Really nice vibes here at this neighborhood spot. From the gruff local having a few whiskeys mid-day, wondering why his wife left him and how he became a part-time computer science teacher at the local middle school to the group of lovely old ladies chatting about past adventures, this place is real and wholesome. A fairly good spread of food options, with lots of good deli-style sandwiches and simple side selections. Lots of good homemade, heartier meal options as well for those with grumbling stomachs or people that need to stress eat during this current presidential administration, we've all been there. Staff was super awesome, with great food recommendations and great attitude. Very helpful and we all had great meals thanks to her menu guidance. Strong coffee to end the meal, and a nice time for everyone. Lots of good seating for a family gathering or watching some sports with friends. We were new to the Olney Grille, going there to celebrate my dad's 75th birthday. Our party of seven had, apparently, two waitresses, which seemed like overkill, but it wasn't too busy when we first got there for our reservation. My parents arrived about ten minutes early, and they were immediately seated. We showed up on time and were immediately provided menus. Having never been there, and having to order for three kids also, we weren't the fastest out of the gate with ordering. The waitresses came back a total of three times asking if we were ready. (Sometimes, more is not better, like when it involves more waitstaff asking if you are *ready* to order, or *ready* to turn over your plate towards the end of the meal.) We did finally order, and the food came out correctly and was fine. I ordered a salmon special that seemed like there would be some spice involved, but I was disappointed in its lack of heat. It was fine tasting, but not what I was anticipating. Everyone else liked their food, so I won't fault the food. I won't rave, but I won't fault either. It's on the pricier side, so that added to the level of my disappointment that an item with a horseradish sauce has no discernible level of spice to it. Towards the end of the meal, we were feeling increasing pressure to vacate our tables, as the place was crowding up, and my husband could see and overhear the waitstaff being told that they have other reservations and our tables were needed. :\ We rushed the kids through their desserts (not all three kids ate their meals, so we were trying to get calories in them somehow at that point, but the waitstaff would not wait any longer, if you catch my drift) and left a small tip that would have been much larger without the push to get us out the door. Unfortunately, what the manager later called the waitresses' "overly efficient" actions really translated to rude service throughout the meal. It appears we were seated in the weeds and were treated as such. After leaving a tiny tip and a note about the unappreciated rush by the staff, the manager came out to our car to apologize and try to make amends (without that, this review would be 1 star). He was right, we should've said something during the meal so they could have rectified the matter. But it was my dad's birthday, and we were not trying to make a scene. The treatment was offensive considering the amount of money we were paying to be there, the main waitress was getting less and less friendly as our one and a half hour stay wore on, and we really just wanted the meal to end. So, in the end, the service was not great, we felt compelled to finish the meal before it actually ended, we were made to feel as if we handled the situation incorrectly, and we got all this for just shy of a couple hundred dollars. Oh, and when you are standing in front of a mirror, five feet behind the customer who is facing the mirror, be mindful that when you tell your waitstaff that there are other reservations waiting and you need those tables, you may be overheard and watched while saying as much. Had a great experience here today. So thrilled it was totally wheelchair accessible the only drawback was the door but luckily there was a kind stranger able to open it for us. The waitress and hostess were excellent and the food was very good I would highly recommend it. read more

Nice cozy neighborhood joint. Recently renovated during the covid. The menu is a little limited for a vegetarian but I thoroughly enjoyed the veggie burger and fries. I should dazzle you with a picture of it here but I was thoroughly distracted by my dining companion. So you will just have to take my word on the food. We also had the potato skins with jalapeños substituted for the bacon. They were cut up into pieces and then covered with cheese and jalapeños. We tried Olney Grille yesterday and it was just what we wanted. We had the crab cake sandwich and it was perfect. Old bay fries were also yummy. Since it was a birthday we had dessert. The strawberry shortcake was sublime, not only to eat but was beautifully prepared. My husband loved the key lime pie too. Love the food would have given more stars but the waitress was rude and dismissive. She never checked back with us, couldn't even take the time to introduce herself to us or even wait for us to be seated before asking us for our drinks/food order. This is definitely a locals go to. We received a friendly greeting and quick seating on a Friday evening. If you like a diverse atmosphere-- you may be uncomfortable as the restaurant had a lot of senior citizens. The waiter was nice and professional. I gave it 3-stars as my 4 oz crab wasn't good. The staff are all awesome people, many of whom have worked there for 10+ years (some even since they opened in '91). The food is great and the kitchen does a great job of delivering quality food for a broad range of tastes. The kitchen works really fast and you can have your food to your table within 10 minutes of sitting down. If you prefer to take your time, the servers are really accommodating and will wait a little while to put in your order. I love the fish tacos with house made tortilla chips and Cha's salsa, the crab cakes, all the fish specials, and especially all the desserts! Key lime pie and brownie sundae are my fave, unless it's Fall when they have their pumpkin pecan crumb pie. By far the best spot for lunch or dinner in Olney! read more

I have been going to the Olney Grille for many many years. Growing up in the Olney area I can tell you that the Olney Grille will provide you a great meal. Exceptional service, friendly atmosphere, and above all else the food. Mixed with the classic American dishes (Burgers, Sandwiches and Steaks) are great seafood selections/fresh fish, awesome appetizers and Thai dishes. Their rockfish and salmon are always good! The portions are very generous, and if your a fan of crab bisque you must come and try a bowl. Dan's Famous Crab Bisque which is named for the Chef/Owner of the Olney Grille knows what he's doing - TRUST ME! Not only would I vouch that the Olney Grille is the best restaurant in Olney but quite possibly in all of Montgomery County. This is a classic mainstay in Olney, MD. Still to this date, I always order the cajun chicken sandwich because it is that good. The crab bisque is also always on point. They renovated one half of the restaurant a few years back and still haven't handled the other side. I don't know if this was for nostalgia reasons, but it doesn't look right. The photos on the wall are cool. They showcase old black and white pictures of Olney and the surrounding area. With new restaurants coming into the area, I would suggest they renovate the other half of the restaurant and add more specials to offer a bit more against the competition. read more

It's unfortunate because this is a nice family orientated restaurant in the neighborhood that been around for a long time and people like it. I'm sorry to say the food was really bad last weekend 3/25/23. Sadly there was one pasta entree left off of my order that I ordered first so very disappointed that it was missing which happened to be the most important entree for my 90 yr old mother so it started off bad there. However, the food was cold and unseasoned. The ribs were awful And I mean awful. They tasted like they were boiled, had no flavor and virtually no sauce. The cobb salad did not taste fresh, could have been the lettuce but it was packed to brim with ingredient. The shrimp and scallop pasta was JUST ok, as well as the crabcakes and wings. The crab bisque was really bad, ridiculously thick and should not be served. It was a really bad experience, my guest hated it and I was really embarrassed. To top things off we all had stomach cramps and ended up in the bathroom the next morning. I would not recommend this restaurant. Sorry, not sorry! read more

Olney Grille, or simply 'The Grille' is a neighborhood restaurant that's an Olney establishment. The pics on the walls feature Olney through the ages. OG has been here since 1991 and most times when I come they introduce a number of specials to their menu. The bar features a good selection of draft and bottled beers and wine by the glass. If you have a craving for the Maryland crab and you're in Olney, OG's crab bisque and the spinach crab dip just might satisfy your craving. They also offer crab cakes as a sandwich or an entrée, but I haven't tried these. My go to sandwiches are the chicken salad and the Cajun chicken sandwich. You really can't go wrong. read more

Solid place in an area that doesn't have a lot of real dining establishments. I've been there several times when I've visited out of town. The restaurant is broken into two. One side has nice decor with good lighting, nice booths and ledgestone walls while the other has low rent tables, drop ceiling and the charm of a Denny's. So eat in the nice side if you can. I pretty much stick to the steak salad or a burger. I'm not sold enough to get one of the fancier entrees. The service is OK, not outstanding, but not bad either. Been patronizing this restaurant since before it was Olney Grille - it was the Sandpiper, maybe even before then...since 1986 anyway. The rolls are so good! I enjoy the ribs and the burgers are great. I usually shy away from the entrees since I have been disappointed many times. Last night was no exception. I ordered the pork chop entree for carry-out with two pork chops. The roll was fantastic as usual and so was the cole slaw. But the pork chops might as well have been made out of concrete. I could not cut them or gnaw the meat off of them - I felt like a zombie trying to gum my way through taut muscle - ineffective - and I have all my original teeth. I was truly dismayed. So I turned to the french fries but Yikes! The place where I bit my cheek today was burning. The fries had Old Bay sprinkled liberally on them....but I had not ordered fries with Old Bay on them & the person who took my order did not tell me or warn me that the fries came with Old Bay. I would have selected something else or asked for it to be left out. So, wasted $$ for a roll with cole slaw. Better than nothing for dinner. I believe I have tried everything on the menu and all the desserts over the years. If you plan to have ribs, burgers, and some sandwiches, then go for it. Otherwise, adjust your expectations or you will also be disappointed. read more

The egg roll appetizer was pretty good ... I appreciated that it was hot. The only weird thing is that they were half egg rolls ... not four full egg rolls ... so it was really two egg rolls cut in half. The crab bisque was acceptable ... nothing great ... but acceptable. Spinach dip was average. The pastrami sandwich was excellent. Fish tacos were dry and too much curry. Salads were standard. Brisket special was acceptable but, oddly, it was sliced in the wrong direction (don't they know that you have to slice beef AGAINST the grain?). Rib eye steak was average ... kind of gray ... kind of tasteless ... a solid "C." Kudos to the bartender ... they actually FILLED the wine glass. Unusual ... I was appreciative of that. Bottom-line: standard fare, good but nothing outstanding (except for the pastrami sandwich.) Service was good ... but, in hindsight, I'm wondering if the tip was already on the check (we had a table of nine people) and I added a $30 tip. I forgot to check to see if the gratuity was already on the check ... I'm trusting that it was not added and that I didn't double-tip. read more

The service was exceptional. The salad was freshly washed, still had some water. The entrees were good the scallop shrimp scampi not bad. Lots if shrimp, the scallops should have been sautéed or broiled they were short and with no texture. Etoufee was very spicy with an over abundance of meats. We were very relaxed never felt rushed. The Olney Grille is an Olney classic. Everyone from Olney has been here at least once, but usually more times than they can count. The restaurant has been in the area for years. You can still tell inside where the old restaurant was and which part is the addition. The inside is decorated in two completely different manners. The crab bisque is awesome and they have great oysters. My favorite has always been the applewood smoked BLT on sourdough toast. Their applewood bacon is flavorful, crsipy and thick. The service is always excellent. Another favorite of mine is the ribs and homemade apple sauce. It can get extremely crowded so be prepared to wait on a weekend. read more

Olney Grille is a local restaurant that serves really good food. The service is quick and servers are pleasant. The crab bisque is delicious! Their crab bisque is what made me fall in love with crab bisque! Their Grille Sliced Steak Salad is one of my favorite salads...the steak is cooked nicely and the lettuce and other vegetables are fresh and crisp! I've eaten at this place a few times. The food is good and the service was fine. The only problem I had is that it's not memorable. There's nothing that makes me think, "Oh, I want to go to the Olney Grille!" There are about three of these places in town, inclduding the Ale House and the Tavern. You've got to be memorable in the restaurant business. I will say this for the Olney Grille: the Washington Post recently pointed out that they began sourcing their blue crab from Maryland. This food is very consistent and very good. They have a wide array of menu items and always seem to have some great specials. I've had entree salads, sandwiches, and wings from Olney Grille. The crabcake sandwich is very tasty with large lumps of crabmeat. I also had a thai chicken salad which was well worth the price tag and had great flavor. The burgers are thick and juicy and cooked to perfection and a rueben I ordered was equally delicious. This isn't gourmet food, but they don't try to be. Very basic food with above average flavor. The restaurant as a whole seems much larger than it really is because of all the mirrors. I think if I worked here I would most certainly get a headache! Two menu items I was not sold on was the salmon salad and the wings. The sauce on the wings was not the greatest and the salmon filet was WAY too small to justify the price. My humble opinion is that you need to serve at least a 6oz portion of salmon to justify a salad in the mid teens. My salmon was 3-4oz at most. I will definitely put Olney Grille into my rotation of Olney restaurants. The food is decent quality and very consistent. read more

Awful restaurant. Food is awful and the waitress only bring things for the person who asked. We are group of four and one of our friend asked for more coffee. Then she came back only fill up his cup! My cup was empty. One of friend ordered they beef soup, she didn't like it, and one of friend did not like the crab omelet. The food only had one or two bites, they still charged. I love the food here. I've always had good service and even have a favorite waitress. My favorite item is the greek salad. Everyone in my family has something they like there so that is helpful. The only bummer is their dinner rush. There is usually a wait. This is one of the rare places though that my husband will actually wait, so he definitely likes it.
