    Chicken kabob
    Amy S.

We recently stumbled upon this place and had a bit of trouble ordering. Since it was our first time, we had a few questions, but the responses we got didn't quite answer what we were asking. I'm not sure if the gentleman wasn't listening or just didn't understand. You order at the counter, and they bring the food to your table. We shared a few dishes. The hummus was good, but unfortunately, we didn't care for the falafel. The chicken kabob was fine, and the salmon entrée was tasty. The salad that came with it was pretty basic. Overall, we left feeling a bit underwhelmed.

I've been waiting for a Maman Joon to open in the Gaithersburg area, with locations only being in Tyson's Corner and Olney. Very authentic Persian dishes with a great price for quality. I always get the koobideh and chicken combo, which here is a Combo 1. I hope people come and support this place b/c the food is great! Highly recommend.

The food and service is exceptional. The kabobs. The staff was very friendly and helpful choosing dishes. You must try the Ashe Reshteh soup.

What was received. Clear misrepresentation of the food.

The menu clearly described this as an entrée that includes two kabobs with rice. I ordered two entrées, yet what I received was nothing more than two kabob skewers total, not two full entrées as advertised. This was not a minor mistake--it was a complete failure to deliver what was ordered. Even worse, the restaurant refused to correct the issue or acknowledge that the order was wrong, despite the menu description being very clear. This level of service is unacceptable.

He was even happy to speak in Russian to them the whole time. Their ambience and service is wonderful. Food choices are very authentic and full of flavor. Even if you've never eaten Russian/Uzbek food, I highly recommend you try it out. Their portion sizes are great as well. And they have so many choices. You can even tell that all is made fresh. We ordered plov, manti, tashkent salad, kompot, kebobs and their potato salad (i forget the name of this dish) and their bread. It was all wonderful. Definitely worth the drive.

To my luck, we had great Uzbek food less than 15 mins away! It was a while ago but we ordered the samsa, manti, kutabi, plov, and chohohbli, and I can't recall what else but we loved it! Last night my husband and I decided to dine in. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with cultural artifacts and art. This may just be a me thing but the serveware was envy worthy. It was gorgeous. I'm obsessed with beautiful dishware. There were only two people taking orders and serving food for an almost full dining room so we were understanding of a bit of a wait time. The staff were very friendly and checked in on us when they could. We ordered the khachipuri, samsa, oxtail, chohobli, steamed rice, pilmeni, and hot tea. Both the khachipuri and samsa were flaky pastries: khachapuri filled with a salty stretchy cheese with a cheese pull that tasted better than it was Instagram-able and samsa filled with a savory meat/onion mixture served with a tomato based sauce. Get one per person because you will not want to share. We ordered fried mini dumplings which are filled with meat and also served with same tomato based sauce that came with the samsa. They were delicious but afterwards I saw that you can get them steamed in a broth, I told myself I have to get that next time. The slow-cooked, tender oxtail was served over the best crispy, fat-fried potatoes I've ever had. The chohobli (chicken stew) was fall off the bone into a delicious tomato-based stew. We ordered the rice to sop up the delicious stew. The tea really helped to cut the richness of all the delicious food. I have not shut up about this place since we had this meal. I will rave about it to just about anyone that will listen in hopes that they will come with me next time so we can order more dishes to share.

It is like someone either changed the recipe & maybe cut back on the stew ingredients like molasses, pomegranate & walnuts. Its not as savory as years past. Sad!! My mixed thoughts are specifically on my ultimate FAVORITE & ONLY dish I go specifically to Yekta for, Fesenjan. I have ordered and had this for at least 20 years, but later night was 1st time in either 1 or 2 years & I was truly disappointed. It tasted less spectacular, chicken cubes, only found literally 3 cubes for an $18 meal were very dry, tough & had NO flavor of the sauce, so they obviously were thrown in, not simmered for hours in the stew which usually they are & absorb all the wonderful flavors. I may not return much to my husband's dismay. Hubby had 1 of his usuals and LOVED it, Kabob special, both beef & chicken skewers. All rice as side with pita. Ww forgot to ask for salad but he had plenty to eat without. Everyone was friendly, place is well managed. Sorry no pics, got too excited to eat instead.

Put your order in at the counter and shop while they make your food- it's so efficient! My go to order: -Combination koobideh: 1 beef kebab and 1 chicken kebab served over a bed of saffron rice and sides of lavash bread, grilled tomatoes, onion, butter and sumac. This feeds me and my husband for two meals- so worth it! -Hummus: they have the best hummus in Rockville!! Garlicky, smooth, and dare I say, luxurious. You HAVE to try it! -Shirazi: refreshing cucumber, tomato, and onion salad with I think dried mint and lemon. So simple but so good. I could eat a whole container of this with hummus and rice. -Fried eggplant dip: this is fabulous too, and tastes so unique with the whey ingredient. You just have to believe me and try it. The dry mint makes it taste like tea leaves and so fragrant. -Their sandwiches are fantastic too and remind me of Vietnamese banh mi with the pickles, deli meat, and fresh herbs. We like the Kalbas sandwich- garlic mortadella with pistachio! The market is my go to place for dried chickpeas, olives, walnuts, Barbary bread, Persian cucumbers, feta, Persian yogurt, local eggs (Poolesville), fresh and dried herbs, olive oil, and so much more! I cannot get the same quality elsewhere, and I appreciate their careful and thoughtful sourcing. They also make fresh cookies in house- my fave is the cookie mix that has like 5 different cookies. The staff is extremely friendly and kind, and the place is super well organized and clean. It's always so calming and enjoyable to shop there. And they are a local business that has been around for a long time and clearly a beloved pillar in the community. Definitely do yourself a favor and check them out!

I had the Combo II (chicken and ground beef - $17.99) and my partner had the Combo III (lamb and ground beef - $19.99). We did each with half rice/salad. (They give you a lot of rice!). Also got an appetizer of hummus ($5.49) with bread and a couple of soft drinks ($3.19 each). The food is delicious. One really noteworthy point here is that the chicken is so moist and tender. At some kabob places, I have a "avoid the chicken policy" because the chunks of chicken are dry and pretty tasteless. They do a nice job on the chicken here. My partner liked the lamb and we both liked the beef, although I think the beef could use more seasoning. The rice is consistently fluffy and the salad is a nice size with a lemon dressing on the side. I love their hummus. Creamy and tasty. When the bread is right out of the oven (as it was last night), it is heavenly with the hummus and also with the yogurt that comes with the entree. But I do think you need to eat the bread quickly - after it sits for a few minutes it starts to harden and loses some flavor. I like the food a lot. The price point seems high to me, but it is a generous serving of meat.

Cava Mezze had some of the best customer service I'd ever experienced. The staff was so attentive--everyone from my server to the manager. Any member of the staff that simply passed my table made sure to ask me if I was enjoying my food or give me an update on the status of my food. My server also made sure to inform me about the restaurant's cuisine and menu before I ordered. As a solo diner, she made recommendations about what may be best since I wouldn't be sharing the small plates with a party. As for the food, I ordered the saganaki and grilled octopus. The restaurant also provided complimentary pita and harissa. The pita came out warm and the harissa was actually one of my favorite parts of the meal. The saganaki was good, but was ultimately just warm cheese; So as a solo diner, the $16 cost wasn't worth it to me. If dining alone, I probably would spend my money on a more unique appetizer like the hush puppies or mezze tasting. The elements of the grilled octopus were good, but felt like they were slightly off or missing something when paired all together. The grilled squid was tasty (well seasoned and smokey), but had a few too many burnt pieces for my preference and was /slightly/ tough. I still really enjoyed the flavor of it though. The fava puree was sooo good! Again, it had a great, slightly salty flavor that I really enjoyed. I think it was perhaps the brininess of the capers that threw off the flavors off, but the dish felt 100% more balanced once I mixed in some of the complimentary harissa! I really enjoyed my time at Cava Mezze and am excited to return to try more items from their menu. This restaurant is solo-date approved!

Each dish was delicious, and luckily I was able to try some other dishes that my wife ordered, which were wonderful. Don't sleep on those hush puppies, I wish I could've gotten more.
