given Weinstein was familiar with the property, the seller thought it was logical to bring them back out for the job. The work was completed (though it took me calling to confirm this because we received no follow up correspondence) and we later received an invoice. The seller ran into an issue as the final bill was not itemized, subsequently preventing the new buyers from securing property insurance. We are now two and a half months after the close of escrow, and Weinstein has yet to produce the required document. At first, they ignored a month's worth of inbound calls from myself, the buyer's agent and the buyer. I had to contact the seller, who now lives in Thailand, to request that he reach out. Prior to moving out of the country, the seller had reached out to Weinstein and identified me as the point of contact. Weinstein had no issue with me authorizing work, scheduling work, etc., but they cited the seller's lack of correspondence as one of the reasons they'd ignored all of the other correspondence. Why they didn't respond to any of us asking for a request from the seller is beyond me. After receiving the seller's request, Weinstein refused to prepare the itemized invoice without going back to the property to check which work had been completed. This seemed a little suspicious given that they'd been at the property a few months back and then billed the owner for completed work. Anyway, they went to the property. We're now a week out from that visit and again have no itemized document. We've been promised by employees (Angela was the main point of contact) on an almost daily basis that we'd receive the itemized final invoice confirming work completed. Nothing yet. The seller failing to produce this document to the buyer could land him with a lawsuit. Weinstein's actions, or lack thereof, have severely damaged my relationship with the buyer's brokerage as the agent's frustration and anger at Weinstein's failure to cooperate was deemed a reflection of my professional conduct. The buyer's agent is one of the top 3 in Los Angeles; this negative experience will undoubtedly be a problem the next time I work with them. I would not work with Weinstein again. -- Update 12/8/15: The itemized invoice was finally received after months of requests. Too little too late in my opinion. This avoidable incident has seriously jeopardized my relationship with the buyer's agent, their brokerage, and my client. read more

I wished I read these reviews. We hired the Weinstein company to retro fit and lever our house in a nut shell. $27,000 dollars later. Attaching plates to dry rotted termite eaten wood with out telling us ahead of time. not properly leveling the front part of the house, not getting the proper address on my permit (2 house property) and attaching blocks of wood as an insert to connect with smaller piece of wood instead of just using the proper size of wood. and guess what yes more attaching plates to dry rotted wood. What a horrible company can't believe it is in business. DO NOT CALL THEM. read more

But when it comes to Weinstein Construction I am actually happy to write a review as a simply way of repaying them for their extraordinary service, in all regards. As many readers may already know, in the field of real estate development and investments it is rare to find a company that is professional in every way and ethical in their business dealings. I have been in real estate investment and construction since 1986 and owned and built numerous projects big, small, old and new. I first met Mr. Weinstein back in 2012 when we learned that a 1922 10 unit apt building had a failing foundation. I found Weinstein's quote to be the most reasonable and equally important the Weinstein team performed on time with respect to defining the scope of work, preparing drawings, obtaining permits, working around unexpected obstacles and finishing on time. I have engaged Weinstein for additional work and I have since recommended Weinstein to business associates who have had an equally good experience. After working with a structural engineer to plan a comprehensive seismic retrofit of our home, I hired Weinstein Construction Corp to replace my foundation. Over time, they took on much more work, including demolition of the garage, removal of lath and plaster and roofing material. They also volunteered to do concrete and masonry. I can't say enough about how hard these guys worked, and they do their work old school; everything by hand, no heavy equipment required. At times, we had 24 guys working the site with shovels and wheelbarrows. They broke up the old foundation and trenched the new one, taking most everything away barrel by barrel on a flatbed truck. I am quite pleased with their work and would highly recommend them to my own mother or anyone else. This kind of work does not come cheap, but your life -- and that of family -- is worth the investment. read more
