7.17.26 It had been over nine years since my last visit. I came in for an early dinner on a Friday afternoon to catch up with a friend who was a former colleague and is retired. We were hoping to find a quiet table where we could enjoy a long conversation. Unfortunately, we later discovered it didn't matter where we sat because the restaurant was so loud that it was difficult to hear each other. That aside, we thoroughly enjoyed the service provided by the charming and personable Andrew. My friend had several questions and special requests, and he remained professional, patient, and accommodating throughout our visit. Andrew started us off with complimentary pita bread. We initially paired it with the harissa, but found it a bit too spicy for our tastes, so we asked for butter and olive oil instead. We ordered the spanakopita, chicken souvlaki, gyros, and loukoumades for dessert. Of the four dishes, the gyros were our favorite, although everything we tried was delicious. The only disappointment was the spanakopita. At $14, we felt the portion was on the small side for the price. When we arrived, there were only a few other diners, but within an hour the restaurant was packed. We were definitely glad we came early. Overall, we both agreed that the food and service were exceptional. The only drawback was the noise level. We had so much to catch up on, and it would have been a much more enjoyable experience if we hadn't had to compete with the volume of the restaurant just to carry on a conversation. read more

They have a lunch special between 11am to 2:30pm, from Mondays to Fridays called "Sandwiches & Salads". If you order a sandwich, you can get both a salad and fries with it. We started off with the salad. It is in a nice sized bowl with greens, cucumber, tomatoes, onions, green peppers and feta cheese, but it is drenched in dressing. I'll have to see if they can make the dressing optional the next time. I ordered the Cava Gyro that also came with fries. Everything was so good as I expected it to be. Perfect temperature too. The other in our party had the same thing and enjoyed their sandwich as well. For dessert I enjoyed their Greek donuts called Loukoumades. In a few pictures online it looks like it is served with the fixings already poured on the donuts - the Nutella and the honey and walnuts, but when I received the dish, each item was separate, so they put you in charge of doing the drizzling of those toppings - I like it. The donuts were round and plump (7 total) with a little sprinkling of sugar and are very airy when you eat each. It has become one of my favorites here. Came for the brunch mania experience ($38/pp). Everyone in group must purchase it. It consist of three courses plus crazy feta hush puppies for the table complimentary (any additional was at an added cost). This location is in Olney in a strip mall with plenty of parking. Cava Mezze is a Mediterranean centered restaurant with food that reflects those flavors. We were greeted by a pleasant hostess and shown to our table. The ambiance was refined with a slight upscale vibe. We were seated in the main dining area, which was an open air concept as we could see the kitchen staff preparing food and the bar area as well. They had high table seating by the bar as well. The also offered outdoor seating as well. We were greeted by a pleasant server, who gave us the menus to peruse. There were 3 courses and you could order one from each course. We were a party of two. We selected: Course 1: Crispy potato terrine Course 2: Baklava waffle and smoked salmon toast Course 3: French Toast and Chicken and waffle They also had brunch mania drink specials and I chose the mimosas (oj or grapefruit) for a quarter so I had to have a couple of those (I was not driving!) and my guest got the non-alcoholic blackberry sage lemonade for $2 and a $2 passionfruit lemonade as well (all parties at the table have to participate in the drink specials menu). The server arrived with the complimentary crazy feta hush puppies and they were good: cornmeal, jalapeño, and red onion deep fried with harissa butter and honey on the side. They were very good. The 1st course arrived: The crispy potato terrine arrived hot with whipped feta on the side sitting in a herb vinaigrette. I enjoyed the crispy top of the potato square and the layers of perfectly cooked potato slices. The vinaigrette provided a nice balance to the whipped feta and potato. The second course: baklava waffle and smoked salmon toast. The waffle arrived hot made with crispy phyllo dough and topped with walnuts, and cinnamon orange honey. The waffle was fresh and the flavors went well together. I got the smoked salmon toast with just the salmon on the toast and the whipped crazy feta, pickled beets, dill, and arugula on the side. The citrus vinaigrette was on the salmon and the toast was nice and crispy, but not hard. The smoked salmon was fresh. I really enjoyed it. The third course: French toast and chicken and waffles. The French toast was by far our favorite: crispy French toast covered with marinated berries, orange honey, vanilla, and whipped cream. It was SO good! The chicken and waffles was not what we expected: the chicken that arrived was like the chicken prepared for a schnitzel: flat, breaded, and fried with hardly any flavor ( it did say it in the menu description, but we only saw chicken and waffles...). It was accompanied by honey, feta, and green onion. The waffle was just ok. Needless to say, this was the one dish we did not care for. The quarter mimosa was ok, just a basic one, but the lemonades were really good with me preferring the blackberry safe over the passionfruit. All in all, a nice place to enjoy brunch and have a decent meal. read more

We've been here a few times, but can on a Saturday night with friends. We were seated swiftly and our waitress did an excellent job at communicating any delays and keeping our drinks full. We ordered the lamb chops, octopus, the appetizer sampler and the scallops. My friend reported that the octopus was a little undercooked but very good nonetheless. I had some of the lamb and it was quite tasty. Charred on the outside and the right temperature on the inside. Cava is a good option for the Olney area. Came here with a fairly large group of friends and tried a bunch of items. My favorites were the Brussel sprouts, and chicken skewers. Nothing else really stood out. I thought I was going to love the hush puppies but hate that they use either a goat or sheep milk for their cheese and ruined a lot of items for me. Service was sporadic and it wasn't busy. The servers were not too knowledgeable with the items and didn't know a lot of answers. Overall if I didn't attend for a friends event I wouldn't chose to go here. read more

I've been to Cava countless times, both for dinner and for happy hour. The used to be amazing - decent-sized portions, good service, sort of reasonable prices. They struggled during the lockdown portion of the pandemic, like all restaurants did, and it was understandable that they raised prices a bit and also cut portion sizes, since they were just trying to survive. Once the pandemic ended, though, and people went back to restaurants, those prices stayed high and those portions remained small, including happy hour prices. The service, thank goodness, is still good. Shout out to Charles, awesome bartender! We don't go for dinner anymore, though, because it's just too expensive for what you're served. read more

After a long hiatus, we returned for a dinner prior to attending a play at Olney theater. The spanakopita was fried instead of the traditional baking. We have toured Greece a number of times and ate numerous versions of spanakopita. While the fillings and sizes vary, we never encountered deep fried spanakopita. The mini gyros include fries which are wrapped inside a pita. This is oxymoron- the fries should be outside the pita so they stay crisp as intended. I'd been wanting to try out Cava Mezze for a while since I discovered it one day when searching for CAVA. I was in the area at the One Life Fitness gym and decided to order takeout from here for dinner. The estimated pickup time was 30-35 minutes from the time I placed the order, but it was ready when I arrived only 15-20 minutes after my order. The employees that greeted me were very friendly. I loved the indoor vibe and the outdoor seating looked nice as well. I saw one of the employees outside seemingly having a good conversation with two patrons. This was nice to see. Lastly, the food was good! I had the gyro platter with rice. The meat was nicely charred and paired well with the rice and tzatziki. The salad dressing was simple and healthy. I've been here a couple of times for lunch, but the Saturday evening vibe is different! I felt like I was downtown (or atleast downtown Bethesda) for a night out. The tables were packed, but we were able to be seated pretty quickly. The waiter was very chatty and attentive and we really enjoyed him. We shared some small plates and enjoyed every single one. The hummus was really tasty . A very smooth texture with a great little kick. The salads were really fresh and had a very nice light dressing. Unfortunately, the salad we had with a Greek salad was overcooked. The service and when I say there was barely anybody in the restaurant should have been perfect, but our waiter was not perfect. My friend ordered an iced tea and then a second one and it never came. We ordered pita and it took 15 minutes to get more. We were very fair with our waiter and gave him a nice tip, but I so wanted to tell him he needs to work on his waiter skills. It's not that hard to ask somebody if they need something and then they tell you what they need and for you to then go right to the kitchen or wherever you have to get it and get it. My bitch date and I both did the Brunch Mania for $38 which come with hush puppies to start and 3 dishes from their brunch menu. Mimosas are .25 each, which makes for a great deal if you plan on being here a while. For food we ordered: Risotto balls- very crispy and flavorful Nutella banana fritters- the banana tasted more like plantain, so I'm not sure if they were ripe. Also I love Nutella and the sauce tasted more like plain chocolate sauce than Nutella, no not my favorite dish of the afternoon. Steak and eggs- solid portion size and overall flavor. Grilled shrimp- the shrimp were very large and seasoned will. Salmon toast- the citrus vinaigrette and whipped feta Spicy lamb Benedict- my first time having a lamb Benedict, but very enjoyable. Service: Though we were doing the brunch special, we had to specifically request the hush puppies, which I thought was a little strange since it's an automatic appetizer. We also had to get her a attention when asking for drink refills, which took some time, but it wasn't like she was rude or avoidant. Beyond those two hiccups, our server was very sweet. Wow were we surprised. A lunch stop as an afterthought became one of the finest meals we've had in quite a while. The sleek, sophisticated decor was no deception - the cuisine fit the atmosphere. Service was solid, the kitchen was quick but come for the food. Ample portions for the price, but what was special were rhe flavors and seasonings.
