Like I said. I don't like writing one or two star reviews. This is one of those instances however where something needs to be said. The genre of western family fare is something of a rarity these days. The only other options in town are Mil's, Denny's, IHOP and Black Bear. So let's start there. One star for it's potential. A freestanding structure with ample parking. The building is split between the main dining room and a separate lounge/bar/banquet space. Within the main dining room is the obligatory counter service with booths on the perimeter and some in between. The interior could use a major upgrade. The interior, furnishings, and tableware are all worn and used in not a good way as evidenced by the still crusted over silverware at our table. Looking outside I couldn't help but notice the level of dinginess of the glass and the window frame. It was like pulling on a string and unraveling a sweater as I started to notice the carpet and the puke blue throughout. There's another wash of a sickly Pepto Bismol pink in the hallway separating the dining room and the lounge. That said, I don't mind eating in divey places if the food is legit but in this case it was not. Having come by for a weekend breakfast and pretty much already turned off by the ambiance, the food did not do much better. The ham and eggs was under done and the hash browns were cold. My dining companion's chicken fried steak was a straight up disaster. The chicken fried steak was a cutlet of already cooked beef way past it's time that was breaded and fried and then covered in a salty brackish cream gravy. Another companion's omelet faired a bit better though the slice of American cheese on the top was a rookie move and appeared at first as nacho cheese from the gas station convenience store. The toast was serviceable but grape jelly makes everything taste good. Service was friendly and ample if not disorganized. That said, Omega has a lot going for it. The other star is for being a local favorite and long time institution. Milpitas needs more of these. Clearly a beloved coffee shop with many regulars and devotees. Omega also fulfills as a place for private and community meetings and functions. Some tightening up would help bring about a better experience. read more

The food and service went hand in hand, they were mediocre! I was bummed too because everyone I know who has tried this place out had good things to say. I went in yesterday to try the place out with my friend. I ordered the shish kabab plate. It was eh? The meat was really chewy, the rice was eh too... Our waitress didn't seem that pleasant which is no surprise working there. The atmosphere is dead just as much as the wall paper on the wall. She wasn't friendly at all. Perhaps they could use some tips from the cheesecake factory staff, never a dull moment there. I guess I'll have to try their breakfast next time. And the place could use a remodel, I felt like I was back in the 80's in south dakota or something. * One great thing was Olivia at the Bar, super nice and makes great drinks! Omega Restaurant is a typical diner/family restaurant that serves the comfort food that you've been craving. I ordered the hot beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was the perfect comfort food at the end of a long, rainy, dreary day. The server was nice and friendly. The service was super fast. I've been here several times, and it's a pretty decent diner. I'd love to give it 3.75 stars.. Customer service is great. All the workers are friendly, kind, and very attentive to your needs. I've been here a few times in the mornings (8am, 10am, 11:30am) and was always seated almost right away and got menus. Keep in mind Soup of the Day is chicken and rice only on Sundays and Mondays. I believe it was Tomato Tortellini was on Thursday. Not sure about other days.. (yet). I got several items here. The chicken alfredo was great, and very huge portions (but it's also pricey!) the hash browns I got were not that crunchy or hot.. I got the veggie skillet too one time and tried the polish sausage skillet. In my opinion the veggie skillet was bland and the polish skillet was decent.. I also got the chicken stir fry and it was really thick and wet. It wasn't that flavorful either.. Breakfasts are pretty good here, like the toasts and pancakes, but it's not terribly hard to mess up breakfast. Food is 3.5 stars and customer service is 4 stars. 3.75 stars.. read more

Love the old school diner feel and the food is always fresh. If you want a drink from the bar you can order what your pleasure. The service was fine. Got seated right away. BUT the food was not as good as before. The quality of the breakfast went down like a rock. Was pretty bad. Very oily. Ordered country sausage and eggs. They had added oil to cook the country sausage. Why do you need extra oil to cook the sausage. You can cook the sausage without any extra oil. Other places do it that way, The food sat in my stomach very heavy through out the day. I really needed to update this ready since the food has changed since I last been there. Wow that was the best waffle with bananas, strawberries, and whip cream ever. The first time I went the waffle tasted like they put bad milk in it so I didn't go back. The next time and the other 10 times they did it perfect. Crunch, buttermilk, fluffy giant waffle. Now that Flames closed down this is my favorite place to go. I live in Mtn View. The fog was so heavy that we couldn't read the signs on the freeway . We stopped at an exit and ate at the first restaurant we came across. We didn't check the Yelp reviews, so we didn't know what to expect. This place is like an old fashioned diner in the south. The cozy booths, the characters in the restaurant and the regulars made this place so special. I ordered the red snapper with rice, sauteed vegetables and a salad. W ordered the baked chicken. The menu was the about the size of the Bible, so I didn't expect the food to really be tasty, but it was. I loved my old fashioned iceburg lettuce, cucumber, onion and radish salad with ranch dressing. The red snapper and rice were also tasty. If you're down and need some nurturing and comfort food, I definitely suggest this restaurant. read more

Tasty food and fast service. One of my breakfast favorites is their chicken breast with eggs. It is very nicely marinated and seasoned. I also like to sometimes substitute their refried beans for potatoes. While 75% of the time we go here for breakfast, they also have very good dinners. We recently went there for my birthday. They're shish kebabs made with fillet mignon are magnificent. Chicken piccata and Philly cheesesteaks are also excellent. The abundance of fresh veggies is great also--- not frozen veggies but freshly cooked carrots broccoli and cauliflower. I chose this location partially because their dinner menu entrees include soup or salad and even a scoop of ice cream at the end for dessert. They do a great job on Greek salads and other Greek dishes as well. read more

A nice mom & pop style restaurant. Seems like a place were 'the regulars' go. The food is so fresh, and cooked to your liking. I love the fact that you can order pretty much anything on the menu all day.. (Got the grilled cheese & omelette) The prices are fair for the quality and quantity of food you get, and service is nice and wholesome. I only wish they gave free refills (only get one free refill for sodas). Gonna come back here for dinner sometime though. read more

According to Omega rumors/folklore, there is an old dude (usually wearing overalls) who sits at the bar 3X/day for ALL of his meals; every time I go to Omega, he really is there, and this fascinates me. I've only ordered breakfast and lunch at Omega-no supper, and I have never been disappointed. The California Benedict is incredibly generous and tasty. Whoever thinks Denny's and/or IHOP offer superior food to Omega needs to reconsider the effectiveness of his/her taste buds b/c bland, sub-par franchise food does not hold a candle to what this diner offers. read more

Really comfortable place to eat weekend brunch with the family! I ordered the Fisherman's Catch platter one time and I expected grilled fish or pan-fried prawns at the least, but I got (what looked like) Costco-bought prawns and fish sticks. It was a little salty for me too. However, the next time we went I ordered the Shish Kebab and it was a meal indeed! I had it for about 2 more meals after that since the portions were huge! Their waiters/waitresses are very attentive and they tend to your every need, especially to the senior citizens in the party. They really take care of the needs of the elderly people especially if they can't eat a certain food. Great place! Will be eating there again very soon. read more

Omega features a huge selection of comfort food. For breakfast lunch and dinner. Oscar our waiter is prompt polite and efficient he knows his regular guests and greets his new ones as if they were family .. The quality and amount of food is amazing. This was my first time dining here, and I'd say I was pretty happy with the food and service that I got. I don't remember the name of the host who sat us (I'm a little groggy from being sick, so don't judge haha), but she was amazing. She was so cheerful, and not even in the fake kinda way when someone just makes small talk because it's their job. She was really, really nice and genuine. I ordered the Omega Skillet with a pancake and a hot chocolate. Everything tasted great, although I wasn't able to finish my food because of my being sick. The eggs were burned, as were the tortillas. No, the large scoop of retried beans did not make it better. I cannot believe that you actually let that order leave your kitchen. Omega is one of the original diners in Milpitas still in business. Extensive menu, pretty good service (could use a few more people on weekends), and the food is fairly good. Not gourmet quality, but decent, basic American cooking with a few exotic flavors thrown in. Anyone who knows me understands my fondness for breakfast. My favorite breakfast is always huevos rancheros. On this lovely day after a hike up Mission Peak, my roommate and I stopped in to Omega for some grub. We got a seat at the counter right away, despite the line of large parties at the door, and we're sipping our coffee in minutes. Two orders of huevos rancheros were delivered faster than we could post our hiking photos to Instagram! My roommate asked to customize them with grilled onions and bell peppers. Delicious! Salsa was fresh (made there every week) and had a good kick to it. Corn tortillas, eggs just right, and a healthy side of refried beans. On our HR (huevos rancheros) scale we give it 1 dozen eggs! I grew up in Milpitas, always passing by Omega but never thought about eating there. Until today. We were in a rush and craving some american breakfast food, and not wanting to go far or deal with long wait times we decided to give Omega a try. We came around 1pm on a Tuesday, there was no wait. Waitress immediately seats us in a big booth all to ourselves. This restaurant is literally a scene out of Stranger Things. It's old fashion with the big fat couches, pastel colored walls, & diner tables. Everything was surprisingly extremely clean and well preserved. The menu is giant so good luck choosing. We asked the waitress for recommendations for our order. We ended up ordering a breakfast style country fried steak ($16 total) & it was honestly the best country fried steak I've had yet. Beats fast food chains Denny's and IHop forsure. My breakfast style came with hashbrowns, three eggs, and a pancake. AND THE PANCAKE CAME OUT SHAPED AS A BUNNY! The portions sizes were huge and the food was overall decent. 5 stars to the friendly waitress who gave us exceptional service, and for the best country fried steak I've had yet. I would definitely return again to see what more this place has to offer. read more

My hubby and I went here for Breakfast on a Sunday around 10AM We got seated right away and menus were given. o ordered the Chicken Apple Sausage with Eggs. The eggs did not look like eggs, it was all yellow like a mix. The apple sausage was dry and no taste and hash browns were soggy in the inside. it was pretty gross oh and the raisan bread toast was burnt. Hubby ordered Omelette with avocados and it was runny inside and they put american cheese squares on top....wtf??? The waitress was busy but we felt the service was a 1 star. The waitress going around pouring coffee did a better job!! the food is overpriced for the poor quality they deliver. I can understand why there is a wait on the weekends at Black Bear and other diners in Milpitas because the food is way better and the price!! NEVER GOING BACK!! read more

Everything I have tried tastes absolutely wonderful. The staff is very friendly and welcoming as well as the owner. I moved from the Peninsula to Milpitas a few yrs ago and was in search of a good breakfast joint for those early mornings on which I choose to go fishing. My wife, a Milpitas native, told me about Omega and I'm glad she did. It's like Bill's cafe or Denny's, except as if you got teleported to the 1980's. But that doesn't bother me because the place is clean, the food is delicious, portions are filling, coffee is good, prices are reasonable, and the employees are nice. What else can you ask for? This important event in the history of gastronomy, and what transpired thereupon, will be celebrated presently in mellifluous prose by the anointed pen of your venerated culinary commanding officer and sea daddy... {SNAP! Buzz.... Crack!} Okay folks! (Is this thing on?) The Captain has been suspended for the remainder of this review for being overly bombastic, in addition to being a bit of a dick lately. It's me. Greg P... I know! I rarely appear out-of -character. But I just couldn't trust "The Captain" to handle this one. So... Anthony Bourdain recently observed "Where there's good food, there's usually a family behind it." The Omega was originally started by a Greek family and in recent years it is being run by a Mexican family. Donna and I hadn't dined here in almost a decade, and being hungry as well as nearby, we popped into this venerable joint. Everything went well until mine, and Donna's nicely presented meals arrived, and I tasted the delectable looking hash browns... To my bewilderment, these savories had been rendered inedible, (at least to those of us blessed or cursed with certain sensing abilities) by the unknowing application upon them, of cooking oil, which had "gone south". For the record, it is understood no one would ever do this intentionally. Rancidity in oils, including fats in nuts, can't be detected by everyone in the population. Some like me, are genetically very sensitive to it, yet others can be incapable of sensing it. This is why reporting rancidity in any restaurant can be tricky. Ever since the banning of trans fats from restaurants, some proprietors apparently haven't gotten the hang of storing and using these far more perishable cooking oils, and sometimes this sort of thing can come up. Our server, the daughter of one the three Gamboa brothers who own the joint, listened carefully to my issue, and without the slightest trace of defensiveness, apologized and asked if I would like fresh fruit instead. I agreed that would be fine, and while she made her way up to the kitchen to talk to the cook, Donna offered me a bite of her home fried potatoes. They were absolutely wonderful. I rushed up to the kitchen window just in time to tell her I would like them instead. The whole joint sighed in collective relief, and no sooner did I return to our booth, my plate reappeared. I attacked it with the sort of relish and delight, which seems to accompany the aftermath of the aversion of a near disaster. Four thick slices of Canadian bacon, and two flawlessly rendered "over medium's" disappeared along with a single, large fluffy pancake and those awesome home fries. Donna ordered the... "Who do ya think yer'a callin "Donna" ya pole cat?!" [[This intrusion is brought to you by Ma Megabyte The Hexadecimal Hellcat, who is The Captain's Spouse, Partner in Crime, and Chief Tormentor.]] TO YOU, I AM GOD. I created you and "The Captain", and I can atomize both of you at the merest of whims. Now bug off and go tell "The Captain" I'll be reinstating him, so you can harass him instead! "Aye aye, Admiral! You have the con!" Where was I... Ah, yes. Donna ordered corned beef hash and asked for her eggs poached, along with those yummy home fries, all flawlessly done and nicely presented. The hash wasn't bad either. After inhaling our breakfasts, I beckoned to the young lady, (who's name I am embarrassed to admit, I have forgotten) and asked her to have the manager visit with us. I was very quick to make her understand, we didn't want to complain, but wanted to commend her and all involved for their flawless handling of a potentially sticky situation. The gentleman whom I believe was Mike Gamboa showed up promptly, attired in simple kitchen garb, and after we expressed our admiration and appreciation, a brief discussion between us commenced concerning the original matter, and concluded with his promise to investigate and correct it promptly. I shall now return the discussion back over to The Captain... "Whuh? OH! Er Um... AHEM!" "This is a perfect example of the Customer Service art in it's highest form. Ma and your Captain have dined here since, and we approve heartily of this fine family run enterprise. It is now among our favorite breakfast emporiums gracing the South Bay. "Hell! I should of made my own breakfast.. I had a simple dish, 2 eggs, sausage, hash brown and toast. My bf had their french toast, bacon, eggs and a side of toast which was burnt. The environment on a Sunday brunch seemed hectic, no smiles, just rush rush rush. Made you feel like saying "I should of waken up earlier to go through a drive through at Mc Donalds to get breakfast" The waitress did not make eye contact while taking our order and did not ask us what we wanted to drink, we had to ask her after the food came out. At least with Asian restaurants you get good food with minimal costumer service, but this place seemed to fail in both departments. I would not recommend coming here... read more

How the hell could I have been born and raised in this part of San Jose and not ever have eaten here? I remember when it was a Greek restaurant waaaaaaay back in the day. I guess it got sold and became an American food place. It's all good, though. I met an old friend from high school and she wanted breakfast food and said this is her fave breakfast place. I was like, "Oh...breakfast food!" I ended up not getting breakfast food, though. Hah. I was distracted by a Philly Cheesesteak - and it was fairly good. I was used to thinly sliced beef but this was a different version as it was more like strips of steak. Nicely marinated, I might add. Score one for them. My friend got the steak and eggs for breakfast...it came with hashbrowns AND pancakes. I didn't know what to say. The dishes kept coming out and I just kept staring. Lots of food...for such a tiny price compared to places like Flames. Also, much better quality. Two thumbs up from me. I will be dragging hubby here - I think he just might like it. I've lived in Milpitas forever and have always wondered about this place. It's not the best. When I stepped in, the look of the place seemed very stale outdated. I almost wanted to leave right then. We were seated after 10 minutes, the dining area seems cramped and poorly laid out. Our server was distracted. It took 15 minutes to get drinks and another 15 to get her to come back to take our orders. When we would try to tell her our orders, she couldn't hear us because it was very loud and she kept looking around the room, distracted. She would roll her eyes, and seem agitated when she couldn't hear us and yell out "what?!?!? I don't know what you are saying!!" She did this to my son 3 times and I almost told her to forget it, we are leaving! But I was hungry. We should have left...... It took 45 minutes to get our food. Each of our orders came back with something wrong. I ordered some chocolate pancakes that looked pretty epic on the menu (pancakes, drenched with chocolate syrup, chocolate chips, whipped cream everywhere....you know, diabetes on a platter). When I received them, they were regular pancakes with maybe 7 chocolate chips on it and a quarter sized dab of whipped cream. I was so angry. It was a $10+ plate and didn't even come with bacon or eggs....they were just regular pancakes!!! None of us really enjoyed our food. It was just blah. Our server was awful and it took another 30 minutes to get her to stop and give us our check. Actually, we stood up and walked to the hostess and had to ask for it. She then told us to sit and wait, she would get us our server. That took 10 minutes. Awful experience. Never going back. read more

I've been told by my numerous food snob friends this place is 3 stars at best; however, I must disagree. I've been here on numerous occasions and every time walked away satisfied for many reasons. First, the food is genuinely good. I've tasted the chili cheese omelet, grilled chicken, California omelet and some others I can't remember because I may have had one too many concussions. Second, the entrees come in very generous portions. All come with a side of either hash browns or country potatoes, neither of which you can go wrong with. To top it off, you also get a choice of a single giant pancake, or toast. The pancake is fluffy and is a nice sweet finish to what is an insane portion. The iced mocha tastes like chocolate milk. Third, the waitstaff are on point when it comes to refills. They are quite friendly, even to me and my serious case of RBF. If you're in Milpitas for whatever God forsaken reason, come here for all day breakfast. read more

We were looking for a breakfast joint after we dropped our daughter off to her day care center and as I was searching for eggs benedict, Omega Restaurant popped up. We were driving on Park Victoria as it was coming up on our right hand side, we started to drive slower so that we scope out the shady environment. And then hubby and I saw a Caucasian couple walking into the building and I said, "Let's go eat there!!!" We walked in and yes like Jon said...It smelled like "old". We looked around and all the white people in Milpitas were in there it was nuts!! I was like "OH SHIT, this is where they kick it!!" It was so funny because an older asian couple walked in right before us and when we go into the restaurant they disappeared. Maybe they turned Caucasian as well. It was like the twilight zone!! The service was okay. They were sweet old ladies, who looked at us as if we were lost. The food was delicious, my eggs benedict was great except that the hollandaise sauce looked kinda yellowish which was weird to me... Service is terrible! The last time the server tossed the utensils on the table and they slid across at my husband. Never apologized... And never came back to refill our coffee. We had to ask bus staff to assist. I didn't post a review or complain. This morning, it was a holiday morning but not too many people. We were seated and waited a while and just never got service.
