Enjoyed our late lunch after a hike. We walked here from our condo and back, which was a great idea, as we had the Kauai Pie for dessert. Arg! Don't do it with less than 4 people! YIkes, our guide wasn't kidding when it had the pie as consisting of a half gallon of ice cream. Very delicious, with half chocolate and half Kauai Pie, which is coconut flakes, mac nuts in Kona Coffee ice cream. So, onto the main meal. I had the Tropical Salad, papaya, mango, lettuce, papaya dressing, toms, cucumbers, and croutons, tasty and light! My spouse had the daily special, which was a French toast with ham, cheese and pineapple. Too sweet for me, but he liked it. In the end, we really enjoyed our street view, the quiet environment, and all the servers who were friendly and helpful. read more

SO, i usually enjoy eating here. I have had a few so so incidents in which the services was not so great but overall i've always had a pretty good meal here. I have to say that the owner is not very customer friendly. I had lunch with a friend there recently and she ordered something that she didn't realize was spicy. She asked for something different to eat, we didn't ask for any free hand outs but the owner who i guess also moonlights as the restaurants cook took it upon himself to read her the riot act about why the meal she ordered was SUPPOSE to be spicy and he didn't understand why she ordered it if she doesn't like spicy. My friend tried to explain that she didn't realize it was spicy but he just continued to be EXTREMELY RUDE! We confronted him about his rudeness but i guess because he is the owner he feels that regardless of if you're a PAYING customer or not NOT he can talk and treat you anyway he feels. It's quite a shame because i really enjoyed going there but i cannot see myself giving this man my business ever again. I've heard he has done this to several customers and does not treat his staff well. I WOULD STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE! there's way better places to eat on Kauai ;) read more

Tasty breakfast. Reasonably priced, with good, friendly staff. Great for pupus, dinner, tropical cocktails and dessert too. Had the Coconut Shrimp and Fried Zucchini for appetizers, then had the Macadamia Nut and Papaya Ono fish dinner, then Macadamia Nut pie. All were quite delicious. The only good thing was their beer - it was cold and they had a variety. It also was $3.75 for a pint, which is nice on Kauai. The food was disappointing! Their ono fish was SUPER dry. The discouraging thing was that before we made the order I had questioned their waitress about it and had been assured it will be tender and super-juicy.If they manage to kill ono that bad, I can't even imaging how their ahi will taste. The salad looked good, but the taste was blank and most of it was actually salad leaves. I would take a smaller portion, but please leave this sluggish grass in a kitchen. If you do add green salad leafs to you tropical salad - make sure you add the crispy parts and chop it to smaller pieces. Combining some previous reviews with our experience, I think the place targets a mediocre mainland taste, with huge portions of eatable stuff. The only reason I can think of going there while on Hawaii vacation is for a beer. Cheers! read more

Food is good but obnoxiously too large for human consumption. They indicate "NO SUBSTITUTIONS" on a lot of their menu items and their wait staff abide that rule like the law of the land. I questioned this no substation law with the manager and he basically said it was a lame rule the owner created to force the customers to order a side of the item they wanted to substitute. In my case, they offer a 2x2x3 (2 pancakes 2 eggs and 3 sausage OR 3 bacon). I asked if I could get 2 bacon and 1 sausage, and was met with rigid pushback from the restaurant staff. The 2nd floor restaurant has sweeping views of downtown Kapa'a, but the closed in structure offers very little air movement which causes the restaurant to become VERY stuffy. Great place to sweat while you eat oversized food. The only bathroom is located out the front door of the restaurant and downstairs, and is always messy and smells like urine, not to mention you'll need to remember a long numbered access code to gain entry to the bathroom. I'm not sure we will return to this restaurant during this stay or any future stay and would not recommend this restaurant to travelers looking for that flexible and fun Hawaiian restaurant. read more

Loved this place. We went here three times for lunch during our ten day stay. The fish tacos were the best we had during our trip. Very nice varied options for seating including ocean view. The roadside seats pulled us in (as well as the easy parking). Service was average, food was below average (don't order the moy special sandwich - globs of pesto on stale, over-oiled bread), and restaurant was dirty. By chance I saw the kitchen as I was walking to the dirty (surprise!) bathrooms, and immediately felt ill... Chaotic, messy working area and dirty floors. I would start off by saying don't believe any of the 5 star reviews, they are obviously fake. Here is my experience, we got there, place was half busy, they sat 5 of us at a table meant for 4. We were attempting to get a quick meal before our flight out. That did not happen 45 minutes later we received our food. I ordered the $17.00 chicken finger plate, I wasn't that hungry and was going to split them with my daughter. Long story short, 4 of the 6 fingers we got were stuck together, meaning the $17.00 chicken fingers were from a frozen bag and that the cook didn't even attempt to pull them apart before frying them. Well I pulled them apart, everywhere they were connected was just grey and soggy. I mean how hard is it to screw up cooking previously frozen chicken fingers. Well apparently it can be done. I complained to the waiter, who said he went to his manager...long story short they did nothing other than charge us $17.00 for some inedible food. Kapaa and society as a whole would be better if this restaurant closed its doors forever. read more

We just had a terrible experience at this establishment. First, it's a slow night, and we waited forever to see a waitress. We were seated at a sticky table with 2/3 of the silver wear -- no knives unless you requested them. Second, we had three small children. There's no kids menu --and the menu is 4-pages single spaced, so there kitchen obviously isn't overworked. When we asked about what the options for children, we were told that they could make suggestions but had to order off the menu they had. Ok. So they had typical bar food, so we ordered them chicken tenders and French fries. They were $17 and $18 each, and came out on platters. Seven huge tenders and a plate full of fries. Each. They couldn't get through half of it. It was ridiculous. No one should eat that much food in one sitting. And the food took forever to come out of the kitchen. It was unreal! We were there for a good hour before we saw food. Or knives. Or water refills. Finally the bill comes and for 5 of us it was $120 -- with the gratuity written in on our credit card bill by the waitress! So NOT recommended for children, families, people who like silverware or normal portions, or not being totally ripped off. read more

OK...went back for lunch and realized i was a bit too generous on my breakfast review. pork sandwich was okay. son got a burger with moldy bun. asked for a new one and they brought another moldy one(even though it was obvious there was mold). I get it that things get moldy very easy here, but on the 2nd try the server should have paid extra care to open her eyes before giving the replacement. Then he bit into the burger and said it tasted funny. I thought it was him overthinking things because of the moldy start. I took a bite of the meat and it tasted weird. Then i smelled the meat and it was all wrong. At this point just wanted to finish my beers with friends and make kids happy. Gave them some money and told them to go downstairs to HeeFat and get a shaved ice(best around). They brought it up and the staff refused to let them eat it because of the "no outside food rule" After all of the bad food they didnt bend to make up for it. BS. Screw them read more

I've always heard amazing things about this place so we decided to try it out for breakfast. The view from the restaurant is pretty amazing, you can see the main street of kapaa. & the staff were really friendly/approachable. The food however, not so amazing. We went during breakfast & i ordered the spinach scramble. The side choices were toast, home fries or white rice, i opted for white rice. Our food got there quickly. & it looked decent. (Forgot to take a photo) but when i bit into my egg scramble, the artichoke hearts were still a little hard to chew through. My main complaint & reason why i'm reviewing is that there were so many eggshells in my food i couldn't get past 6 bites. Every other bite there was an egg shell. The shells were small but it is soooooo unpleasant to be chewing on eggshells. It was super disappointing especially since that breakfast was $14. I would give them another try but maybe for lunch or dinner where hopefully no eggshells will be involved. read more

Don't bother. Canned black beans with dry cold fish tacos. My husbands blackened fish was supposed to come with potatoes and came with balls of cold rice. The Mai tais were watered down. And the waitresses were all eating off "mistakes" in a table in the dining room. read more

Ouch- never given a two star before. This is based only on vibe, not food. Just came to have dinner and felt so unwelcome. Had a drink and left. Sorry, but regardless if you are a tourist, staff can be nice and smile and pretend they are happy you are there? We always seek out local spots when traveling vs tourist traps and we were bummed. We have driven by this place for several months and finally decided to try it after seeing the food photos on yelp. The service was great and the food presentation was wonderful. Standard pub grub at best. We saw waitresses using straws to take drinks from a customer's frozen drink before serving it. The straws were new and they used the stick it in and put your finger over the top method so they didn't contaminate it. still very unsettling, we left after seeing this. read more

We picked this place as our last stop of our honeymoon before heading to the airport for some breakfast. I loved the location of it and we got seated right away and the hostess was super nice. We had awesome seats which were right by the windows. Our waitress was nice at the beginning saying she was "thankful" that we ordered the portuguese sausage right....okay. Then, thats when the greatness ended for me. Our waitress never came back once except to leave us our check at the end. Isn't that crazy?!?! I ordered the California Omelette which had NASTY avocado on the top but the omelette was cooked good. My hubby had the pancakes and port sausage which he said wasn't as good as Kountry Kitchen. So, needless to say, we were super bummed about the service and quality of food for such a great spot!! Hopefully, they amp things up next time we head over to Kapaa. Food pretty good. We had 3 kids and 3 adults. We shared 4 dishes and drank water. Service very average. We were sat in the way back and cushions were all ripped. Not sure why this place is olympic...They get no medals from us. This was the only place on our entire trip where the service was below average, food mediocre, and attitude was non aloha. Our bruschetta had a weird garlic powder Staleness to it and the fish tacos were dry (meat) and soggy(tortillas). We went on a saturday night, nice hostess got us a table with a great view (the only positive). Felt like I was back in new York...waitresses looked like they hated life, came to check on us once and was at the bar the rest of the time or nowhere to be found. We ordered coffees (which were quite tasty and large) and the waitress attempted to explain why we would have to purchase a separate coffee for 2.90 to get it to-go even though we only had a few sips thus far and told her it was getting late and we had a long drive home. Her explanation still made no sense but we did get refills nonetheless. My boyfriend then went to the car to get our empty cups (if they don't want to "waste money on cups" we can bring our own right?!) and when he had barely sat back down the hostess came over immediately and said the manager would like to see what was in the cup. We showed her it was empty and she scurried away. We ended up staying to finish the coffees out of guilt and walked out hardly seeing any staff to greet or thank us for coming in. We just finished eating here and I would not recommend this place to anyone. The service was mediocre, I don't think we got one smile until the waitress handed us the bill (coincidence?). They get the one star because my boyfriend started to feel sick even before he finished his meal and threw up not even 5 minutes after leaving the restaurant. I don't like to write bad reviews but this place was so awful I just had to warn others to stay away. . . The service is mediocre at best but the food and drinks are just terrible. I ordered the fish tacos, the menu stated that these were the best fish tacos on the island. These were the worst fish tacos I have ever had. I took a bite and couldn't even eat it. The rice that came with the tacos appeared to be from the day before, crusted over and just not good. Even the black beans were bad. The shredded cheese and chopped lettuce were the best items on that plate. Needless to say, I got sick from this food. My husband ordered the fried chicken special after the waitress talked about how delicious it was . . .it was just ok. The one drink we did order was icy and tasted more like a slushy than a real drink. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED . . . .STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Cool scenery, bad food and even worse Management. I ordered the ahi wrap, the fish was gross and had a weird consistency. All I could taste was the wasabi sauce. When I told our server i didn't like it she asked me why then sent over the manager. The manager was beyond rude! She wouldn't accept the fact that I didn't like it and gave me a hard time, then she proceeded to tell me that it was exactly like the description on the menu. Because she was so rude I decided against ordering anything else and asked for the check. Our waitress was great and apologized for her manager.
