I have never been disappointed at the Olney Grille. I enjoyed Happy Hour and dinner with a companion this past Saturday night, May 12, 2018. Dan's Crab Bisque is out of this world and the crab cakes were excellent. In addition to the excellent food we had the pleasure of being served by Mima who has been with Olney Grille for twenty-six years and is a great server as well as a wonderful, pleasant person. Sitting back sucking my teeth with a toothpick held in my cheek..Aah! Getting off work late doesn't leave me with alot of eating options. But we caught Olney Grille a half hour before closing. It's definitely like stepping into a late 70's restaurant; in a good way. Seated right away, ordered within 5 mins, and piping hot order was out 10 mins afterwards. And boy it was good! This is definitely one of those place where "you are always glad you came". Very simple menu but the food is good as comfort food goes. The service is hit and miss but mostly hit. The wait staff have a good grasp of the menu. The decor is exactly what you would expect of a small town restaurant. While the decor is dated, it is clean and cozy. The only changes I would make is to update the bathrooms, seating and increase the lighting. The bar area is small but that's not how they make their money so I get it. If you find yourself in Olney, give them a shot. If you live in Olney, I doubt you care about this review. read more

That this place was filled on a Sunday night points to the fact that there is little competition in the area. Based on our two dishes, we will not return. The food resembles take-out deli fare, but the prices do not reflect that. When a sandwich is advertised as "grilled chicken," one assumes that the chicken will be grilled, and hot. Not so. The processed, sodium-laden chicken was no doubt straight out of the Sysco plastic bag, served cold. The whole grain bread was cold and flabby, the tomato mushy. The hamburger, which was served on a cold bun, was heresy, left half eaten. (Apparently, one must ask to have the bun toasted. Who knew?) Cole slaw had zero flavor. Do yourself a favor: save your dollars and go to Five Guys on the other side of the road. read more

Ok so look I use to go here all the time the food is pretty good but I gotta say this visit was the worst experience by far. I don't recall my waitresses name but she had short blonde hair. She took our order and the last thing I asked for was a margarita which you need a form of ID for so I pulled my passport out for her to check.........she just stood there staring at it then says it is expired......I didn't understand be cause I get drinks at other bars the only thing I could think of the expiration date really effecting would be me leaving the country (obviously in this situation that is not what I'm doing). She then says she needs her manager to check it. She comes back apologizing that she can not serve me because it expired in 2013.... (that's when I got it) it expires on the 1st of December of 2023. She still refused to serve my drink. I have called the manager/ owner and she acted as if she or her employee did the right thing.....the right thing would have been to learn how to read a passport. I use to work at a restaurant I know you need to look out for fake IDs and stuff of that sort but come on man know how to do your job. read more

I gave this place 5 stars not because it is the best eatery in Montgomery County whether rating for food, atmosphere, service etc....but because it combines all of the above pretty darn well. My wife and i have been going there 2-3 times a month for years now. Even when we don't get seated right away, the wait in the bar is short and the bar area itself is pleasant. Although i would prefer a bar that isn't in the restaurant seating area, which this is. The food is very good to excellent without any of the pretensions or prices of higher end places. There is a good selection of appetizers, seafood (their fish esp), sandwiches, steaks and salads. The clientele ranges from old timers to families with kids. It is not a place for 20 somethings to hang out and meet similar types. In fact, the customers pretty much reflect Olney itself - some retirees, some families, and a mix of 30-50 year old couples. The service is always fast and the wait staff very pleasant. The tables are clean and the decor is up to date and modern. It's not fancy, but for a drinks, a good meal (look for their fish specials) and nice dessert menu, if not a liqueur and coffee...you really can't beat it. read more

I really wanted to like this place. Since moving to the Silver Spring / Aspen Hill area, it has been a struggle to find restaurants of the caliber that we were used to down in the Alexandria area. I was hoping Olney Grille would be the neighborhood place I've been craving. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. Walking in, as other have stated, the decor and ambiance were nice. We were off a good start. We were seated quickly, and our waiter came and took our drink orders promptly. We looked through the menu, and found some things my picky partner would eat. He settled on ribs, and I on the "Devil's Pasta" Our first clue that things were going to end badly was the waiter saying he would be back in a few minutes with our meal. The statement/warning really was "We're going to go get your feed out of the warming trays or big vat", not the more preferred "we're going to go cook your meal." True to his word, he arrived back less than 5 minutes later with our meals. First, to discuss the ribs. A half-rack was ordered; a half-rack was delivered. But it was the most pathetic half-rack of ribs I've ever seen. Almost no meat on any of the bones. What was there was mostly fat and gristle. I would be embarrassed to serve something like that. Plenty of fries ( just OK) and slaw. The bottom line -- my partner simply didn't end up with enough food to be satisfying. A half rack from every other restaurant is very filling. The Devil's Pasta was served in a deep oval dish. When it arrived, I couldn't even see the pasta due to to chicken and andoille sausage on top (which is a good thing -- lots of "good stuff"!). Unfortunately, the chicken was fatty and grisly. I only got a real spice "kick" on one piece of sausage. The pasta was unremarkable. The dish includes big pieces of grilled portabello mushrooms; they seemed out of place. I will agree with others that have stated that the rolls were good; yes, they were fresh and hot for certain. Our non-alcoholic drinks were good. Our meals simply were not. We may try again one more time; we arrived an hour before closing, and perhaps they weren't on their A-game. But honestly, the kitchen faux pas's we experienced are inexcusable. read more

The Olney Grille has always been a hit these past 20+ years but last night's dinner entree was a huge disappointment. The ribeye steak special was a thin over-seasoned, greasy grizzly piece of meat which did not deserve the title of "steak". When the waiter returned to our table to ask how everything was I shared with him my disappointment. I received no response or concern on his part to find management. I am in Olney often at the Olney Theatre and enjoy a pre-show dinner. I have never been to the Olney Grille and decided to give it a try. It was very good. I had the meatloaf and my dining companion had the crab cake. Both entrees were excellent and the price was right. Service was good, too. I was very impressed with the food. It is good classic American food without the gimmick or the schtick you get when they try to do American with a twist. I will go again! read more

My wife and I have lived in the area for almost 30 years and wondered why we almost NEVER frequent this restaurant. Simply put, there's no reason to! I had the Grilled Sesame Chicken Salad Marinated and grilled chicken breast with Fresh Spinach, Spring mix, red onion, jicama, cucumber, red pepper and Soy Vinaigrette. At best, it could be described as uninspired. The chicken breast was pounded thin and coated with a gummy paste that included a lot of sesame seeds. Edible but not very good. My wife ordered the Apple Smoked BLT Apple wood smoked bacon with melted Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise on toasted multigrain. Again, it was edible but not something I would pay for. Total bill including one draft beer was over $30. read more

Great hidden gem! I can tell that only older Olney residents knew of the restaurant. I went with my girlfriend on a Sunday night, around 6 p.m., and we got seated immediately. Our waitress was extremely friendly and was very knowledgeable of the menu. The menu is CRAZY diverse, even offering raw oysters which I couldn't help but order (very meaty but a bit pricey). For entrees, we ordered the Cajun Chicken Sandwich and the Blackened Sea Scallap Pasta. Both were delicious. The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because it's a bit pricey. Our dinner was around $50 (including tip). A nice place for that fancy dinner once in a while, but not an everyday spot. read more

Have been to the Olney Grille numerous times over the last 4 years. Today's experience was bad. The food was marginal, prices too high compared to the quality of the food, and I must say, I perceived discrimination on the part of wait staff and mgmt. Took a friend (who is from West Africa) to mid-day dinner. Her steak was not good..I encouraged her to send it back (I've worked in the restaurant business myself). The first waiter couldn't speak to us, and asked who our waiter was. Our waiter appeared, I said my friend's steak is bitter...he looked at my friend, and said "What do you mean by bitter?" I replied.."Bitter...you know what that means." He then said he had to go get someone else...I assume the manager of the day (a woman). She gruffly took the food back and asked what my friend wanted. Not a good place...food below par, attitudes bad and too expensive for the poor food. This is too bad...the Olney Grille was very good for the past 4 years. I took my 2 kids and a friend here for lunch. We ordered appetizers, which were tasty, I ordered the po'boy l, my friend ordered the blt and I ordered the chicken fingers for one child and the children's salmon for my daughter. For the most part the food was good. I noticed that my daughter wasn't eating and I asked her if her food was ok. She said it didn't taste good and asked to share with my other child. So I tried her salmon and it was extremely dry and extremely bland. It tasted awful. I would have let it go except when I got the bill her meal cost more than mine so I asked to be comped for her meal. The manager refused and said she had eaten half of it. If 2 bites is half a piece of salmon it shouldn't cost 14.95. The food is so-so, but the service is horrible. read more

The service here is pretty bad. My friend has a few dietary restrictions, but they were not accommodating and responded tersely to requests. Very disappointed, ordered the prime rib special medium well. The edges of the prime rib were pink and tender, the middle was like shoe leather. I was only able to eat the outside pieces, could not cut the middle. When waitress came at end of meal and asked if I would like a box considering a majority of my my meal was left I let her know that I did not care for the prime rib at all. No response was given. I asked before ordering if she would recommend the prime rib and if it was very tender to which she gave an affirmative response. read more
