Hello all, I had 1 Oak Remodeling replaced on my roof. After a rainstorm, the roof developed a leak. I contacted 1 Oak Remodeling and explained my problem. They were very professional and explained they would send someone out and take care of the problem. An inspector came out and inspected the roof and the damage the leak had caused, which was the south wall and hardwood floor in that area. The scheduled crew came out as scheduled and repaired the leaking area. We both agreed it was important to wait until the next rain to make sure the leak had been properly repaired, and it had been completed. The South wall was properly repaired. At this point, 1 Oak remodeling refused to repair the floor damage and walked away from the floor repair. They started to claim the leak came from the ski lights and they are not responsible. I'm a disabled veteran, unable to climb on my roof, and they wouldn't show pictures of the ski leaking area. Please do your homework before closing a deal with unreliable contracts! read more

Our neighbor hired 1 Oak to refinish his bathrooms and floors in his condo. When they were breaking down his tile on our adjacent bathroom wall they knocked out some Grout in my bathroom. I told my neighbor who informed his project manager Lester, Lester came over the next day to check out the damage and fixed it himself. After that we hired them to paint our bathrooms and install new light fixtures and a ceiling fan. They did a great job, charged what they quoted me and did everything efficiently. Ok Yelpers, if you have kids, you should earmuff them..... OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!!!! Ok, earmuffs off. As you can see, my previous review was quite a blistering one of being ill-prepared. After I posted it, the owner, Josh, contacted me privately saying he was so upset, tears in his eyes, he was firing the guys that came out, please give him another chance... Yada yada yada. Yeah, right. You know, the ole "I'm gonna make it right spiel." You know that spiel, right?... where they come out, do the song and dance and give you 10% off the work, but in the end they made more money on the big job than they would have made on the little job... Yeah, THAT gimmick... Well, I wasn't bullshitting (whoops sorry, earmuffs) about needing all this extra work done. I seriously had a disaster at the house... Not only did I need roof repairs, but the walls had to be opened, insulation pulled out, the structure needed drying, then found termites, had to deal with that, flooring, I mean, a whole big mess... So I was thinking, sure, his 10% off estimate can be one of the many estimates I send to the insurance company so they give me a fair payout. But no way in the world was I gonna use them. I mean, right!? And then he said something so magical, so marvelous, so miraculous, I was instantaneously transported to the wonderous world of make-believe, where Idris Elba worships me and cake has no calories. He said he would do the job for FREE... Ummm, what!? Something you need to know about me.... FREE is my favorite 4 letter word. It's better than cocaine, better than sex, better than sex on cocaine (not that I do that). The point is, the word FREE sends massive amounts of dopamine to the pleasure centers of my brain giving me a rush of sensation no man (or drug) has been able match in all of my years on earth. My goal is, and has always been, to get things as close to free as possible and I live my life by that mantra. "FREE FREE FREE." So naturally, after he said the word "FREE" and I came down from off the ceiling, I was intrigued... I mean, how much for "free"... are we talking an hour of labor? A can of paint? He said THE WHOLE FUCKING JOB! (ok, at this point, fuck earmuffs!) Now, because the drywall and paint is at minimum a $4K job, I'm like "come the fuck on!" I mean, I ain't no sucka. There's a scam in here somewhere. I'm just not seeing it yet. So, I say OKAY. Fully expecting "the drop" at any moment. And so we schedule the job... and reschedule the job... and reschedule the job... I kept having to reschedule because I kept finding other structural issues that had to be taken care of first before the drywall went back up (like termites, and improper electrical, etc). Through it all, JOSH WAS KIND, PATIENT, AND VERY SWEET. HE SAID BECAUSE HE HAD A YOUNG FAMILY AND IT WAS A NEW BUSINESS FOR HIM, HE WANTED TO LEARN FROM HIS MISTAKES AND MAKE SURE HE MADE ALL HIS CUSTOMERS HAPPY. Uhhhh...Yeah, right. Liar. NOBODY is that nice, and sweet, and genuine... am I right people!??? Anyway, just waiting to meet this dude so I can out him for the hustler he has to be and I'm just not seeing yet. And so we meet! Josh shows up. He's young, handsome, fresh face, professional. Introduces me to his guys, tells me everything they will be doing... Replacing the insulation, drywall, taping, patching, painting. I tell him about my bathroom shower problem, he says he wil fix that too. Never once did he mention money. And so they get to work. He brings me copies of... AH HA! I KNEW IT! A BILL!!!!.... Nope! It was copies of his insurance and contractors license.... Could it be true?! To make up for the horrific roofing experience, was this guy gonna REALLY do a 4K job for free!??? The roofing, had they done it, would have been $1K or less! Buffering...buffering...my brain does not compute... what's happening right now!??? HOLY SHIT, there it is... that feeling I haven't felt in years... the feeling of meeting someone genuine in Los Angeles... Something so rare it's like seeing a Jackalope atop a Unicorn. And suddenly, the high I got from getting something free was followed by the crash of disgust and self loathing every addict gets after the high is gone. For as much as I love getting something free, I don't love putting the screws to a small business owner who is sincere about wanting another chance to make things right. So, at the end of the day (because he was there all day), Josh comes to me to say they will be back the next day to finish up the upstairs and they will come back next week to paint. It's then I tell him I'm gonna pay. BUT NO, he said a promise is a promise. And I really did see him tear up when he said this... he said he wanted to make me happy. He was so upset by my review, he needed to make it right. Well dude, I'm MORE than happy. Thanks for changing my mind. JOSH IS MY CONTRACTOR FOR LIFE!! HE'S EARNED IT AND THEN SOME!!! I would not recommend this company even they offered to do work for free. It is going to cost me 9000.00 to undo the damage they did on a simple bathroom remodel Proper permits were not pulled for the job. They moved toilet and shower drain without permit.In fact they submitted a plan for entirely different house. The plumbing they moved is not properly attached to sewer line for toilet and drain line for shower. The work on plumbing is so offset that a toilet won't attach and shower is about 3 and 1/2 " off center that water would not drain if it had been able to reach a drain line. Rather than accessing attic to change exhaust fan they cot a huge hole in ceiling. The only time I saw Josh was when he took a deposit. They do not invoice their work, they send one of their day laborers to collect large checks in person and use intimidating tactics to collect when I asked to see owner and have him look at shabby work that was done at that point. They wanted to collect all but 2000.00 on a 16,000.00 job. Work done is so shoddy I am now getting bids near 10 thousand to undo it. So if you can't afford an attorney or pay to have the work redone by a new contractor or don't want threats personal and financial ruin. Stay away stay away STAY AWAY. Of course when he sees this review he'll say this person was not a client.. Unprofessional Unreliable and very Unpredictable if you want to discuss work before cutting a big check. read more

During the project I decided to go ahead and also have josh and the team install disability railings around my building. My last review for 1 Oak was after they had completed the installation of 4 roof vents. Gave them a 5-star and 2-thumbs up at the time. In the review I mentioned that we were so happy with them on that small job that we were in the process of bringing them back to bid the remodel of our bathroom. A little background...we had started the bathroom remodel with another contractor and it was a COMPLETE DISASTER! We had to fire him. Needless to say when Josh (the owner of 1 OAK) showed up at our place to quote the job we still had major PTSD. In fact, he was so nice, that my wife and I even questioned whether he was just putting on a good performance. Let me cut to the chase...we hired him and he just completed our bathroom (well ahead of schedule) and he really is that nice! The bathroom is gorgeous and our experience with him was every bit as good as our last experience with the other contractor was bad. What a different true professionals made. The shower and floor tile is incredible and the drywall work is flawless. He asked all of the right questions on what we wanted and what our goals were, explaining in detail how things would look when he was done. Gave excellent recommendations. For the shower he recommended that we float concrete on the wall prior to setting the tiles as that would be the most durable. Being on a pretty tight budget we asked him if he could just use cement board as it would be cheaper. He stated it wasn't his preferred method but quoted the lower cost installation we requested. After the demo was complete he came over and told us he had changed his mind and would like to float in the concrete the way he proposed...at no extra charge! He did and it didn't cost us a nickle more. As things typically happen, there were several other unplanned things that popped up during the remodel. He addressed them all without once asking for more money. In fact at the end of the job he refused to take his final hold-back payment as there were some things he had to fix that he believed caused inconvenience to us that he felt bad about. He did more than we contracted him for and charged LESS than what we signed up to. I have gone on too long. Bottom line is...when we get our second bathroom remodeled next year we will only have one phone call to make. If you don't at least give him a chance to quote your job...you are missing out on an amazing company. Don't see this kind of professionalism and service often. read more

The worst service i could have recieved for my home. David is the WORST person to work with, he continuously lied & I asked for a quartz counter top & he installed immitation quartz.. Dont use this company at all. They will rip you off & lie to you.. the workers were not scheduled properly, they didnt even pull a permit for work until after work was started.. Im very disappointed with the work done & it was a full remodel that I paid 38k for... David had the nerve to ask for payment in cash & never came to even see what was done.. he sent an uber driver to pick up a payment because he didnt want to show his face... We called and made the earliest convenient appointment. When Josh arrived, he quickly glanced around and found out the entrance for the crawling space under the house and in a blink of an eye he disappeared under the house! His friend's smile while waiting outside, showed that he had seen Josh like that before and he knew about his full confidence in his skills. Josh found out for us that a part of our house was an extended addition that didn't have any more crawling space underneath, and that he had to access the intended area through a drywall. We had mistakenly thought that the leak was probably from the cracked sealing between the shower walls and its floor but josh did a quick and smart checking and showed us that the problem was somewhere else. He was not trying to hide anything from us, neither was he trying to scare us and exaggerate the problem. His manners and cool behavior were very comforting. He assured us that he would fix it easily in no time. He then skillfully pinpointed where the problem was. This is probably the most reliable company to work with. They came out to quote my front window frame (to make it redwood) and re stucco the house to smooth. I didn't realize how extensive of a project it was so I had to bring them down a lot with the pricing and scope of work. They are flexible in ways other company's are not!
