If I could give them a 0 I would. Both my husband and myself have been going there since we were young. At least 6 or 8 times a year. For children. Sometimes more when we had more free time. Bar staff top notch still. Kitchen has gotten worse. I do not even know how I can explain how awful our breakfast was this morning. DO NOT BOTHER. After probably 40+ years of both being brought their by our parents and then continuing with our own family till later we are done. Not even an offer to take the food off the bill. Manager is a brother, or friend of the owner that doesn't manage, only know whats been told to us and what we have observed over the years. He sits on a barstool doing nothing but checking his phone. Went in for breakfast this morning and it was underwhelming at least. Got the special which was the eggs Benedict and the kitchen serve served hard-boiled eggs on top of the deli sliced ham that belongs on sandwiches instead of Canadian bacon. Drinks always good mixed well but had to ask for them to poach the eggs again and they were brought out without any Holland sauce. One of my good friends and I don't live particularly close to another (like 18miles apart) so it's hard to get together sometimes as adults. Midway between us is roughly Arcadia/Baja Arcadia, which is how we found OBR (#FoundItOnYelp). We've already come a few times because we aren't super fancy, like dive bars and good service, and a place for us to hang with no rush. The weekend brunch is always solid - sometimes a girl wants a burger with her mimosas or beer with eggs! Super affordable too - we love a good $5 mimosa. I googled potato skins near me and this place came out. Very dark on the outside. You come in and it is a bar. There are many people sitting at the bar having a drink but not one person is sitting in here eating. It is 7 o'clock on a Tuesday night. No dark beer on the menu so I ordered a Modelo on tap Menu has a variety of starters, some wings, salad, three or four south of the border items and a handful of burgers and sandwiches. You also can choose from four seafood and four dinner entrées. It definitely is not the place if you are a vegetarian. The chairs to the tables are mostly torn with the cushions sticking out. The restaurant inside seems clean however, nobody is here. We ordered potato skins as that is what we came here for. Going to eat them before we try any other food. The potato skins are large in size. Comes with green onion, bacon, and lots of cheese. They seem to be a bit overcooked and burned on the bottom. But overall they have good flavor. This is definitely your local dive bar. All the locals are hanging out in the corner of the bar. Chose not to order any more food. Not because it was bad, but just wasn't feeling the vibe for dinner. This has been my favorite spot since I've moved into the area. I've never had a problem until the skinny white girl with black hair and piercings said I was staring at her when I absolutely was not. She has ruined the experience for me and has made it awkward for me to return due to the fact she had the audacity to tell my girlfriend I was staring at her. Me and my mom sat down at a table and a short Mexican woman who isn't our waiter told us to move for a bigger party so that our table can be used for the our people. It is not our fault that these people did not plan ahead and also all this happen on Mother's Day. This was a bit of a nostalgia pit stop for me. From the late nineties till about 2005, I used to come here regularly for the cheap and tasty breakfast deals. During a recent visit to Phoenix, we decided to grab breakfast one more time for old times sake! Memory has been kind to OBR! It's a bar that definitely has that divey vibe to it. They do serve some great greasy breakfast foods, though!....and for pretty damn cheap! The three of us each ordered a breakfast combo, each ran from $4.00 to $6.00 each! How can you beat that?! Service was a little slow but okay. The service can be spotty at times and this was going to be an easy 4 star review up until 5 minutes before we left. We asked our waitress for our bill. Now I remember if they were busy and the waitress couldn't get back to settle the tab, you could just go up to the bar and pay. It wasn't very busy at all and we waited a few minutes, but were ready to leave ...so I approached the bar. I was anxious to pay because we were all so happy to be there we had a 75% tip for her as well! I very much enjoy tipping people, especially if they give me reason to tip generously. There was a nice guy(who I think was a busser(??)with glasses) who tried to get her attention, but she pretty much ignored him. He looked back at me and said "I tried". Nice. I waved at her to try to get her attention, she looked directly at me, looked through me, and than turned her back to me and started chatting with a co-worker. That was pretty rude and annoying. So, unbeknownst to her, I put some of that tip back in my pocket! I still tipped 50%, but that left a sour taste in my mouth. So i left the cash and headed out the door, and once she saw the tip, she became pretty enthusiastic and friendly. Whatever. The food is good, cheap, and greasy. ...and I say that in a flattering light....but keep expectations for service at a lower level and you may not leave disappointed... There are some bars that serve bar food but not the OLE BRASS RAIL on Thomas & 38th street. I have never had a meal that was bad. The food comes to the table hot and the plating of the food is always on mark. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and they have biscuits and gravy to die for. The wings are very good, deep fried zucchini is excellent and I just thought I can't forget the Corn beef sandwich or the burger OMG. All I can say you must try this place. I've been in here a few times now and it's always breakfast time. I will admit on a previous visit, I was not impressed by the breakfast burrito. However, it was solely because of it's massive size and the steam from the hot plate ruined the tortilla. Due to the fact that I was aware of this, the next visit in, I did not order the same thing. Problem solved. I instead went with the Mickey Muffin. If you have seen previous reviews, I'm not a vegetarian but I do like my veggies. This particular morning I did not want any pork at all. I ordered it with just egg and cheese. I was thinking it would be comparable to the obvious place that has breakfast muffin sandwiches. This was way better! I'm not sure if they always add tomato, lettuce and onion to this sandwich or if it was simply because of the way I ordered it. If it doesn't normally come this way, you can bet if I order it again, I'll ask for it that way. It changed my whole view on the breakfast sandwich. I've had the same waitress the last 3 times I've been in and she is a very sweet girl who is good about stopping by to see if anything else is needed. I've never been in outside of breakfast and I may never venture beyond that because they do breakfast right for me. read more
