There are not a lot of cold plunges in the area and decided to go to Bethesda as I saw you could rent your own room with a sauna + cold plunge! I was very impressed with the set up. Got there at 8am in a Saturday and had a great time! Since I was the first one in there I believe the dry sauna was just getting warmed up and didn't get to really sweat from it but was able to sweat a bit before jumping into the cold plunge. A lovely spa! Hope Floats is a very clean and cozy space with friendly and helpful staff. The far infrared sauna is a lifesaver in this frigid winter. The private sauna rooms offer the sauna, a shower with soaps to clean off afterwards, and towels, robe, slippers, and a bottle of water. There is plenty of space for changing. We had a wonderful time celebrating my friends birthday at Hope Floats. None of us in the group had ever tried sensory deprivation tanks, so it was a new and interesting experience for all! Each of us received our own private room for the sensory deprivation tank, complete with a shower and toiletries for washing off before and after. After about an hour in the tank, we used their 2-3 person sauna. The staff was very knowledgeable and welcoming, and even laid out the champagne and snacks we brought in the reception area for us to enjoy after our floats. Bring your hair brush or comb from home if you need to restyle your hair after the tank, because your hair will certainly get wet. There is a room with mirrors and hair dryers supplied. We had our session in the evening, so I had no problem leaving my hair wet to return home. read more

A group of us tried the sensory deprivation experience for one hour. It was kind of interesting because you float in the dark for an hour and it first starts off with whale noises and music and then is completely silent. This experience is especially good for someone who practices mindfulness or meditation exercises. Overview: Visited for the first time and did a 30 min contrast therapy session followed by 60min float session. The owner's son manning the front desk was cordial and knowledgeable, definitely appreciate him- did a good job of explaining what to expect for my first time in contrast (cold plunge after sauna was painful but so worth it for the health benefits and after effects of relaxation!). Did 12 mins in IR (infrared) dry sauna with light therapy, then went straight into the cold plunge tank for 2 mins x2 rounds of this as recommended. Overall good experience! Loved: Interior of lobby/waiting area was cute. Love the look and feel of the IR sauna. Would I Recommend? Yes, for the contrast therapy. Float tank, just depends how picky you are. Suggestions for Improvement: 1. Found a hair floating in the cold plunge tank and float tank- while I understand it's similar to a public pool, it still was a bit gross and gives off the psychological impression it may not be the cleanest. Perhaps find some way to filter the hair out/have a staff member come in between each guest and manually scoop out. 2. Float tank seems older and not super aesthetically appealing, not sure if all tanks appear similar as the one I was in but perhaps invest in newer more modern looking equipment to create more of a "luxury service" feel and help with marketing in that respect. Appearance plays a huge role in customer experience and first impression. 3. The float tank I was in had an odd musty smell which was a bit distracting for the experience (and I do not have a sensitive nose as I'm usually quite congested). Wonder if there's any way to incorporate aromatherapy device inside float tank? 4. Head floatie rest didn't look the cleanest (I'm sure it was just the salt residue) but perhaps just switch it out to a completely dry one between guests for appearance purposes. read more

What a sweet and restful wellness spot nicely tucked away from Bethesda's growing skyline and road construction. Plenty of parking. I LOVED it. Lynette took great care of onboarding me. Very warm, open and authentic. The space is very clean and well-appointed. It was an excellent combo with my Puree 3 day juice feast. The juicefeast with the ulitmate sauna over the course of 3 days of Juicefeasting went well beyond my desired results. My score is a 10 - as I plan to return to the Ultimate Sauna and try out the Flotation tank and other services. I also appreciate having early morning appointment options. I will be back. This was my 3rd float and sauna experience and I loved it. The more you utilize this type of therapy, the better you get at it. The location is convenient with accessible parking. It's also a very beautiful and peaceful space. I like that everything is contained in one room so that you can shower and sauna or shower and float in the privacy of the room you're assigned. My skin loves the epsom salt. It glows after. Also, my lower back felt much better too. I've been experiencing some pain there and flotation helped it. Mentally, floating in a sensory deprivation tank allowed me to meditate, and ultimately I fell asleep. I'd never completely fallen asleep in the tank, but did this time. I think that I now receive the full benefit of the therapy. I look forward to including it in my monthly or bi-monthly self care routine. read more

I really enjoy floating or reduced environmental stimulation therapy so I was really looking forward to returning to Hope Floats to use a certificate given to me as a birthday gift. My float experience was far from relaxing due to loud environmental noise that I could hear and feel vibrations while underwater in an enclosed flotation pod. I wanted to leave the float session five minutes in but stayed and hoped the conditions would improve but they did not. The sounds/noises from pounding footsteps, wait room conversations, cleaning were jarring which made this float experience very stressful! read more

I loved my first float experience, at Mystic Wellness, but it was not convenient to get to (a 50 min drive) so I was excited when i found Hope Floats and was sure I'd love it. The reception area was very nice and there are several rooms with individual float pods. There bright overhead lighting in the room with my pod reassured me that everything was very clean, but I found the brightness to run counter to the relaxation i was there to find. The tank is fully enclosed, and felt a tad small for me when i first got in (I'm 5'9") but I eventually got in a position where i wasn't touching any of the sides . They play meditative music for first 10 mins and then it goes to silence for full sensory deprivation. My only complaint is that there didn't seem to be enough air flow inside the pod with the door closed, as i woke up out of my meditative state a few times feeling overheated, with drops of sweat running down my face. My first float experience was an open tank, so perhaps this would be my experience anywhere in a closed tank, but I didn't leave feeling as zen as I'd expected based on my first experience, and I think it's because i was too hot. I was still sweating when i left even though it was freezing outside! I'm planning on trying again with a different room to see if it was a fluke or if the experience will always be like that. read more

Yesterday was my first time at Hope Floats Bethesda! I am orginally from Hawai'i and used to going to the beach so I wanted to try this place out for some salt therapy on the East coast. Jamie, the front desk receptionist was very nice and accomadating about taking my husband and I 40 minutes early than our scheduled reservation. She offered us water and toured us around the facility. Jamie gave us pretty good instructions about how the floating therapy and machine worked. You basically get sent to a room that has a shower to rinse and wash after and the floating machine next to it. Theres soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels, robe, ear plugs, and q-tips. The floating machine has a door you open and close to get into the machine. If youre petite like me, the door can be a tad bit heavy to open and close. Be careful: when you are in the water and try to close the door, you can easily slip due to so much salt. When i tried closing the door at first, i slipped in the machine and got salt in my face. DO NOT GET SALT IN YOUR FACE AND OR EYES. I immediately had to open the door and sprayed non salt water on my face. There is a non salt water spray bottle and towel when you open the door. If youre afraid of the dark and enclosed areas you can leave the door semi shut with a towel (this is what i did). There is so much salt in the machine that you instantly float when you lay down! Overall, my experience was okay and I actually left the machine 15 minutes earlier and didnt finish my 60 minute session. Pros: i love that the machine is for individual use. When you are alone you can meditate, fall asleep, or just relax. You are also not stuck in the machine for the whole 60 minutes. You can leave the machine to use the restroom or wash your face and go back inside! It really can be relaxing and it was nice to be in "salt water" again. Cons: the machine I had was kind of smelly. Also, this black thing fell off the machine which also made me slip inside trying to put it back on (please see my photos). I wish there was shorter sessions. I can't see myself floating for over 60 minutes. It is also a bit pricey so i hope they can do shorter sessions with cheaper rates. I was told at the end of session that we can have music on. The music wouldve been really helpful throughout the session. Overall, it was a pretty good experience. Jamie, the receptionist was very kind and easy to talk to! Based on customer service and knowing they have a sauna, i will be back again! read more
