And so, we goggle the nearest place for mediterranean food, in PA and found "Olive Falafel" in Middletown, NY. Wow, the food was amazingly delicious. I then came back today with my daughter's the following week and again, the food was delicious. We sat in and ate and of course I had to order take out for my husband. Great for an inexpensive no frills place. Falafel, gyro & spreads were delish. And service was attentive too. Only complaints are a mid eastern restaurant Of this caliber should really offer quality olives instead of pitted black canned ones. For the price of $11.00, I expected more, there was 3 1x1 pieces of feta cheese, 6 slices of cucumbers, 4 grape tomatoes, and 6 Greek olives and tons of onions resting on lots of mixed greens. Randomly found this place because i am the vegetarian in the group and i needed also a gluten free option. As soon as i walked in, i knew it would be good. I picked up a to-go order for my friend and I. Her platter was okay, but she wasn't impressed and didn't eat much. I didn't feel like the salad was very fresh, the tomatoes were soft and wrinkly, and the mixed lettuce was wilted in some areas. The hummus is lacking in a lot of flavor and I had to add the garlic sauce on top to make it palatable, so after a few bites, I didn't have more of it. Same thing for the baba ganoush. The rice in the doumades were hard and tasted stale. The tzatziki sauce is really great though and it's a shame the owner forgot the sauce in 2 platters I ordered. It was good, the portions of meat were generous. Could have used more tomatoes and onions. The price was fair. I was offered some chili sauce that was FIRE! great flavor but FLAMING HOT! They could make a killing selling it on the side... They don't offer any fountain drinks. All drinks are in a refrigerator and warm. The refrigerator did not do a good job keeping them cold. My biggest complaint is that it seems like they don't have AC. It was 95 degrees outside and 100 degrees inside! They were trying to keep the place some what cool with a fan but were failing miserably. It was stuffy inside and made trying to eat there a total buzz kill. Hands down the best falafel & gyro wrap around. We split ours so we could each try a half and both agreed they were equally amazing! The baklava was as good as my moms and that alone says a lot! The owner George was super friendly and the place is so clean that you can eat off of the floor. That's how I prefer to dine when I don't eat at home. I don't know about you, but I work really hard for my money and when I pay $8 for a gyro I expect it to be delicious and as ordered. They supposedly have this whole entire gyros selection to order your own which is what I did but it was a simple order which they couldn't have screwed up more if they tried. I especially expect it to live up to the standards when you ask for something extra and you don't get it. How can you possibly screw up one simple order for one simple person? I asked for a regular gyro without lettuce and with extra tomatoes and extra tzatziki sauce on the side. The only part that they got right was the sauce on the side. When I got home all it had inside this puny gyro was meat. No tomatoes, no cucumbers, no onions, and, no sauce. The tzatziki sauce which I had put on the side and paid an extra $3 was/is so spicy that it takes away the flavor from the meat. The service was very good and the place is very cute. But I wouldn't come back here if you paid me $1000000. (Well actually I would for a million). When this place was "Mediterranean Grill" I used to get the same exact thing for $5.97. tonight it cost me 8.50 or some crazy number. I'm not a person who eats out a lot so when I do I expect more than what I got. I got the gyro to-go so it wasn't until I got home that I found my disappointment. Not only that but the gyro's so small and the bread fell apart...nothing special. When this place was the Mediterranean Grill the food was outstanding. I don't know if they just changed the name or if there's new owners but either way I'm very disappointed and I called to let them know. Something I typically don't do because but this was so poorly orchestrated I had to call and let them know. I did not curse or your vulgarity I was very professional over the phone and told them that they need to know how badly they messed up this order. It's not the end of the world I'll get over it there are more important things in the world than a stupid gyro order that this little company messed up but they still need to know if they want to stay relevant against competitors in the area. Nothing special about the order. And there's nothing proprietary about these gyros. I will not go 20 miles out of my way to come see them anymore and instead go to yanni's in Monticello. I really don't get any pleasure in posting bad reviews for hard-working Americans but this was one I just absolutely could not look past.. I wish them the best of luck as their really going to need it. it's really too bad because some of the food looks delicious on the wall and in the menu especially the falafel. But their prices are off the chart. Middletown has a lot of choices but for me this will never be one of them ever again. read more
