Terrible food. Terrible service. Decent location. We ordered a burger and the kalua pork burrito. They asked how we wanted the burger cooked. Told the waitress medium. Took one bite of the burger and it was burned. Since our waitress was no where in site for at least 5 minutes, and I was hungry, I took down as much of it as I could. AFTER the meal was finally over the waitiress stopped over. We told her the burger was burned. Her response was well you ate half of it there's nothing I can do now. Not even an apology from her. We weren't looking to get the meal taken off the check, merely an apology would have been nice. The burrito was just okay. For the $14 price tag that comes with it I would save your money and go elsewhere. read more

I do not recommend this place at all. My family and I arrived around lunch time (my mom, husband and three little kids) and it took a while to be seated. The waitress was not friendly at all. She looked mad the entire time and didn't smile once. I ordered the "fresh fish tacos" and they were absolutely disgusting. They tasted like they had frost bite. The flavor was horrible. Not only that but it was just cubed fish in a tortilla...no yummy white sauce and lettuce/tomatoes that usually accompany fish in a fish taco. It came with rice and black bean on the side and the beans were horrible! I had fish tacos at Duke's in Lihue and they were amazing!! My mom had a burrito and she couldn't even eat it because the flavor was horrible. The kids got basic kid foods although they "don't have a kids menu" so you are forced to purchase an adult sized meal. My four year olds chicken tender plate was insane. He seriously got about 8 strips and a huge portion of waffle fries. The waitress rarely checked on us, never smiled and didn't ask us how our food was when we were done. Had she asked we would have told her most of it was in edible. Save your time and money and eat somewhere good. This place was very expensive, the service was horrible and the food disgusting....For a good meal I highly recommend Duke's in Lihue, Scotty's BBQ in Kapaa and Joes on the Green in Poipu. read more

The food here was great and the views were also great! I love the town of Kapaa and you can overlook the town at some tables! The waiters were super friendly and very polite! They have a big menu and lots to choose from! The first time I went I ordered a fish taco and it was amazing! The second time we ordered a salad and quesadilla to share, and they were both delicious! The servings sizes are HUGE, so I suggest splitting a meal with someone unless you're starving! I definitely recommend this if you're in Kapaa. read more

It was my birthday and I went there for the kauai mud pie, one of my favorite things and they said sorry were closed. It was 10:02 and they closed at 10:00. Thats all I was looking foward to for the whole day. The overall appearance of the place is really dirty. The stairs and tables are just super sticky. The food isn't that great. All I like is their mud pie. It is my favorite thing! I would go there more often if it wasn't so dirty. Also the outfits that the waitors and waitress have to wear are really bad. This was a good place to stop for dinner on the way home from a long day on the beach. We were tired and needed a quick meal and drink, and it was very pleasant. We had fish and chips and a burger, and the staff was generally friendly. Get a booth or table by the road, and you'll feel the vibe of the town from outside. CUSTOMERS BEWARE!!!!! I have eaten at this cafe a few times, the food is plenty and fair in taste. However the people that work at this restaurant are RUDE! I live on the Island for over 30 years and I have never been so insulted as a customer! We had to wait at least 15 minutes before we were acknowledged! (" This always happens each time I have gone"). Then she rushed us in our decision on our order!! It seemed like we were a bother! Apparently she (our waitress) was also the bartender. I could understand this behavior if it was busy, but only had a handful of people! As we were ending our lunch, I needed to go use the restroom...... which is outside of the restaurant and downstairs, so there was a employee behind the bar, I told the young lady that I was going to the restroom, ( there is a code) so I got the code from the hostess! Went downstairs, use the restroom, had a smoke, then took a peek inside the shop which is located directly under the Olympic Cafe. Next thing I knew our waitress came storming into the shop and started scolding me like a child! I just stood there in shock, she stormed out of the shop and I followed her upstairs. Tried to explain to her that I told the girl behind the bar that I was going downstairs, she (waitress/bartender) told me "NO YOU DIDN'T"! I have been looking for you for the last 20 minutes!!?? I have never, ever been treated like this, accused of lying and trying to walk out on the bill!!!! Really..... I would never ever recommend this restaurant to anyone! In all my years of living on Kauai I have never been treated so poorly as a paying customer! And I left a tip!!! My friend that was with me called and spoke to the manager on duty and she basically sugarcoated the whole situation and really did not hear what we were trying to get across! Cross your heart Catholic style when you mention the name of this place. My wife and I eat here often, in the two weeks we stay on Kauai. Great fish tacos. She loves the cobb salad. The beer is cold, the wine liberal, the clientel a mix of island visitors and local folks. Can't beat the location (for Kapa'a), overlooking the street, across from the ABC store, we prefer to sit street side. But the ocean-side tables are nice, too. And plenty of breezes. Ive been there twice and its been great both times. From burrito to burger to the thai pasta (really good actually) it was right on target! Not too expensive. Got seated quickly and waited on properly. It's kind of "sports bar meets ma and pa kitchen" but the TV's are NOT IN YOUR FACE like sports bars usually are. Good drinks too. My wife and I spent the day on Kauai - this was our early evening spot for a couple drinks and awesome appetizers. This place is cool - it's open air on the 2nd floor with a nice overlook of Kapaa town and some peek-a-boo views of the ocean. Knowing, how local competition works in small towns, I can tell you those overly negative reviews are from competitors who probably don't stack up. Great mid price pick. Lots of good choices. The Mai Tais today were particularly lethal. My husband and I ordered the seared Ahi appetizer to start and it was so good we ordered a second one, a huge treat and a highly recommend. Hula pie or Kauai pie, whatever it is. Share with at least 3 other people, it's huge and very sweet with the quart of ice cream each slice seems to contain. Burgers were good. Everything is fairly priced and the portions are all large. One more thing. At the height of the busy Christmas/New Year vacation their staff were so good. Since olympic cafe moved from where the Mexican restaurant is until a few weeks ago my wife and I ate there every weekend. The food is great, the staff is great. However the building is dangerous, 3 weeks back I slipped o the stairway and slid halfway down. The stairway into this place when wet is a death trap. Simple weekly maintenance would make it safe. The restaurant staff admitted that I was not the first to take the plunge down the stairs, even the owner has slipped on these stairs. I could have went to the emergency room and the filed suit, but im not like that. I expect the owner of the building and the restaurant to be like that also and keep the place safe. I went back a week after I fell, the stairs were still caked with slime. read more

SO, i usually enjoy eating here. I have had a few so so incidents in which the services was not so great but overall i've always had a pretty good meal here. I have to say that the owner is not very customer friendly. I had lunch with a friend there recently and she ordered something that she didn't realize was spicy. She asked for something different to eat, we didn't ask for any free hand outs but the owner who i guess also moonlights as the restaurants cook took it upon himself to read her the riot act about why the meal she ordered was SUPPOSE to be spicy and he didn't understand why she ordered it if she doesn't like spicy. My friend tried to explain that she didn't realize it was spicy but he just continued to be EXTREMELY RUDE! We confronted him about his rudeness but i guess because he is the owner he feels that regardless of if you're a PAYING customer or not NOT he can talk and treat you anyway he feels. It's quite a shame because i really enjoyed going there but i cannot see myself giving this man my business ever again. I've heard he has done this to several customers and does not treat his staff well. I WOULD STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE! there's way better places to eat on Kauai ;) read more

Had the Coconut Shrimp and Fried Zucchini for appetizers, then had the Macadamia Nut and Papaya Ono fish dinner, then Macadamia Nut pie. All were quite delicious. The discouraging thing was that before we made the order I had questioned their waitress about it and had been assured it will be tender and super-juicy.If they manage to kill ono that bad, I can't even imaging how their ahi will taste. The salad looked good, but the taste was blank and most of it was actually salad leaves. I would take a smaller portion, but please leave this sluggish grass in a kitchen. If you do add green salad leafs to you tropical salad - make sure you add the crispy parts and chop it to smaller pieces. Combining some previous reviews with our experience, I think the place targets a mediocre mainland taste, with huge portions of eatable stuff. Food is good but obnoxiously too large for human consumption. They indicate "NO SUBSTITUTIONS" on a lot of their menu items and their wait staff abide that rule like the law of the land. I questioned this no substation law with the manager and he basically said it was a lame rule the owner created to force the customers to order a side of the item they wanted to substitute. In my case, they offer a 2x2x3 (2 pancakes 2 eggs and 3 sausage OR 3 bacon). I asked if I could get 2 bacon and 1 sausage, and was met with rigid pushback from the restaurant staff. The 2nd floor restaurant has sweeping views of downtown Kapa'a, but the closed in structure offers very little air movement which causes the restaurant to become VERY stuffy. Great place to sweat while you eat oversized food. The only bathroom is located out the front door of the restaurant and downstairs, and is always messy and smells like urine, not to mention you'll need to remember a long numbered access code to gain entry to the bathroom. I'm not sure we will return to this restaurant during this stay or any future stay and would not recommend this restaurant to travelers looking for that flexible and fun Hawaiian restaurant. read more
