    Greek salad and hummus

Still great! The quality and freshness is still here. Ordered Greek salad and hummus. The best hummus in the DMV! The salad was fantastic!

Thursday 2/22/2024 I ordered in person and the food took about 20-30 min to be ready. I got the chicken souvlai platter (with rice, salad, pita) $14.95, "fat free" gyro $13.95, and 1 peice of baklava $6.50. My total was $39.08 which is way more than I expected but they have a 4% credit card fee so maybe that's why but idk. The "fat free" gyro was an extremely messy and disappointing dish. The gyro wasn't wrapped properly so once I got it out the foil it got real messy. The meat in gyro (lamb or beef) was terrible and to make it worse the tzatziki sauce left a bad feeling in my stomach. The only gyro I had before was from Naz's halal and it was significantly better than what I got here (DO NOT get this dish). The chicken souvlaki platter was solid but slightly overpriced due to the chicken portion. It was a huge disappointment compared to what I expected (there was just 4-5 chicken pieces on the skewer). Finally, the baklava which I can easily say was the best item I had BUT $6.50 for a small piece is ridiculous and flat out overpriced. I'm newer to baklava (only tried this and another) but I can say this is the best I've had: sweet and delicious. Overall, I had a pretty disappointing experience due to food taste, pricing, and portions and that's why I would not come back.

The food was cooked fresh, the service was alright and the atmosphere was casual. We went there when it just opened. It was a one man operation. He was waiter, cashier and cook all in one. The portion was big and tasted okay. We wanted to try several different things but unavailable. So we ended up ordering the same lamb platter. I would've liked trying the desserts, but they looked like leftovers from the day before: stale and unappealing. So we skipped. Overall, it's better than fast food chains, but not something I would go out of my way for.

Stepping into this restaurant was like stepping back into Greece! Upon walking into the restaurant, I was greeted by a vibrant older woman at the register. She asked me what I would like to order, and I replied "Chicken Souvlaki". You can choose rice or french fries, and I chose rice. I also ordered a lemonade to drink. After ordering I decided to eat inside, FYI you choose your own table. Upon waiting, I took in all of the artwork inside the restaurant while also soaking up the aroma of the food cooking and listening to the staff speak in their Native Greek tongue. It was warming to know that my food was being freshly made. A few minutes later a raspy voice yelled out, "Sir, chicken souvlaki!!!!" I went up to the counter and was handed a tray that was flooded with deliciousness! Grilled chicken, rice, greek salad topped with feta, and four pieces of pita bread! I also asked for tzatziki sauce on the side which I had to pay extra for, but it is so worth it! I began eating and I was in absolute paradise!!! The flavors were so rich and authentic! I dipped the pita in the tzatziki and my taste buds were singing!!! This food was very flavorful and you could taste the love that was put into it! I took my time eating and savored every bite. As I finished up my meal, more and more people stopped into the restaurant to place an order. I am glad to see this establishment getting so much business, with the level of quality food they are putting out they deserve it. Check this place out, you are in for a treat! Cheers to good eats!

Ela Mesa Taste of Greece…read moredidn't just serve us a meal -- it transported our taste buds straight to the Mediterranean. We started strong with the feta cheese appetizer, and wow -- the creamy, briny richness paired perfectly with fresh accompaniments. The Greek salad that followed was unbelievably fresh, with crisp vegetables and vibrant flavors that felt like summer in every bite. But the real star of the night? The pork chops. They were cooked to juicy perfection, seasoned beautifully, and paired with sides that complemented the dish rather than competed with it. Each forkful was savory, tender, and honestly one of the best versions of Greek-inspired pork I've had in a while. What sets Ela Mesa apart isn't just the food -- though it truly delivers authentic, elevated Greek flavors -- it's the whole experience. Guests consistently rave about the warm, inviting atmosphere and attentive service that makes you feel right at home. Whether you're craving classic Greek dishes done exceptionally well or discovering Mediterranean flavors for the first time, this place is a must-try gem. We'll absolutely be back -- and next time, we're leaving room for dessert!

It's so funny because David and I frequent the Akira ramen next door and not once had we ever noticed that this Greek restaurant was right next to it! I was immediately impressed by the perfect amount of variety on the menu, and the dishes sounded really authentic. Our server also told us there were a number of specials happening that day, so there's sure to be something for everyone. We ended up ordering 3 entrees for 4 people to share and we were able to swap a few of the side dishes that the entrees came with. Gioulbasi (half roasted chicken): The chicken was tasty, although I didn't eat a few parts closest to the bone because they were a bit bloody and I couldn't tell if it was cooked through. The lemon potatoes that came with this were BOMB! Super lemony, and had a slight crisp outer texture. I could eat a plate full of those potatoes. Branzino: Unfortunately the Chilean Sea Bass we wanted was out, so our waiter recommended the Branzino instead. It was good, but not mindblowing. Its a pretty lean fish, but the meat slid right off the bone and it was pretty easy to eat. Yiouvetsi (lamb shank): Super tender, came right off the bone and paired nicely with the tomatoey orzo pasta underneath. A HUGE portion, we had some leftover to go. Overall, we loved the chill ambiance and authenticity of the dishes and selection on the menu. My parents love Greek/Meditteranean food, so would definitely visit again! Shoutout to our server Riley who was great too, I had to call him over to explain the specials to me twice, give that man a raise!

Cava Mezze had some of the best customer service I'd ever experienced. The staff was so attentive--everyone from my server to the manager. Any member of the staff that simply passed my table made sure to ask me if I was enjoying my food or give me an update on the status of my food. My server also made sure to inform me about the restaurant's cuisine and menu before I ordered. As a solo diner, she made recommendations about what may be best since I wouldn't be sharing the small plates with a party. As for the food, I ordered the saganaki and grilled octopus. The restaurant also provided complimentary pita and harissa. The pita came out warm and the harissa was actually one of my favorite parts of the meal. The saganaki was good, but was ultimately just warm cheese; So as a solo diner, the $16 cost wasn't worth it to me. If dining alone, I probably would spend my money on a more unique appetizer like the hush puppies or mezze tasting. The elements of the grilled octopus were good, but felt like they were slightly off or missing something when paired all together. The grilled squid was tasty (well seasoned and smokey), but had a few too many burnt pieces for my preference and was /slightly/ tough. I still really enjoyed the flavor of it though. The fava puree was sooo good! Again, it had a great, slightly salty flavor that I really enjoyed. I think it was perhaps the brininess of the capers that threw off the flavors off, but the dish felt 100% more balanced once I mixed in some of the complimentary harissa! I really enjoyed my time at Cava Mezze and am excited to return to try more items from their menu. This restaurant is solo-date approved!

We ordered the Brunch Mania each and I got the Nutella Banana Fritters, Smoked Salmon Toast, and Spicy Lamb Benedict. Each dish was full portioned, which was great, so that you got your money's worth (other Cava Mezze's I've been to before had tapas style, but it has been a long time since that time). Each dish was delicious, and luckily I was able to try some other dishes that my wife ordered, which were wonderful. Don't sleep on those hush puppies, I wish I could've gotten more. We also ordered mimosas, which were 25 cents each (if you get the brunch mania), all of which were strong and worth it.

The calamari was perfectly breaded and crispy. The hummus had a great blend of garlic, parsley, a bit of cayenne and red chili flakes with lemon and paprika. All these ingredients make a plain hummus extra tasty. Our two main entrees consisted of the broiled Atlantic salmon with asparagus and Greek potatoes and the Yero plate containing rotisserie beef and lamb slices serviced over pita, with tzatziki, and salad. The salmon was impressively at the perfect temperature. I thoroughly enjoyed my entire meal. The Yero plate had the best slices of beef and lamb. They were soft and absolutely well prepared. Our dinner was accompanied with two musicians who played lovely traditional Greek songs. The music was not too loud and we were able to have a nice conversation at our table. Service was a tad slow towards the end of our meal. We were seated in the basement and there was a time when not a single server was on the floor. Water service was lacking and odd -- we waited quite some time for a refill and when someone did come, only one of us got the refill when we both needed water! Still, I loved the food and atmosphere. I think the server I spoke to was related to Jimmy and Bonnie Caiopolis who used to own JJ Muldoon's on Shady Grove Road. It was really nice to talk with the severing staff at this restaurant. They were all happy to be working and grateful to have a party to serve! It was truly a blessing to be in this atmosphere during a kickoff campaign for someone running such an important race in the state of Maryland! The ambience in the basement is fantastic! And the tent they put up was more than adequate for the subzero temperatures. I don't remember if I took the opportunity to eat any of the food that they prepared. But I assume based on the general ambience and the quality of the staff people working there that it was excellent! My only criticism of the restaurant is that it's very hard to identify where the front door is. More clear markings would be helpful to understand where you enter the facility. When you go to Constantine's Greek Taverna, walk up the hill and look for the entrance on the left at the corner of the building. It looks like an inconspicuous side door or porch door, but that's where you enter. I'm not sure about the handicap accessibility as I am not physically handicapped and to be honest, I forgot to check. Hopefully that is covered in the description here by the owners.
