When my friend suggested we check out this new place and try their Sunset Menu I didn't hesitate to say yes! Located in Upper Buena Vista, Oliva is a beautifully decorated open air restaurant with delicious food and gracious service. Their Sunset Menu was a feast! For $40 you get a 3 course meal and then some. Served semi family style, we left beyond satisfied and with plenty of leftovers. While looking over the menu we were served complimentary olives in a marinade of sorts with what tasted like freshly baked bread, just from this we knew we were in for a treat as we were raving about how good something as simple as bread and olives tasted. Soon after, we placed our orders and our vast assortment of Mezze's arrived, the spread pretty much took up the entire table, with flavors like eggplant, hummus, spinach, to name a few, we savored all of them with the just as fresh and warm pita bread. Also served were the salads, 2 different, both refreshing salads, perfect for the summery night we were having. Shortly after our entrees arrived, and everyone's dish looked amazing and tasted just as good as it looked. Even though by this point we were all pretty full, we all had room for dessert and the platter that was served was spectacular! A variety of sweets like Baklava, a sponge cake, pumpkin, custard pie, we cleaned that plate in a second! Hot Turkish tea sealed our evening and we were beyond happy with our outing.

We started with the bone marrow appetizer, and it was truly outstanding -- incredibly balanced, rich without being overwhelming, and so good we couldn't stop talking about it. We ordered the steak and eggs. The crunchy brioche, earthy mushroom purée, and beautifully sliced steak came together perfectly, and the saltiness of the caviar tied everything together in a really thoughtful way. The picanha was another standout! incredibly tender and full of flavor. We paired it with the broccolini and wagyu fat potatoes, both of which were absolutely delicious. To finish, we shared the ube cheesecake empanada. We were a bit hesitant at first, but it turned out to be the perfect ending to an already fantastic meal. The cocktails throughout the night were also excellent. We enjoyed the restaurant so much that we brought friends back later the same week. That visit was just as impressive -- we ordered the tomahawk steak, garden salad, bone marrow (again!), steak and eggs, truffle fries, broccolini, carrots, and tried all of the desserts. Once again, everything was delicious across the board. The only area for improvement would be the service. Everyone was kind and attentive, but at times too quick to clear plates and not proactive enough with the next course. At a restaurant of this caliber, I'd expect the dessert menu to be offered immediately after plates are cleared, rather than needing to track down a server. Overall, the food is exceptional, and we'll absolutely be back.

Mashed potatoes was delicious, I am happy that I've ordered. Picanha did not taste picanha at all, but it was ok. Fries, nothing special. Burger was less than okay, first bite I thought it was tasty, but second and third was too greasy for me. Drinks were different and delicious. Rum punch and ananas. Wow!!!

Seating is mostly outdoors and beautifully decorated, definitely a nice selection for an intimate event. Service was wonderful! The spanakopita was nicely flaky, the spinach filling wasn't overly bitter or pungent (my boyfriend is not a fan of strong feta flavors and enjoyed this while I am a feta enthusiast, we felt that this was right in the middle of our demands which worked great). We both love moussaka which is what my boyfriend ended up getting, dare we say it was our favorite moussaka out of any Greek restaurant in America thus far (coming from New Yorkers frequently visiting Astoria). It was broiled to perfection to give the cheese/béchamel layer a light crunch at the top and maintaining that richness underneath. The eggplant and ground meat were well seasoned. I really enjoyed my stuffed peppers as well (rice pilaf, ground beef, and feta on top), the tomato broth/sauce gave a nice sweet and savory flavor with the meal. Finally, a superb pistachio baklava, 10/10. Super impressed with what Miami had to offer for Mediterranean.

Plan accordingly unless you enjoy dining in 85° with a side of humidity. Parking? Practically a scavenger hunt. There's no real on-site option; we ended up trekking about six blocks to a public garage. Apparently there's valet somewhere nearby, but you'd never know it because there were no signs, no heads up, just vibes. They tout a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which set expectations and maybe a little too high. Unfortunately, the food just didn't deliver. Several dishes landed squarely in the "looks better than it tastes" category--pretty, but surprisingly flavorless. At those prices, you expect at least a little wow. Service was fine, but forgettable. All in all, between the heat, the flies, the parking adventure, and the underwhelming food, this one's a pass for me. Won't be making a return trip.

The happy hour menu is surprisingly grounded for this part of the city, offering some of the best prices I've seen in Miami recently--averaging $10-$12 for a mixed drink. While my friend sampled a few of the more complex options, I stuck to my standard Ranch Water, which was delivered perfectly. The service stood out here. The bartenders operated as a highly coordinated team, moving fast and effectively to manage a busy crowd without losing the ability to make personal connections through conversation. It's a level of efficiency you don't always see at high-volume rooftops. While we didn't stay for a meal, the lobster and King Crab tanks you see upon entering are a clear highlight and a nod to the quality of the kitchen. If you're looking for a supportive environment to catch a sunset with a clean drink in hand, this is a top-tier choice in the Edgewater area.
