My favorite thing there--chocolate chip walnut cookie. Special of the day, the chicken pita with side of potato salad was good.
Julie E.

The short: Good food in a work-through-lunch pinch, but call your order ahead; prices standard but daily specials are a good value, especially for breakfast (all day!); clean and easy to find a seat and move tables together; I always defy my diet if there are consistently yummy chocolate chip and walnut cookies in their in-house-baked treat trays. The long: On the northeast block of 44th St. and Thomas, the second building north of the Wells Fargo on the north end, first floor of the domed office building. Standard sandwich stop downstairs, not the kind of place I'd drive to, though you can pick in the office building's few visitors parking spots or in the parking structure. There can be a wait during lunch when ordering at the counter and a longer wait while waiting for food, so I recommend calling your order in unless you just want to snag a prepared salad from their grab-n-go case. The staff is nice and as efficient as possible. The daily breakfast and lunch specials written on the whiteboard beside the door are always worth a quick glance, and I ordered the chicken pita with side special along with a giant chocolate chip and walnut cookie, all for eight bucks and change. The pita was good--chicken well cooked and seasoned, veggies fresh, pita soft, potato salad standard, cookie still a favorite. Some lunch breaks, I just order a breakfast burrito, which they toast in their panini iron--they'll toast the bread for any sandwich your order, too. Bonus for having some grab n go items like fruit, hard-boiled eggs, candy, gum, ice cream bars, coffee, and a drink case/fountain drinks. Another bonus for outdoor seating when the weather is nice--I sit on one of the building's benches and tease the giant koi fish with some crumbs. I come here at least once a month, and the food is consistently good, if no frills--good enough to convince me I don't need to walk across the street for a sandwich when this is right next door to my building. They messed an order up once and were very communicative and apologetic and made fixing it a priority--I'd feel comfortable talking to them about any issues. I'm glad to have the place here for a dependable work lunch.

Salad had at least a cup of water just sitting at the bottom of my Cobb salad

I work in a office as the same building as Redz, when they opened I had very high hopes for the cafe. Before, the cafe use to be under a different management. Now that Redz moved in, the renovations were amazing, very chic look. Very optimistic about the grand opening, my first meal I ordered was a grilled cheese. I mean nothing can go wrong with a grilled cheese. But upon receiving my order, I was very disappointed of the quantity & quality of the grilled cheese. There was burnt, black crust bits all over my sandwich, I didn't send it back simply because I had too much to do in my work load. It came with a chili soup which was very salty. I only ate about a quarter of my sandwich before throwing it away. Not only was the sandwich and soup were a disappointment, but the price of the whole meal. It wasn't worth more than $10. I thought I was done with the cafe but I have to admit I ended up going back for different treats. The prices are outrageous! I decided to try a Cobb salad one day and I fell in love with it. I ordered it about 3 different times. The fourth time they had made it fresh for me. High hopes turned right around. As I was only a quarter of the way of my salad, I noticed the bottom of my box was full of water. I once again threw the salad out. This place is a hit or miss, prices are too high. I will not be ordering a grilled cheese or salad again.

Food is decent, nice courtyard. The employees are all very friendly, except Helen, Helen is a terrible human being.

We have been to the market at Jennifer's before, and I have really enjoyed it. We keep a restaurant…read moreweek and for a weeknight it was full when we arrived around 6:30. I really love the aesthetic of this place. First of all it's tucked on the back corner of a strip mall. You wouldn't know it was care without looking, even though there is a small patio that wraps around. The dining room is kind of a great mixture that stuff it's very industrial working with lots of concrete with open duct work, but it also has a lovely tufted Bank at and crystal chandeliers. The perfect balance and I love it. You can see into the kitchen which I also like. Our server was delightful, and I loved the attentiveness, like making sure to move the curtains when the light was hitting in an odd way. I started with a delicious drink that I think was called Mezcal Orange Fizz. It was yummy! For the first course I chose the Salmon Crudo. It had a citrus dressing and crispy rice chip. It was absolutely delicious, but very tiny. I could have licked the plate because the dressing was so yummy. My friend had the gazpacho, which she said was very good With main course I chose the Garlic-Lemon Scallops and Corn. It was four delicious scallops on polenta garnished with popcorn. What a cool surprise! It was really good! My friend had the short ribs which she seemed to like as well. For dessert, we both chose the key lime tart. It was a little bit of heaven on a plate! I really enjoyed it. The portion sizes were appropriate - - what we probably should be eating rather than the huge portions we normally get. I was able to finish everything, and I left full but not stuffed. I did remove a star because I did not like that they charged a gratuity on a check for just one person. I normally tip a minimum of 25%, but they added 18%. I just left it. I understand the need to include the gratuity with a larger party (somehow the server always seems to get the short end on those larger parties). I don't know if that's a normal thing, or a restaurant week thing because, to be honest, hubby always pays the bill. I do recommend this hidden gem of a place. It has a lot going for it and I've always enjoyed my visits here.

Jewel's Bakery and Cafe

We visited Jewel's bakery and Café today for the first time and I RAN to Yelp to leave this review…read more One of our family members was recently diagnosed with celiac disease, and we are learning the ropes of a gluten-free life. Going to Jewel's cafe was the most stress-free dining experience we have had in weeks. We ordered onion rings as an appetizer because they have been dearly missed for fear of cross-contamination in other fryers. I had the March special corn, beef skillet in honor of St. Patrick's Day and my dining companion had pancakes. Just the other day they said the things that they missed the most were crispy edged pancakes like the ones from Cracker Barrel and onion rings. Problem solved and all of the food was delicious. We splurged on some bakery treats to go. The macarons are excellent and I'm told the chocolate mint cupcake is epic. The real star of the bakery case is the cinnamon roll. The flavor is outstanding, texture is very good though has some of that GF crumbliness and it is not dry, thank goodness. It's really big and definitely enough for sharing. The bad news for me is that Jewel's is far from our house so we won't be able to go all the time. The wait on a Saturday at 10:30 am was about 40 minutes and they don't have the waitlist feature. They do take reservations for parties of 6 or more. It's spendier than traditional cafes but no more expensive than other GF options and all of their inputs are more expensive than traditional spots so that makes sense to me. In other words, this spot is more than worth the trip and the wait even if both are long because you will get good, safe food at a fair price.

Food is great. I always want to pick more than one dish. If…read moreyou are pressed for time, order it as take out. Can be loud inside.
