I didn't grow up here and I'll be honest... I can't stand Buffalo style pizza. I don't mean to offend anyone - I just don't get it! That's said, I'm always on the lookout for local places that have a good thin-crust with non-cup and char pepperoni. And Olisi's has it!!!!!!! I was thrilled by the first look at it, and even more thrilled upon biting in! Finally - a pizza in WNY that you need to fold!!! The sauce wasn't overly savory and the amount on the pizza was absolutely perfect. The crust was wonderfully crunchy. My husband and I came here at the recommendation of a friend. I love love love pizza. He likes pizza a normal amount, and he prefers his pizza to be NY Style- thin crust. We picked up an order for a large pizza, 10 wings, and a combo platter appetizer. My favorite part-you can order online! I love this! We placed the order online and it was ready about 30 minutes later. All of the food was pretty good, standard thin crust pizza, average pizzeria wings. The combo platter really made me happy though. You don't see an option like this at a lot of pizzerias. It came with jalapeño poppers, chicken fingers, and mozzarella sticks. A little something for every taste! My first rating, being new to the area was cautious and in retrospect overly harsh. Now, after settling into the area from FL, this has been the best food, service, and consistency in end result product. All the others, you question if or when they change their frier oil. Everything we've ordered has been spot on. The pasta dinners, salads, my wife's a vegetarian and finds much to her liking, and that means everything to me. She's happy and likes it. I have been looking for NY style pizza for a very long time. I came upon two on yelp and this was one of them. So I wanted to give this place a try first. The store style is like any other pizza place. When I was looking at the displayed pizza, I realized that only the cheese and pepperoni pizza was the closest to the NY style pizza. So I got the pepperoni and of course I have to get the garlic knots. The garlic knots was good. The pepperoni pizza was good as well but the crust itself was not crispy enough. The pizza wasn't as big as the ones you buy in NYC but it didn't really matter for me. If the crust is crispy I would've probably gave it a 5 star. I came to Olisi's NY for the first time on Saturday with no idea what to expect. We were driving down Sheridan indecisively looking for food when this just happened to pop up. The place itself looks pretty standard for a pizza place with a good amount of seating inside. I didn't look too much into the menu but it does consist of plenty of different types of pizza, pasta, calzones, and all that other good stuff you would expect from a New York style pizzeria. The first thing you see when you walk into Olisi's is the slices of pizza in front of the counter which is what I ended up ordering. I got a slice of the deep dish chicken, bacon, ranch along with a thin slice of the meatball. I'm definitely a thick pizza kind of guy and I really enjoyed the thicker slice of chicken, bacon, ranch. The dough was soft, the flavour was excellent, and the it was pretty big too. I enjoyed the slice of meatball even though think isn't my favourite. It had a good amount of flavour, grease, and soft crust. My one issue with Olisi's is that you can't order single garlic knots.....but.....why? They literally have a bunch of them sitting there and you have to order them in groups of 4.....again, why would I want 4 garlic knots, just divide it by 4 and BAM, you have a single piece at a single price. Maybe I'm overthinking this but I've never seen a place that doesn't let you order individual garlic knots. Overall, Olisi's NY is a great place to get some fast and tasty pizza. The staff was friendly, the place was clean, and the food was good. If you are looking for a quick lunch this is definitely a great place to stop. read more

I was looking through all of the rental papers from all of my past apartments and houses the other day. I don't know why, maybe I just get off on looking through Oldleases. Apparently so do these owners because that's what they named this shiny new Pizzeria on Sheridan. Oh Buffalo. (sigh). I suppose it's predictable that y'all (I'm southern btw) would fall in love with this place. It's so... un-Buffalo. On so many levels. Firstly it's shiny and new and probably belongs in some other city, and reminds me of pizza places in other cities. Secondly, it's overpriced compared to other pizza places in WNY. Thirdly, the pizza is completely un-Buffalo, it's actually more like NYC, but nowhere near as good as pizza in NYC. The first part is fine - I like NYC pizza. The second part not so much. And fourthly, they really don't know how to heat up pizza. If they did, I'd probably give them four stars, because their steak slice was decent enough, but on the Buffalo landscape with all of these great pizzas, pizza has to be really great. I'm not sure who thought this was really great - you're entitled to your opinion - but while the dough tasted nice, I thought the pizza was: (a) very dry (b) a little tasteless (c) a little congealed (d) barely even lukewarm even after they heated it up (e) a little overpriced, even for the specials (f) too many slices sitting around at once - can't be fresh (g) a 4-star pizza at best. However given that it was cold, given the prices, given how everyone is raving about it, given that the service wasn't great, I'm going to give it a 3. Pop just down the road and try the NYC-style slices at Molinaro's. Compare. Contrast. Make your own mind up. Those are what I call NYC slices. read more

I'm a fan of NY style thin crust. For the record: in Buffalo we're closer to Cincinnati than we are to NYC. We have a bunch of NY style pizza joints, but I don't think I can get a 5-way chili anywhere in WNY. Do I have a point? Probably, but it eludes me (like that chili). Spaghetti... Olisi's does a very good job of making NYC style pizza in Buffalo. It's thin, foldable, and has a solid sauce. I'd suggest minimal toppings so you don't spoil the pizza. You'll want to order the largest size possible because NY style pizza should be the size of a manhole cover. Long story short - Olisi's does a good WNY take on a NYC pizza. It's not perfect, but it's tasty and it's in Buffalo so you can satisfy your pizza hunger without an 8 hour drive. read more

My favorite slice is the "stuffed pizza," which is two slices of dough, stuffed with steak, mozzarella, sweet peppers and onions. I also absolutely love the pizza topped with ricotta, spinach, chicken and tomatoes. It is good to see them doing so well. There were several people there for lunch. The people behind the counter were very talkative, friendly and cheerful. They asked if it was my first time ordering from them. They also asked how I like the food and if I have any feedback. I thought that was nice. I will certainly be returning frequently for lunch. I love NY style pizza and Olisi's seems to have it down to an art. Their menu also has pasta, subs, appetizers, calzones, wraps and homemade desserts! My original four star rating was due to the unusually quiet atmosphere and lack of greeting, but those issues have since been resolved. I've lived in and around Buffalo for a majority of my life. I've had a lot of pizza. Actually, that might be an understatement of the facts. But honestly, I've had a lot of pizza. I've also done kitchen work, my last stint was for 2 years where I spent a majority of my time making pizza (dough from scratch, daily prep, cooking routines, etc). Because of all this, I like to think that my opinion has value, and Olisi's Pizza is pretty great! In a town filled with more pizza joints than neighborhood bars, it's easy to compare and complain while writing down your opinions. I'm not about to do that here. Olisi's is simply a NY "style" slice of pie. Its large, perfectly flat, and has a thinner crust. If this isn't your thing, and you know it, you might not like it here. I found the dough was tasty and fresh. The pizza was cooked to perfection. It was just crispy enough to have that "oven dough cooked taste" while still being soft enough to fold (Buffalonians, did you cringe? LOL). I also got some Wings and they were, well, Wings**. ** Little side note here for every opinion I've ever read about non-crispy take-out wings. The second they come out of the fryer, they are still cooking. They continue to cook as they rest. Dropping them into a take-out Styrofoam container causes them to steam cook. All those water droplets you find on the inside, that is your food continuing to cook. While in steam, they soften and get mushy. So, don't complain. Utilize a toaster oven and reconstitute those wings to perfection or ask for your wings to be placed into a cardboard pizza box and for the foil they line it with not to be pinched closed. OK, rant over! Olisi's is located on Sheridan Drive, just across the street from Cuputi's. They have a large private parking lot with main-drag and side-street entrances. The interior is well lit, not too bright, and has a few tables for dine-in eaters. They sell pizza by the slice and in combo meals (with a drink) for less than $8 (with tax). The large pizza is big enough to feed a family of 4, I can't imagine what the XL is like! They have pop and everything else you would expect. Stopped here for lunch after driving by many times. The inside was very nice. Very clean feel. They had tons of slice options up at the counter from standard pepperoni to specialty slices. This is a NYC style pizza not Buffalo style. I tried a slice of cheese and pepperoni and a slice of the steak which had banana peppers and a mix of cheddar and mozzarella on it. Both pieces of pizza were very bland. Absolutely no flavor on the steak pizza, I could only taste the mild banana peppers. The big pepperoni I am never a fan of because it tastes cheap compared to the nice cooked cupped up pepperoni that is normal to Buffalo. I usually go down the street to a much better option. Some of the best pizza around is at Molinara's it's like a mile down the road. Go there instead and you will not be disappointed with your slice. I am not really interested in trying Olisi's again despite its convenient location to my work and clean atmosphere. I didn't finish either slice. This was our first time ordering from here, I was super excited to see a NY style pizzeria in the area. We got a large cheese half pepperoni pizza and 10 wings xtra crispy BBQ. My order was ready on time when I arrived. It is very clean inside, and the staff was very friendly. The food was delicious! We would normally order NY style pizza from Zetti's, but from now on will be ordering from here. Confession: I haven't tried Olisi's pizza yet. I stopped by yesterday (for the first time) to pick up a take-out order that I placed online. When there was a question about my order (my own fault - I should have called to avoid confusion), they called my house to inquire. Very thoughtful. Also, the best part: part of my take-out order was not given to me at the counter and the restaurant called my home again. I was about 5 minutes from home and had no problem returning to pick up the missing antipasto salad. Someone from the restaurant delivered the missing item to my house, nearly 9 miles from Olisi's on Sheridan, about 10 minutes after I got home. That is service, my friends. There is no shortage of great pizza places in the WNY area. While this is awesome for consumers, it means restaurants are bound to be held by higher standards. Olisi's pizza did not impress me. We ordered a cheese and pepperoni pizza, and there was nothing about it that made it stand out. That being said, I would be willing to give them another shot to try their specialty pizzas, as it seems they have plenty, and perhaps that is more of their forte? We also ordered medium chicken wings. Not very flavorful, very little sauce- they almost tasted plain..and no crisp. Again, I am a strict critic when it comes to wings as well. I'm not sure I'm willing to give the wings another shot, but we'll see! The steak and banana peppers pizza is among the best I've ever had anywhere, and that includes Chicago and New York. Both of those "foreign" pizza styles are not usually well executed in Buffalo. Olisi's is the exception. I disagree with Fox E., who I love immensely for his puns and commentary, that Molinara's (which I also like) is better. Olisi's is one of my favorite pizza places anywhere in Buffalo. They specialize in a NY style slice, which is by far my favorite kind of pizza. When you walk in, the first thing you'll notice is that they have a whole host of different pizza slices available for purchase. They have everything ranging from plain cheese to stinger pizza, all available round the clock to grab and go. My wife and I also split an order of medium wings on our first trip here, and they were better than I had expected. I recently stubbled across Olisi's and I am very happy I did. I have had the Deep Bleu Chicken Pizza. It's excellent but it's a gut buster so be ready to do "your thing", the NY Style Cheese and Pepperoni pie which I think is nice and light, full of flavor with excellent crust and the garlic knots.
