    Pastrami sandwich
    Junior A.

Stopped in today for a pastrami sandwich, and it was just as good as their other location in Peoria. Service was great--quick and easy from start to finish. The pastrami itself was really good, but the bread was the real standout. It tied everything together and made the sandwich even better. The only downside is they don't have fountain drinks, but it's not a deal breaker. Glad to have a location on the East Side--definitely a solid spot.

We stopped for lunch before heading into downtown Phoenix for the March Madness events. We were looking for a filling meal that would keep us fueled throughout the day, and this was perfect for that. The sandwiches were so balanced from the protein to the cheese. The chicken tender portion was also great, and they provided more than enough ranch dressing. Their pre packaged potato salad and cheesecake were also amazing and tasted very fresh. Everything was authentic to the East Coast, and this was a wonderful find. We enjoyed our dine in experience though most patrons were doing take-out. The worker was also very friendly getting us anything we needed, and answered any questions we had regarding the menu. The restaurant is also a convenient location to a park and ride lot 5 minutes away for the B metro line.

So good I couldn't even put my sandwich down to take a pic! My family stopped here for a bite on the way to the airport. Four people, four different sandwiches, all delicious. Fries are very good too, crunchy and well seasoned. Will definitely go back when we visit our son.

Visited again after 7yrs. Good to see that they are still going strong cooking up good food & providing great service. Got the Empire Steak & the Chopped Chesses. Prepared quickly and the bread was amazing. Definitely recommend and would come back if in the area again.

    Empire Steak Sandwich

This is one of our go-to sandwich spots in AZ. You get a huge sandwich for the price. I don't know what makes it so good, the bread, the flavor combinations, or maybe it's nostalgia of how sandwiches tasted growing up on the east coast. Though it's hiding in plain sight in a strip of stores, you can tell the people who come in are in on this delicious secret. They have seating inside, and it seems to be a popular take out spot.

Greeted with a smile and friendly service. Recommendation of the first three items are best sellers Long Island, Empire Steak, and Chopped Cheese. We ordered 3 Empire steaks and 1 Chopped. 1 order of fries and 1 order of the 50/50 of fries and onion rings. I ordered also a New York Cheese Cake. Well let me say that all prices have gone up about 50-60 cents so the menus and needs to be updated. I don't mind the change of an increase but I like when my menu has the price upfront to be correct. The place is small and can accommodate small groups but no more than 14-16 people total in establishment as they have 7 two table seats but you can add a chair or two. Most people I saw were taking their food to go. Food made to order. Meat was flavorful and delicious. The onion rings were alright but what made it a hit was the season on top of it. The fries were good and seasoned as well. The family was happy so I guess it was a win win. The sandwiches were 13.59. The cheese cake was smooth and creamy and definitely a must get. I got the plain but they have strawberry cheesecake, chocolate Oreo cheesecake, chocolate cake, and carrot cake for 4.99 a slice. Im sure they were all winners but I was feeling the plain cheesecake and it didn't disappoint. I definitely would recommend this place if ever in the Arizona.

    Chopped Cheese Sandwich, $14

I visited on a Wednesday afternoon around 1PM. It's not located in the best neighborhood, between the bus stop across the parking lot and the liquor store next door. There was plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. Although smaller in size, the restaurant was clean. There was only one other couple dining in, but there was a flow of a few customers picking up their orders. I couldn't decide between the chopped cheese and Empire Steak Sandwich (their version of a Philly) so I asked the owner. He said they were both good choices, but he preferred the chopped cheese so I ordered that for $14. The sandwich came out within a few minutes, nice and hot. It was a good sized portion, enough for lunch. I enjoyed the bread; it tasted freshly baked (not sure if they bake them in store). It was a good sandwich, but I think I would have preferred the Empire Steak Sandwich for the sliced beef vs. the chopped/diced beef.

This place is just amazing! The empire good, but not something that I would brag about. But the Baja fries on the other hand, those I would brag about! They are a meal by themselves honestly. The chicken and mushrooms with the Baja sauce and peppers just brings the fries all together in a unique way. Plus my order came out in probably 10 minutes or less, and was steaming hot. The place itself isn't big, there's only room for a few people to dine inside.

    Fish and chips

Amazing cheesesteak! Everyone there was so grateful and nice! It's not in an area of town I normally go to and only found it because of Yelp! The inside is super clean. I got the empire steak and it was great! My husband ordered a little of everything to try: fish and chips, breaded mushrooms and wings. He loved the fish and wings!

    Pastrami Fries
    Jennifer H.

Excellent fried fish sandwich and pastrami fries, although the pastrami was a little tough. The chipotle aioli on the fish was spicy and delish. Hubby had the corned beef which was tender and salty. Very nice people but it was very hot in there. Temps in Phx today were 105° and we were sweating. Plus it smelled like cigarette smoke. It's a very old building. Good food though and we will go again and try more sandwiches.

Overall, there were definitely more hits than misses. The deli offers an impressive variety of hot foods. The sandwiches coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic, and there are plenty of pasta dishes and traditional Italian entrées available as well. We didn't order a hot meal on this visit, but we'll definitely be back to try one. The market section is also worth browsing. They carry a wide selection of pastas, sauces, olive oils, canned tomatoes, and other Italian staples. My only suggestion would be to expand the specialty pasta selection with options like squid ink, spinach, or roasted red pepper varieties. Of course, we couldn't leave without visiting the bakery case. We brought home an assortment of Italian cookies, a black and white cookie, a Napoleon, chocolate cannolis, and a brownie. The brownie was the one item that didn't impress us, but everything else was delicious and tasted fresh. One thing to be aware of is parking. The lot is quite small, and both we and several other customers ended up parking across the street. It's not necessarily something the business can control, but it's worth mentioning if you're visiting during a busy time. The fact that this shop has been around for decades says a lot about the quality and loyal customer base they've built over the years. Overall, we had a very good experience and are looking forward to returning to explore more of the deli offerings.

New Yorker- This sandwich had corned beef and pastrami, cole slaw, Swiss, and Russian dressing on some rye bread. Pretty big sandwich. Pastrami and corned beef were tasty, albeit a tad fattier then I prefer. The cole slaw was pretty mayo heavy and goopy, I honestly scraped most of it off. Rye bread was soft, but nothing "great". I'm spoiled by Langer's and I need to tell myself that I will never find anything as good as that sandwich. Oh well......I tried. Sandwich was a 7/10 IMO. The sandwich came with some cottage fries which were ok, a side of pickles that weren't really pickled (tasted like a straight up cucumber) and some cole slaw which I did not try. Service was very friendly, the cashier was Scott himself, I think. The guy who brought out my food was friendly as can be, too. Would I come back? Yes. The Sicilian Butcher is firmly in the second category for me, and this visit was yet another reminder of why I keep coming back. The marinara on the side was rich, bright, and made every bite even better. Next came the Heirloom Tomato & Burrata, and wow... this dish was as beautiful as it was delicious. The sweet, juicy heirloom tomatoes paired with the incredibly creamy burrata created such a fresh, elegant starter that tasted like summer on a plate. Simple ingredients done exceptionally well. For my entrée, I ordered the Lasagna al Forno, and it completely stole the show. Layer after layer of tender pasta, rich meat sauce, creamy cheese, and perfectly baked goodness made this the ultimate comfort dish.
