    Lobster Croquettes
    Noelle L.

Sat on the patio for a dinner and there were two tables with large dogs seated next to us who barked throughout the meal. This isn't the usual ambiance we'd expect at a nice restaurant, even if it is outdoors. Additionally, our server did not bring bread to our table but brought it to everyone else's table. The food was good except for the crab cakes dish - wouldn't recommend. Lobster croquettes were the best thing we tried.

Bastilla-- great!! And I make my own so I'm very picky. Carrot ginger soup--. Lovely. I wish I ordered the larger size! Duck cassoulet-- Smokey, lots of meat. Really good Apple Brussels hash -- I like warm apples and Brussels sprouts. This was good Key lime pie--great! Not too sweet. Good tang. Many times this pie is a very fake or condensed milk disappointment. This was good dessert chef creation Sunday brunch-- we returned the next day for brunch with our family. We had reservations but there was plenty of room. Corned beef hash skillet: I'm a huge fan of corned beef hash. This had lots of good meat chunks. I got mine without pickled jalapeño and without the green pepper ( but with red and yellow) My husband got it as described ( with those things). Both were excellent A third person got chicken and waffle. The chicken was moist and good Their coffee is yummy and I usually don't like flavored coffee. The special mocha latte was also good Monday Moroccan ? We will be back for this weekly theme night !

Great atmosphere to dine with family and friends. Always a warm welcome from the staff and wonderful service. We sat upstairs where it was much more quiet and greatly appreciated. We ordered the Belgium Endive salad appetizer, the pear salad, the butternut squash bisque, the Lebneh, the Beef Bourguignon, the Salmon, and the Crabcakes with asparagus. Everything was fresh, full of flavor and so delicious!!! The fare here has ALWAYS been outstanding as well as the staff and ambiance!! This is why we keep coming back. Highly recommend this place for the outstanding food, service, and hospitality!!! The desserts are equally amazing!! We ordered the bread pudding and the chocolate mousse!! (I had not ordered any dessert but have had them before) My friends were blown away at how delicious dessert and everything was!!!

    Fried Puffer Fish (Appetizer)

My friend's and I stopped by Omar's Carriage House on a Friday night around 7pm. Omar's is a quaint, little restaurant near Downtown Norfolk and thankfully it wasn't crowded at all. Our server, Braydon, quickly greeted us and was absolutely wonderful! He shared the specials of the night and gave us time to look over the menu. One of the appetizer specials was Fried Puffer Fish. As skeptical as we were, we had to try it out. We asked ourselves, "when would we get this opportunity again" lol. I also decided on the Walnut Bourbon Salmon and the Fireside Margarita. The Fried Puffer Fish had a very unique taste but it wasn't bad. I probably wouldn't eat it again but at least I got to experience it. The Walnut Bourbon Salmon tasted wonderful and was cooked perfectly. It sat on top of a Fried Polenta Cake but unfortunately, it was flavorless. The Smoked Cherry Tomatoes were also a bit bitter so I opted to not eat those either. My friend's ordered the Moroccan Chicken Tagine and the Braised Lamb Shank, which they both enjoyed. For dessert, we tried the Strawberry Whip Cake which was tasty and I ordered the German Chocolate Cake which was great. Overall, we had a great experience at Omar's. The parking was very limited but they do offer valet! Everyone was friendly and made us feel very welcome! If I'm ever in the area, I'd definitely return.

Omar's Carriage House is a nice little spot in Norfolk. The outdoor patio is cute, and it is especially nice on a warm spring/summer day. The inside gives a cottage core vibe. The service is wonderful, and everyone is so nice. This place has a nice American-Moroccan style menu. The first time we came here we got the Moroccan Tagine, and it came in a wonderful clay pot. The flavors were so savory, we had to come back. This time we got the mussels frites which the sauce was sooooooo good you could almost drink it. Nice and creamy, pairing well with the fries and mussels. The Belgium endive salad had wonderful flavors, creamy zest with dates and cranberries. It was a little pricey for what it is worth. The escargot was creamy, similar to spinach artichoke dip. They already removed the shells before serving, and I would say the sauce covers the taste of snail. The paella was delicious, so savory and the seafood pairings were so good. My favorite was the scallops. The garlic chive butter was really tasty with the bread. Although the bread was a little too crunchy overall. A must try in the Norfolk area! Thank you for having us~

A Brunch Gem - Delicious Food, Great Drinks, and Excellent Service Omar's Carriage House knows how to do brunch right. I made a reservation and was greeted immediately upon arrival. While I waited for the rest of my party, I sat at the bar and ordered an espresso martini--it was absolutely delicious, smooth, and expertly made. For brunch, I had the Funky French Toast with Nutella and bananas wow. It was rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I left completely full and happy. Our group of six all received their meals at the same time, and every single dish was spot on. Not a single complaint from anyone at the table. A quick tip: When making a reservation, request downstairs seating if you have anyone with mobility issues. There is an upstairs section, and we were originally assigned there, but the staff kindly accommodated us downstairs without any issue. Between the excellent service, amazing food, and cozy atmosphere, I'll definitely be back. Highly recommend!

Ambiance and service definitely 5 stars. The server Brayden was super friendly and attentive. When you enter the restaurant it's packed with delicious waft of food flowing from the kitchen and dining area packed with patrons on a Friday night. The menu has a good variety of choices from different proteins (lamb, steak, chicken, scallops, salmon, etc) to grains (couscous, risotto, etc). I ordered the lamb shank. While it has a lot of different spices, it lacked that basic pinch of salt. The portion was huge but it had way too much of the couscous. Thd strawberry (short)cake was typical so not worth the price.

Food, service and ambiance....all 100%. First time here was for the monthly wine dinner this past August. What an experience! We were seated upstairs, felt like being in your grandma's house with a peaceful dining room twist. The staff was so incredibly kind. The courses were all spectacular, the wines paired that night were all good and went perfectly with the food. I would love to go back during a regular service evening soon.

Highly recommend as a date night here and make a reservation ahead of time. We came here during restaurant week, but we will come back here again to try more food. Everything we ate felt super healthy and not heavy in our stomachs and the service was quick as well. The mussel appetizer was the most FLAVORFUL dish I have eaten in a long time. Parking here is street parking, but they also have a small parking lot for the restaurant.

I had won a gift card on IG and Yasmine expeditiously responded to my email regarding making a reservation this evening. They open 5pm Mon- Sat; 10am -2pm on Sunday. Yasmine was so nice & presented me with the beautiful gold envelope with the gift certificate upon being seated. Ambiance : It is an old carriage house from the 1940s. The original hay chute is open to the first floor but there are bars and a barrier for safety for those dining upstairs or downstairs. It's a charming quaint restaurant with character & simple elegance. For those that want to enjoy happy hour from 4pm-6pm there is a bar & large covered back patio seating. I am unsure if the upstairs is strictly for private events but Yasmine allowed us to look upstairs. It's a great space to hold an intimate wedding, birthday, bridal or baby shower or any special occasion. There isn't an elevator to the second floor & the restrooms are located downstairs. SERVICE: We dined on a Wednesday at 6pm and it wasn't crowded or super busy. Maybe due to the rain/poor weather but it was nice to dine in a quiet atmosphere. It was a very pleasant and calm enjoyable dining experience. Tables were bussed quickly & efficiently in a non disruptive manner. Our server Chris was pleasant and helpful with the menu. He also informed us it's burger night on Wednesdays: $10 burgers & $15 or $17 for bison burgers, as well as listed the specials-duck confit tacos or wonton something. He also checked in on us. Food: apps: Labneh - a new appetizer that has scallion pancakes with a yogurt dip with cucumber, tomato salad & zaatar. 5/5 flavorful comes with 8 triangles of scallion pancakes. complimentary bread roll each with garlic butter delicious! Slightly firm on the outside, soft on the inside (how I like it). MMMMMM.. good! 5/5 Potato chip encrusted flounder - a good portion, the creamed kale & roasted garlic was tasty. Chicken tagine- which was cooked in a tagine and arrived with its cover & presented once the cover was taken off. The chicken was so tender the bones came off easily. It came with saffron rice and it was very filling. We both couldn't finish our entrées so we boxed them to go. They do offer mocktails. I had the blueberry lemonade which was made from scratch. Desserts: My sister & I split the bread pudding. It was large enough and honestly if I had ordered it just for myself, it would have been too much. It's perfect for sharing, soft and soaked with English cream sauce & chocolate drizzle and whip cream. It was really good. All their desserts are made in house. Burger- I ordered one to go for my husband. It's a great restaurant for a calm, simple elegant atmosphere with history & wonderful food! Parking : street parking & valet parking Just make sure to read the street signs.

My favorite thing about Omar's is the ambiance. It feels like 1800's Norfolk which puts you in a different place in time. We started off with water and bread, which was good but needed the garlic butter to amplify it. The seared duck was amazing and filling. Wanted to try dessert but didn't have much room for it. Overall, I will be back to try the brunch when back home.

Omar's does somethings well while other things fall short. Showed up for brunch with a friend, started with the homemade donuts and it was delicious made fresh. Ordered the breakfast burger med rare and it showed up medium well at best. I dislike overcooked burgers hence why I ordered it a certain way. My friend had the BEC bacon egg n croissant, well the bacon was burnt and the croissant was burnt. They had the nerve to serve that burnt dish to her...smh. She was nice enough not to return it. This was very avoidable.

Every employee who passed by greeted us, which made the atmosphere feel especially welcoming. We started with the octopus, served with potato foam, pickled pear, and chorizo. For entrées, he ordered the duck and I had the pork bolognese. Both dishes were full of flavor and cooked perfectly. We also ordered drinks. I do wish they had come out a bit earlier so we could enjoy them sooner, but the selection was impressive. We chose the bartender's choice, which was a really fun experience. We had shared a couple of the small plates and enjoyed them both. We enjoyed the place so much that we decided to come back with a group of 14 for All Lovers Eve. Second time: Made the reservation with ease. If you've ever made a group reservation you know how complicated some places make it. This was a large group and they were short handed. This lead to a slower service which actually worked out well for our group. We didn't mind the gaps. They put us in their back room (hint - GREAT for groups) there was a little confusion with the order to include an extra dish we didn't order. We still ate it and paid for it though. Multiple cocktails that were all wonderful. My only real negative was that there was a $50 "loyalty club " charge that was never mentioned and I didn't even notice on the $1200.00 bill. This is, I believe, some sort of credit card fee. Both times were good. Both times staff were wonderful. Both times we were comfortable. Give the place a try. I don't think you will regret it.
