I couldn't be happier with our experience at On Command in Sparks. Our dog, Ari, a large mastiff-mix recently adopted from a shelter, lacked basic skills and was at times aggressive towards people. It looked like she had a bleak future if she didn't get immediate help. Ari did the 21-day boot camp. When I called for reports, I was given information in a timely way. When I went to pick Ari up, she was looked healthy, happy, and was excited to see me. Her frightening behaviors were vastly improved. Liana did a stellar job training Ari while showering her with affection. My life is so much better I found On Command and when I brought Ari back, she couldn't wait to get in the door. Tried booking online but because my fog was new to them I had to have her vaccines emailed and she had to be evaluated. Vaccines were no issue but I called because I needed Thanksgiving week boarding. I was told there was openings but she had to do the evaluation. Girl said it was free of cost. Spoke to the trainer later that day and she said the evaluation had to be booked through her. She also said who ever I spoke to was wrong and there was no availability for Thanksgiving. I said I could be put on the waitlist so I can still bring my dog for an eval. She mentioned nothing on an evaluation fee. My dog is highly trained so I knew there would be no issue. 3 hours later I go to pick her up and they charge me $65 to say she is a good dog. The supervisor tried to keep busy so she did not have to talk to me and no one wanted to take responsibility for giving the wrong information. Every other dog going home was out of control jumping, barking and lunging. I wouldn't leave my dog there not only for the purpose that they can't get their facts straight but because what's the evaluation for if uncontrollable dogs are allowed? read more

In my house we have two small children and a 1 year old Weimaraner. We reached out to On Command in a pretty desperate state...our dog, Konig, was SO hyper active and badly behaved that we were considering finding him a new home. Our house was just utter chaos and all of us were getting stressed out as a result! We called On Command and ended up enrolling Konig in the 3-day bootcamp program with Courtney and also boarding him simultaneously for a week while we traveled to the East Coast. Our biggest issues with Konig were his insane jumping on people and separation barking -- those were the things we were hoping Courtney could fix. I called to check on Konig while we were away and Courtney informed us 'he was a new dog.' I was excited but admittedly skeptical!! When I picked up Konig and went through my private lesson I was totally AMAZED! Courtney was right...he was a new dog! He didn't jump on me when he saw me and was doing his heel with auto-sit beautifully! Most importantly, he was listening and behaving the way he was being told to behave. Fast forward to a week later at home with Konig and he's still doing amazing...even better, actually! He doesn't bolt out the front door when we open it...he patiently sits and waits to be told 'okay!' We've followed through with Courtney's training techniques and we certainly have a better dog because of it! I can honestly say that Courtney and On Command are responsible for helping us keep our Weim. Our house is a much less hectic place now that Konig knows who's in charge and how to follow the rules! We are extremely grateful for On Command...and especially Courtney for training Konig and allowing us to have the dog we wanted all along!! I really can't say it enough...THANK YOU! I could not be happier with my experiences with On Command. From day one walking in, I have felt welcomed and comfortable. Those that work at the front counter are very nice and knowledgeable. They are always ready to greet my puppy and my puppy is always ready to greet them! It says a lot to me when my puppy is happy to be there. I have completed their puppy preschool, 101 Beginner Course, and just started their 102 intermediate class. The trainers are the best! They really know what they are talking about and provide clear and concise instructions. I started off with the puppy preschool as this was my first puppy. I also wanted to test the waters with this facility. The puppy preschool gives you a one on one session with a trainer and two group classes. The one on one was great because I didn't really know how to potty train and did know how to handle things like play biting. Marilyn (sorry if I spelled the name wrong) did my one on one. I can say with confidence that she is the reason I continued at oncommand. She explained that they do no treat training because that means the dogs are only listening for the treat and not because we asked them to do something. She gave me tips on how to stop my puppy from eating too fast (which I still use today) and how to handle her separation issues. She really made me feel comfortable not having a clue of what to do with this new puppy. The group puppy classes were amazing! I'll admit I really wanted to do it so I could play with other puppies. who wouldn't? But they were also very informative. I had both Marilyn and Courtney, one for each class. They talked about how to introduce your puppy to new objects like bikes, vacuums and stairs. They explained how it was about building confidence with your dog and bonding with them as well. They covered items like teeth brushing, general grooming, first aid, handing and more. You could tell that both trainers knew what they were talking about. I really liked how they were able to answer any questions, and did not make us fee awkward or ashamed for asking what may seem like something everyone should know. For the beginner class, we were indoors at their location. This was good as I suspect my puppy many have wandered off had it been outside. There was about 10 of us, so it wasn't too crowded. We had Marilyn as our trainer. Marilyn was very patient with everyone and was willing to take our dogs as an example if we were struggling. She never seemed to get frustrated or irritated, even when it took multiple tries with the dogs (and the humans!) to understand something. We worked on all the basic commands and at the end of each lesson I truly felt that we learned something and was confident I could continue training at home. She even stayed late after the class and answered any questions we had. That's not something you see everywhere!!! My puppy was pretty young to go through the class (started at just 4 months), yet Marilyn was very reassuring that while young, she can still learn, she just may not have the attention span of other dogs. We have now started the intermediate class. This is outdoors at a park. I really like this because it helps build distractions that I want my puppy to ignore. For this class we have Courtney. She is just as awesome as Marilyn. I know that she has two classes prior to ours and she is outside for those as well. Yet when we get her, she is still very energetic and ready to dive in. This class has dogs of all ages, from mine that is not even 6 months to what I would guess is a few years old. This also combines dogs that had the group basic class, private class, and their boot camp class. Courtney does really well in explaining what we are working on and how we need to proceed. If we do not understand, she just re-explains it, which is great because its not just the dogs learning! I also board my puppy and get her groomed here. This place covers everything! They only feed your dogs what you bring, no random treats. This is great for dogs with special diets and allergies. When you board they also get to play in doggy day care so you know they are not shoved in cage somewhere. My puppy has never been hurt while spending time in there care, so I know they are well supervised. When ever I pick up my puppy she is always very happy yes doesn't want to leave. I get her groomed while she stays for boarding so when she is returned to me I have a very happy super clean puppy. I've never met the groomers or seen where they get groomed, but I imagine is is just as great as the rest of the place. I plan on completing their advance class as well as the CGC test. After filling out the form online I stopped by to drop off our dogs' vaccination records and was told the Bordetella shots, which were current, were not given by a licensed vet, they were given by the place we board in Southern California and they weren't acceptable. That would have been fine and I would have just had our vet in Nevada give the shots again but the woman at the desk was super rude and curt, perhaps excusable if busy but I was the only one there. No excuses for rudeness in this world - too many good boarding places, especially Pet Network in Incline - worth the drive. read more

Our Labradors have been attending daycare and boarding at On Command for many years. We have tried other facilities in Reno/Sparks and On Command is by far the best. The staff is extremely professional and the facility is amazing and so clean. I have been loyally taking our dog to On Command for at least 2 1/2 years starting with their boot camp training, and now daycare and the occasional grooming. I take her to daycare maybe once or twice a week, sometimes more. I've never had an issue or been late picking her up until today. The business hours are until 7pm during the week and we were driving back from CA and got stuck in traffic and would be about 5-10 minutes late. We called to let them know we would be late and were informed that we would not be able to pick up our dog after 7pm and that they would have to board her, therefore charging us an unnecessary boarding fee, in addition to the daycare fee. I understand businesses have hours for a reason, but I also know that they have employees there 24 hrs to watch the dogs that are being boarded. They also said that one of the reasons was because their systems automatically shut down after 7pm. Puh-lease. I work in retail and I've seen the systems you use for point of sale. That's just BS. Leaving her overnight normally would have been fine, but we both had to work the next day and I would not have been able to pick her up until after 5pm the next day, which is unacceptable. We had to have a friend pick up our dog and she was actually 1-2 minutes past 7pm and they charged her an additional $15 for that! How ridiculous. Being customers for over 2 years, you would think they would be a bit more accommodating to keep their clients happy, especially when there are a growing number of good, quality day cares in the area. Due to this incident, you have lost a loyal and supportive customer who gave rave reviews to other pet parents and we will no longer be taking our dog to On Command. read more

My dog had a grooming appointment on May 12th, about two weeks before the appointment I received an e-mail stating it had been cancelled. I called and was told that they did not know why but someone would call me. I waited about a week and called again. I was told the Jamie was no longer with them and someone would be calling me to reschedule my dog. I have never heard from them again. I guess they don't want my business. Must be nice to be in that position to not need business. Really bad customer service. read more

I love the people at On command and truly believe they care about my dog and treat her well. While their effort shines through, I have to admit that whenever I pick up my dog after daycare she smells like pee. And, she's been a little ill ever since I started taking her there ( vomiting, diarrhea). I understand they can only control so much, especially with puppies, so I don't want to imply a negative evaluation. Her illness could easily be a coincidence. I will still take her there and feel she's in great hands, but thought I'd mention those issues, both for future clients and also for quality improvement efforts. read more

We were traveling to Reno and Lake Tahoe over the July 4th weekend. We live in Thousand Oaks, CA and were worried about boarding locally because our dogs, a Corgi and Chihuahua mix are both rescues and neither of them had ever been away from us in over 5 years. A family member suggested On Command and we took the chance hoping for the best. Way over the top best place for our dogs. Happy, healthy, lots of walks and attention, treats, they let us bring in our own food, had no problem keeping them together and told us when we left our dogs got the blue ribbon award for behavior. Trust me, we've always nick named them Barky and Whiney here at home. Since picking them up, they have been quiet, well behaved and we had no issues with them during the 8 hour car ride home. I wish we lived closer, would for sure sign our Corgi up for regular training. Thank you to the entire staff at On Command. We will be back! read more

I have taken my two dogs here to be groomed for about two years now. I was satisfied with the service at first, however the last few times I have taken my dogs in for grooming have been very disappointing. I booked an appointment for both my dogs for a full groom which includes a bath and haircut. I was unable to pick them up since I was at work that day so my boyfriend picked them up and brought them home. When I saw my dogs that night I noticed that one had been groomed but the other had not. I called On Command to ask why my dog had not been groomed and they said that I had only requested she be bathed, which was not true. I explained that I had requested a full groom and that I couldn't imagine why they would think that I only wanted her to have a bath when she had been in several times before and always got a full groom. They then tried to tell me that they would be unable to groom her unless they gave her another bath, which I said was fine, but they wanted me to pay for the bath. I said that would be extremely unfair as I had requested a full groom in the first place and did not want to have to pay for a bath and then pay for a full groom on top of that. I asked to pay the difference between the cost of just the bath and full groom, about a $20 price difference versus paying another $50+ in addition to the $30 I had already paid for a bath. They told me this would not be possible. After several minutes of arguing they finally agreed to only charge me the price difference but said they would leave it up to the groomer on if they would give her another bath. I found this to be extremely poor customer service but was honestly just tired of arguing so I agreed. I then decided to give them another chance and booked another appointment for just one of my dogs a couple months later. About a week before her appointment I got a call asking if they could push out her appointment one week because her groomer had an emergency and had to go out of town. I was told she would have an appointment at the same time the following week. I agreed. Since my boyfriend and I were both working that day we had to have his father pick up our dog at our house and drive her to the appointment. When they got there he was told she did not have an appointment and that she would have to leave. I called after and spoke with the very rude receptionist who insisted she did not have an appointment and that basically it wasn't her problem. I then spoke to the grooming manager who was apologetic and said that the groomer my dog was supposed to see had quit and that the owner sent out a mass cancellation for all of that groomer's appointments but she did not know why I had not received the cancelation and that she had received several complaints about this same problem. Given this was not the first issue I had with this business I asked to have the owner contact me to discuss. It's been almost a week and I have still not heard from the owner. This place has the absolute worst customer service and I honestly feel very sorry for the grooming manager, who was nice but is forced to hear customer complaints because the business owner obviously does not take accountability when his business is run poorly. read more

EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL! We recently moved to the area and was looking for a facility for our Chow, Sadie, during the holiday, vacations, etc. We stopped in unannounced and was impressed with the cleanliness as well as the front office staff so we decided to bring Sadie in for several visits before leaving her over night. We were informed an appointment wasn't required. Today she went and was placed in a kennel the WHOLE TIME! Per the staff she was only taken out for a couple of walks! Upon calling this evening to review the protocol and have some questions answered I spoke with TRACIE who quickly advised me that "if we weren't happy we should go someplace else!" I was taken aback, and asked to speak with the owner as he was the one who was kind enough to take Sadie back for a few minutes as my husband picked her up and too was surprised by the actions. Tracie stated SHE TOO WAS AN OWNER and that she "didn't have time for this!" She said because Chows are an aggressive breed they weren't going to take any chances...I fully understand her concerns, but that is a judgement call and for the record our dog is afraid of our cats!! I would have rather heard her say it was for Sadie's protection! She REFUSED to give me the owner's number therefore, like the old saying goes.., "YOU DON'T GET A SECOND CHANCE TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION! So if indeed we decided to take her there is she going to be mistreated because of her breed or Tracie's professional attitude? Hopefully the owner sees fit to call me, I'd LOVE to hear HIS COMMENTS! Until then anyone have any suggestions on a clean, loving, and professional facility that we can review? read more

On Command is the best thing going in Reno for dogs. When we moved here we went to every doggie place to check them out and ask to look around. We either got turned away(instantly marked off our list) or the places smelled like pee or the dogs were all locked up or running amuck with no supervision. We walked into On Command and they said they prefer to do tours on the weekends but welcomed us to have a look anyway. We watched the daycare area thru some windows and the dogs looked very happy and playing AND there was a person in the play area with them. Then we did go into the back for a minute, the place smelled really good, very clean. The boarding rooms were big and clean. There were a couple dogs in kennels and they looked very content. We have been taking our big lug there for almost a month now and he can't wait to go there! The staff told us about a couple of his new "best buddies" who go there a lot and the staff even gets all excited when they all show up on the same day. He always comes home happy and tired. I can tell it's the people at On Command that make the place so special, they love the dogs. If you want peace of mind taking your dog somewhere it is like their card says "Reno's best place for dogs". read more
