Salads come with meal with homemade pitas
    Marcus D.

Love this place!! Everything here is good. Problem here is pacing yourself. The side salads with the tahini and pitas could make a meal. The turkey shawarma is fantastic, great spice and together with tahini or hummus and pita, just perfect. The roasted zucchini were a great choice over fries as a side. Service was also good. Wondering when I'll next be in area to go here. Might just need to make a special trip for it!

Portions are nice and food is fresh at Al Ha'esh. We especially enjoyed the Tahini Sauce and Zataar seasoning on the veggies. Bread was hot and fresh and service was great. We'd visit again!

Well the day finally came when hubs was picking me up & we had time to kill before our evening plans. I had mentioned this place several times while driving past it & we decided to make a stop. It's basically a take out place with some fast food restaurant style booths. You place your order, you pay, and you wait for ur food to be prepped. Unfortunately this was a let down. His burger was sad, looked like someone had worked out their aggression on it. Seriously, I've never seen any burger & bun that flattened. It was my mistake, I was excited because of the description (it contained lamb) but wasn't anywhere close to the Greek burger we get in VA, I'm not sure it was even up the fast food level, although it was definitely in competition for flatness. My dish was composed a lot of very dry meat. I'm no longer considering a stop as I drive.

It's pretty tight quarters. I really enjoyed my falafel pita. They give you a ton of choices to put in the pita and they were very tasty. The falafel was really good too. The kid who was with me had never had falafel, but he really enjoyed it. I would definitely go back to grab a bite. I'm not sure how often this happens, but a guy who apparently works there was holding a clipboard and looked to be drawing something on it. He looked at me a couple times and then walked over. He was doodling a picture of me. It was pretty funny. I'm going to keep it.

This place (chain, not this particular location -- but I can't write it about the particular location, because I never found out which exact one it was!) fed us towards the very beginning of pandemic lock-downs when restaurants were all still closed, not allowed to be open. We went and picked up our gloriously delicious falafel sandwiches from a synagogue parking lot -- gratefully! The pita and falafel balls were both sumptuously soft and fluffy -- so much better than so many other pita breads and falafels around ... not to mention that culturally speaking, there is no place like it and I just felt so comfortable here. Even while going by, I felt so much better having this place in the area, seeing the signage, feeling the vibe .... Shouk, you are dearly missed! Please know how much you are appreciated, still! First, I thought the guy behind the counter was very friendly. The bagel shop has a decent breakfast and lunch menu with, of course, a wide array of bagel. I think there were at least 12 different variety of bagels. For my dining experience, I went with the breakfast combo, which came with two eggs, a bagel, homefries and a canned soda or coffee. The price tag was 13 bucks, well closer to 15 with tax. I'm sorry but based on the establishment and other places in the area, I did not think the breakfast platter/combo was worth the 13 dollar prices, especially since the combo/platter did not come with a meat. I think 8 bucks is a fair price. Also, I thought it was odd that the bagel was not served with cream cheese. Maybe it was on me to actually ask for cream cheese. Although I went with a canned soda, instead of a coffee, for my platter, I was shocked that the place charges for coffee refills. I think the cost of refills were either 50 cents or 50%. I do not think that I've ever dined in a restaurant that charged for coffee refills. Perhaps, this is something new due to the new tariffs that the consumers have been hit with. Although the food was edible, I have a feeling that I will stick to my main Sunday, post-workout bagel spot.

They have some unusual bagel flavors and the French toast is my new favorite flavor. It really tastes like a piece of French toast. I bought sesame, everything flavor, pumpernickel, French toast, and a bialy. Everyone loved their bagels. I also bought lox spread, scallion cream cheese, and plain cream cheese. The spreads were really tasty. But, they didn't have a huge amount in stock. Prices were reasonable. It is a clean and well organized restaurant with tables and seats, incase you want to enjoy your meals there. They have a variety of sandwich choices as well. It was very nice and I would go back for more bagels and spreads. I apologize I was so busy organizing and hosting that I forgot to take pictures.

It is like someone either changed the recipe & maybe cut back on the stew ingredients like molasses, pomegranate & walnuts. Its not as savory as years past. Sad!! My mixed thoughts are specifically on my ultimate FAVORITE & ONLY dish I go specifically to Yekta for, Fesenjan. I have ordered and had this for at least 20 years, but later night was 1st time in either 1 or 2 years & I was truly disappointed. It tasted less spectacular, chicken cubes, only found literally 3 cubes for an $18 meal were very dry, tough & had NO flavor of the sauce, so they obviously were thrown in, not simmered for hours in the stew which usually they are & absorb all the wonderful flavors. I may not return much to my husband's dismay. Hubby had 1 of his usuals and LOVED it, Kabob special, both beef & chicken skewers. All rice as side with pita. Put your order in at the counter and shop while they make your food- it's so efficient! My go to order: -Combination koobideh: 1 beef kebab and 1 chicken kebab served over a bed of saffron rice and sides of lavash bread, grilled tomatoes, onion, butter and sumac. This feeds me and my husband for two meals- so worth it! -Hummus: they have the best hummus in Rockville!! Garlicky, smooth, and dare I say, luxurious. You HAVE to try it! -Shirazi: refreshing cucumber, tomato, and onion salad with I think dried mint and lemon. So simple but so good. I could eat a whole container of this with hummus and rice. -Fried eggplant dip: this is fabulous too, and tastes so unique with the whey ingredient. You just have to believe me and try it. The dry mint makes it taste like tea leaves and so fragrant. -Their sandwiches are fantastic too and remind me of Vietnamese banh mi with the pickles, deli meat, and fresh herbs. We like the Kalbas sandwich- garlic mortadella with pistachio! The market is my go to place for dried chickpeas, olives, walnuts, Barbary bread, Persian cucumbers, feta, Persian yogurt, local eggs (Poolesville), fresh and dried herbs, olive oil, and so much more! I cannot get the same quality elsewhere, and I appreciate their careful and thoughtful sourcing. They also make fresh cookies in house- my fave is the cookie mix that has like 5 different cookies. The staff is extremely friendly and kind, and the place is super well organized and clean. It's always so calming and enjoyable to shop there. And they are a local business that has been around for a long time and clearly a beloved pillar in the community. Definitely do yourself a favor and check them out!
