Baklava - A piece of baklava with a flaky, layered pastry and honey glaze is displayed inside a clear plastic container. The top is garnished with crushed pistachios, and honey has dripped onto the bottom of the container, with some crumbs visible. The background includes a metal mesh surface and a blurred outdoor setting.

Generous portions. Ordered the pork gyro and salad ... favorite was the greek salad. Baklava for dessert is always a treat.

We have been here twice now and while they prepare a reasonably tasty gyro, it has been a 3-star experience for us both times. This is an eat-in or take-out place that serves Greek/Mediterranean "fast-food" of various kinds including pizzas, soups and salads. In particular we are always on the search for delicious gyros so this is why we have visited Olympus. I grew up eating what I consider to be the best gyros outside of Greece which are in NYC. Olympus makes chicken, pork, lamb or beef gyros with the requisite tzatziki sauce inside a pita. We each ordered a pork gyro. The meat was tender and flavorful but we were disappointed that the sandwich was not warm. It was nicely filled and the pork was flavorful but I think it would have been much more enjoyable had the meat been warm or hot even and then each bite of the cool tzatziki would do what it does best which is to provide a cool, herby, garlicky, delicious contrast. The pita itself could also have easily also been warmed up. Instead it seemed taken as is out of a wrapper. The French fries were cut big and thick and were just okay. This may sound overly picky but the cut of the fries was not right for this plate. I would have preferred a smaller, thinner cut fries. Perhaps if I was at a restaurant serving big cuts of steak these fries would have better fit the bill. These fries were pale and bland and needed salt and pepper to jazz them up. Another minute in the fryer might also have helped. During our first visit, we ordered the gyros with a Greek salad instead of the fries; this was the better choice. Olympus is staffed by extremely friendly staff. You order at the counter and your food is then brought to your table. You bus your own table when you're done. There are no signs asking you to clear your table; it just seems like the right thing to do. But if cleaning up after yourself at a restaurant is not something you feel you should do, no one is going to stop you from leaving. We have been pleased to see how clean Olympus is kept although that said, I have not used the restroom. I hope it is as up to par as the rest of the place. It is bright and cheery inside and the prices are reasonable. We will definitely return and next time will try something other than the gyro. There are certainly quite a few things to choose from for a quick lunch or dinner. I suspect my rating will go up when trying other items as so many other reviewers have given Olympus 4 and 5 stars...I want to be clear this review is based just on my gyro experiences. I'll update when I return for something else.

Spanakopita has to be the best on the South Shore. I highly recommend coming in for some great Greek food. Owner is super friendly

Top - Olympus Grill Bottom - another local place my sister loves - The image shows two cups of soup on a wooden table. The top cup contains a light-colored, creamy soup with a metal spoon inserted. The bottom cup holds a different soup, possibly a broth or consomme, with a thin, translucent surface. The table surface is wooden, and there is a plastic or glass surface in the background. The photo is taken from above, capturing the cups and part of the table.

I got a quart of avgolemono soup last night and it was the saddest, wateriest thing ever. It had maybe 2 inches of rice and chicken at the bottom of the tub and no carrots. When a thing calls for only 5 ingredients, it's strange to leave it out. The soup totally lacked that silky taste and instead was chicken water with lemon? The rice was really nice, what there was of it. It was a bummer but hopefully just an off day!

Nice slab of fat in the "gyro" meat.

Well I've eaten at a lot of Greek restaurants here and in Greece and this is one of the best places I've ever been to, to have a good sit down Greek meal. Where I live there are great restaurants for any type of cuisine you can imagine and a great Greek restaurant but the one near me is more like the best fast food in Greece. (A gyro wrap is the most traditional Greek fast food you can get). If people every ask me where to go to try other great Greek dishes, I will tell them to go there, 10 minutes from where I live and and on the eat home come by and drop off their left overs. They accommodated us for a table of 7 and although it can be a bit loud, you can still talk to anyone in your party. But i would recommend getting a reservation so you don't have to rely on luck like we did. The prices might be a little higher than some of your typical sit down restaurants, but worth every penny.

My rookie mistake was not making a reservation on a Saturday night, but luckily, there were seats at the bar. The decor is simple yet stylish, but the vibe really stands out. IT was warm, lively and inviting. Every single staff member was welcoming and even the customers were friendly. This has been one of the best dining experiences I have experienced since moving to MA. The food was so good that I actually made the drive back and yes, I drove an hour there to eat (2 hours round trip). It's one of the best Greek food I've had in a long time, it is comparable to what I enjoyed when I visited Greece. For salads, the Horiatiki salad is a must. Appetizers, Kataifi shrimp was perfectly fried with a sauce that is sweet with a hint of spice. But, the grilled octopus, this is a must. You have to order it. I have not found a spot that cooks grilled octopus this good anywhere in NYC or here. This dish has brought me back to Greece. If you are dining with a large group, go for the Giovetsi Thalassinon. One of my absolute favorite dishes at Kosmos. The pasta grains are cooked perfectly, and the generous portion of seafood make it worth every penny. My wife and I like to call it a Greek paella. For meat lovers, the Poikia Keaton is also really good with different grilled meats on the dish. If they have any specials that night or day, you must try one of them. Overall, Kosmos delivers on everything; great food and warm hospitality which makes the drive worth it. This is hands down my favorite restaurant up here at MA.

The menu refers to these as "Greek cheese bread" but somehow that doesn't do it justice - these were immensely pillowy and cheesy, with an amazing crust, with homemade honey butter on the side. I could have had just these for dinner and been satisfied. They really nailed the bread. My other favorites: 1. Hipiti: spicy whipped feta with crispy potatoes on the side. I don't do well with spice but I absolutely loved this. 2. Marouli: winter lettuce with the most amazing vinaigrette dressing. My only knock to this is, presentation-wise, they serve it with half of the plate empty and the other half with salad. I don't understand why restaurants do this because - one, it only highlights the smaller portion and two, we're just going to mix the salad all around in the bowl anyway. 3. Boudeto: daily catch in a beautiful tomato broth. For a seafood dish at a restaurant in Back Bay, this was priced at a fairly reasonable $28. The only dish that fell a little flat for me was the tzatziki - needed a bit more seasoning. As it was, I was eating mostly just plain yogurt. The table-side preparation was cool, though. The space is its own visual dinner, there's simply a lot to look at (including a drawing of Poseidon riding a surf board). We got the big table in the back, which was a beautiful glass structure with a whole terrarium underneath. We couldn't stop marveling at it throughout the meal. Our waiter was wonderful - very helpful recommendations, came by to check on us often even though we were pretty far in the back, super patient with our questions. Hard to get reservations but worth it! Don't bother driving / trying to find parking unless you're willing to eat a hefty garage fee, it's Back Bay.
