octopus

Great vibes here! The server was extremely attentive. The restaurant was very clean and played some fun music. Now for the food! The octopus app was to die for. It was soft and surprisingly not chewy, like a lot of octopus is served. I also very much enjoyed my swordfish dish. It was topped with crab, which is always a hit. It was perfectly cooked and buttery in flavor. Really good. My partner got the gnocchi. It was also very good. Great little spot in Old City! BYOB and cash only.

Olea has some of the best pasta that I've had, definitely highly recommend if you're in the old city area! Just a heads up, this Mediterranean BYOB is also cash only, and reservations are recommended since it's pretty small and cozy inside (I'm estimating probably only 30 seats inside). I went there with a group of 4 and service was great (super friendly staff) - the meal starts with complimentary pita bread, hummus, and olives for the table to share, which were yummy. We also decided to go family style & ordered 4 pastas to share: the gnocchi, fettucine, rigatoni, and ravioli. Usually when it comes to pasta, I find that the flavor is typically pretty one-dimensional. However, the balanced flavors of the cacio e pepe rigatoni with the lobster and black truffle made it my favorite out of all the pastas! It was rich, but not overpowering. The ravioli (not pictured) also shines with its unmistakable goat cheese flavor. As a lactose intolerant girlie, I finished every bite of that rigatoni because it was sooo worth it. I'm definitely coming back again to try some of their other dishes!

Wow. One of the best meals I've had in some time. The rigatoni with lobster was sensational. A dish like this is easy to become too rich and complicated; this was perfectly balanced. The fettuccini with shrimp and pesto was excellent as well. Same with the artichoke appetizer. Dessert, while fine, was probably worth skipping. Ambiance was awesome: small place, quick service, attentive staff.

Came here with my family to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant itself is very intimate with only about 30 seats, so reservations are a must. We were greeted with a lovely set of olives, hummus, and pita bread, which were heavenly. For appetizers, we ordered the artichokes ($18, Garlic white wine, anchovies, lemon butter) and beets ($17, Arugula, feta, pecans, red onions). The beets were definitely the highlight! For mains, we shared the gnocchi ($28, Bell peppers, sausage, tomato sauce), ravioli ($29, with cream sauce) and salmon ($29, which came with some veggies). Out of these, the gnocchi was probably my favorite. The salmon was cooked very well (crispy on the outside but not dry on the inside). However, I will say that I felt the portions were quite small and we left not feeling entirely full. The service was impeccable, and felt like a very personalized unique experience. Overall, it was a special dining experience, but I felt that the portions were too small to justify the prices. Also, they are cash only, so just be aware!

We loved everything about Olea. The ambiance was relaxed and comfortable. The staff was top notch. The food was on point. My colleague and I had the ravioli and they were to die for. Others had the steak and mussels. Everyone was pleased with their meal. The next time we're in Philly, we will definitely go again!

$ CASH ONLY $ Super friend staff. Delicious food. I arrived at the first seating when they opened at 5pm. Was quickly seated, given water, menus, and the day's special. Our appetizers came out quickly hot and delicious. Only complaint was that the gnocchi was quite salty that we couldn't finish. Took it home to dilute. The peach salad from there special of the day was my favorite

This is a cozy spot in old city. Such an intimate space. The service was so prompt and we were taken good care of from the minute we walked in. Delicious hummus, pita and olives were delivered right away. We ordered two appetizers; the shrimp and the octopus. Both were very good but the octopus stood out. Lots of flavor. I ordered the whole branzino and my friend ordered the pork chop. Her pork chop was excellent with a tasty sauce and was very juicy. I enjoyed my branzino, but was wanting a bit more flavor, perhaps a sauce? However, It was cooked well and was flaky. The chocolate pot de creme at the end topped off the meal nicely. BYO, so don't forget the wine!

CASH ONLY Great food, nothing out of this world. Kind server A nice and quaint restaurant located in Old City. This is BYO, so that is a plus. We ordered a whole bunch of things and although all tasted good, i wasn't slapped in the face with their flavors. There is a an option where you can ask for 1/2 gnocchi and 1/2 ravioli if you want to try both and not break the bank. $30 Overall, good establishment.

The food here is so delicious. I was also amazed when the waiter went above and beyond. I had asked if I could substitute the barramundi sides with couscous but decided against it. I imagined the original pairing on the menu is probably better anyways. However, the waiter ended up bringing out a couscous side on the house and it just so happens to be the most delicious couscous dish I've ever had. (I promise it's not because it was complimentary). I love the way the pearl couscous was prepped - it has what tasted like chopped almonds and some cranberries and very refreshing seasoning. The barramundi was very delicate and buttery. It reminded me of a fancy tilapia. My friend got the bucatini and it was so delicious she finished it all! I would love to come back again. This place is ideal for dates as well. **This place is BYOB and Cash only.

Had dinner at Olea with my YELP friend, Anna last Thursday and had a great time! Our server was incredibly nice and made us feel so welcomed from the moment we stepped into the restaurant. We really felt as if we were treated like family when we were at Olea. To start, Anna and I shared an order of artichokes, which consisted of 4 pieces. The artichokes were delicious. They had a creamy texture and were very tender. For 2 people, this was enough since there was also the complimentary pita bread, hummus and olives for us to share. For our mains, I really wanted to try the pork chop that everyone is raving about, but ended up going with the Bucatini since I was starving and craving carbs. Anna went with the Barramundi that came with its own sides. She considered subbing out one of the sides for Couscous, which our server was happy to accommodate. In the end, Anna decided not to get the Couscous and to just stick with the dish's default sides, which sounded very appealing too. It did not take long for our food to arrive. As our server set our entrees in front of us, he brought over an extra side of Couscous for Anna on the house, which was super sweet and thoughtful of him. We both enjoyed our dishes. The food was delicious, but on a scale of 1-5, I would rate it a 4. Hospitality, on the other hand, was a 6/5. We were too full for desserts this time, but we definitely would love to come back again to Olea soon.

The best pork chop ever!

Whoa, look at me, another fancy restaurant! It's a small place and very welcoming. It gets busy at times, so you might want to make a reservation. If you want alcohol, bring your own since they don't have it here. Honestly, I prefer this rather than being limited to an overpriced alcohol selection. The pork chop was recommended to me. Who gets a pork chop at a fancy restaurant? I don't ever eat pork chops! What did I order? Yup, a $32 pork chop... Good god, this was the best pork chop I've ever had! Thick, juicy and delicious. If you don't love this pork chop, I will fly to Philly and finish it for you! Truly awesome. Everything else on the menu looks great, but damn, that pork chop! The crème brûlée pie was a nice way to end the meal, but completely overshadowed by the pork chop!

We came specifically to try the tapas and loved every dish we ordered. My husband's favorite was the Gambas al Ajillo. He loved it so much that he ordered a second plate immediately after finishing the first. I couldn't decide between the Bruselas Catalana and the Coca de Alcachofas, loved both, and would definitely order both again. The overall experience exceeded our expectations and was totally worth the visit.

The ambiance of Amada's is very "date night intimate". The lighting is fairly dim and the temperature of the restaurant is kept a bit warmer (the open marches concept probably also has something to do with that). It is tapas style so whole my boyfriend and I waited for the paella, we got a few plates to graze on. We started with a charcuterie with the jamon Serrano and manchego cheese. Im a big fan of truffle honey and you can't really go wrong with a simple charcuterie. We also got the setas and ensalada Verde. The mushrooms were well sautéed and the sauce they were served with was absolutely delicious. The ensalada verde was very much green heavy but thats exactly what we wanted. It was auite refreshing and the oil dressing wasn't overpowering the taste or making it feel greasy. The Paella we got was the squid ink rice - very flavorful. There was shrimp, clams, squid, and chucks of monk fish. It didn't feel like the seafood was skimped on. The only thing I personally felt was too much was the spicy mayo dallops. I felt like they made the dish feel heavier than necessary and overpowered the taste of the rice. The arroz con Leche was divine. Im biased because I love rice pudding but I think adding the puffed rice on touch was such a nice touch.

We could have stopped here and I would have been thrilled. For mezze we had the wagyu tartare and Haloumi, the puffed buckwheat was a cool texture and much preferred the scheese to the beef. The beef unfortunately had a spice or flavor that overpowered everything. For the entree we had the lamb shoulder, meaty, lucious and the Persian rice in the side was delicious but we were stuffed! There is one aspect I'll save for the end that is needed for management so that they can better train their Directors of First Impressions aka hostesses to be more resourceful and more befitting of the quality of the restaurant experience. Once my situation was solved... the Zahav experience that I was rather expecting took over and delivered on all cylinders as expected of such a fine quality institution. I was with a party of 8, and the host of our gathering I'm assuming aligned on a shared food experience for the full table and boy that was a strategic move. We got to sample so many fabulous dishes that we passed around the table. This was perfect considering different food experiences, diets and food considerations as we had some gluten watchers and a vegitarian at our table and in the end everyone was statisfied. Upon further research I learned tha Zahav does have a 4-course prix fix tasting menu for $90/person. Typically starts with freshly bake laffa bread, signature hummus and tehina, an assortment of seasonal vegetable salads adn spreads, followed by a mezze, a selection of charcoal-grilled skewers, adn a large-format marquee dishes like their famous slow-braised pomegranate labm shoulder and a dessert course. This sounds exactly like what we had sampled and to my NYC trained taste buds, was DELICIOUS. The preparations and plattings were works of art. To top off an excellent dining experinece, somehow we ended up being given a tour of the kitchen in action. I'm a magazine photographer that has been in many kitchens, none like Zahavs'. Quiet, immaculate, their charcoal cooking leaves a light glow and scent and is warming. Small kitchen considering the volume of dishes they turn out each night. Back to my inital introduction to the brand via the incompentence of the hostes team on Tuesday 9/15. I said I was joinging a client group dinner and they sent me to the wrong room, then I was told there was no such party. I lost 30 minutes dealing with these two incompetent individuals. I politely stepped outside to make some calls and send off text messages but unfortunately the group was busy enjoying their opening round of food and drinks while I was outside thinking I had the date or time wrong. After trying again to speak with the hostess staff I opt for one strategy before heading back to my car, to re-enter and walk the entire restaurant hoping to spot my group. Funny thing, one of the guests in my group went through a similar experience... hence it wasn't just me. Imagine had I thrown my hands up in defeat and leave. Unlike me to not have food photos to share, was just not the right setting. Take my word for it, each plate was a work of art.

Sure, there has been the occasional hiccup here and there, but that's simply the reality of the service industry. What matters is that the overall experience has been consistently excellent, and over time I've come to know and appreciate many members of your team. My most recent visit, however, reminded me exactly why I keep coming back and fully reaffirmed my ongoing state of Barcelona Bliss. I recently made reservations for myself and a friend to celebrate his birthday. Wanting to guarantee a great evening, there was really only one choice: Barcelona. As an added bonus, I had attended UNCORKED and was fortunate enough to win an extra prize along with my free tapas button: a $100 credit toward a bottle of wine. From the moment we walked through the door, the evening was off to a great start. We were greeted by Elliot, my favorite person at Barcelona. I've always found him to be welcoming, attentive, personable, and genuinely funny. In fact, he was one of the original reasons we became regulars. When he first served us, he combined exceptional service with an engaging personality that made every visit feel special. As always, he was on top of everything and even made a point of wishing my friend a happy birthday. I could spend pages describing the food, service, and atmosphere, but I'll spare you my rambling. Suffice it to say, the evening was exceptional. Every member of the team seemed committed to making sure we had a memorable experience. Whether it was the thoughtful suggestion to combine our table with another when our growing collection of tapas and wine began to outgrow the available real estate, the delightful sommelier, a funny and attentive blonde woman whose name I unfortunately can't remember, who guided us to the perfect bottle, or our server, who never missed a beat and seemed to anticipate every need before we could ask, every member of the team contributed to making the evening truly special. The 2024 Gessamí was an inspired recommendation and undoubtedly one of the highlights of the night. Fragrant and beautifully balanced, with notes of jasmine, citrus, and ripe stone fruit, it was vibrant, refreshing, and paired wonderfully with our seemingly endless parade of tapas. The entire experience was lovely, fun, memorable, and genuinely impressive. While I unfortunately can't remember the names of either the sommelier or our server, that is in no way a reflection of their service. If anything, it simply highlights the shortcomings of my memory. Their attentiveness, professionalism, warmth, and contributions to the evening certainly did not go unnoticed and are greatly appreciated. This visit reminded me exactly why Barcelona has become such a favorite destination. Time and again, you deliver the perfect combination of outstanding food, exceptional wine, genuine hospitality, and an atmosphere that somehow feels both exciting and comfortable at the same time. While Barcelona Wine Bar is certainly a great name, in my mind it will always be known as my Barcelona Bliss.

The food came and it was fine. Nothing to complain about, but nothing overly remarkable on my end. I definitely think this is an atmosphere-based place. By that I mean the food was fine but it's not something I would crave normally -- or if I did, I could go to the grocery store and make myself a little charcuterie board. But it's a really nice spot if you want to hang out with friends and enjoy some drinks and snacks while catching up. It also would be a good spot for date night.
