Like many of the others who have written reviews, I had heard about these tanks previously, but had yet to try it for myself. I love baths and do some meditation, but I wasn't sure I would enjoy 90 minutes of being immersed without any sounds (darkness doesn't bother me).
The owner did a great job explaining the procedure and what to expect. First, he took us down a blue hued hallway to our rooms. Each room has a clean robe, thick towel and washcloths, silicone ear plugs, q-tips and petroleum jelly for any cuts which would sting in the water, but also heal faster). He explained that you must shower before entering the chamber (they have organic, locally-made natural body wash and shampoo for you-please note the body wash has lavender, so in the event like me, you are allergic, BYOS in that case). You then climb into the tank and close the door. You are immediately enveloped in a warm pool of 94.5 degree bath water, about the same temperature as the human body, slightly cooler, of course. You sink only to about your ears; and then you are instantly floating. The soothing music that is playing helps get you relaxed-it is only on for the first 15 minutes and then you have about 90 of pure silence. You know your time is up when the chamber's aqua blue lights come on and the music starts again. You then have about 20 minutes to shower and get dressed. There's a separate room to dry your hair, put on makeup, etc. They thoroughly clean the tanks and put in fresh water after each use. -In case you were wondering.
The experience is unusual and very relaxing. I wasn't sure I could last the whole time; I get fidgety even when I meditate. Initially, it felt like I was floating in outer space, then cocooned in a womb-like atmosphere. I heard the soothing music go off at some point, but then I must have dozed off, because I lost all sense of time. When I came to, I floated around for a bit, enjoying the feeling of the water moving around me. I was determined to make it to the end music, and was so excited when it came on, because it meant I truly spent the entire time in there (wasn't sure I'd chicken out after 30 minutes).
The entire premises are immaculate. The soft, white leather couches when you come in are inviting. The space is very inviting and calming. There is a room to chill out post float if you're not ready yet to brave the world, filled with multicolored floor pillows, dim light. They have water bottles, hot tea and sell the natural products as well.
Be sure to realize you will be very relaxed. I almost walked out in front of a car, I was in a dream state.
If I was not moving out of the area, I would do their monthly package, which is extremely reasonably-priced. I guess I'll have to hope to find a place up there or just take a vacay to the Dead Sea. Pretty sure my bathtub cannot hold that much epsom salt.
For health purposes, magnesium is amazing for muscle soreness and relaxation, eczema and other non-contagious skin issues for healing. Taken internally (not from the bath, please), it helps with relaxing the intestinal tract and staves off hormone-induced migraines. Most people are magnesium deficient, so as the skin is the largest organ in the body, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of trying this out.
I slept well last night, but I sleep well most of the time.
It's worth the drive if you do not live locally.
